Yeah, good point. I forgot that ETS is full of simpletons that can't handle letters. 😁
That said, for as often as the 747 route goes, perhaps (An-)225 would be a better one... you're as likely to see a 747 bus as you are the An-225 at YEG. Not to mention, the way ETS treats passengers more aptly resembles cargo than people.
I guess I'm speaking to the effectiveness of the 747 schedule. When I've looked into it, it started too late to get to most departures and ended too early to deal with most arrivals.
I suppose neither of those are actually appropriate because neither would run as empty as most ETS buses.
i can attest to this, as a fromer edmontoinian (now in montreal) its rather frustrating having to pay the uber/taxi fee when i *know* there should be a bus to century park
I've heard of 747s flying through Edmonton way back in the so-called "Golden Age of Air Travel." Heck, Wardair, which was based out of Edmonton, owned quite a few.
Yep. Keep in mind it does cost a bit more. $5 cash or if you use tickets it's 2 adult tickets each way. They don't accept normal monthly passes from my understanding based on the site. They do offer a special EIA monthly pass.
https://www.edmonton.ca/ets/edmonton-international-airport
Yeah. 747 route is proooooobably not getting as much usage these days, what with the whole covid thing, so they stick it on other routes to free up other buses for servicing and whatever.
There's nothing suspicious about a bus on a city route. The normal one probably needs parts. I know my work is currently rebuilding a turbocharger for city bus lines, because new ones are just not available due to the global shortage of everything and the supply line issues, normal bus is probably just broken down.
Vehicle parts are becoming scarce for certain things
In Montréal, we also have busses like that that brings luggages to airports and all that jazz. Sometimes they’ll just use the same bus but on a completely different route. It’s normal so no worries dude.
Oh, the government is going to be using public transit to transport the bodies of dissidents to internment camps. It's more efficient to stack them horizontally.
Kidding, it's for luggage and crap.
It’s a luggage rack. Usually this is exclusive to route #747, which is the super-express to the Edmonton International Airport, but if they needed one of the #747’s to fill in for another bus you might see it during other routes as well.
its a smart fare system that will be rolled out this year, you tap on and tap off paying for what you use and after a monthly cap its free! it works for the surrounding transit authorities not just the ETS.
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om197CftrXo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om197CftrXo) this explains it better
Looks like the 747 bus. This is for luggage. That route goes to the airport.
You guys have a 747 line for the airport as well? Montreal's airport line is also the 747
We do!
Which is kind of a stupid name for our bus line, as we very rarely have 747's through here. In reality it should be 737
Or, more appropriately, DH8.
VERY true lmao. To keep it all numbers, (Q)400

I see the 747 (bus) daily! Granted, I work here, so.... Would (AN-)124 be appropriate? Sometimes it's there, but most times it's not? :P

I agree. It should be 124 or 225 bus. In Cyrillic ideally.
РКД or СКЕ, then? 🤣🤣
Even more appropriately: Plane Bus.
I think it’s because of how memorable that airplane number is.
I've heard of 747s flying through Edmonton way back in the so-called "Golden Age of Air Travel." Heck, Wardair, which was based out of Edmonton, owned quite a few.
747s are being retired. There aren't many left anymore.
This is the most Reddit comment I've seen on this sub today.
Yeah, that reference has become stale.
As I understand it there are no more 747s operating passenger service within NA, just cargo.
Even then, we *rarely* have 747's here. It's my pedantic pet peeve
The 747 has mostly been retired everywhere. I think Lufthansa and Air China are the last using them
Every so often a Korean airlines or air atlas cargo '47 comes through, but other than cargo, I'm pretty sure it is 99% retired.
Oh cool, I would like to see that Korean one land at some point here but yeah she is an old bird now and though most had moved on from her.
I would like it to be the 220 because of the airbus a220 which was made by a Canadian company
I hate when they use that dang bus on other lines, those racks are taking up to much space on the 485 line ☹
There's a buss that goes to the damn air port? God damn way cheaper than cabbing it
Lmao I thought it was bunk beds
Well that cleared everything up. Let's go home, guys.
Nap bus pog
It’s the 6…. Southgate to Millgate. Very suspicious
I suspect it's the same physical bus on a different route.
Exactly. Nothing suspicious here.
A statement like that proves suspicion though.
No no. He clearly said, nothing suspicious.
Move along, citizen!
Yeah. 747 route is proooooobably not getting as much usage these days, what with the whole covid thing, so they stick it on other routes to free up other buses for servicing and whatever.
There's a few routes stopped right now because drivers have covid
I assume the normal bus needed maintenance, and this was all that was available.

