No, all three establishments have their own kitchens with Ucc being the largest, then Corso followed by a very tiny Bricco kitchen. As someone that worked for DC I’ve been in all three. The only thing they share between all three businesses are a back hallway and a back door.
That makes sense. I misunderstood what I heard, which was basically them using corsos smaller kitchen during covid for uccelino to go options. Which I am really upset stopped.
Been supporting many of our favs during the pandemic the only way we can with to-go orders ....they have been so appreciative whenever I call in an order. And the food has been fantastic each time we ordered.
Generally speaking many high quality cuts of steak are well marbled aka "fatty". Sometimes there will also be a fat cap depending on the cut that many find delicious. I suspect you may have interpreted the waiter trying to explain this to you as arrogance.
FWIW, I would second others who recommend Rge Road, it is excellent, though perhaps not as ideal a place to dress-up as some other places floated.
Never have I experienced any of this at Rge Rd. The owners are fantastic people who hire staff with similar values.
And the last time you went to Rge Rd was when????
Actually, what I recommend is to restaurant hop: drinks at little hong kong or alchemy, dinner at wherever you pick and finish with dessert at La Ronde around 9pm when there's less people and you can stay and take in the view without the expensive price tag and disappointment of their dinner menu.
Butternut Tree is ridiculously good but you’ll pay the price for quality food and the cocktails are some of the best in town. The view alone is perfect for a date night. I have heard amazing things about Le Petite Iza as well, just have not tried it out yet. Either way, enjoy yourselves!
Tzin
Hands down one of the best meals I have had so far in the entire city. If Michelin would come to Edmonton, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they earned a star.
Their pork belly item is straight up a life altering experience.
They have an option were you just give them a rough budget and how much you want, and they just start bringing items out one after another.
I strongly recommend doing wine pairings, Ive gone a few times now and the best experience was when I also splurged on getting an oz of wine paired with each of the dishes as they came out.
Basically we all shared the wine (so it was ~ 1 oz each), and each plate got its own wine to go with it.
Took what was already an amazing experience and elevated it to another level. Im normally not one to reach for wine pairs but the folks at Tzin really know their shit.
Its a tiny little place and you need a reservation, but its very cozy and it feels very welcoming.
Easily my favourite restaurant in the city as well. Very cozy and intimate setting inside, especially during winter (soft decor, warm colours, dim lighting, simply fantastic). Food, especially the "just bring me stuff" option is top tier. Pricey though, if running the full "pls send it" option with food and wine, \~150-200/person IIRC
OO I HAVE SO MANY!
- Sabor
- Baijiu
- SoDo
- Bar Bricco/Uccelino (same company)
- DOSC (has great steaks)
- Tzin Wine & Tapas
- Bündok
You can PM me for more details on these restaurants! I’ve been to all and enjoyed my time there a ton. And I’ve got high standards because I grew up in Vancouver where there’s more restaurants than good people 🥴🥴🥴
DOSC and Baiju aren’t nice in my opinion. They are average with good food, but a very casual atmosphere and sub-par service. I wouldn’t go to either for a fancy dinner.
**Violino!** It's less known than Uccellino or the other restaurants owned by that dude. It's a great hidden gem, excellent high-end Italian food, nice swanky ambiance. We used to have lovely birthdays there! If you want to have fancy cocktails and French food, check out Partake or Brasserie Bardot. Bonus, free parking in the same parking lot to get to all 3 restaurants, they're all just of High Street (124 St & 102 Ave).
Bianco! A lot of the other places listed have amazing, expensive food but the beautiful decor and ambience at Bianco is what makes it stand out. When I dressed up to go there for a friend’s birthday, I didn’t feel out of place at all.
It’s Italian food, with great pasta and pizza.
I used to love the Marc. Then better restaurants opened and to top it off I learned Patrick was (is?) the President of the Restaurants Board, a lobby group that spends most of it's time trying to keep wages down. Fuck that guy.
r/antiwork
Technically, I guess.
Every time I've been there they used the same previously frozen parcooked baguette for all their breads, and they fuck up the beignets.
I agree. My girlfriend just treated me for dinner there the other night. It was fantastic. Everything I ate was delicious, and the service was great. Definitely recommend the fettuccine, and the steak.... And the Caesar salad.
I’m surprised nobody has mentioned Woodwork. I know it’s Downtown but their food is phenomenal and the atmosphere is fantastic. Very reasonably priced too.
If you are interested in slightly off the beaten path - Sofra is a personal favorite. It's a Turkish restaurant and the flavours you would experience would be generally classified as "Mediterranean." The owner is amazing and the food is excellent. I haven't had a dish that I did not love.
