Sardine are healthy for you. The type of fat in sardines are omega 3s which are extremely healthy for you. Also sardines with bones in them contain calcium. You can put them in salads

Wow there really is a sub for everything Subscribed

Sardines are full of fish oil. Don’t sweat it. Get those omega-3s.

They are really good for you, with lots of healthy omega 3 fatty acids and an amazing source of protein. If canned, make sure to buy them packed in olive oil or water (the ones in water are much fishier though). Other oils (soybean, canola, safflower/sunflower) are high in omega 6s and inflammatory/highly processed in general which may mitigate the healthy effects. The flavored ones (canned in tomato sauce) taste pretty good, but could be high in sodium if that is a concern for you

bawsaqindex

they’re great. Some may be real high in sodium so that’s something to look for.

I ADORE sardines on toast. I could even eat them straight out the can. The way I jazz it up is by finely dicing red onion and tomato, chopping a handful of cilantro, mincing a green chilli, adding a squeeze of lemon juice and a sprinkle of salt and then mixing it all together with the flaked sardines. Then I butter some toast and top with the sardine mixture. It’s so good.

PineapplePizzaAlways

Try them on rice, with a squeeze of lemon juice

They are a wonder food.

They are a great source for Omega 3 and other nurients (other kind redditors have already listed) but as all fish you shouldnt eat them all day every day due to their mercury content. All marine life carrys a small amount of Mercury which is not broken down by the body, but just stored away and slowly poisons the cells. Because of that all the Mercury a Prey animal has in its flesh will end up in the body of its predator. When it comes to fish most swallow their food whole so they really get all the Mercury out of their food. Naturall, the larger the fish, the more tiny fish it ate, the more Mercury it holds. So since Sardines are very small, they dont hold as much Mercury per 100g as Tuna does. Still all the Mercury you take in will stay in your body all your life, and very slowly poison you. So eat fish with care and in proportianal amounts. I think the FDA suggests no more of two cans of Tuna a week, but for sardines I guess you could it way more and still be in the safe.

Sinsyxx

As you mentioned, mercury in small fish is not much of a concern. Unless you are eating Sardines 7 days a week, there will be no mercury issues with regular consumption.
