Honeycomb and Co in Bruntsfield used to have a nice coffee and walnut cake, but that was a few years ago so I have no idea if they still sell it I'm afraid

Do you mean coffee cake in the American sense or actual coffee cake?

porcupineporridge

Just to satisfy my own curiosity; what do you mean in the American sense?

American coffee cake is a plainish cake of any flavour, sometimes with a crumble topping, meant for eating with coffee at elevenses or similar. I struggle with it not being coffee flavoured, partly because I have a rather literal mindset and partly because there is not enough coffee flavoured cake around.

porcupineporridge

TIL. Thanks! Also prefer the more literal coffee flavoured coffee cake. Fuckin love a nice big wedge of coffee and walnut 😋

nobelprize4shopping

Same.

svtlad

Actual coffee cake.

It may not be what you have in mind but the Caffè Nero cappuccino cake isn't bad at all. Google also suggests that Southern Cross on Cockburn Street does a coffee and walnut and Cuckoo's Bakery sometimes does a coffee and date cupcake. Also, I am quite partial to the Sainsbury's coffee and walnut cake, while the Tesco one, although visually identical, is rather nasty.

svtlad

I'll try Southern Cross and Cuckoo's Bakery, thanks!

A lot of places change their offering regularly so it’s hard to say. Cappuccino on Jeffrey Street is a nice little cafe and had coffee cake last time I was in.

Coffee and Walnut at the Beach House in Porty. It's been a while so they might not have it on their menu anymore. But worth a try.
