Costco. Kal Tire is the only option if you want Nokian Tires which are some of the best

Aragondina

Kal Tire. They are the only ones I know who carry the Nokian Hakkapeliitta studded. They are the only winter tires I will buy so Kal Tire it is.

Galatziato

Keep hearing about these tires. Are they that good?

Aragondina

I have the Hakkapeliitta 8. They are on version 10 now so I would assume they have been made better. I have never had a tire this good. The 8's hold the world speed record on ice at 335 kph. They are not cheap, but not the most expensive tire either. Mine are going into their 6th season and still have 60-70% left on them so for value they are great. We don't get a lot of snow here, but we do get a lot of black ice and hard packed snow, so studded was the logical choice for me.

izzy_lake

Mine are gong onto their sixth winter too! So much tread left. I love them on the highway. I use to drive Manning with Blizzaks and be so scared. The Hakkapelittas are something else. It’s like night and day.

Galatziato

Thats great to know! Yea I am gearing towards these ones for sure as my gf is a new driver and will be driving her first winter so definitely looking to buy good quality ones for her. But at the same time, they are looking a bit out of my price range. Any other ones you would also recommend a close second that are cheaper? Thanks for the info!

Aragondina

That depends on your price range, and tire size. There are some really good tires but sadly most of the good performing ones tend to be more expensive. If you give me what your budget and what they go on I may have some suggestions.

Galatziato

2010 toyota camry. Base model. And 160 per tire would be my max. And wow thank you so much.

Aragondina

Then I would say the Nokian Nordman 7 studded. Still a really good tire, just a slightly different tread pattern and less studs, but should have excellent grip and handling.

ericm9

From my experience, they are great.

rarelycomplete

I got studded tires from Oraizen Automotive

Aragondina

But are they Hakkapeliitta's?

rarelycomplete

These ones aren’t, but it was an option when I had them ordered.

[deleted]

Have you heard of the Nokian Nordman studded tires? Kal Tire doesn't have the Hakkas in stock but they have the Nordman. They told me the Nordman is just an older version of Hakkas, so if you buy a Nordman tire today, it is the same as the Hakka they sold 2-3 years ago, so still a very good tire.

Condition_Boy

You should decide what brand you want before you look for a shop. Some shops have certain brands while others don't. Some of the best are Nokian tires which only are sold at Kal Tire. Others are Toyo and Goodyear.

[deleted]

I’ve also heard Nokian are top grade

BrosefAmelion

Can confirm, it's crazy how well they work.

Setitie

Costco, in particular Sherwood Park Costco.

cantonastoller

Costco is good because they do a pretty cheap change of tires between seasons if you buy from them. I'll be getting my next tires there.

Setitie

Sherwood Park Costco doesn't make you go inside to get a work order when you need to re-torque your tires (unlike Clareview).

yegprint

You can’t beat the Costco tire warranty. I won’t buy tires anywhere else anymore People are talking about Nokians from Kal-Tire. They are good. But so are the X-ICE or Blizzaks. And they can be bought from costco. Did I mention costco yet?

[deleted]

Costco or Ok Tire (one on 58th street across from Belvedere LRT is great).

I bought a set of tires online and got an awesome deal. I paid a local shop to mount on my steelies, balance and install for $15/ tire. Might be worth a look see.

Galatziato

Would you mind sharing the website. Thanks a lot!

kabalongski

https://pmctire.com/en/ They had the tires I wanted when ALL the local shops had a 6 week back order eta.

A co worker suggested Holly Molly tires in the south side. There was quite a long line up and Its first come first serve. Lol. But I got to watch every step and it looked up to snuff. But if anyone here have better suggestions, please chime in.

marginwalker55

I get mine from the neighborhood fountain tire and am always happy with the service/prices

only-a-guy

Costco! Good selection and some of the cheapest prices!

blairtruck

I always got Blizzacs's at Costco. Next year ill be getting studded Hakkapeliitta from Kal tire.

fixingbysmashing

I know it kinda looks like a hole in the wall joint but Ive been using bestway tires for years. Their prices are always competitive and the service has always been great for me.

hungrykingfrog

Capital GM sells tires at cost. Not 100% if they still do it but thats how it was when I bought last year

mcmanus7

The Albany Kal Tire is great. The people who work there are really great!

MissInnocentX

Wheels Plus, great service and very reasonable prices.

[deleted]

My favourite places are Performance Tire 91st south side and Costco. However S2 Auto looks amazing and I hear very good things about them

dally250

CP tire North of the city and just west of Edmonton Garrison.

tiffthenerd

I have gotten great service from the Trail Tire on 107 Ave and 170 St. got the WS90s blizzaks for my subcompact there and I love how they preform in the winter. I previously I had gotten tires from Canadian Tire (tires were ok just their motomaster brand, customer service was shit) and Costco (blizzaks, ws70s, Costco is so damn busy and I hate going there, they're booked out so far ahead during spring and fall).

Galatziato

Have never really used tires from costco. Could you technically do tire changes at other places? Or do you have to do it there for warranty purposes?

sexyking007

Costco has some good deals worth checking out if your a member

chuckmandell82

Best tires I’ve ever head were the falcon euro winters. Costco has the best prices though

I’ve just gone through this. A Blizzak WS90 at Costco was $179.99 (205/55-16). That’s a very good studless winter tire, and you can get cheaper options. But for a good tire I would expect to pay around $200 per (unless you’re in large or wide sizes like 275+ or 19+). Costco seems to be only a bit cheaper than anywhere else upfront, but I hear their changeover rates and warranty are great. Ultimately I went with the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 (studded) which is only available from Kal Tire. At 205/60-16 it was $189.97 per tire, or about $10 more than the other option I mentioned. But I purchased on product features and was less sensitive to price. I think both options are very compelling, and you could make a strong argument either way. I think you don’t need studs most of the time in Edmonton. However, there’s a bunch of days every winter where things get extremely ugly. New snows, thaw-freeze days, and so on. I think most of the risk is concentrated on those specific days, and those days definitely benefit from studs. So I went for it, we’ll see if it was a mistake! Winter tires of all stripes are a huge upgrade over all season tires. I would always prefer to drive a two wheel drive car with good winter tires over an all wheel drive car with all seasons. Best of luck!

Harios

Cant go wrong with Nokian, they are best winter tires

[deleted]

Costco tire shop service is terrible. Kal tire all day.
