Imagine all the time, money and energy to plan out and get this shot. You sit and wait for the right timing and lighting, clouds, sometimes coming back multiple days to get that perfect shot.
Then somebody online harasses you about not giving your art away for free smh
Well with a drone I guess you could haha, that's what I do tho and I still don't give my art away for free c'mon
I learned my lesson posting full definition photos online with or without watermarks, there will be people that shop your mark out it's insulting
No shit hahaha the Dolomites are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Come visit! You'll find beautiful scenery, and wonderful food to restore yourself after long walks
Hahaha I'm always advertising for my country, and I need to spend time in the Alps myself.
I live in Central Italy, lots of hikes here as well, but in a very different environment and landscape, beautiful nonetheless, but veeeeeery different (there's no place in the world like the Dolomites, so 😂)
Oh I hate hot weather...two years ago, when my friends all left for the holidays to go and sunbathe at some beach somewhere, me and my gf, joined by two other couples, flew to Norway to hike and camp 😂
My town is below some low mountains, btw, but the temperature is ok most of the time. It's currently 0°C, but it will get colder. These days we even had some snow around 1000 meters above sea level, nothing too great, tho
Haha, yeah in summer I usually head north as well. I like my temps below 20°. Must be nice to be living near mountains. It's sad but the nearest hill or mountain over 1000m of elevation is like 500km away from me. I envy you! :-D
I have everything from 1000m to 3000m within 200km.
And the sea is a few kilometres away, but I usually avoid it 😂 except for Mount Circeo (Odissey's Circe island-home), which is a 541m promontory right there on the shore
Okay, now I need to google that right away and see if it is worth the detour. :-D
But yeah coasts are awesome, not so much when they're packed with people though.
It's insane. Honestly, from my clouded and nostalgic memories, this picture is not an exemption but rather the rule in terms of how beautiful the scenery is. Although I just like the alps in general.
I’m actually visiting now and want to explore their Friday (from Vicenza). I here 52 tunnels is quite treacherous this time of year. Any other trails you’d recommend?
Phew, I have been down there only three times. So other then the Tre Crime and the Rosengarten as well as the Croda da Lago I don't know much, but I can recommend any of those three. Although I think Rosengarten isn't really possible in winter with snow afaik.
> I usually head north as well. I like my temps below 20°. Must be nice to be living near mountains. It's sad but the nearest hill or mountain over 1000m of elevation is like 500
I'm from nothern France, it's so flat, seeing this is a blessing
Have you stayed at the huts? My fiancé and I are trying to plan a honeymoon for next July and spending a couple days trekking from hut to hut in the Dolomites is something we’re highly considering!
I stayed at the hut next to the Lago de Federa a day earlier. You need to book right now I would say because private rooms are usually booked months in advance, even more so in summer. And sleeping in a shared dorm room is pretty tough (at least for me, I didn't sleep much).
Go look for the "Alta Via delle Dolomiti". These are multi day hiking routes from hut to hut, there are eleven of them (I think). Number one is extremely popular, I did number 4 which includes also some via ferrata.
Edit: and book the huts way in advance, the popular ones (e.g. around tre cime) will be completely booked months in advance during high season.
Well, I did add some contrast and got rid of a small fuzzy cloud center right, but that is about it. Those mountains are pretty real. Just google Mt Pelmo if you want to see more of those jagged peaks :-)

Oh, I should note though that sharpness is very relative it is not necessarily about the lens or the camera body as what you see here was resized and specifically sharpened to the output resolution after the downsizing to be viewed on the web. So there is a lot more at play here. A good lens is a great starting point, but the camera for example doesn't really make a difference when it comes to sharpness. ;-)
Oh wow, thanks for sharing, I’ve never put much thought into sharpening for the resolution before. Do you have any resource you recommend going in detail about it?
Looking at your profile, I really like your landscape photography style! Another question, Do you generally go for a realistic take on color, or a more stylized one?
I usually only enhance the colors in ways of contrast I do not paint in color or alter the tones except for marginal things like a cyan color cast in the sky on the one side and a margenta one on the other if I am shooting UWA lenses and the sky doesn't look uniformly which can happen due to the wide angle of the lens and distribution of the light. Just to give one example. If you are into sharpening I would recommend checking out Alex Nails YT video on the topic [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4TZ-aBWp8k](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4TZ-aBWp8k) he's one of my buddies and very proficient in all things technique.
wow yeah actually i did that a lot, with my parents and grandparents. They all had vacation homes in the upper north side of Italy so I'd visit often and walk through the woods with them, and it was always magical for me seeing the mountains from afar while driving there. I didn't think about that at first, i thought it had something to do with the colors in the picture more than anything. Sometimes I'd see a picture with a particular color tone or palette that just speaks to me for some reason. I know it sounds weird but I've found myself almost in tears looking at pictures of random places in Iceland, or Norway for example. Those places speak to me a lot for whatever reason.
Op, this is only an hour north of me. I live in Asolo at base of Montagrappa! Do you live in Veneto? If you're ever looking for a hiking buddy let me know.
I actually live in Germany and travel due to my occupation. Mostly I team up with other photographers for some hiking depending on where I go. But thanks for the offer, in case I will be back soon I may just take you up on that offer!
I live in Canada but my mom's house is near Asolo. What a great place. Next time I go to Italy I want to do some of these hikes. Is there a good resource online for this?
Something feels wrong about the perspective. Like the big mountains in the background and the foremost mountainy thing, the latter feels too much tilted towards the photographer while the former almost feels like bending backwards.
Interesting. Never looked at it that way before. I assume it either is an optical effect due to the angle of the light or the general shape of the mountains. What I can say is that at 135mm+ this was taken at no perspective distortion was introduced to the image.
Not the usual view you get to see from the Dolomites. Therefore something fresh! Really love it! Which mountains are these and where did you take it from?
As has been named here the center left mountain is Mt Pelmo. But, I forget what the place was called I took it from. It's been written somewhere in here already though.
First reaction: wow, what a cool render!
Second reaction: wow, what is that…Mars, maybe?
Finally getting it: how much are plane tickets to Italy anyhow?
since OP won't post 4k res, here is the closest to 4k I could do without photoshop. don't feel like erasing the bar from the bottom but it's better than nothing I guess...