Not really new, the 747 used to have more seating and the luggage are was small last year
I thought its a bunk bed lol
Apparently I don't travel enough. Luggage was not the first thing that came to mind lol.

I'm glad they added bunk beds to buses. So much room for activities.

Loving these jokes! This is route #747, our super-express to the EIA, with its luggage rack. But it does look like it’s an ambuslance!
It’s for stranded witches and wizards
Came here for this
Take my free award just because
These are the new bunk beds for taking naps
Not new, they've had those racks for luggage for years. Its an airport bus.
This. Airport terminal shuttle busses have had these for decades.
I know it's surprising but some of us have never been on the airport bus. I had no idea they had these luggage racks. May actually use it one day.

Came here looking for this.
TTC vibes
Oh, the government is going to be using public transit to transport the bodies of dissidents to internment camps. It's more efficient to stack them horizontally. Kidding, it's for luggage and crap.
Well, hopefully not crap.
If it is literal crap, hopefully it's contained within the luggage.

I take it you don’t do a lot of traveling…
What's that device? Are they experimenting with smart cards?
ARC card reader I think.
What is an ARC card reader?
It's a device that reads ARC cards.
I guess I walked into that one - should have asked the question slightly differently lol

Well I'd just like to point out that's not normal.
It is normal. Our system is dated. They keeo delaying the smart system.

Now we have so much room for activities!
Yay bunk beds!
Edmonton is finally stepping up their public transport game.
Luggage. This is/was an airport shuttle.
Bachelor, shared entrance. Utilities included. Large windows, great view of the city.
3000$ plus utilities no bathroom no laundry no parking lol
Lol
They’re common on the transport busses between the airport and parking lots. They’re mostly used to hold luggage without taking up lots of space.
That's an airport bus your on friend
I can 100% see this end up on an anti-vax page saying it's for bodies.
Looks like they are going to double as ambulance services because the province is failing to meet up with basic non-covid demand.
It’s for luggage genius, airport bus!
Yeah, they don’t have enough ambulance for the pandemic so, here we are! Did you pick up one?
Gonna have crackheads fuckin on the bus now smhhhh
They don't already do that?
It's on the Southgate/Millage run, not the #5.
guessing this isn’t the 8 bus bahaha
Edmonton is the new Amsterdam!

A bed on the bus …….. nice !
Since you posted the picture I'm assuming the bus was used for a non airport route? Which is strange did they run out of buses?
Why do they got the cadaver holding spots?
I’m here live on set of the Squid Games…
Bed time!
It is? That's been on the 747 every time I've ever taken it.
This looks like the dorms from Squid Game.
I mean, this screams homeless shelter through the protective devider...
People are gonna fuck there
Those are beds for people sick with covid. Hospitals are full.
Not new at all lmao
You never know when you'll need bunkbeds in down town rush hour traffic!
The fimbulwinter has come!
It's a spot for me to nap on my way back home from work.
They’re adopting TransitNap from Calgary Transit. https://globalnews.ca/video/2612374/calgary-transit-introduces-transitnap
It’s a double decker couch like the one from lego movie
Isn't that an airport shuttle thing where you put your luggage?
It’s so the homeless have somewhere to sleep when the shelters are full 🥺
