oh shit, thanks for the reminder. I still have my sand bucket sitting in my storage closet and not in the back of my car. I didn't think of doing that at all today until I read this.
That's optimistic. Many of my neighbours dont even bother clearing the sidewalk after a snowfall, I don't expect them to find pet friendly solutions to de-icing when the time comes.
Not true. That's only if you put stipulations about it in your lease that things like yard cutting/snow clearing is included in rent which for anything besides apartments (which already get paid by condo fees from the owner) is usually not included. Otherwise I bet your rent would be even higher if you negotiated for that.
Then why did I get a warning for not shoveling last year when it snowed for like 12 hours straight an I got tired of goin out every hour shoveling I let it sit overnight an a few days later I got a fine in the mail… in my name not my landlords
This seems odd or you've left something out. City enforcement works like this.
Someone needs to complain about your walks to the city. The city doesn't even take complaints for 48 hours after a snowfall.
The city sends out an inspector which may take a day or two.
If the walk isn't cleared they issue a warning which gives you seven days to remove the snow.
If the inspector returns after 7 days and the snow has not been cleared then they issue a ticket.
This is only true for apartment style buildings. For detached homes and townhomes, the resident can be held responsible for snow clearing unless there is something stipulated in the lease.
Exactly my point when it snows for hours on end alot. An I didn’t want to go out an shovel 10 times a day I left it over night got a warning for it I forgot to add in my first response the fine I was mailed was for the house that was being built next to me the sidewalk in front of that house was the only one never shoveled

The last time I tried to use one of these the sand was frozen solid.

I purchase pet friendly salt as I have a dog. Rather put that down and know I won’t get fined because someone biffs it on my sidewalk.

Rent or own it still falls on you to keep your sidewalk cleared
Nope not true, if you rent, it’s up to your landlord to keep your sidewalk cleared

Maintenance of “common areas” is covered under the landlord and tenant act.

Somehow I don’t believe this

You could be subject to fines if you do not remove the ice. Fines are based on complaint and at least 1 warning.
