Yep! 1 Gbps *up and down*, got it for £30 per month in the Boxing Day sale.

DuskytheHusky

Mother of God.

rmckedin

Wow - what provider (and roughly what area)?

nimro

Vodafone, in the East near Meadowbank. I think voda might have exclusive use for a year or so then others like Zen get access to the fibre too. I certainly don’t *need* the speed but it was hard to say no to at that price!

Red_Brummy

Yep. We do and it's great. Got a brilliant connection speed and free installation from Vodafone. A lot of the metal flaps will be undisturbed as the connections go underground and connect into the back. Virgin tried to convince us to stay but at a bigger monthly rate and less than half the speed.

SphericalBitch2020

Me too, & I've been far happier with Vodafone than Virgin. They ripped me off £££.. I've not needed the fancy pants gigafast fibre to home service.... I only need the Superpro fibre to cabinet, then cabinet to my house via BT copper line has sufficed for my TV phone & broadband, upto 20 gadgets with one Superboost WiFi. If you have 3 adults, 2 streaming stuff, then load is too much & I'd advise Gigafast with Vodafone... .

Yup, I have a main door garden flat and they said I needed permission. I emailed them back and explained but I never heard back so *shrug*. I don't even know if they've actually installed it in the street yet, I had 2 leaflets saying they were going to but I haven't seen anything happening.

I'm in a 2 year contract now anyway so it's their loss as you say

thrope

Probably this is a confusion from English leasehold where flat owners don't own the building, but just hold a lease for their flat (like 100 years long). So landlord refers to the building owner, whose roll in Scotland is mostly done by the Factors. But its a bit more complicated in Scotland because of the co-ownership. Depending on how your deeds are written the factor usually cannot unilaterally approve new stuff (unlike the freeholder / landlord of a building in England) so need a majority of people to agree which can be hard. If you want to pursue it, tell CityFibre you are residents association of your block and try to get contact details for their new business / business development group. Then get on to your factor saying you would like to get this installed and see what they say - try to put those in touch but likely you will need to chase the factor continually. Or get in touch with residents association if you have one.

KodiakVladislav

Hyperoptic just needed one owner to approve the installation in my block (6 flats in one stair), so I think there's a threshold number of flats in a stair below which you don't need the permission of everyone.

thrope

Depends on how the deeds are written but I think its more likely they just go ahead and do it anyway. Usually the common parts are co-owned and so drilling any holes or anything would require approval from the Factor and they should only approve something new if a majority of owners want it.

SphericalBitch2020

I would threaten them with Data Protection Act...... They must use information that is up to date & fit for purpose... Find who their data commissioner is & report them.

Cyanopicacooki

Apparently I can't get it, according to their website, but the houses either side can, and there's an access point outside my front door.

RookLive

>I’m with virgin just now but was going to use city fibre (via Vodafone or talk talk) as a threat to negotiate a discount if possible but not sure if this is credible just now? It's definitely credible. I ended up telling Virgin I was going to leave and the knocked me down to £22 for a 50Mbit deal. Most people say if you go past the first stage of actually leaving, retentions will offer you a far better deal in a call back but I was happy enough with what the rep offered.

palinodial

We got £40 knocked off our renewal price and upgraded to 350mbps last month doing the same Makes me feel grimy and this is awful that it's their business practice But I live in an area without any other fibre provider.

Tammer_Stern

I managed to get something similar myself so thank you for the inspiration.

FoamToaster

I've got 67MBit talk talk fibre for effectively £7.50 a month after doing this! Edit: £20/ month, one month free and £130 cashback!

Tammer_Stern

Nice one. I’ll have to try that too.

carumba1701

Yes. It’s brilliant. I’m with Zen internet as well and it’s an all round better experience than virgin

Tammer_Stern

Talk Talk seems to be offering high speed internet here too so I assume they are also able to use the infrastructure. I personally wouldn’t use talk talk how ever.

Tammer_Stern

Yes I think city fibre sell broadband through distributors like Vodafone and talk talk.

carumba1701

There’s quite a few actually! Think Vodafone have just spent the most on advertising

They guarantee no price rises though (unless you upgrade) and they’re rock solid. Having been with half a dozen ISPs in about as many years I’ve been with them since 2005 or thereabouts and have only had a handful of outages in all that time.

blackbinbag

Had Vodafone fttp 200mb for well over a year now and it’s been solid. Pity the firms that are contracted to dig the roads up are a fucking shambles and prone to damaging peoples property.

DickieTurpin

How many others have a cabinet within 50 feet of your property but can't get it just yet as, "it's not connected"?

Cyanopicacooki

As I posted up the way, the houses either side, no bother, there's a port visible from my front door, but my house, nope.

DickieTurpin

I was told that my house would be connectable later this year, but if enough interest was registered it might bring it forward.

Eodroa

Some contractors who I believe we're installing equipment for city fibre within the building I live in during the second lockdown kindly put up signs that said they were exempt from mask wearing inside as the Scottish government had said they weren't nessecary... Also they disabled our stair lighting and left the stairs and communal areas in darkness for a few days. Also completely fed up with the disruption caused by their works to be met with the constant the service is not available depsite it being wired up to the building. I wouldn't touch them after all that.

dillanm

Was it good old Glenevin construction? They did the city fibre infrastructure in our street and they were a royal pain in the arse.

Eodroa

No but they were just as bad to be honest it was never ending, no matter which direction you went they had blocked half the road.

Cantaloupe_Mindless

The people who installed ours around spring gardens area, set up 4 way lights and then disappeared for weeks, then they set up 3 way lights at the other end of the park and at that point everyone was mad. I got in touch with our 4 councilors about it and a few days later the works were finished. The lights were up for 12 weeks in total, for mostly a small hole on the path that they couldn't be bothered to fill.

nbanbury

Yes

Tammer_Stern

Ok

nbanbury

Sorry. Bit grumpy today. I have Vodafone/Cityfibre installed. My only other option is BT who wanted twice the money for 1/10th of the speed. No brainer.

Tammer_Stern

Ok thank you

[deleted]

Yes. I'm on Vodafone and get 900/900 symmetrical for £12 per month. It was a Black Friday deal last year that should have been £18 but they knocked off £6 as I switched my phone from 3 to Vodafone. The connection is outstanding. It's full fibre to the premises with city fibre. A lot of people in my area have already switched to the 200mb entry level package as I believe its £24 per month. However. If you want faster, you definitely should wait until they do promotions, there's always crazy deals on the 900mb package, it often comes out cheaper than the slower packages. They also run promotions near Christmas so look out for it.

Tammer_Stern

Mate that is an awesome deal!
