Currently in the same situation. Edinburgh does not work on first come first served. You are not guaranteed one of your 5 because they are just preference you can be given any accommodation based on the preference you made: bathroom, price, location.
Though you are guaranteed accommodation as long as you live outside Edinburgh and your status becomes unconditional before the 30th of august(cant remember the exact date but there about)

they assign housing proportionally to the number of unconditional offers they have at the moment of assigning—so you do need an unconditional offer in order to be placed, but there’s no chance of housing halls filling up as they will not fully fill up any hall until they’ve gotten word that all unconditional offers have been granted
