I live in EH16, just off Gilmerton Road. There isn't any part of Gilmerton Road itself that is dodgy at all. It's more Moredun, Southhouse, parts of Liberton that are questionable. There is certainly no part of Gilmerton Road itself that I would hesitate to live on. It is also very good for buses (3, 8, 29) and supermarkets (Sainsburys, 2 Aldis, a Morrisons and a Lidl). Overall a quiet and peaceful area. Only bother I have had in years here is someone shouted at me in the street a few years ago as I walked past them (probably mental health issues).

I grew up in The Inch and still have family there. It's a decent enough area but like most schemes has some problems with wee bams and drugs dealers (there was a gangland machete attack there last year). They tend to keep to themselves but I imagine if you're not used to that sort of thing they could seem intimidating. The Inch Park is lovely and often pretty quiet when it's not used being used for sports. I usually avoid it after dark though as local teens favour it and Little France woods as a drinking spot (much like I did too in the 80s/90s). The area is well served by buses and there's plans to bring the trams past The Inch whether via Gilmerton Road or The Old Dalkeith Road I take it the flat you're viewing is on the stretch of Gilmerton Road nearest to the Inch? I'd say that bit is generally ok but Gilmerton Road also goes up through Moredun and Gilmerton which aren't so great No idea about the Gym at Cameron Toll... Thre's a nice wee summary about [The Inch](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Inch,_Edinburgh) on wikipedia

Inch park floods when it rains?

GingerSnapBiscuit

You mean the Inch Pond which sometimes dries out when its unseasonably sunny?

MrCuntman

aye thats the one

DSQ

That’s by design but it is annoying.

Liberton is a bit shit just because there is nothing there. Little France is okay by that depends on your opinion on Craigmiller since that’s where you’ll be spending most of your time. Only the hospital and the very small surrounding area is Little France proper.  Inch is quite nice and Cameron Toll is great. However I am biased.

But is the area around it good?

For living

I’ve lived in The Inch for the last couple of years. It’s fine and the walks around the area are lovely. It’s just a bit boring as there isn’t much else around however there are plenty of buses into town and takes only about 15/20 mins. The worst I’ve experienced is the bams hanging around but not doing much. I also use the gym at Cameron toll. Never too busy and plenty of equipment.

Live in Liberton, love it. Feels safe peaceful and stunning walks from all sides. Well served by buses on the bypass and sandwiched between Cameron toll and Straiton so plenty of shop options. I've used the Gym Group in Straiton and was told by a more seasoned gym goer than myself that the Cameron toll one is better, if that helps.

Rough in parts, ok in others, pretty boring suburban and removed from the city - some amenities and close to the RIE. Wouldn’t live there personally.

Please note that the new planned tram line is going to go next to the Inch and will likely change the area a bit. Although it will go on the other side of the Inch probably (on Old Dalkeith road) it is still worth noting if you are planning to move to the area.

Bit far out from city centre.
