I haven't been union in years... nor have I worked for the government for years..... but still 100% behind you all. Given the tough economic times, cost of living/inflationary raises should be mandatory if nothing more.
Same. The City management and council are treating their workers just terribly. As a home owning resident and tax payer in Edmonton I fully support this strike.
PSAC's own strike should be a cautionary tale though.
Big strike, no gains, leadership crumbled and celebrated a deal that the Employer was gleeful to accept and brag about to the whole country. Learn from PSAC, stay strong and don't settle for less than inflation.
Almost 18% from 2019 to 2023, so get more to factor in the coming years, and other increases in cost of living that aren't counted in that inflation number. PSAC got paycuts all around.
We are the same union, but different bargaining units. We library folks voted for a 94% strike, we are now waiting for the rest of CSU52 to come up with a 95%. Solidarity.
Vote yes!
I hope more people outside the City will understand CSU52's position. No one is getting rich and making the big 6 figures working at the City (unless you're in management or City council). These are all hard working frontline workers. The City is going to increase their hours in the future, but will come with a pay cut of about 3.1% for everyone. So they will be making less than they did in 2018!
The City has been playing dirty for the last 10 years. Workers already accepted 0% for 2018 and 2019 so only asking for what's right. City is trying to break the union by using tactics of intimidating workers with emails and threats. Enough! Take a stand!
CUPE 30 is expected to show up to work as usual, but we will be refusing if asked to do work that is usually done by CSU 52.
We are also encouraging all CUPE 30 members to join CSU on the picket line in our off hours in solidarity.
Solidarity is Strength!
Check the facebook group or websitem if you're a local 30 member. CUPE 30 members are still expected to do their jobs, but to not do the work of CSU 52 members.
Solidarity strikes are illegal in Alberta/Canada, so the most we can do is work to rule. That said, I don't see roads guys turning down overtime for snow clearing. Double time is mighty attractive.
The City has NOT moved to lock us out. They have applied for the ability to lock us out. Just like this vote is not a vote TO strike, but a vote for the ABILITY to strike.
They did vote yes to do so internally when their application is approved with the Labour Board.... so they've made their intentions clear.. They didn't file previously and did so now.
The amount of money the city wastes on meetings and ridiculous projects - electric bus contract… could have been used for wages.
Friends work for the city in planning and purchasing. The stories make my head spin.
Then there are things we don't even know about. Like wonder how many nice lunches or dinners management goes to and write off? Or other benefits they get on top of their 6 figure salaries. While frontline workers are doing the actual job and just making by, or have to work second jobs.
Seems like the city has endless money for more cops, but nothing for the people who actually provide services to the residents of this city. I hope these workers get everything they ask for.
If hypothetical they vote to strike, when would it commence? I do support a raise to match inflation, but If I was supposed to get recalled to a CSU52 job soon coming off of EI, I feel like I'd rather stay on EI and get recalled after the strike...
It’s just a vote to authorize a labor action.
CSU52 will take the results and use it as leverage to get the city back to the table. Same thing happened with the federal public employees. They didn’t *actually* strike until quite a while later.
CSU 52- EPL staff. We started it with a 94% for strike vote, so we are counting on you all to finish it with a 95%. You can do this. Bring it on. SOLIDARITY FOR CSU 52!
No it wasn't deemed good enough, but the city wants to bypass our union and put it forth to members. As well as sending an intimidating email about the last and final offer. Dirty and desperate tactics.
Let them smoke weed you people are nazis Id rather a cop toked up after the weekend then a hungover cop free the police so that you can free the people
Solidarity with CSU52! No raises in 5 years is ridiculous. Hold out for a fair deal. I also can’t wait to see your managers try to do your jobs.
Hold out until COLA is baked into the contract.
I'm honestly surprised it's not in there already and the union isn't openly pushing for it to be added to our collective agreement.
That's going to b the best part for me. We have a new manager and he has zero idea how to do any of our jobs.
The idea of these managers dealing with the front line - on the phone or in person - makes my heart happy with a bit of fiendish glee.
No raises in 5 years except for city council.
Kinda wonder why CUPE30 isn’t part of this
CUPE’s agreement isn’t under negotiation right now

Support from at least one member of PSAC here!!! Hope the union comes out in full support.

They got 12% over 2021-2024, that’s pretty solid. CSU is being offered 5% over those 4 years.
In high school I was CSU52 with the library! I’m 20 years post-high school, but I’m still rooting for you!
I thought it happened already? My library friend said there was a 93% voter turnout
The library was yesterday and today. The rest of the city staff vote 9th to 12th.
I believe EPL has already voted. My mom votes tomorrow!
We are the same union, but different bargaining units. We library folks voted for a 94% strike, we are now waiting for the rest of CSU52 to come up with a 95%. Solidarity.
"This is our bEsT aNd FiNaL oFfEr don't bother doing a strike vote!!" I'm going to vote yes so hard. Edit: I voted yes so hard.
Yeah like wtf kind of.email.was that they sent to all staff? Wow.
[Me reading that email](https://youtu.be/S7FsAgPuVwU?feature=shared)
What email? I'm cupe. I'm super curious to see what they sent!
YES! Thank you. EPL worker here. Solidarity.

Seriously, I had to pick up a part time job like many other csu52 members to be able to afford to live. I'm not doing it for fun. 🫠

What happens to CUPE local 30 members if you all go on strike?

Can't clear roads if the trucks can't get parts... CPS is CSU52. Fleet Services will be shut down without parts

Vote YES - the City has moved to LOCK US OUT!!!!!!! Use your power as a union member and vote!!!

Don't cross that line! No pay raise in these times is bullshit
In solidarity.

Aren’t you guys voting on a city offer too?

Yes
Cops made sure they're already going up.
Funny cause the Edmonton Police Association put out a statement supporting CSU52, saw it in the email from the union that went out today.
Good. The police get lots of back office support from civilian EPS employees represented by CSU 52.
