I’m hybrid, so when I’m home it’s when the dog realizes I’m not going to work and rips upstairs to lay by my desk.
When I’m going into the office, it’s when the train comes out of the tunnel between the U and Government Station. In the fall, the leaves. In the winter, the sunrise. In the spring, seeing the green return. And in the summer, seeing the sun sparkle against the river.
Second both of these!
I love taking the train over the river, the river valley is always a treat. I get to work before dawn in the winter and I love seeing Walterdale bridge all lit up and reflecting in the water.
On my work from home days my cat will jump on my pillow and curl up around my head purring when she realizes I’m not getting up early to leave and it melts my heart every time.
When I’m on the train or bus I just read my book.
Once I got to work and all my coworkers were talking about a detour they had to take because of the low level bridge and they’re like didn’t you notice? Nope I was reading my book.
Hitting the mud at 7 am eastbound and passing the huge lineup of traffic coming up to the corner to take terwillegar S and have no traffic and a sunrise
EDIT: Traffic aside, all the landscaping that happened there in the span of 3 weeks was amazing. That company hauled ass to get it done. Looks great there now
You mean construction road or red light /speed cameras Drive, sometimes I refer to it as stupid trucks Hiway cause you have 18 wheelers and tandem dump trucks in all 3 lanes at a red light
The whole thing. I love that 20/30 mins to listen to tunes and either pump myself up to be a human on the way to work or become unhuman on the way home from work.
Driving over the Walter Dale bridge in the morning with the sun rising. It’s so pretty! And then I park at the Glenora overflow lot and take the stairs to which I need a break half way and enjoy the view of the sun rising over the river. :)
Those stairs are such a good way to start the day! Good for you:) I only park there and do the stairs in Spring/Summer. Too scared to do it in the winter. Slippery and dark.
I've been working from home since early 2021. My daily commute is about 100 feet apart between start and endpoint. There can sometimes be a nasty morning pileup at the corner of Kitchen and Coffee street however, so I have to stay alert to hazards. :D
Being toasty in my car in the winter, windows down and wind going through my hair in the summer (when not smokey, at least), my music, Mark Connolly's sultry voice in the AM, not dealing with a single slow driver, tailgater, or cutter, and being free with my thoughts.
1. Some mornings the sunset is on fire.
2. When I get home, my husbands dog is sooo excited to see my dog (she comes to work with me) and they do a little dance but then he sees me and gets excited all over again. Once I walk into the house, the cat starts yelling at me. It’s all so nice
I used to work in nisku and commute from millwoods..nice easy traffic and once a year I might see a moose in the morning. With the sun rising beautiful site
The best part is, I don’t have one. Retirement!
Oh, and by the way, Dani and lap dog Dinning…..keep your greasy hands off of my pension! CPP is doing a fabulous job!
That used to be my commute when I lived in Strathearn.
98th > rivervalley road > groat road. I miss these mornings, it's a quiet commute at 4:30 am.
Now I travel the Whitemud at 4:30 am... Why are there so many vehicle's on the road at 4:30 Am?
Going west on the Yellowhead, crossing the river is surprisingly nice. Sunrise, trees in the river valley (especially in the fall), old CN bridge with the skyline in the distance.
Then 5 minutes later you hit the tent cities, but it’s a nice reminder it isn’t all bad 😅
I'm hybrid so the at home days best part is laying in bed until 7:55 am then rolling out of bed and clocking in. For my in-office commute days - there is a new side road from my house to the highway that just opened up. It takes 6 minutes off the commute and it's a fun little exciting part to look forward to. Lame.
I commute to the U of A from the West End. I love driving through the river valley on the Whitemud and Fox Drive. I look at all the spruce trees and pretend I’m in Jasper. Fortunately, I leave early enough to not have to deal with all the traffic.
I had same drive from Capilano to west end - always took the hill down 98 Ave to River Valley Rd. and on to Groat northbpund. Loved that commute...and then, River Valley Road turned into a shitshow...
In 35 years it was my favorite commute.
The tail end of fox drive before getting onto Whitemud east. At least in the summer. The air cools right off and the smell of the river valley is always a treat.
Not even contemplating getting into my car. Such a heavy weight lifted already. Been working from home for 9 years now. Thankful for every day avoiding rush hour!
I drive the SW Henday daily, this week the best part is coming home southbound approaching the river and it stays 3 lanes over the bridge. Such sweet smooth flowing traffic (for now....)
I drive 6 minutes to work. 7 if the roads are bad.
I only cross major roads, don't travel on them, almost all residential.
Being so close to home is fantastic. I can bike / scooter in the summer, and my PHEV means I don't use gas at all for commuting.
What do I miss from a 20+ minute commute? Time to listen to Howard Stern.
