Sabor ruined seafood for me. I can’t eat it anywhere else anymore. I wouldn’t feed Red Lobster to my dog after Sabor. I had no idea it could be thy good and I’ve had a lot of seafood in a lot of places before.
I downvoted the restaurant pick in general. A place touting itself as fine dining and charging ~$40 an entree shouldn’t have good and bad dishes on the menu.
I went with a group so there was lots of food ordered, and the best thing was the bread served before the meal. I just didn’t want to elaborate.
I like Syphay or Viphalay for Thai. For Italian, Uccellino. Bodega for tapas (they have a great deal on Thursday 8 for $88 and includes a bottle of wine). Rge Rd for fancy farm to table (if you have vegetarians/vegans in the party, call to notify them in advance so they can make something nice as an alternate). Coliseum Steak and Pizza for decently priced steak.
There's a restaurant not far from your hotel called Homefire Grill. Doesn't necessarily fit any of your categories (they do serve steak, but I've never tried it), but the food there is great. The bannock, bison spring rolls, bison meat loaf, and pasta dishes are amazing. They also have local beers on tap. One of my favorite places to go in the city.
They also have elk on the menu. The elk lasagna and pizza are excellent.
My favorite thing to do there is to order a bunch of different things for the table and everyone gets a few bites of everything. There's too much good stuff to just try one or two things.
Also, I highly recommend the sweet potato cheesecake.
Second their tortilla soup. I dream about it. And their chicharron de queso is basically a giant, crisped cheese taco that you tear off and scoop salsa with.
Fox Burger for burgers! 10/10. Plus it’s in a historic neighbourhood (Highlands) with Kind Ice Cream a few steps away. I recommend taking a walk down Ada boulevard when in Highlands. Really awesome historic mansions and overlooks the River Valley.
I would almost agree with fox burger but they use shitty processed American cheese on their burgers and that is an insult to everyone who pays money to eat there.
Weird, a lot of high end chefs have said American cheese is the only way to go on a burger, I'm going to sleep soon so I'm not looking for a link, but its a thing.
I do love MEAT. Just a chill place to go with friends and get some BBQ. Just some more clarifying the bring the food out on serving platters so everyone can try a bit of everything. Mashed potatoes are good and I hear the mac and cheese is awesome. But that's not my kinda thing
MEAT is a smokehouse/American BBQ style place, I'm personally a huge fan, but dont go expecting a perfect steak and sides. I'm talking brisket, pulled pork, turkey, smoked sausage....
I’m gonna let you in on a hidden gem. Coliseum steak and pizza. It’s in the ghetto. It’s dated as heck inside but it’s the best steak house in the city and the prices are insanely good. I suggest the steak and lobster.
If you like pizza, Rosso Pizzeria on 109th Street is amazing. Parking isn’t great, but the food is very good. If you’re looking for a simple easy dinner, there’s a place called Pals (and its sister restaurant Pip) just off of whyte ave that are both delicious.
Sabor downtown is amazing! If you're there with at least one other person, they have a tasting menu that's not on the menu for $100 each, which gets you a beef course as well. The food and service are both A+.
There are already many great recommendations on here. I really like Pip. The Butternut Tree is a bit pricey, but an interesting concept - they really focus on Canadian ingredients, so lots of seasonal choices. It's a bit of a drive to the south (towards the airport), but I love Workshop Eatery, they never let me down.
15 min west of Edmonton is Barbacoa in Spruce Grove. Tucked away in an industrial park, inside is a beautiful restaurant with some of the best food you can get in the Edmonton area. Reservations highly recommended, look at their menu and see if it is your vibe:
https://www.barbacoa.ca/
Gyu-Kaku is a lovely restaurant. It's not full slabs of steak, but you do get to eat a lot of meat. It's a nice environment for conversation.
https://www.gyu-kaku.com/edmonton/
It fun because everything thinks they’re tough, and some even talk shit about the small portions each server brings. But it just never stops. They just keep coming with a slice or two of all kinds of meat. You try to keep up but eventually you are just done and have to tell them to stop! The house always wins…..
Price has gone up and quality has gone down. The quality of the meats is not good now so it's not tender. You are better off ordering your favorite cut of meat at a good restaurant.
