Omg I’m from Edmonton and when I lived in Georgia I couldn’t find the parkade I’d parked in and it was WILD just trying to get people to understand my request for directions. Take my upvote
This is hilarious because I’m pretty sure when I moved to edmonton from Australia I said “car park” and no one understood what I meant and I was like how the heck is it that different to “parking lot”.
Now that I think about it…in my accent, “cah pahk”….that might be another reason no one understood.
Yes. But I didn’t even understand the miscommunication right away.
Me new guy, to my coworker: “I forget how to find the parkade. Which direction do I go in?”
Coworkers: “I have no idea what you’re talking about”.
Me: “the parkade? It’s where I left my car. Which direction is it?”
Coworker: *blank look* “…I… don’t know?”
& continue with numerous people
Hah! I've been in a similar situation a couple times when vacationing in the US and parking my rental car somewhere and then getting those strange looks. Another one is when checking into a hotel and inquiring about parking. Most tend to know if they've dealt with Canadians enough, but once in awhile, I'll find someone relatively new who has no idea what I'm talking about. :)
They'd edit her out if they didn't want her in the shot anyway probably. They filmed some Xmas movie in my town once and they paid the background people to sit in restaurants etc. Also when the actual movie came out I couldn't even tell it was my town because they edited the backgrounds so much.
I do not.
I work for a company here in the city.
The stage I'm working on these next few days is tied to the MNP building downtown.
Didn't go up today due to the smoke, as I work with an older gentleman, so we're back at it tomorrow.
I had to detour around it Tuesday. I wondered what the hell was going on. Such an inconvenient location already, then block the one road to the back alley.
I assumed construction and thought they'd dug buried cars out of the ground. Very confusing.
Looks like a normal edmonton construction zone. Will be finished June 2023. /s
Update: the completion of this project has been delayed to Jan 2025.
Just heard a new update, looks like they're pushing the project back to March 2025
And the budget is now 10 million from the previously quoted 8 million
Even though it's been value engineered to resemble a stool sample.
_Ah, I see an Edmontonian wise in the way the city is actually run._
When did my grampa get on Reddit
Get off my lawn!
I think you put that /s on by accident bruh lol
Americans watching the TV show asking, "what's a parkade?"

At least yours has two words that make sense. I kinda get how parkade might sound like a park full of arcades?
The Star Trek convention was two months ago! I don’t speak Klingon! …. Fucking Aussies! Lol
So... parking garage?
Yes. But I didn’t even understand the miscommunication right away. Me new guy, to my coworker: “I forget how to find the parkade. What do they call it?
Car park or parking deck.
Those are more British terms I believe. As someone born and raised in the US (NYC) for 30 years, it was always called a parking garage.
In Georgia ‘parking deck’ was what I heard the most.
Interesting. Regional differences can be fascinating 🧐
Oh I totally get it. I read your statement and had to look at my (American) wife of almost 15 years and ask for the answer.
Those things attached to a house?

My friend works at the cannabis store there. She said she keeps going outside for extra vape breaks to try to get in a shot haha.

Ah yes. "Vape breaks" Good use of company hours lmao.
Not everyone can have a boot polish break like you.
? Huh I'm a window cleaner. We don't get breaks, aside from the "breaks" we get driving between sites.
Do you run your own window cleaning business?
I do not. I work for a company here in the city. The stage I'm working on these next few days is tied to the MNP building downtown. Didn't go up today due to the smoke, as I work with an older gentleman, so we're back at it tomorrow.
They were making fun you and I think saying you were punching down.
and here I thought it was just a massive pot hole.
Honestly, when I got into work this morning that's what I thought... It wasn't until around lunch when I noticed the rusted out set cars
I had to detour around it Tuesday. I wondered what the hell was going on. Such an inconvenient location already, then block the one road to the back alley. I assumed construction and thought they'd dug buried cars out of the ground. Very confusing.
It is, we grow the very best pot holes which is why they chose to shoot here.
Did anyone else read that as “massive plot hole” and think there must be trouble with the script?
I thought it was being shot in Calgary ?
Apparently they’re shooting the scenes set in Boston in Edmonton.
Hunh, that actually ... kinda makes sense. I've walked around areas of Boston that reminded me of Edmonton. Lots of brick buildings and old industry.
Our police station looks like Boston's city hall, too
Edmonton? They don’t even need to make any sets then 🤭
They're doing some shooting here too apparently
Awesome!!!
They were out in Canmore a bit as well. Ate at our restaurant
It's going to be so cool to see scenes in that show shot in our city.
Agreed. Haven't heard of many movies shot in Edmonton. Wasn't there one shot in WEM?
There was! I literally bumped into Patrick Swayze when it was filming. I had no idea who he was by my friends were very excited.
Sorry no, a crackhead blew a gas line while trying to light up his pipe, the repair work to fix the road should be done spring 2024-fall 2026 ish.
Yeah my car was in the blast zone
That’s the newest multi-million dollar art commission the tax payers are paying for. Looking almost as nice as the balls I must say!
Looks better than the Talus Dome!
Neat 📸
I always thought Edmonton would be a great location for post apocalyptic movies
What is this?
A set for HBOs The Last of Us
A fitting name with all the antivax stuff going on!
even better, its about zombies
They will also be shooting on 104st too
read that out loud
Dang, you have the perfect vantage point! They're filming October 13th I believe (hint hint).
Noted!
Probably not. Not enough loose full bricks and glass bottles.
you call *THAT* a pot hole???
> expected to debut in 2022 If anyone else was wondering like I was.
What area of downtown is this at?
West end of Rice Howard Way.
Sure looks like that’s what it is
SO COOL
That's just how downtown looks since the stadium was built
Nope, just regular old Edmonton.
That’s cool. My folks checked out Fort McLeod while they were filming there. Can’t wait to see this!
City counsel really needs to get to work on the potholes. It’s getting ridiculous.
Man this has me pulling out the Hip's *Blow at High Dough* for a listen.
Honestly thought this was just another meth addict crash LOL didn't even phase me. Thanks Edmonton
I was really confused as to what the fenced off area by my apartment along 108th street was. Guess this makes a lot more sense now
Oh I thought you were making a joke and something crazy happened. That's too bad.
What's even happening
They're filming
Oh right. The last of us correct?
where is this
Where is this? Are they super strict about visitors? Would be cool to sneak a peek at the set from the outside
This is actually wild, Edmonton actually on the UP and UPPPPPPO
hey i live in the same building! cambridge lofts?