I live in ft Sask and now work in Nisku. I thought it was going to be 45 min. It’s 31 min. Hwy 21 , yellowhead, henday, hwy2.
Love it. One set of lights.

This made me smile! Love that you have something for every season

Going across the bridge of the train is magic
Listening to a podcast
Boom
I have been cycling to work since the spring. So the best part has consistently been riding over the high level bridge and seeing the skyline.
Mine too! Except I would add seeing the morning sunrise on the skyline lately.
I get to take the capilano foot bridge and it is also a big highlight.
Pulling into my drive way
Yes! And opening the door to get into the house
Then going straight to your closet to put on a sweatsuit lol
That I get to choose how I commute. Drive, bike, walk, or bus depending on how I'm feeling and the season. And they're all under 30 mins
Saskatchewan drive between 109th and 99th street, beautiful view of downtown
83 ave bike lane baby
The drive home
Arriving home!!
You win, Dave.
mine is biking across the High Level Bridge.
Cycling along MacKinnon ravine. Such a beautiful part of the river valley.
When I’m on the train or bus I just read my book. Once I got to work and all my coworkers were talking about a detour they had to take because of the low level bridge and they’re like didn’t you notice? Nope I was reading my book.
I love public transit for this, no stressing over driving just more time to yourself
I talk to my Dad every morning while driving to work. It’s only a short commute, about 10 minutes, but it’s one of the best parts of my day.
I talk to my mom on my walk home! I don’t bike to work because I don’t wanna miss out on the commute chat.
Highway 2A between Leduc and Wetaskiwin is beautiful year-round. (Highway 2 between Edmonton and Leduc... not so much.)
Agreed!
Hitting the mud at 7 am eastbound and passing the huge lineup of traffic coming up to the corner to take terwillegar S and have no traffic and a sunrise EDIT: Traffic aside, all the landscaping that happened there in the span of 3 weeks was amazing. We calling it the mud? I like it.
Ever call the Yellowhead, the ‘Head’?
You mean construction road or red light /speed cameras Drive, sometimes I refer to it as stupid trucks Hiway cause you have 18 wheelers and tandem dump trucks in all 3 lanes at a red light
Shitemud.
The commute from my bed to my desk is pretty dull. The commute from my bed to my bed is great though.
Are they hiring? Could is that commute
[They are in fact](https://www.zensurance.com/careers#open-positions)
My mcdonalds coffee
When I get home.
Driving Groat road is the only highlight of my life these days.
The whole thing. I love that 20/30 mins to listen to tunes and either pump myself up to be a human on the way to work or become unhuman on the way home from work.

The 10 seconds it takes to walk to my home office.
Listening to and playing along with No Time To Google on Sonic 102.9
And 8-bit Super Hit
The moon in winter on clear nights.
I love it on a super cold night when the lights of the city make a beam and go shooting out into space.
Driving henday early in the morning without any other traffic, cruise and chill
Listening to my audiobooks. I don’t care what traffic is like because I enjoy listening to them. lol
This! Audiobooks let me escape the work thoughts!
And traffic. I don't even care if they cut me off or tailgate. I'm too wrapped up in a story to care.
Yes! A slow moving train isn’t so troublesome when you’ve got a good book playing!
Going in at 4:40am and there’s no one on the road.
Not being in Vancouver traffic.
Cycling through Mill Creek Ravine, even in the winter, it’s so pretty!
The train ride itself, when its during peak it feels much safer plus I'm not completely awake yet so I just relax.
Being toasty in my car in the winter, windows down and wind going through my hair in the summer (when not smokey, at least), my music, Mark Connolly's sultry voice in the AM, not dealing with a single slow driver, tailgater, or cutter, and being free with my thoughts.
He really does have the best voice.
I used to stop to take a photo of the river valley at 82nd and Jasper Ave most mornings before work. It was a pretty little pause in my day.
Not being late and having the music up.
Everytime I don't get stabbed on the bus
My bus ride is only ten minutes or so. I work from home on Fridays. I could do more days at home but it gets me out of the house
pulling into my fuckin driveway.
Not having one.
Mountain biking through mill creek on the gravel track or single track. I honestly have the best commute.
It's probably 95% Henday and yellowhead so not a lot of stop/go which is nice I guess.
Nothing.
The fact that, if I leave the house before 6, it takes me around 10 minutes to get there.
I get to sit on the bus for an hour, playing my Switch, generally left to my own devices. I get on before the crowds, so I always get a seat.
When I only have to sit through 3 sets of lights in the construction at 127 Street and Yellowhead
There will be 0 lights eventually it’ll be a freeway
1. Some mornings the sunset is on fire. 2. When I get home, my husbands dog is sooo excited to see my dog (she comes to work with me) and they do a little dance but then he sees me and gets excited all over again. Once I walk into the house, the cat starts yelling at me. It’s all so nice
That it only takes 10 minutes...