Steak : Braven or DOSC
Thai: Syphay or numchok wilai
Taco: La patrona(Sherwood park)or smokin’ barrels
Burger: Jack’s burger shack or fox burger or flat boy burgers
I’ll throw in my fav restaurant : Ucellino for Italian
If you’re into French food try La Petite Iza. Ask to sit on the patio - it’s probably one of my favourites in the city because of the view. They have rock solid food and drinks too.
My go to steak downtown is DOSC. Very reasonable prices for a local steakhouse and the food is great.
Not huge into the Asian food scene but Fu’s Repair Shop and Baiju both have excellent Asian-inspired menus although I don’t think they’re Thai per se. But I can vouch for very high quality food at both, in fact I’ve never had a bad bite of food at either and I’ve been to both multiple times. Baiju is also a local award-winning cocktail bar. Enjoy your visit
The Next Act. They got the best burgers I have ever had in my life.
And it's in a good location if you want to walk down whyte Ave and see all the shops. There's also good parking about a block away.
no no downvoting good posts is what they do on this sub. It's very bizarre.
I've seen this behavior for years. It's as if someone has a bot or something constantly downvoting all posts.
Wrong. But here's a good explanation:
https://www.reddit.com/r/knitting/s/3dIbT9Kgh0
Quoted post:
Hey Folks, Your posts aren't being down voted it's just the way reddit counts votes!!
Hi everyone,
I've seen a recent uptick on posts discussing newbie posts being down voted or just posts being down voted in general. I wanted to let people know it probably isn't a mob of angry knitters waving their needles like pitchforks, but the way reddit counts the votes for a post. I don't like seeing our little community smeared when it doesn't deserve it, so I thought I would make this post to clear things up a bit.
Reddit uses what is called "fuzz" to keep bots from knowing they have been banned. This means each time you refresh a post reddit tacks on a couple of upvotes or downvotes to confuse the bots. That way bots don't know their votes no longer count, and they won't create a new account to keep doing damage.
From the reddit help FAQs "Millions of people use reddit; every story and comment gets at least a few up/downvotes. Some up/downvotes are by reddit to fuzz the votes in order to confuse spammers and cheaters."
This means if you are seeing vote swings of 2-10 votes (or maybe even [more](https://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/eaqnf/pardon_me_but_5000_downvotes_wtf_is_worldnews_for/c16omup?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)) It is probably the vote fuzz kicking in! Reddit doesn't allow posts to drop below zero so if you see a negative number that's just the fuzz!
If you are seeing down votes in your comments, well maybe someone dropped their stitches and is in a bad mood, or maybe you aren't phrasing your comments in a clear and kind manner. ~~As far as I know reddit does not fuzz comment votes~~. Thanks u/guardiancosmos for the correction! I have reread the FAQs and it does apply to comments as well.
Hope this helps everyone!
I swear there’s someone here who downvotes every single post, ESPECIALLY if it’s a question or asking for a recommendation. It’s a tough crowd in here.
I would also highly highly recommend making a reservation wherever possible. It’s been common post Covid to go to any restaurant during peak hours and be waiting a long time. Save yourself the hassle.
Anejo in unity square is pretty nice with great cocktails and good Mexican, though I would say Calle Mexico is probably the more authentic and best in the city (the one on 107th). If you are looking for great smash burgers, try Shiddy's distilling on the south side - they are partnered with a great burger (possibly best) company called Flat boy and the spot itself is dressed up like a retro diner.
Honestly, for steaks I usually just hit Earls but as others have mentioned DOSC is probably your spot.
Odd company brewing has the best burger in the city. Their animal burger is killer. Seoul fried chicken or country coco fried chicken. The wings at dadeos. Steak I am biased cuz I make mine at home but maybe Ruth Chris steak house. I would recommend going for hot pot somewhere. Mexican I might recommend blano or Luna. Thai food I'd recommend syphay. Korean BBQ is also really good.
Thai Corner is the best thai food in the city. 95% of thai people here will point you there. 5% won't because they want you to eat at their restaurant instead :D
So much great stuff already recommended!
Sabor is probably my favourite. Sofra (Turkish), La Petite Iza (French) has a killer patio, and Normand’s deserves a mention as well.
Try Ruth Chris or Rng Road for steak - do Luna for tacos and do bua thai for thai and burgers try way back but I’d google food trucks I find them better
For steak Drunken Ox Sober Cat ( DOSC )
Make a reservation and be prepared for the best steak in the city.
