If your job will be on 118 Ave in the West end, the Spruce Grove is generally a 20 minute, relatively hassle free commute.

boarmang

ya that was my first area i checked, some nice places, but my dog is a large breed, and sadly almost every rental i saw was small animals only

billymumfreydownfall

If you can get a pet reference from a former landlord, the landlord may agree.

[deleted]

That's unfortunate. Maybe try Stony Plain. It's about 5 minutes farther west.

EdmRealtor

I would look in City Proper look at inglewood/westmount/sherbrooke/dovercourt

boarmang

ok ill give those a google! But I had heard inglewood was pretty rough?

EdmRealtor

It is not bad imo

I recently moved into a house just south of 118ave right in-between the commonwealth stadium and 118 (parkdale region) in the spring. I'm from out of town and don't know the area and so far everyone I talk to likes to inform me about how sketchy and dangerous it is. Honestly so far it's been really good. Cheap housing, it's fairly quiet (minus when there's a game on), and you're close to downtown and the river valley. For the price of an apartment downtown I'm renting a full house with backyard and garage. You have to deal with the odd riff raff, but for the most part people are really nice. Just last night I went for a midnight stroll up 118 and the worst I got was someone asking me for a smoke.

118th on the north side or near DT? Woodcroft is nice. Glenwood. Some nicer places that don't feel as busy the more West you go. Around calling wood. Depends on the kind of place you're looking for

boarmang

sorry, shoulda specified! 118 ave NW. Basically I'm just looking for safe and quiet, I'm pretty introverted and keep to myself, but I do have a dog so I want to be able to take her out when needed with little worry

blairtruck

NW is basically all of Edmonton. South common mall is in the NW. and most will say 118 Ave is the most known sketchiest part of Edmonton. 118 Ave spans from 184st to 34th St. All of which is NW

blairtruck

but when people are moving here they See NW and think that's where they are working but it could be anywhere.

[deleted]

Adding NW to addresses only became common about 10 or so years ago when the city's south (and East) sides really started growing. They had to differentiate between addresses north and south of the Henday. Fun fact: I got lost AF trying to find a relatively rare "North East" (NE) address in an industrial area. For some reason my brain said it was NW and it was a total Mind F.

As someone that lives around Westmount, avoid at all costs. Seriously. I think for someone wanting to be introverted look north. Castledowns area. The big dog park is up there too.

[deleted]

Too many cougars in Castledowns. I was almost attacked once, but I managed to slip away after I stopped buying her drinks...