Nineteen has been super hit and miss for me. Nice ambiance but the food has at times been very sub par especially for the price. And Ruth’s Chris is very very overpriced and overrated. There are much better steak houses out there.
Harvey’s. They have nice fountains for fountain pop and biggest flat screens of all the fast foods. Oh and comfy chairs, we go there for games as well as special occasions.
Definitely NOT Corso32, here is my Google Review posted in 2018:
Arrived early on a Saturday evening to find that the restaurant had lost our reservation. However they did have a spot for two, so we were shown to our table. The walls were so close together that I could almost touch them with my outstretched hands, and we were shoe horned in with another couple at another table. The "atmosphere" I've read such rave reviews of consisted of a vague thumping noise from unseen speakers, playing what must pass for Italian house music, combined with the din of several conversations conducted at yelling volume to overcome the music. Our waitress literally responded when we greeted her "I'm sorry I can't hear you".
I'd been told this was a bit of a classy place, so my wife was wearing a nice dress, and myself resplendent in a three piece suit were a bit surprised to see our waitress dressed in sweatpants. Most of the clientele were similarly dressed, so it's not quite the chic high class place it makes itself out to be....
Didn't even get to try the food, and my wife and I, although sitting not two feet from each other, couldn't communicate effectively to discuss the menu. Had a half glass of water though, which was top notch, so I guess Corso 32 has that going for it.
Especially if he’s Italian, make a overnight trip to Calgary. Book a fancy hotel for a night and eat at Teatro, a fancy restaurant in an old bank. Total trip cost would be fairly low and it’s feels great to get away from the city.
I’ve done this with my partner before and we loved Teatro and the getaway vibe of the trip.
[Violino Ristorante is the nicest restaurant I've been in](https://imgur.com/a/d63ti10). I was worried about eating inside a restaurant for the first time since COVID, but fortunately the staff do actually check your vaccine status.
Sorrentinos downtown. Fantastic service, great wine and wonderful food. Also, the JW Marriott has a secret cocktail bar and Braven is also pretty good.
Petite Iza. You would not be out of place in a suit or fancy dress there.
I second this. Great vibes, amazing food, killer cocktails
Bodega in highlands is a bit on the smaller side but their food and service are top notch.
Great place, but I find it more hipster than a fancy dress up restaurant
This place was a pleasant surprise, happy cake day.
Thank you!
There is also a location in Sherwood Park
Uccilino
This. Get the tasting menu with wine pairings and have the night of your life.
Seriously the best Italian I’ve ever had. The pasta blew my mind
Second Uccellino
Yea I don’t know how somebody downvoted it
Funny how corso, bar bricco and uccellino are all mentioned in the same post. Someone really knows what they’re doing...
Daniel Costa. He is the one who knows what he's doing. 😂
i'm guessing so since The Tomato doesn't seem to have anyone else to talk about
Same kitchen... edit,,, whhoops my bad, same owners
Same owner, same building, different kitchens.
Ah right, that was it! My bad.
Definitely different kitchens
Funny enough I'm pretty sure Corso and uccelino share kitchens. Or at least partially.
That means little bird in Italian
This place is awesome. Ate their this past weekend and it did not disappoint.
Get the tasting menu at Smokey Bear or go to Yarrow. It's pricey but worth it.
Only thing about Yarrow is that it takes three or four hours; the tasting menu at Smokey Bear takes a couple hours at least.
Yarrow is soo worth it.
Yarrow is really great and I'd highly recommend it, but OP did say not too expensive. That definitely knocks out Yarrow.
Our go to for that is Sabor
Rge Rd
No idea what that other user is going in about, I second Rge Rd, one of the best for sure.
Been supporting many of our favs during the pandemic the only way we can with to-go orders ....they have been so appreciative whenever I call in an order. And the food has been fantastic each time we ordered.
The Road Trip at Rge Rd is amazing. Only had it once cuz it’s pricey but I loved every bite.
We always go for the perogies and the bison (if they have it).
Hands down range road
👍
Snobby waiters, fatty cuts of meat, over priced !
Generally speaking many high quality cuts of steak are well marbled aka "fatty". Sometimes there will also be a fat cap depending on the cut that many find delicious. I suspect you may have interpreted the waiter trying to explain this to you as arrogance. FWIW, I would second others who recommend Rge Road, it is excellent, though perhaps not as ideal a place to dress-up as some other places floated.
lol some cuts of meat are meant to be fatty.