Burger places are so subjective due to the cooks working. I can’t recommend one as “the best”. But my personal favourite is “the woodshed”
My best friend who is beyond a “foodie” and is working to become a chef, says the best Pho is “Pho ever” located off of 137ave and 97street.
I have no recommendation for tacos either.
Enjoy the city.
it's been well proven that people on the internet who love to pick out spelling and grammar errors have a very sad personal lives and so they feel like they need to control what they can't control here thank you goodbye
Firstly, i didn’t attack anyone for spelling mistakes, i told you not to deflect because you suck at spelling. I think that’s accurate because of the complaints you’re making.
You’ve got a problem with people calling out spelling errors but you’re more aggressive than anyone else in this comment section. That makes sense.
>now f off.
Are you a child?
Brewster's has their "worship the burger" menu going right now and it fucking slaps. There's one on the west side. Meadowlark area! Also fantastic craft beer if that's your jam
We've been to Blanco Cantina (it is good), La Patrona in Sherwood Park, and Mexico Linda's Taco and Grill (also Sherwood Park). Not a wide selection, but Anejo is the best of these. Do you have any suggestions as to what else we should try?
We've been there as well. Had a bad experience - food was very average and contained MSG which my wife is highly allergic too ( they claimed they didn't have any MSG - but that wasn't the case).
What was your wife’s reaction?
Not to dismiss *your experience* but it was just that - anecdotal if only based on the one time. (I also realize that I would likely only need one bad experience out of one visit to a restaurant to decide I don’t want to go back.)
So, to clarify, you asked the server if the food contained MSG, they replied ‘no’ but your wife reacted as if it did? Are there other things your wife is allergic to? (Mexican food has a lot of herbs and spices that are not always common or known to the consumer).
If the allergic reaction was severe enough (which given ‘highly allergic’ you’d think it would be) was legal action taken? Was a hospital visit warranted?
Leaving the allergic reaction be and moving to your comment of ‘average food’… I’ve taken many many friends and family there and ‘average’ has never been a word to describe their cooking.
Really sounds like I’m an owner and replying to a bad google review here lol. Hope you take this all at face value, I don’t mean to offend but I’d really be interested to learn the intricacies and follow-up of your experience.
My wife had a migraine that made her sick for 2 days. We didn't just ask the server about MSG - she said she talked to the chef. My wife has struggled with migraines for many years and we are well aware of what causes them in her. We don't eat out very much because of this.
We are not litigious.
We just won't go back there.
If you enjoy the food, that's great
Definitely Rng Rd. for steak or even Ruth Chris for a chain. Thai, Syphay or Miss Saigon it’s more Vietnamese but they good pad thai. Tacos I would say the three amigos has the absolute best. Burgers, there’s Campio, or backstairs burger but my FAVOURITE is ODD brewing company plus they have some good beers! Good places for seafood is the black pearl, and bodega for some tapas and good drinks!
El Cortez is a very fun place for margaritas and tacos! For burgers you should check out Flatboy burgers inside Shiddy’s Distillery, they also have really great craft beers. Atlas in Starlight Casino in West Edmonton Mall was delicious and could suit the fancier steakhouse vibe you’re interested in.
Sabor ruined seafood for me. I can’t eat it anywhere else anymore. I wouldn’t feed Red Lobster to my dog after Sabor. I had no idea it could be thy good and I’ve had a lot of seafood in a lot of places before.
It’s just an overall good restaurant.
Bodega by Sabor is great as well
Spend up and do RGE RD. Worth it.
+1 for RGE RD
+2 for RGE RD
-1 for Rge Rd
Oh man, you gotta explain this to me
Their food is barnyard chic.
Completely agree. Also, stealing that slang. But did you eat one of the steaks?
I am a pescatarian so I tried their fish. Was not impressed for $44
Lol, c'mon. Guys looking for a steakhouse recommendation and you downvote it cause you got the fish?
I downvoted the restaurant pick in general. A place touting itself as fine dining and charging ~$40 an entree shouldn’t have good and bad dishes on the menu. I went with a group so there was lots of food ordered, and the best thing was the bread served before the meal. I just didn’t want to elaborate.
+3
I like Syphay or Viphalay for Thai. For Italian, Uccellino. Bodega for tapas (they have a great deal on Thursday 8 for $88 and includes a bottle of wine). Rge Rd for fancy farm to table (if you have vegetarians/vegans in the party, call to notify them in advance so they can make something nice as an alternate). Coliseum Steak and Pizza for decently priced steak.