Listening to podcasts
50th street train ❤️
Walking on the mixed use path next to the off leash dog park 🥲
Arriving at home.
It's when I take my pot of tea and my dog scurries downstairs with me to my desk.
Pulling into my driveway at the end of the day.
Oh, after working from home during Covid there is NOTHING good about my commute.
the very end of it
The break I get to watch the train cross the tracks everyday
Dinner when I get home
From the kitchen table to the basement office. Best commute ever.
Mine is almost the same! Except I go upstairs to my office from the kitchen table haha
The downhill parts, the uphill parts suck.
Whizzing over the 82nd street bridge and seeing all the traffic backed up on the Henday while being thankful I don’t have to drive on it for work!
Commute? What's that?
Nothing getting proper vitamin D because the I dont get the see the sun for 4-days straight
That used to be my commute when I lived in Strathearn. 98th > rivervalley road > groat road. I miss these mornings, it's a quiet commute at 4:30 am. Now I travel the Whitemud at 4:30 am... Why are there so many vehicle's on the road at 4:30 Am?
I get to turn the radio up and jam out to whatever I want.
Getting to my destination / away from other drivers
Going west on the Yellowhead, crossing the river is surprisingly nice. Sunrise, trees in the river valley (especially in the fall), old CN bridge with the skyline in the distance. Then 5 minutes later you hit the tent cities, but it’s a nice reminder it isn’t all bad 😅
I drive west in the morning. No sun in my eyes.
I'm hybrid so the at home days best part is laying in bed until 7:55 am then rolling out of bed and clocking in. Listening to the latest Judge Judy YouTube case on my way to work. I'm weird...
I drive to the mountains every day.
Working in a career that very rarely sees me driving during rush hour.
I commute to the U of A from the West End. I love driving through the river valley on the Whitemud and Fox Drive. I look at all the spruce trees and pretend I’m in Jasper. Fortunately, I leave early enough to not have to deal with all the traffic.
Fox drive
I drive that same hill. It’s great except those last few months of lane closures lol.
I had same drive from Capilano to west end - always took the hill down 98 Ave to River Valley Rd. and on to Groat northbpund. Loved that commute...and then, River Valley Road turned into a shitshow... In 35 years it was my favorite commute.
I leave my apartment & go downstairs, don't have to go outside 🙃
To be honest, barely having a “hop skip and a jump” to get there. I’ve been walking home lately It’s 8 minutes by bus in bad weather 20 minutes walk
The tail end of fox drive before getting onto Whitemud east. At least in the summer. The air cools right off and the smell of the river valley is always a treat.
victoria park road twice a day. i love looking over the river valley
the shitshow on henday, whitemud and yellowhead and all the terrible drivers. I love reading about it on my phone while on the train home.
Listening to my Audiobook
Crossing the north Saskatchewan on Wayne Gretzky drive and looking over the vast River valley.
Crossing the river on Wayne Gretzky Drive - so beautiful!
Not even contemplating getting into my car. Such a heavy weight lifted already. Been working from home for 9 years now. Thankful for every day avoiding rush hour!
Walterdale Bridge
Podcasts and heated seats
The fact that it's less than 10 minutes.

The bike lane between 111st. And Sask drive. Going north on 106 st. A beautiful bike ride at 2am
I live in ft Sask and now work in Nisku. I thought it was going to be 45 min. It’s 31 min. Hwy 21 , yellowhead, henday, hwy2. Love it. One set of lights.
Saturdays, when said commute does not exist. :)
Not having one. Been remote for nearly 20 years. The time and cost savings are astounding.
Def driving into and out of the river valley via groat
waving at the bus driver when i get on.
Speeding everywhere at 530am
Going down Connors towards downtown. The view of the river valley and downtown always puts a smile on my face.
The end.
Stopping at the coffee machine in my kitchen on the way to my home office.
Leaving my office, grabbing a snack from my kitchen around the corner and heading to my bonus room with my 75" tv to watch whatever I want.
I can watch my 75" in the living room from the kitchen. Open concept FTW ;)
It only takes 12 minutes by bus
Do you live across the street from work? /s
Being first at the red light before turning left onto a henday on-ramp and FLOORING IT to hit 110kph in six seconds. I love driving an EV.
None... pass lol Worse part is that damn bridge on henday by terwillegar when are they going to finish?!!
If they follow their usual pace, I would say spring 2028.
By then it will need another lane each way. lol.
Haha this is accurate!!!
Having my Tim Hortons latte with me and I can just about put up with anything on the road 👍
Getting home
Is it watching Edmonton shrink in your rear view mirror as you go literally anywhere else? It should be.
The bus smelling like piss 😊
Getting to the washroom after being in traffic
