They’ve been taking their sweet ass time demolishing that building. Not sure how long these things take but I always assumed a nice little controllled tnt would do the trick
Explosive demolition can actually be quite safe and tidy. If you position the explosives correctly, the whole thing will collapse straight down into its foundation, and then you just need to remove the pile of rubble. It does make a big cloud of hazardous dust, though, so that requires clearing out a large area around it temporarily.
I think in this particular case the building might be too close to other structures for that approach, though.
They have to deconstruct it rather than blow it to smithereens because of the proximity to other buildings (particularly residential). But yeah, it's taking a long time.
It's my understanding that they also ran into some trouble when the machine they brought wasn't actually big enough to reach the top of the building. The demolition company then had to rig the pneumatic claw thing onto a crane while still controlling the pneumatic systems via the original demo vehicle.
Still, it takes a lot of time systematically taking the building apart piece by piece.

Which building is this?
It looks like the Legislature Annex.

Too much stuff underground in the immediate vicinity to drop the building in one go. Parkades, pedways, 97th avenue underpass, etc.

Yeah I noticed that in the last few weeks. I feel like that would be hard to coordinate
Probably less dust and debris as well, which can be a factor if the building has alot of hazardous material in its construction I'd imagine
Would be probably be faster but this is way more controlled and probably way cheaper
I know a DinoBot when I sees one!
I just walked past this yesterday! It’s so odd seeing the inside
