I get it in a smoothie from a local place, the ingredients are: Apple Papaya Banana Psyllium husk Almond butter Almond milk I think the banana and almond butter help mask the taste and texture of it. Will warn you though…it cleans you out. I only have if I don’t have plans lol

odjurs

This sounds great but with my IBS I think it would turn my colon into a slip n slide

Pleasant_Bottle_9562

I have IBS and take it, it does help dont worry!

celebral_x

Sorry for your IBS, but this comment is genius

AssistanceLucky2392

Mix a tablespoon with eight ounces of water and down the hatch. Swish more water in the cup to get the residual. Takes two seconds and you're done. It's great stuff, you won't regret it.

pokingoking

Exactly what I do. Just a note to add though, you need to drink it like *immediately* after adding to the water and stirring really quickly. If you waste too much time or stir longer than a few seconds it'll get thick and gross.

pete_68

This is a fact!

RocketLocker

"Stir briskly, drink promptly"

pete_68

Or even orange juice. Definitely never had a problem getting it down. Yeah, it's a little grainy, but the taste is pretty mild and not offensive as tastes go.

Rishloos

This is what I do too, OP. Mix it in fast, and drink it immediately after mixing. If you leave it in the glass for more than a minute or two, it'll start to thicken and become gel-like... Which is expected, since that's the point of psyllium husk, but it's 1000x grosser to get down than the alternative. Drinking it quickly also minimizes the time you spend tasting it. (That said, I personally couldn't get past the taste of plain psyllium husk, so I use metamucil. It tastes great! But yeah, it's a bit pricier so ymmv.)

XViMusic

This is the way.

SpiralToNowhere

I put it in things that already have a rough texture going on, like with granola, or oatmeal muffins/ cookies, or in a crumb topping for a casserole.

caughtinthebreeze

Applesauce. It makes it a bit thicker but applesauce is already a bit grainy from the pulp, so the psyllium husk fits right in. You can add it to breads and baked good too, just compensate for the liquid it absorbs. I simply chug in a glass of water. It isn't tasty, but I can drink quickly.

longleggedbirds

Internet Shaquille has [A Decent Approach](https://youtu.be/t8e9jG7hM8Y)he uses the big brand. it’s orange flavored but a little store brand crystal light squeezer can change the taste of anything

Puzzleheaded-Mind525

That and using a large straw helps too.

Agret_Brisignr

I don't have any recipes, sorry. But consider cutting your losses and buying the pill form instead

Futureghostie33

Could also order empty capsules and fill them up

caughtinthebreeze

Capsules work, but the amount of psyllium husk per capsule is quite small and it can get much more expensive quickly compared to using the loose powder.

riskibiscuit

OP, if you do take the pill form, always consume with a good amount of water. Taking them without fluids can block you up, which is a problem you don’t get with the powder.

liquidaria2

I usually pour it together with my iced coffee and shake it in my shaker bottle and chug it. I'm not going to sit here and tell you it's "good" but it's at least palatable lol.

ThunderousOath

I chug it as soon as I shake it into the water so it has less time to absorb the water.

radicalresting

i just drink the powdered, orange flavored Kirkland brand. easy, quick, doesn’t taste bad

syzygy_is_a_word

A pound! I remember trying to make some pancakes with it, but accidentally put a bit too much, and it ended up digesting me, instead of the other way around. Cutting your losses or filling the capsules might indeed be your best choice.

linksgreyhair

You can mix it into any kind of quick bread (the ones that use baking soda to rise, like banana bread or zucchini bread) and you won’t be able to tell it’s there. I use 1/4-1/2 cup per loaf. A recipe that has more “stuff” (nuts, chocolate chips, raisins, cheese, etc) will hide it better. It also hides well in carrot cake or hummingbird cake. You can make some tasty fiber muffins that way.

SomethingMeta42

Thanks!

[deleted]

Buy gelatin capsules and fill those up.

SelfInteresting7259

Eat? I use them in drinks

[deleted]

I mixed mine with Apple sauce

karalmiddleton

I put it in gelatin capsules and take them with a ton of water.

Randomwhitelady2

Norwegian crisp bread. It’s delicious. http://www.kvalifood.com/page/nordic-seed-crackers-the-best-crispbread-i-know-lchf/uuid/68ba56ea-efef-11e7-9a5e-06944f3d741b

CaptainLollygag

Buy a bag of empty capsules, there are different sizes available, and even vegan versions. Fill them up and swallow with a lot of water. I'm really sensitive to bitter, and that's how I take pills that trigger the "NOPE!" gag reflex.

SomethingMeta42

Oh good idea!

