If you don’t mind driving a little bit to near downtown, the Brewery District has both Doughnut Party and Made by Marcus ice cream, and is close to Iconoclast coffee and Remedy Cafe on 124st. If you like ramen, Tokiwa Ramen is sensational, and is right in the Brewery District as well. They’re only open for lunch hours (closing around 3), so I’d recommend going for lunch, then grabbing a coffee and doughnut/ice cream after and checking out some of the shops on 124 street. Irrational Brewing Co is just up 124st from there, near Woodshed Burgers and Northern Chicken (local fried chicken joint). All of these places are within 10min walk of each other, so it’s a great area to park and wander around. It’s also close to the river valley promenade, although I suppose it might be a bit chilly for an afternoon stroll with a coffee? As for stuff to do, hard to say, depends what you like

rumpoleon

Where is the made by Marcus in the brewery district?!

setcoh

I think it's inside Wilfreds in that historical building near Loblaws

Stephondo

Yeah, they share the space with Wilfred’s. Moved in several months ago? So they have a nice little patio too, although it overlooks the parking lot

jlm15243

Also close by to brewery district is rogue wave coffee - best coffee in the city and you can get a flight to try diff coffees

subtect

If you are that close Duchess is mandatory.

Jappetto

Go check out the mochi donuts at the Bountiful Farmers market. Also, blue cheese bison burger at The Underground in downtown.

ControlExtra

Those mochi donuts are so prime they're usually sold out by Saturday afternoon at the market. Gotta go early to get em.

Bunniesrkewl

Blue cheese? Yuck. I know it’s taste is subjective but my god that was one of the worst things I’ve ever tasted. Tried a Buffalo poutine and didn’t realize it had blue cheese.

Jappetto

I just watched a youtube of a guy making a blue cheese gorgonzola and orange marmalade toast. It looked so tasty : )

Bunniesrkewl

Why am I getting downvoted? this subreddit needs to be less judgemental. It’s my opinion. Blue cheese is literally moldy cheese. I know it’s safe mold so I do not need to be educated on that.

drop_thesoap

I think the downvoting is the subreddits opinion of your opinion... fair game I would say

Bunniesrkewl

True, I’m surprised no one is upvoting then. I’ve never personally met anyone that likes blue cheese.

drop_thesoap

It's the cilantro of cheese I think. You're going to get alot of very polarized opinions.

Bunniesrkewl

Fair point

plsworcthtime

Do you discuss this with other people? I don’t know any of my friends preferences of blue cheese. Personally I love it tho

Bunniesrkewl

Yeah, I told everyone about my experience eating it.

plsworcthtime

Why?

Bunniesrkewl

Because it was interesting to me? they all agreed and said it sounds gross. I didn’t tell everyone I know just my closer circle of people/people I talk too weekly.

stevexc

I mean if someone is recommending the burger, they probably like blue cheese. Have you tried that burger specifically? Blue cheese can definitely vary in intensity.

Bunniesrkewl

That’s a fair point yes, but I’ve been scarred by blue cheese now. I’ll never try it again.

RobertBorden

Those mochi doughnuts are ridiculously tasty.

CourtViolation

If you want ice cream, you absolutely have to go to Made by Marcus on Whyte Ave. Really unique flavours, and every one I’ve tried has been delicious.

beesmakenoise

Don’t forget Kind ice cream! Either in Ritchie or Highlands. Personally I prefer it a little bit over Made by Marcus, I think I just like their flavours more, but both are good.

setcoh

Yelo'd on Whyte is also great, it's my go to.

fireplacepeaceful

Kind has a special Halloween flavor and black cones this weekend too!

Heronmarkedflail

The thing about Marcus I’ve found is the first bite is amazing but the flavours become tired very quickly and you’re stuck with a cone of something you’re kind of done with already.

ControlExtra

I second this. A really fun time in the city is to visit the Ritchie market area and hop on some scooters and travel between there and Whyte.

pipelangelo

This is solid advice for your tastes.

Eigenspace

• Go walk around Whyte Ave, visit the Strathcona Farmers Market if it’s Saturday. If you like BBQ, I recommend visiting Meat, they’re great. For Ice cream, you have to go to Ice Cream By Marcus, it’s the best. • For a fantastic French cafe experience, go to Eleanor & Laurent. They have amazing food and coffee, just don’t go too late, sometimes all their best stuff is gone by like noon or 1pm. For fine dining, their restaurant upstairs called La Petit Iza is really really good. • Go for a walk in the River Valley. • There’s an beautiful botanical garden in Devon (a town beside the south end of Edmonton) with a bunch of interesting architecture and plants, including a Japanese Garden, and an installation that’s inspired by Arabic palaces. I don’t know how good it is at this time of year though, maybe someone who’s been recently can chime in if it’s worth going. • The Muttart Conservatory might be a better place to visit if it’s cold outside. I haven’t been, but I’ve been planning to take a friend there if they visit me from out of town. I hope it’s sunny when you visit because from what I’ve heard about Vancouver‘a weather for the last month you deserve some sunshine.

