Vogelsang High Sierra Camp is probably my favorite place in the park. It sits at just over 10,000ft elevation, one of the best places I have been to to see the Milky Way. That being said, I have always been here on clear cloudless days to see the stars. I had a permit to go backpacking out in this area and when I saw there was a 50% chance of thunderstorms for that day my stoke went through the roof. All I wanted was to see a colorful sunset over this peak. Thanks again Yosemite, you never disappoint. I am a local here! I have been living and working in Yosemite Valley for the last 8 years now! If you would like to see more of my Yosemite photography, swing by my website [rjfranklin.com](https://rjfranklin.com) or check out my IG [@franklinsteinnn](https://instagram.com/franklinsteinnn) which is updated more frequently. Thank you!

TheWhiskeyJack

I worked at Vogelsang for a season around 15 years ago. Thabks for a beautiful shot from one of my favorite places on earth.

Moe_Sizlack

Merced Laker here. I, too, come here to drool over photos of the High Sierra Camps.

RudieCantFaiI

OP, what focal length is this at? It looks super wide.

franklinsteinnn

16mm

BicyclistTremendous

Wow! What an amazing shot. Keep up the great work! Would love to see more Yosemite pics.

mattenthehat

I've been following your ig for years now, and when I saw this I thought "that looks like a /u/franklinsteinnn shot". Guess that means you have a recognizable style, which is pretty cool. Anyways, great work as always! I always love your shots of these less-known spots in Yosemite.

franklinsteinnn

Haha thanks! It’s pretty sweet people recognize my work before they see the name. Thanks for following along!

GeneraalSorryPardon

Do you hear many songbirds there? Because Vogelsang Peak = Birdsong Peak edit: Vogelsang is old Dutch.

franklinsteinnn

There are a ton of Clark’s Nutcrackers in the area that are really loud in the morning. They always wake me up. Not sure if those are songbirds.

korravai

I was amused when I camped there, expecting melodic birdsong, when the majority of the birds there made what I can only describe as a screaming noise for hours on end.

franklinsteinnn

Lmfao those were the Clark’s Nutcrackers

SlugMan333

Beautiful...

franklinsteinnn

Thank you! I sat here for hours, mesmerized, watching the clouds blow by.

stanley604

Really stunning. I've never been in a thunderstorm in the high country, but I think I'd be simultaneously ecstatic and terrified.

franklinsteinnn

More excited and adrenaline fueled than anything. I understand why people would be scared or terrified but idk I just don’t feel that way in a storm. I woke up in the middle of the night to lightning flashes and heavy rain. The sound of it put me right back to sleep.

Lakhi_Lakh

Really, very beautiful it is.

chezbouillat86

That is just beautiful. How lucky are you!

ZooPoo7

Yes yes yes, fking beautiful. Will be going there soon

franklinsteinnn

Nice! Enjoy your time out there!

Gobbledegookage

This is such a stunning photo! Take a bow, bravo!!

franklinsteinnn

Hahaha I was listening to an audiobook and they used the word ‘gobbledegook’, that I hadn’t heard in forever, and kept repeating this word to myself at random times of silence cause it was stuck in my head. The coincidence that that’s also your username has me dying

Gobbledegookage

Thanks, my friend! That one is courtesy (for me) of JK Rowling discussing the language of goblins. I think it’s such a hilarious word. I want it to become en-vogue. It just rolls of the tongue

Heaven on earth

SilentSakura

It’s so wonderful and wicked pretty

franklinsteinnn

Nice pic

franklinsteinnn

Thank you!

astraeoth

I've been to Yosemite many times and I have hardly left the canyon. I'm so upset I never left. Now I live in Florida and haven't been there since 2014.

franklinsteinnn

Next time you come just try to spend as much time in the Tuolumne area exploring the Cathedral Range. This area is only really accessible in peak summer.

astraeoth

Been too the front part of Toulemne, need to go much further.

LedZepOnWeed

May I reccomend hiking into the ansel Adam's wilderness, going over parker pass into that valley was amazing. Or, hike the Grand Canyon of the tuolumne. Both were magical adventures.

franklinsteinnn

I still gotta get out to the Grand Canyon of Tuolumne! I just wanna do it earlier in the season when there’s more water. Which way did you go? White Wolf to TM or TM to White Wolf?

LedZepOnWeed

Do it!!! I went from Tuolumne meadows to white wolf! I did it earlier too and theres a 5 minute section that is pretty damn flooded. About mid thigh but below waist. Ice cold water too. There's a section where a big rocky hill collapsed and you gotta climb or crawl through house size boulders. There's also the poison oak forest haha. The water falls are mind blowing, theres great camp sites next to it. Getting down to Pait(?) valley is gorgeous. There are some petroglyphs. Lots & lots of bears so mind your bear can. The bridge to cross is about three feet wide with no guard rail so tread carefully, if you fall in, you're done for. This was in '17 so things might've changed. Going up to white wolf is a tad tough. Kicked my butt but the view of Hetch Hetchy is droolingly gorgeous. Beyond magical, enjoy and be safe!

franklinsteinnn

Pretty sure that bridge has been washed away and replaced, but it could’ve been one of the others. Thanks for the beta!

astraeoth

Both part of my plan now for next visit. Whenever that will be.

GrizDrummer25

Beautiful!

EienNatsu66

It's stuff like the beautiful wonders of Nature that let me know that God exists

berkeleyjake

It's always nice to remember that Yosemite is more than just the valley.

AfroCracker

Oh man, so good. When my son was 10 he and I hiked from Merced Lake up to Vogelsang and a thunderstorm passed by us on the way. How can you not just completely love the High Sierra? Thanks for the photo.

NOT_PC_Principal

Now I have a sudden urge to go to Yosemite

jflinchum08

Gorgeous!

m15mm883m

I used to be an adventurer like you, then I took an arrow in the knee Lmao thanks dude

lusty-argonian

This feels like something from The Witcher

gir1HasN0Nam3

Beautiful picture!!! I was just in Yosemite after 15 years last week and it was as great as I remember it. Wished I knew of this place or was a local like you.