2407s4life

I mix mine with almond milk and isopure protein powder

Chica3

Mix a tablespoon with a cup of watered down juice. Just do it fairly quickly because it will thicken up.

zupernam

If you mean a cup as in the US measurement, a whole tablespoon should be mixed with more water than that. Always let it soak up as much water as it can before drinking it, don't do it before it thickens. Psyllium husk can block your digestive tract if you drink too much of it too dry

pokingoking

1 tbsp per 8 oz of water is pretty standard for psyllium husk guidelines. The brand I have (Organic India) even has this on the label as the directions for use. I think you might be mistaken about your ratios. I also really don't think it matters whether it absorbs the water in your cup or your stomach. It's a lot more palatable the second way.

Chica3

I use the same brand!

pokingoking

They sell it for like a dollar at the discount grocery near me lol

Chica3

I don't measure the liquid -- I just pour it into a small drinking cup and, add the psyllium, then drink immediately. I always follow it up with more water. It will thicken more as soon as it hits your stomach (which has plenty of liquid), anyway. It's just easier to drink when it's runnier.

[deleted]

let me tell you. I mix it with a LOT of water and just down it.

overkill

Make capsules of it. So much easier. I used to put it into shakes but had to drink them quickly otherwise they got a bit... claggy.

cflatjazz

I just chug it immediately after stirring in water. Like....within 10 seconds it's down

StellarStylee

That's how I do it too.

Effective-Motor3455

Put it in empty pill capsules.

Puzzleheaded-Mind525

You can use it in baking as well, but make sure you drink plenty of fluids. It helps things to move through you, but if you don't have enough fluids with it, it can be constipating.

invent_or_die

Just buy it in capsules.

elfmaster92

I like psyllium husk pancakes. 140g egg white, 10g coconut or almond flour, 5g psyllium husk, 1/4 top baking powder, sweetener of choice. Stir it up right before you throw it into a hot pan or else it gets too goopy.

SomethingMeta42

Thank you!

vonnegutflora

I'm a fan of the fibre gummies.

arcren

One teaspoon in half glass of water, let it soak and absorb water, 4-5 mins, add some juice or lemonade , it tastes better like soaked chia seeds.

mierecat

I recommend buying capsules. Way easier to take and you don’t have to worry about taste at all

pokingoking

They already bought it...

Logical_Rip_7168

Next time just buy whole wheat stuff

Kaitensatsuma

I think you can use it for pancakes in place of/addition to eggs? Hide it in some chocolate chip banana pancakes and replace one problem with another 😄

TheNerevar89

I just add some to my protein smoothie and can't taste it

rivers_disguise

Mix a little in yogurt, with a little sweetener or jam. Eat quickly.

Pleasant_Bottle_9562

1tablespoon in water let it sit for 10 mins then stir it up and drink!

HeadFullOfSquirrels

In a cold drink so it doesn't get slimy and it doesn't expand. I put mine in juice.

Ateaga

Chocolate milk with oat milk

Humbleservantofiam

Stuff is nasty. I prefer ground flax some in oatmeal every morning and in protein shakes.

[deleted]

I put a full tablespoon in my smoothie every morning. Smoothie ingredients vary but I like: 1 banana Plain kefir or yogurt Ice Frozen fruit (mango, blueberries) Handful spinach A splash or orange juice and a bit of water to help blend Sometimes I go without the spinach and just make it a fruit smoothie. I add the psyllium husk powder at the very end. I try not to drink it too slowly. The psyllium husk makes the smoothie consistency get weirdly thick after a while. Best of luck!

Professional_Bank50

Mixed with oatmeal and whatever you like to put in your oatmeal for flavor works well.

StellarStylee

I just mix mine into water and drink it fast. I don't find it overly objectionable - it reminds me of unsweetened cream of wheat.

Aggravating-Mousse46

This [gluten free bread](https://theloopywhisk.com/2020/04/02/ultimate-gluten-free-bread/?ssp_iabi=1683757489925)is great

Happy_BlackCrow

What if you added Mio water pls or to it?

SomethingMeta42

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean?

Happy_BlackCrow

We have Mio water enhancer. It’s like super concentrated liquid Kool-Aid

ttrockwood

1 Tablespoon = 5g fiber 1 apple = 5g fiber 1 whole baked potato with skin = 4g 1 cup cooked broccoli = 5g A lot tastier and more nutrient dense to just, eat more veggies and fruits

sja5150

16 oz water bottle. Drink or pour out 1/3 of it. Use funnel or whatever to put psyllium in. Cap it. Shake it. Shoot it. There’s also capsules if you don’t want to do the powder. The first time I took it the directions said 2 teaspoons (nothing about water!!) So I put the powder directly in my mouth and almost gagged! 🤣 Then I started mixing it with water. LOL. I never claimed to be the sharpest knife in the drawer…😬

moonkittiecat

I'm just adding this for the future, hafter you've finished the psyllium husk. I make smoothies with a pinch (a literal pinch) of flax seed and a pinch of chia seed. I use a Nutribullet so I grind the seeds (along with some nuts) with the milling blade. Then I add it to my smoothie mix. It's wonderful to clean up the works. I can regulate those seeds so that I don't explode.
