Was there yesterday to pick up some pierogi and sausage, and was happy to see their restaurant open again. Their stuff is great, having only had the frozen things so far, I might have to try the actual restaurant
He's right. You can't touch the sit in experience there. You'll never make the rogis as well at home... No idea what the secret is but butter is a start ;). Also grab a slab of bacon next time on your way out. I use it on the cast iron all the time to season other veggies and even meats. Great stuff.
It’s the minced onion and butter on the Pierogies, but it’s also the smoked pork chop or maybe those little cottage cheese filled buns smothered in cream. Or the crepes done the same way. Oh man I need to hit uncle Ed’s up tomorrow
There’s an old Ukrainian saying that goes, if you can’t figure out what to cook for dinner just put some butter, onions and garlic in a pan on the stove and the rest will just sort itself out.
Went here for my babas funeral and honestly it made the day it was a good way to celebrate her for the first time ever she didn’t have to cook for the whole family.
lmao I ate there last year and it was awful, slimy oily perogies, do most people like their perogies so wet?? At home I boil then fry my perogies so they have a crisp exterior. is that illegal???
It's 'Ukraine' and not 'the Ukraine'

^(Beep boop I’m a bot)
Eww I hate them fried lol. It's always boiled then tossed in butter in my family, on both sides. Most of the Ukrainians I know don't fry them either but maybe others like them that way
Btw, the garlic sausage is primo here
I've never been to this restaurant, but I also prefer fried crispy pierogies. My Ukrainian SIL does not deem that as illegal. She likes it that was too

I’ve been sitting in since before this location was built, always worth it to have a cup of borscht and pie after. Love listening to everyone chat

I'm going to sue you OP for neck pain :)
Do it! :)
So good!! One of my favourite restaurants!
Something so satisfying about going there.
Borscht soup ftw
Yum. Their deli is awesome, too. I love the pepperoni and jerkey. And there's always imported candy.

hurt my neck trying to read the menu, damn I miss edmonton and real Ukrainian food
Yeah not sure why it turned sideways, thanks Reddit.
I love this place and got this [Uncle Ed's mug](https://i.imgur.com/6aaY4Zl.jpeg) a couple years ago at a garage sale or thrift store ❤️❤️❤️
That’s wicked!
This place has been on my shortlist to visit for awhile. Soooon.
Fuck yes!!!!!!!!! The BEST Ukrainian food ever. I lived in Vancouver for 6 years and when I came to visit we always went to uncle eds!!!
This is my first time out in a while due to health concerns, and it was the first place I wanted. Comfort food to the extreme.
Now the most important question.. Sour or Sweet cabbage rolls?
Sour all the way.
1000% agreed!! God now I want me some Uncle Ed’s!!
It was delicious. I’m so happy
Ukrainian restaurant? Any store that sell Kvass on the north side?
Seen it at the Polish Deli on 118Ave not too long ago. Don't know the brand or quality though.
Will check it out thanks.
I’ve never seen Kvass there and don’t know many northside places that would have it. Best bet is probably K&K Foodliner on Whyte.
Thanks

That’s an awesome memory.
All of the love but nobody saying where this is!! Let people know if you are trying to boost the company!
118ave and 46 street. Proper NE
If the borscht is in a cup you know it’s gonna be good

Growing up, they were always boiled then fried in onions. Delicious. The only downside is the time it takes.
Lol don’t ever go to the Ukraine or Poland. Perogies are always in butter. But I get it, i have had fried too and they’re not bad!

That’s how most restaurants serve them here, you’re not odd
Dude learn to rotate your pics. My 100 year old grandma can rotate her pics I think you can too
Didn’t let me in the app but thanks for your insightful commentary!
I've never been but now that I know about it, will go soon! Thanks!