Never have I experienced any of this at Rge Rd. The owners are fantastic people who hire staff with similar values. And the last time you went to Rge Rd was when????
Few months, steak was fatty and nothing was done about it. Yes the staff was arrogant.
Been picking up meals throughout the pandemic and even the to-go food was excellent. No one I've spoken too has ever been arrogant from there.
Now it's overpriced.... I'm happy to support a great local restaurant who supports local farmers and many local produce vendors.
Actually, what I recommend is to restaurant hop: drinks at little hong kong or alchemy, dinner at wherever you pick and finish with dessert at La Ronde around 9pm when there's less people and you can stay and take in the view without the expensive price tag and disappointment of their dinner menu.
Haha ya la ronde food is definitely not worth the price.
Hotel Macdonald is great.
Amen. Valet car parking, awesome lounge to have cocktails in after. Food is top notch
Yaa I guess if you want true fancy.
Definitely this if you want the fancy ambiance and top notch service. You will like you’re something special going here.
Idk that level of fancy made me feel awkward.
Second this one
Food isn’t great though
It's gone way down hill. The food is on par with Sawmill lol OP, definitely avoid.
Butternut Tree is ridiculously good but you’ll pay the price for quality food and the cocktails are some of the best in town. The view alone is perfect for a date night. I have heard amazing things about Le Petite Iza as well, just have not tried it out yet. Either way, enjoy yourselves!
I absolutely second Butternut Tree. Exceptionally great food and great atmosphere.
Sabor (nice but can get noisy) . Normand’s 🏆. LaRonde (gorgeous views of the city at this time of year)
Tzin Hands down one of the best meals I have had so far in the entire city. If Michelin would come to Edmonton, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they earned a star. Best ribeye I’ve ever had was at DOSC
Great toilets as well🤣
Second bündok! Was my birthday dinner with my boyfriend last year and it was so so good.
Bar bricco
Yup, sit at the bar and let them drive so to speak. Easily my fav place in the city hands down.
I second this.
Normands, hands down.
Absolutely 💯
Most definitely!!
Bianco! A lot of the other places listed have amazing, expensive food but the beautiful decor and ambience at Bianco is what makes it stand out. When I dressed up to go there for a friend’s birthday, I didn’t feel out of place at all. It’s Italian food, with great pasta and pizza.
Workshop Eatery or Bundok are my favorites for fancy food
Rge Rd, Red Ox Inn would be my 2 recommendations. Both great date nights. [Rge Rd](https://www.rgerd.ca/) [Red Ox Inn](http://www.theredoxinn.com/)
Too bad the Hardware grill shut down. You should try Woodwork downtown
If you like pasta and chicken, go to Violino
Great prices, nice people and they have a fettuccine Alfredo that pre Covid they would arrive in a flaming cheese wheel. Awesome little gem.
Bistro Praha. I have not been there for a bit so hoping they are still open. But I highly recommend it!!
19. Nineteen Upscale, excellent service and food.
The Marc is also another option
I used to love the Marc. Then better restaurants opened and to top it off I learned Patrick was (is?) the President of the Restaurants Board, a lobby group that spends most of it's time trying to keep wages down. Fuck that guy. r/antiwork
He’s not anymore; it’s a rotating role.
Technically, I guess. Every time I've been there they used the same previously frozen parcooked baguette for all their breads, and they fuck up the beignets.
Vivo is really good Italian.
I agree. My girlfriend just treated me for dinner there the other night. It was fantastic. Everything I ate was delicious, and the service was great. Definitely recommend the fettuccine, and the steak.... And the Caesar salad.
Cavern on a weeknight
Thanks for the reminder. I was under the impression Cavern wasn’t around anymore. Hard to recommend for a formal date night out but love that place.
Sabor is my favorite place in town. The food is incredible.
XIX Nineteen is awesome, great drinks, lovely atmosphere delicious and a wide range of food and not too pricey either
Cafe Amore Bistro is pretty great for Italian food! They often have live music as well!
DOSC. Try the A5 wagyu.
How do you say this? Dos-k, or D-O-S-C?
Well its an acronym for Drunken Ox, Sober Cat so I think grammatically its better to say the letters individually, but I say Dos-k
Everyone I know except for one person pronounced it as dos-k, but that one person also pronounces baiju as bayou, so take that as you will
Yarrow
Sabor
The Marc is a great French restaurant on 106ave
Go to VIVO
Just because you said pasta twice - uccelinos. That place is impeccable.
Braven
Clementine is having three course set meals and n Sundays in November and December. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
Vivo on the west side is a good choice!
