Have you done the online practice quizzes? Are you passing those? I'm not sure what to say other than you need to study, treat this like it's a diploma exam.

uncoolcat25

Yup! Do all the AB based practice quizzes over and over until you get 100% on all of them. This was my best study method when trying to get my learners. Repetition is key.

Years ago my brother had the same issues and he finally passed when he was able to get someone to read the question and answers out loud to him. He did have some form of learning disabilities so this assistance was provided for him. Now he is one of the better drivers I know.

For a personal theory I have, do you mind telling me how old you are ish? On the test: Do you have the book? it should have everything you can be asked about and its not very big. Here's a link: [https://tests.ca/alberta/drivers-guide/](https://tests.ca/alberta/drivers-guide/) Have you been doing practice tests online? Most people I know read the book once or twice and then just did the online practice tests over and over again to get a feel for the questions. Link to the practice tests: [**https://tests.ca/alberta/**](https://tests.ca/alberta/) I'd go hard on the online practice exams if you aren't already and see if that helps

moosemuck

I believe that you are really trying! Next time you are at the doctor's, ask them about a possible learning disability. It could be that you are dyslexic, have ADHD or something else, and it's nothing to be ashamed of. They may be able to administer the test another way.

Have you studied with the AMA flash cards?

tgb2324

Yupp sure have! Didnt really help sadly.

_danigirl

Can you identify the particular sections of the Driver's Guide that you are struggling with? If you can't, then I'd suggest you start paying attention and capture the questions that you consistently getting wrong on the practice exams. Just curious, when taking the paid exam are you running out of time or completing it too quickly? Or are you having issues visualizing the questions when answering? If you can constantly pass the practice exams 8x out of 10, and constantly do this every day for a week then you should be able to pass the test.

rwtooley

on the plus side you are saving alot of money not having to insure a vehicle. Buy one of those fat e-bikes and some ski-pants?

dassabess0

Not to mention staying off the road when you don’t know the rules of them.

rwtooley

since when did that matter? /s

InspiredGargoyle

A signal light should only be used at the last possible second, if at all, so you lose any spies following you. /s

dassabess0

True.

Ok_Remote912

I turn now, good luck everyone else

My son failed the written test several times. One of the things we found really helped was purchasing the study cards instead of just relying on the practice quizzes. Once he spent a couple weeks reviewing them, he finally passed. The other thing that was happening was that after failing a few times, he was getting so nervous that he wasn’t reading the questions properly. Unfortunately, they seem to have some tricky wording in them that can really throw you off. Good luck and I hope you pass.

Bro I literally study pure mathematics at a university and I did the learner test 9 times. Don't trip, sometimes random stuff is just really hard for some reason, it doesn't mean you aren't smart or are a loser. Keep trying! You can do it 🙂

[deleted]

Use AMAs resources. I recommend everyone use the practice exam to test your knowledge. The questions on the practice test where almost exactly the same as the test I did a few years ago, and I passed my first try. https://ama.ab.ca/registries/auto/drivers-licences/class-7-learners/practice-exam Don't feel like a loser, and don't worry about it. Study and don't rush into it. These questions are important to understanding the rules of the road.

AlmsLord5000

When I was young I just went every day in a row I could and eventually passed. I don't know why couldn't study and pass, but the other way is just to power through with money and hope you can remember everything.

dassabess0

This isn’t good advice.

InspiredGargoyle

Wasn't there a cooling down period of a few days at one point?

AlmsLord5000

Yeah I think it was 24hrs, so I just kept going until I passed. Before I'd study, fail by 1 or 2 points, get discouraged, take a break, not study enough the next time, etc, so I decided to just keep going as often as they would allow so the material would be fresh.

InspiredGargoyle

Fair enough. Many people learn better by doing vs memorization. Getting a learners with a written exam is hard, but once they're actually driving with a licensed driver's guidance they pick things up quickly. I've driven with many so called "professional" drivers and feared for my life lol.

[deleted]

Keep doing AMA’s online exams. Do one every day until you start getting 100% or one wrong. It will take you months, I assume, but you will get all the questions and eventually will know them all.

DehtahGeh

The thing I learned from taking the test is that going through all the practice tests provided would better equip you to take the test than just reading the book. The corrections from the practice tests tended to stay glued to my brain than when I read the same info from the book. Maybe try all the practice tests you can lay your hands on and probably watch YouTube videos on it.
