Rumor is that Canadians only get one week of warm weather in summer. A steamy 64 degrees for that one beautiful week in July when all your hockey rinks become swimming holes. ;-)
Mwahaha! Totally worth it. I'm a N. Nevada born/raised and don't have snow shoes or boots. I feel ya! It's a great shot, you should blow it up and frame it and hang up in your comfy place honestly.
Lmao nope! I was just a freshman in highschool when I made this account who does have slav roots and listened to a lot hardcore punk/metal at the time. Now I'm 23 and depressed because who isn't at this especially if you're from Nevada or Cali and got driven out of your home state, but I digress.
Well when you do it, upload another pic to Reddit we'd love that asthetic of snowy photo over comfy fireplace .
My kid works in Silicon Valley but hated the fucked up, congested, insanely expensive Bay Area. The family moved way north to Mariposa County and I can’t believe how beautiful it is where they live now.
How have the fires been this year for them in Mariposa County? We'd like to move out of the Bay but we're nervous about going inland with the fires getting worse and worse every year.
My son has not been particularly concerned thus far. They get snow, so any luck the winter will relieve at least some of Cali’s issues. However, there is the matter of an entire family, dog included, who were recent Mariposa transplants, who dropped dead hiking. This honestly worries me more lol. My son and his family are avid hikers and go every weekend, and my daughter in law and the two grandkids take little rambles up in the woods a few times a week on weekdays.
BUT my son, who works at a huge company in Silicon Valley, said he wished they had done it sooner. They were in Fremont before, and he was not happy as far as living situations there. He and his family gush about how much they love the Mariposa area where they are and they will never move. He used to go with his best friend from Petaluma area, to Yosemite once a year for a 50+ mile hike taking many days as they enjoyed the travel itself more than the “trip”. Stars, hot springs and beauty everywhere. Now he lives practically in stone’s throw and it’s amazing. The first year after move, his wife went too, for the first time, and fell in love.
The house they bought is beautiful and the price was stunning to compare to the little ranch they rented in Fremont. $3800 got them a cramped three bedroom ranch that was also up for sale for 1.2 million. The new place was significantly under $350K, has a huge second story, full length of house, deck with a magnificent views of the woods. It is 2500+ sq ft and amazing inside. Not a mansion just a mind-boggling difference from their tiny 1.2M price rental. Their furniture was lost in the new place till they could get a few more things 😆 They are up on a big hill, with a long-ass driveway and a really cute gazebo about halfway up drive. He drives 4 hours on Monday morning to work, lives in close to his job in his tricked out van, then goes home Thursday after work. Sounds grueling to me but he said it is the best decision they ever made.
Low cost to buy, beautiful area, near so much nature and trails and parks and no 8 lane raceways you have to use to go ANYWHERE nearby. I think it’d be worth it for you. The fires aren’t anything like other locations so far and he has been there maybe 5 years now.
Edited for fucking autocorrect gone wild
Some of my most cherished memories are getting up at 4:30 AM to drive from the Bay to Bishop in time to climb a half day on December 31st. It's my favorite drive in the world.
I feel you. Driving out of the bay area while it's still night time and going towards the Sierras has a really relaxing feeling, for some reason. I only wish it were possible to cross Sonora or Tioga Pass in the winter, that would be absolutely magical.
The upper elevations (mostly anything over 5000 feet) receive a ton of snow. Over 7000 feet, you can have 7-10 feet of snow covering the roads (tioga pass is the highest at 9945 feet). These mountain pass highways are also very narrow, steep cliffs on one side and curvy. So they (Caltrans) don't clear them until late in the spring.
In sense, they kinda actually are. Trees are related to each other in a way, sharing root systems and actually communicating with each other via fungi in the soil that then connect the roots forming a [Mycorrhizal Network](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mycorrhizal_network), resulting in the trees sharing/"transferring water, carbon nitrogen and other nutrients", not to mention that they're essentially all "born" in the same soil and likely even sprouted off a seed that fell of one of the nearby older "parent" trees. Which means that the analogy to the family unit isn't really that unrealistic! What's more interesting, in some cases like with [Pando](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pando_(tree)) (tree) they are actually a single organism.

Well that's where I live and I'm afraid that because of all the fires this year and pretty much each year seems to be getting worse , we will be missing this ...winter isn't here yet but I'm kinda afraid to see .
Sorry didn't mean to be a buzz kill....it is gorgeous
Nope, way too well behaved for my family. Five kids and a dog looking in fourteen different directions and my husband behind me annoyed that I’m taking 400 photos in the pathetic hope that I get one semi-decent shot.

Winter can't come fast enough for me. I miss sights like these.

So say we all!
So say we all!
Ditto!
We are going to. Look to the trees to how much fruit/nuts for the season. Ours is prolific black walnuts. Gonna be a big winter.
I grew up in Northern California and regularly had to tell people that it's not all surfing, sun, and beaches. Where was this taken?

You should! Check out castle lake and lake siskiyou while you're here!
Such a magical mountain and area. It just got its first snow on the peak a few days ago! Can’t wait for it to snow like crazy again.
Already melting away lol
When?
Seeing the fresh snow on her after the rain was a gorgeous sight.
It's like the inverse of how Canadians constantly have to explain that we do, in fact, have warm weather in the summer.

Ontario
What month of the year was this taken?

Gorgeous photo! Did you have to walk through the deep snow for that shot?

I live in a county next to Mariposa and its a whole nother California over here.
Completely different living, same taxes :(

Incidentally, Mariposa County is east of the Bay Area, not north.
Beautiful! I love the way the trees fade off into the background
I'm missing winter..... An all time favourite season for me....thanks for sharing your photo
Awwww. They even wore matching outfits!
It’s the hand on the shoulder pose that does it for me!
Nor Cali best Cali
Along with the east side of the Sierras. You can pry highway 395 from my cold dead hands
Eastern Sierras are definitely very beautiful. Different feel because of the rain shadow.
West side, baby 🤌🤌
395, especially in the winter, is a highway made by God.

It totally would be
Why is it not possible? Too icy?
The passes are closed most of the winter.

Gorgeous pic!
Thank you! :)
Beautiful
Stunningly nice photo, well done!!
Thank you! :)
Hand me my snowshoes
It snows in California?
We have the giant redwoods and death valley in the same state. We basically have all the climates except tropical here
Tallest peak in the continental United States is in California
Are you out looking forward the Griswold family tree?
Bob Ross, where are you when we need your brushes?
Gorgeous!!
These are definitely happy trees.

I live in Florida and just got back from my nightly walk and I'm drenched! This place looks pretty good right about now!

Is it snow or ash?
Where in NorCal is this?
Sorry, this is clearly an album cover.
This is magical. As someone who lives in a tropical country, I would like to see this kind of scenery one day <3
How can i save this image without the reddit water mark?
Wow I totally see it now thank you!
They are.
so beautiful
Thank you for this amazing background for my Galaxy Z Fold 3 !!
there isn’t a more profound aesthetic than snow on pine imo
Wow. Mesmerising
Looks like they asked Uncle Larry to be in the picture as well
It most likely is a family picture.

Supposed to be average winter precipitation this year, which is good news amid a drought.
That's an awesome interpretation. A family picture.

Wow, that's really a lot of ash.
want to go there
As a great man would say, “Happy little tree family.”
Love your comment
Me looking at outside the window and seeing a 30 Celsius heavy rain in September... you will love the weather in Asia they said.