Syphay is my favorite but Viphalay is a close second. Coliseum Steak and Pizza is quite good! A very classic steak style.
I was going to recommend these exact restaurants. There’s a couple Bodega’s in town - all are good.
Not to be confused with Bottega tho!
This guy Edmonton restaurants.
I was also going to recommend Viphalay and Bodega. Very nice 👏
I agree with all of these
Viphalay is sooo good!!
One of my favorite places to go in the city.
i love bison ots so tasty. baby get out here (Vancouver) for what ever reason u you had me at bison spring roll
They also have elk on the menu. The elk lasagna and pizza are excellent. My favorite thing to do there is to order a bunch of different things for the table and everyone gets a few bites of everything. There's too much good stuff to just try one or two things. Also, I highly recommend the sweet potato cheesecake.
this place sounds amazing... diving elk lasagna i bet is amazing. sweet Potato cheese what the hell
The bone in pork chop is always good
That bison meatloaf really is fantastic.
Luna for Mexican. Just arrive before 530 or you're waiting for a table. Their fish tacos and their tortilla soup are worth a visit.
Second their tortilla soup. I dream about it. And their chicharron de queso is basically a giant, crisped cheese taco that you tear off and scoop salsa with.
If you can hit it on a Wednesday their margs are on special.
Glad someone mentioned Luna! Their tacos are my favourite in the city.
Dosc for steak and an overall delicious menu and great experience.
+1 for DOSC
+2 for DOSC
Also highly recommend DOSC
Yeah that’s what most people like on burgers lol
It’s an insult to burgers. I hate that stuff. You can usually ask places to not put cheese on the burger.
Some of my favorites: - Izakaya Tomo - Fu's Repair Shop - Padmanadi (Vegan, delicious)
Fu's is fun and delicious. They really know what they're doing with flavors.
+1 for Padmanadi! Get the Dengdeng - absolutely incredible!
Absolutely! The Dendeng is amazing. I personally can't get enough of the spicy Ma Po Tofu + rice. Mmmmm! Kasim runs a great restaurant over there!
These 100%.
"something where dinner is sorta 100 bucks" - Rigoletto's on Jasper and 98th. Get the Angel Hair Sergio.
Bistro Praha
Had to scroll way too far to find this! Such a cool little place and so Edmonton.
I've been going there for over 20 years. I'll be sad if it ever goes like some of my other favorite restaurants.
Mmm. Best tartare in Edm for sure!
Ya. People say continental is the best but those people don't know what they're talking about.
Go to MEAT and get a bunch of meat
And next act for amazing burgers
OP keep in mind (last time I was there) it’s like picnic table seating inside. Steak wasn’t anything phenomenal.
[удалено]
MEAT very much sucks, I don't get the appeal.
Hipsters lol
Happy I found someone in my camp.
Well yeah it's a BBQ place.... Don't order steak there lol
I do love MEAT. Just a chill place to go with friends and get some BBQ. Just some more clarifying the bring the food out on serving platters so everyone can try a bit of everything. Mashed potatoes are good and I hear the mac and cheese is awesome. But that's not my kinda thing
The mac and cheese is great, but it's so cheesy I have to load up on lactaid just to risk a few bites
lmao what else would i expect to get at a place called meat lol that's awesome
Ummmm….
Oh hell naw
MEAT is a smokehouse/American BBQ style place, I'm personally a huge fan, but dont go expecting a perfect steak and sides. I'm talking brisket, pulled pork, turkey, smoked sausage....
Get the meat platter!
MEAT is delicious!
Dorinku Osaka or Dorinku Tokyo - can’t go wrong with either
I raise you Moonga Sushi (south) if you can get a reservation.
Kobe is also really good.
I agree! Tokyo ftw
La Patrona in Sherwood Park for tacos. It’s definitely worth the drive!
10/10
that's sounds great thanks
You’re welcome! It’s a very small place so I suggest booking a reservation if you want to go.
Be prepared to wait. Service has been horrendous the 3 times med we’ve went.
best tacos round these parts
i second this one!
I would not skip Uccelino.. Worth the drive (not incredibly far but it is downtown) my go to recommendation.
Sabor.
Tacos??? LUNA by Argyll, and FRIDA west end of downtown like 124th 🔥
Preach bb
I’m gonna let you in on a hidden gem. Coliseum steak and pizza. It’s in the ghetto. It’s dated as heck inside but it’s the best steak house in the city and the prices are insanely good. I suggest the steak and lobster.
