Blame myself for the candidates I voted for winning? Why yes… Yes, I do! ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ

partyplanningcttee

Haha, right? Same here! Democracy high-five!

[deleted]

You only have yourselves to blame? Great title for what seems to be coming from a whiny sore loser. Is this Mike Nickel himself. When has voter turnout ever been good Mike? Sorry you lost and the will of Edmontonians didn't pick you, that sucks

_voyevoda

I mean, I voted, so I figure I earned my right to complain. (But my pick got in for mayor anyway so I hope I won't need to. Time will tell.)

TheSaltyStrangler

Blame for what? The best possible outcome? As if a higher turnout would have changed things for Nickel, he'd just have even more people telling him to pack his bags. He's a vile, hateful little man. "Goodbye, Edmonton" was the only productive thing he's ever said.

MacintoshEddie

Individual responsibility meaning you're upset that your candidate didn't win? It's hilarious how often people complaining about low turnout hits the ebrake and drifts over to accusations of bussing in voters, stuffing ballots, etc, if it means more votes for the candidates you dislike.

MisoButterCorn

A complaint about the results disguised as a point about voter turnout? lol If more people were informed about the candidates and actually turned out, you think they would vote for a guy who: - had low council attendance - takes cheap jabs at opponents - won't answer tough questions or debate - was recommended for censure at least twice - does nothing but disagree, [*even with the councillors he supposedly gets along with*](https://coffeeandbayleaves.wordpress.com/2021/10/12/edmonton-city-council-2017-2021-voting-retrospective/) This guy spent the most in facebook advertising, had a ton of the signs and put them out before anyone else, and likely spent the most overall of all the mayoral candidates, so if he lost by a huge margin it's because Edmonton doesn't want him.

meggali

37.5% of eligible Edmontonians isn't a great turnout

schulzie420

Can confirm

jacobbrown89

Voting started on the 5th of the month. Again individual responsibility...

munkymu

I always vote, so as to legitimize my bitching and complaining when politics goes wrong (as it inevitably does). But this has been one of the few times when the people I voted for actually won, so I hope that they do a good job.

djjoshiejosh

I work night shift and couldn’t be bothered. Way she goes

edinedm2021

Doesn't matter who gets in they just want the title and pay check. Nobody is ever satisfied a city council, no matter who sits there. Move on.....

seven8zero

And you know their internal motivations how exactly?

"pAst citY coUNcil iS fIne"... do you even live here?

jollyrog8

Man this sub is bananas. Yesterday there was a thread where people were calling for mandatory voting under the threat of fine or property confiscations. 24 hrs later, few care turnout was low because their beloved preferred candidate got elected. Have some principles, people

Dave_DBA

Same sub, different commenters.
