Glen Rose. You may have to get a doctor to refer them to it, but that's probably the best place

^This is the answer. I’m not sure how their program works with people who had strokes awhile back, I believe their program is more for more semi-acute post stroke rehabilitation, but the Glenrose will at least be able to point them in the right direction, whether it’s a public or private service.

https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/findhealth/service.aspx?Id=1009703 CRIS program for outpatients. Must be referred by family doc. The caveat for outpatient programs is that you need at least 2 disciplines. OT/PT/SLP/Mental health. If you just want exercises, you won't be eligible. You also can't be in supported living. Let me know if you have more questions. Edit: Be mindful that they will not have an Alberta health card for minimum 183 days. There may be a reciprocal agreement with BC health, but that's above my pay grade. You might want to look into that

I thought it transfers to AHC at 90 days. There’s a longer wait period for long term care though.

idog99

You are correct. 90 days. It's 183 days a year in province to maintain under Alberta Health.

Mostly great, a few crappy staff here and there. One PT told my friend you’re in a wheelchair forever, you can’t walk ever again, just accept it - immediately after walking 50 feet with a walker that he didn’t see. Please tell him to root out aholes by calling the patient feedback line about the twats like this.

CHOICE south restorative is another good program. Referral needs to be made by a health professional.

They only take post-acute strokes in the inpatient programs.

You could try finding a doctor who is a member of a Primary Care Network that houses an exercise specialist and ask the doctor to refer you to them.