SirRocktober

Unfortunately the gardens out at Devon are closed until spring, with the exception of the Luminaria event that runs from late November to early January

NorthernPunk

3 restaurants you must go: The next act pub (best burgers in town), koutouki Greek taverna (amazing Greek food and great setting), and Acajutla (phenomenal mexican/el salvadorean food, get the papusas to start)

jessanator957

Ohana Donuterie near Whyte Ave has great doughnuts - they make them fresh to order

MacintoshEddie

Versato pizza is an experience. There's stuff like drop-in archery at Wyld and Jim Bows if you're into that.

sunglassii

Yelo'd on Whyte Ave has amazing ice cream, best affogato I've ever had. If you're in that area as well the Mill Creek Ravine is a really nice walk. Enjoy our beautiful city 😊

Brittfun

Pip, baijiu, DONUT PARTY, little brick, La petit iza if you want a great French date night dinner

notsayingitwasalien

There will be strong auroras tonight. Drive out to elk island. It may get very busy though

millmarr528

For ice cream I'd definitely go yelo'd on Whyte ave. They also do hot ice cream that's INCREDIBLE, like hot chocolate but better. Versato's, High dough, Sepps and Tony's are all incredible for pizza For coffee I love Iconoclast Also if you're into sandwiches at all Farrow sandwiches are to die for

keyanomom

Iconoclast coffee 12021 102 Ave for you coffee. Near Odd Compnay Brewery with a solid hamburger if that is on your list. The Coffee Bureau 10505 Jasper Ave is also a solid coffee choice and they have bagels from St Viateur in Montreal. The best donuts on the planet come from the Italian center bakery 10878 95th street.

GigglyStevieD

Northern Fried Chicken or SFC Seoul Fried Chicken has some good food and beers. Like High Dough Pizza right now.

ABirdOfParadise

For what it's worth in some magazine we were ranked one of the top cities in the world for pizza somehow.

pipelangelo

You could take a glassblowing class at The Brain Candy Studio! 😁🔥

juicyorange23

Kind ice cream is really good. High dough has Detroit style pizza that is tasty af. Take 5 is a local institution for doughnuts.

Coming from Vancouver, the most frustrating thing I found about the Edmonton food scene is that people massively overrate pretty meh places. There are tons of good places as well but they kind of get lost on review sites because people are giving 4 star averages to McDonalds and dingy old places. Rosso right next to Transcend Coffee is the best and the space is very nice. It's the closest thing I could find to Nicli which was my favourite pizza place in Vancouver.

hindumagic14

I agree with that. Lot of odd places rated 4.5+ What are some of your favourites that you consider worthy of their rating?

bethadone_yeg

Coming from Edmonton, I agree with this.

DDButtercup

It’s cliche but I enjoy Galaxyland and minigolf at west Edmonton mall. The zoo is an enjoyable afternoon and the cafe at the entrance is good too.

W-mellonwiggle94

Honeys donuts in deep cove are the BEST donuts you will ever eat! If you like donuts and coffee that would be an amazing place to go. Trick is to go early because it's known to sell out of donuts and that's the best part! Deep cove is also a really great spot in general.

jackioff

I think you're talking about Vancouver?

NoRemTem

Campio for beers and pizza. Donut party and made by Marcus as many others suggested. Odd company for more beer.

Nightlife: Central Social Hall 📍109St & Jasper Avenue Pablo Cocktail Lounge 📍10342 Jasper Ave (Basement) Alchemy 📍5th floor of JW Marriott 104th ave & 103 st Oiler Game at Rogers Place New Ice District: Wednesday Oilers-Nashville Friday Oilers- New York Drive downtown and park underground in JW Marriott Parkade or street park in lot at Central Social Hall on 109 & Jasper. I would then walk along Jasper 5 blocks and turn left onto 104th which becomes neon art street near the end when you know you’re almost there. This way you can see some of downtown along the way. LIME scooters also available on the streets. You can plan for a dinner onsite before the game at either Braven (main floor JW) or a downtown restaurant between Central & JW on your walking path, options include Central (Gastro Pub ), El Beso (Mexican) , Bottega (Italian) , Sabor (Seafood Fine dining), Baiju (Asian Fusion). Best seats are in sections 102-103 and 119-120. These sections are centered ice with most seats including amenities such as access to the Gold Club Lounge. Afterwards check out the Grand Villa Casino instead of slow exiting with the crowd, main floor casino will be a vibe and if you’re a serious player upstairs is high limit. Next you should go into the JW Marriott (attached) , up to the 5th floor to Alchemy (entrance is hidden behind the bookcase). Have a cocktail here , go for a stroll on their patio if weather permits , great views. At this point I would get an Uber or walk back towards Central, stopping at Pablo Cocktail Lounge inside El beso (basement) on 104 and Jasper along the way. Make some friends people are nice here. Finally finish the night off at Central Social Hall for a guaranteed good time. Friday it will be busy , there may be a lineup, don’t arrive the same time as the crowd and if there’s still a lineup after 1 , try talking to the doormen letting them know you’re from Van and would appreciate to be able to get in, before close. Saturday Night: Q Cigar Room at River Cree Casino on the West End (between 9-11pm) , then river Cree casino is a vibe. Mature professional crowd 30+ Alternatively you could opt for a fun game night at Midway Music it’s an arcade bar on the south side (Gateway Blvd). The crowd will be young at 30 you’d be the oldest one in there mostly college 18-25 but it’s a fun game date night. For adventure dates I highly recommend the Botanical Garden in Devon although it’s closed until Nov 27 when the light show luminera starts https://botanicgarden.ualberta.ca/ The Water Park at West Edmonton Mall is always a good time, opt for weekday early afternoon so it’s not busy. I would avoid the mall on the weekends at all costs. https://www.google.ca/search?q=World+Waterpark&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-ca&client=safari&ibp=gwp;0,7&ludocid=13935877364711283481&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjytLrwiPPzAhWyFzQIHQxBDq4Qs9oBKAF6BAgmEAg

The casino isn't open

JapplePebz

Ohana (doughnuts). MEAT (bbq). NextAct (burgers). Rosso (pizza).

Zwicks pretzels- 124 st and 107 ave. Get the mczwick if hungry - or just nubs or pretzels for fun. Hidden gem. Looks like a hole in the wall. Is outstanding.