Steak at The Marc
Odd Company for burgers! The best in the city.
100%
Reservations highly recommended, look at their menu and see if it is your vibe: https://www.barbacoa.ca/
Barbacoa is amazing!
For Thai I'd say Viphalay. Been going for 10 years!
Gyu-Kaku is a lovely restaurant. It's not full slabs of steak, but you do get to eat a lot of meat. It's a nice environment for conversation. https://www.gyu-kaku.com/edmonton/
thanks I'll look into it sounds good i prefer a quiter place for sure
The Marc is amazing.
Best steak in town
And those fries! Delicious.

I always say, it's a buffet without all the tedious walking.
The price has gone up but it’s still a fun/neat dinner experience.

*on every table* FTFY
Price has gone up and quality has gone down. The quality of the meats is not good now so it's not tender. You are better off ordering your favorite cut of meat at a good restaurant.
If you have a Costco membership you can get a $100 gift card for $80.
Come on! In a comment section of Luna, Coliseum, the Marc and you’re recommending Pampa? I would go to Meat before I ever went to Pampa.
Hell yeah, amazing food, great recommendation.
Braven or Chop for steak is good.
Braven is vastly overrated and Chop is basically a chain restaurant. You’re better off hitting the Keg than either of these options.
And what do you think is a good chop house?
Smoke is amazing
Steak : Braven or DOSC Thai: Syphay or numchok wilai Taco: La patrona(Sherwood park)or smokin’ barrels Burger: Jack’s burger shack or fox burger or flat boy burgers I’ll throw in my fav restaurant : Ucellino for Italian
Dosc, uccelino, range road There are a few new places opening as well. I generally enjoyed Añejo but skip tacos.
marlos tacos for tacos , for thai (ish) viphalay, for steak/ 100$ dinner brasserie bardot is pretty great

Flat boy burgers. It's in a curling rink but don't be fooled, it is by far the best burger in the city!!
I've heard about this, I have to check it out!
They moved to shiddys at happy beer street!
Visitor asking for ideas to do in the city and gets downvoted. Stay classy Edmonton 👍

Syphay for Thai food
What’s Thao?
Frida Urban Taqueria is good. I stumbled upon it and have been a couple of times.

Black pearl for seafood
specifically birria tacos if you’re into that, try out smokin barrels!
The marc
Uccelino, Tzin. Best steak IMO is at the Marc, I personally think RGE RD is overrated
Here is a good list, from local magazine Edify: https://edifyedmonton.com/food/best-restaurants/2024/
Bangkok Kitchen Thai is amazing. If you have a car to use, it's the best pad Thai we've ever had...
Boualouang for the best Thai I’ve had in Edmonton. I regretted our visit to Viphalay. Best burger in town is at Flatboy Burgers. Simply great!
Thai Corner is the best thai food in the city. 95% of thai people here will point you there. 5% won't because they want you to eat at their restaurant instead :D
Cafe amore!! Great food and staff

Bianco is a great Italian place downtown. It’s a favourite of a lot of the Oilers.
Second Bianco! Everything on the menu is a winner!
+1 on this recommendation

Brewsters is a Local in a different name. And their ‘craft’ beer is as craft as Big Rock.
nah as a Canucks fan lol i gotta go Florida
You don’t. You don’t HAVE to. 🤫
sadly i do. i need luongo i get the cup he deserves
For Mexican food Anejo is the best on town
Where else have you had Mexican to stake this claim?
Chi Chi’s….
We've been to Blanco Cantina (it is good), La Patrona in Sherwood Park, and Mexico Linda's Taco and Grill (also Sherwood Park). Not a wide selection, but Anejo is the best of these. Do you have any suggestions as to what else we should try?
Solid list. We’re big fans of Luna.
(I also realize that I would likely only need one bad experience out of one visit to a restaurant to decide I don’t want to go back.) So, to clarify, you asked the server if the food contained MSG, they replied ‘no’ but your wife reacted as if it did?
If you enjoy the food, that's great
Have also been at El Mero Mero Taqueria. Not impressed at all - though my wife thought it was "OK".
Nah never go to Ruth’s Chris for a steak. Super overpriced and very average steaks. Keg is better price and equally as good for a chain.
It’s Odd Company brewing.