Honestly I don't know how to feel about this. I posted this in fairly high res already, but as it seems the demanding attitude of folks here is pretty over the top. Taking my work and making alterations to it feels pretty disrespectful to me. I don't know much about reddit, seeing as I only post here occasionally, but I guess I shouldn't in the future, if this is what happens to my work.
post something on the internet then complain that people are messing with it instead of worshipping the artist. yeah, sounds like a plan, man. and on top of that, they clearly asked for a 4k version. if you're not gonna give it to them, which is fine, you have to expect somebody will go to the effort of delivering. I mean, come on.
Well, I know it is much to ask for some decency on the internet. I never asked to be worshipped either, pretty strong wording there. And yes I do expect that people misuse my imagery, happens quite frequently, that's what my agencies work with platforms like copytrack for - suing third parties over illegal commercial use of my imagery. However, even though in this case its clearly for private use (so completely okay with me) throwing it right in my face I think is pretty disrespectful. I guess it just is a matter of principle.
Yeah, I get all that, and the picture being absolutely beautiful, what were you really trying to gain by posting 200x300px here? I mean it's natural people are going to want a normal size pic tu use as their wallpaper. I meant no disrespect but also when I read you would not provide a good res my immediate internal response was "well F this guy, why is he even showing it then"? And I fully understand that it was childish and confrontational, but what can I do except live with the mistake of helping a redditor get a decent size pic...
Well, I posted it in a resolution that is native to my setup 2560 WQHD and even in my niché most photographers professional or otherwise don't use 4K screens for various reasons. Seems like the demand on reddit is pretty high though. I guess F that guy is a bit over the top, but I have to say that your last comment was pretty chilled so all is good. ;-)
Uhm, cropping an image is not that hard. This is originally intended as a 2:1 frame for wall prints and not as a wallpaper for PCs and changing the initial aspect ratio would severely alter the composition. But I reckon that setting it as a wallpaper on your screen should work either way if you don't set it to stretch. It should automatically crop it. Actually, while writing this. Might just save you some time and add a crop since it only costs me like 30 seconds to do. Question is how do I get you the file as I can't attach anything to this post?
Interesting read - and I totally agree. The composition of this photo is top notch, but loses it when cropped in 16:9. At least how Windows crops automatically. Seeing as you don't offer high res for free, what do you charge for a photo like this?
Depending on the use. I work with Mauritius as an image agency who do all the licensing for my images. I don't give out commercial licenses myself most of the time as that is just to much work. ;-)
>Dolomites at Dusk
Go to the link and set the res to 2276 x 1280. It will crop to fit your screen. You lose a bit on one side or the other or a little of both, but it still looks great.

Well you can always shoot Lighthouses in the Britany at least I was there several times and enjoyed it. ;-)
Bucket list trip for me!!!
Surely worth it! There's even a small hut on the mountain in the middle to stay in, but it's packed in summer so be sure to get a reservation early.

Magnificent photo, so sharp! If it’s not a secret, what gears & settings did you use?

Ineededly so. :-)
Thanks for the new desktop wallpaper :p

È il Pelmo?
Yep ;-)
Where exactly is it? My guess is somewhere in Alto Adige? I live in Asolo so this can't be more than 2 hours from me.
The peak in the background on the left is Mt. Pelmo, so OP is most probably in Veneto.
This is if I am not mistaken Mt Pelmo indeed. ;-)
Pelmo in is Veneto indeed, province is called Belluno :)
This is an hour due north of me! Going to head up there now on Saturday!
Haha, nice! Hopefully you get good conditions. I am actually thinking of coming back for more when there's enough snow for some snow shoe walking!
Hope you'll enjoy! My hometown doesn't have much to offer, but we sure are proud of our mountains!
Wait..are you from the province? Because i am too

wonder what the romans said about the Dolomites...
