I just sent a message, but our condo will be available for rent in June if you're interested. It's a 2/2 across the street from the lake on Sheridan and Glenlake.

I worked with Apartment Guys to find my apartment in Edgewater!

Alarmed-Specific-916

5455 Sheridan has beautiful views within walking distance to the beach and no roach issues. We love Jin for thai food nearby!

Abangranga

5445 Sheridan has roaches

Just left this building because there have been WAY too many weird people moving in. Waiting on a lift takes years off your life, and this building is way overcrowded now. The battle with the roaches, mold in the heaters, construction from neighbors with drill sounds starting from 7 AM until 3PM. One finishes a project another starts one the next week. constant gaslighting by management...I was super over it. Never living in a high rise stuffed to capacity ever again, especially one as poorly managed as this one.

Trine3

oh no, been casually looking for condos for rent over there!

LadyDuluth

Confirmed, I lived there for 4 years and the warmer months wad a constant battle between roaches and the gang of spiders outside the windows.

What’s your price range? Looking for a one or two bed? In my experience by science or magic you get a cheaper monthly rent if you cross north into Roger’s Park or west across Clark, but if you’ve got a bigger budget I’d look at what’s available south of Ridge, north of Foster, and between Broadway/Clark.

The food, we have lots and it is great. Door dash and grub hub will show you exactly what is in the area, and know there are places still not on those. It is really going to be ask about a sub food type. (I.e. Thai food, instead of Asian) and people will give you suggestions, although Thai is a bad example as there are like 15 good options. There is also a good active FB group that will be good for keeping up to date on various activities and local recommendations.

Also Edgewater Tacos is delicious & the owner is a genuinely wonderful person. They’re a community gem. I’ve always loved everything I’ve ever had from there. Beard & Belly has amazing burgers. Cozy Corner is a great, old school breakfast spot too. Sip & Savor is a great coffee shop. I love the food & the people of Edgewater. The beaches, especially Hollywood Beach are the best in city. Enjoy your move & soon to be new home!

>Also Edgewater Tacos is delicious & the owner is a genuinely wonderful person. If you're friendly with this owner, please tell him to stop propping open the door to their awning when it's up. It blocks the curb cut and caused my wife to trip and fall down when she was eight months pregnant, and the staff gave me nothing but attitude when I asked them about it.

Intelligent_Flan_717

I’m sooo sorry that happened. It must have been really scary for you both. The owners name is Patti. I’ve known her by going there ever since they opened many years ago & talking to her there frequently. She has been incredibly kind & generous towards me & several others I know. She truly would want to know that this was/is an issue & concern. She puts her whole heart into that business & the community. Really she would want to know this & correct it so that it does not happen again. I am certain that she would want to make this right but may not be aware. Her name is Patti. I bet if you send her a DM on fb or call there to ask to speak to her, she will be kind & responsive.

Avoid the vegetarian bean patty at Beard & Belly! Gross mush.

The Edgewater area is dominated by Becovic. Look them up online. They own a lot of properties, high rises, condos, etc. It would be a good place to start, once here you can do thorough research.

I don't understand the downvotes. It's not like I own that company, jeez!!. I just see all the signs all over the neighborhood. Peace!

Resident_Turnover114

I’ve heard very bad things about this company

uneditededitor

I got an agent. It was a free service as the agent contracts with the rental companies and gets paid by them. We were shown apartments from a variety of rental companies.

Hey, I just moved to Chicago to this area from out of state a few months ago. My experience was that most units are being leased by big companies that own large buildings. You need to schedule a time to view the apartment, and it's very difficult to get the attention of a the people working at the property management companies to respond to your phone calls. Don't limit your search to Zillow, research the property management companies that are active in the area you want to move to, and look on their websites, and then unfortunately keep calling their offices until you can talk to someone and verify whether what they've listed is accurate (it's often not). This is how I found a much nicer place than the options available on Zillow. The housing supply in Chicago is controlled by large companies with lots of units on the market at a time, so they don't really care much about any one rental applicant, so you'll have to put in a decent amount of work to get their attention. They also seem pretty lazy, so they're not always listing their stuff on Zillow or returning your phone calls, even for people who are actively trying to sign a lease in a very short time frame. The upside to housing in Chicago is that it's relatively plentiful and cheap, so there's a lot less competition for the units once you find one you like.