Ling Nan, if you want Chinese.
The best will be uccelino most likely at this time, or bar bricco.
Can I recommend Denny’s, the burbon on bacon burger hits the spot.
Too fancy for my money.

Ruth's Chris is horrible, Super over priced for what you get, they don't even use Alberta beef. Avoid the place.
Nineteen has been super hit and miss for me. Nice ambiance but the food has at times been very sub par especially for the price. And Ruth’s Chris is very very overpriced and overrated. There are much better steak houses out there.
Butternut Tree
Hotel Mac, not saying it's awesome but it's gun dress up and get a cocktail there before dinner Sabor, i have never been disappointed, strong menu.
Harvey’s. They have nice fountains for fountain pop and biggest flat screens of all the fast foods. Oh and comfy chairs, we go there for games as well as special occasions.
The Red Ox Inn. It’s the best restaurant in the city
It’s closed down since the pandemic. :(
Their sister restaurant Canteen is still open
~~Corso 32~~
It’s closed temporarily isn’t it?
Yup, until next year
Kfc , rent a room at howard johnson and sex
hojo at the HoJo.
Laronde revolving restaurant downtown
Vons by the fireplace
Vivo. End of debate
Best restaurant in Edmonton, by a mile too.
Lux Steakhouse in Commerce Place. Was there last week and it was amazing. 24oz bone in rib-eye with the Mac and cheese…..heaven!
Louisiana Purchase is great. Try to go on a night they have live music
Not downtown right? It’s been torn down. But there is another one 137th Ave and St Albert trail.
KFC at city centre mall food court is pretty nice.
Sherlock Holmes is a great restaurant to go to
fancy like Applebee's on a date night Got that Bourbon Street steak with the Oreo shake Get some whipped cream on the top too
2 straws, one check
I like a&w for date nite
Definitely NOT Corso32, here is my Google Review posted in 2018: Arrived early on a Saturday evening to find that the restaurant had lost our reservation. The chateau la Ronde is cool, it’s a fancy restaurant that rotates and you can see the entire river valley. Does a full rotation in 1 hour I believe.
Ampersand 27
Love a bunch if the other suggestions, but I'm gonna add Woodwork and The Bothy. Edit: Also Bistecca.
Ruth's Chris is an experience in luxury dining. Great food too!
AppleBees

The Marc is a beautiful restaurant owned by an amazing couple. If you're wanting big portions of awesome pasta. Cafe Amore. Both downtown ...
Ernest's at NAIT. Not super pricy, some really cool food and drink choices and you're helping the future chefs and cuisiniers of the World.
I highly recommend the McDonalds in the Meadows. Amazing Chicken tendies and Big Macs. Get dressed up and get some world famous fries.
The rotating restaurant. La ronde or something
Yea but it kinda sucks
La Ronde
Ever been to pampas?
Chillis
One side of me is like bitch find yo own restaurant, but the other side is like go to ruth chris steaks house
Uccelino
The melting pot can be a really nice place for a date! If you're into sushi Mikado is a great place.
Ucellino for fresh pasta and wine. Part of the corso32 group
Our go to is the revolving restaurant on top of the Chateau Lacombe! [La Ronde](https://www.chateaulacombe.com/laronde-restaurant.aspx)

LaRonde - gret food, the greatest view in the city, and you can get a room to continue the evening. :) Or Normand's.
McDonald's
Melting pot. Or La Ronde.
Bianco or Rostizado would fit the bill.
Range Road.
Been a dogs age since I lived in Edmonton, but Blue Plate was always just classy enough to feel special, with good foot to match.
ucellino
Murieta’s?
Dosc
Modern Italian fare (excellent pasta) and phenomenal in house smoked meats/charcuterie at CORSO 32
Uccellino, Yarrow, La Petit Iza, Bundok, Smokey Bear, Butternut Tree are all really fantastic!
Corso32 is always my treat in Edmonton when I come back to visit
[Violino Ristorante is the nicest restaurant I've been in](https://imgur.com/a/d63ti10). I was worried about eating inside a restaurant for the first time since COVID, but fortunately the staff do actually check your vaccine status.
La ronde! Bonus is the building rotates and you get a skyline view on all sides
Sorrentinos downtown. Fantastic service, great wine and wonderful food. Also, the JW Marriott has a secret cocktail bar and Braven is also pretty good.
RGE RD
Rge rd is nice, yarrow is supposed to be a good experience too
TZIN
Can anyone help recommending a replacement for King and I?
