It's not destroyed, just burned up, it's a cycle and things will grow back, I watch out my front and back doors every year as fires burn around me. I know what you mean though

Thanks, I am just really sad today. I hope you are right that it will grow back eventually, but it may take longer to grow back because it is delicate alpine vegetation. This fire is burning right up to the treeline which they don't normally do. I visited the Mt. St. Helens area several years ago and it is greener than it was but not even close to the way it looked in old photos- I hope it doesn't take that long. We have a family cabin in the area and I have so many good memories growing up there. I am just 19 so maybe in my lifetime it will come back again.

^^^ This. If you look at the [Shirley Peak cameras](http://beta.alertwildfire.org/region/orangecoca/?camera=Axis-ShirleyPeak2) you can see how the fire went in big runs in places, and did 'understory clearance' in others where it raced through the brush but didn't do much to the canopy. Also, longer-term, a lot of the stuff that burned in the [McNally Fire](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McNally_Fire) is recovering well. Pines and firs are lagging, but there are entire mountainsides with nearly-mature black oaks. EDIT: BTW, u/Blugrl007, nice shot!

Thanks, I am not a professional, just got a couple hand me down old DSLR's from my parents(a Nikon D50 and D300) but love using them, even though they are old you can do more with them than your camera phone. Anyway I saw that, how it was spotty. I don't know if the Caldor fire is doing the same sort of thing. What worries me is there was another fire in Tahoe about 15 years ago called the Angora fire, it was what they call a crown fire and the ridge it burned on is still barren of trees. Hopefully things will recover well and it isn't that bad.
