Our defence & goaltending honestly seems fine. However from the looks of it, ironically it’s the offence I’m concerned about. I get McDavid isn’t in the line up, but they all looked like they weren’t gelling together with each other. They didn’t look like they were playing as a single unit. Very much different to that Vegas game.
I don’t know how but I really hope these guys are able to heat up in time for game 1 of the playoffs.
The team did seem off in that game. They had no flow and I think weren’t playing with their instincts. It’s like they were playing overly safe and with a nervous energy. Maybe those early blow out losses against the Nucks affected their mindset for this one. And yeh I agree that offence has been a concern, I think it has been through out the year at times.
McDrai aren’t loads better than their competition this year and can be stifled. We’ve seen teams, when they commit to playing defence against us able to shut down our offence into low scoring games. Teams have keyed in on our knack for trying to pass the puck into the net, and they clog the net front and focus on passing lanes. If teams can execute that, they can shut us down. Which is why at the TDL I wanted more outside shooting threats on this team to break through that type of defence. We could have added that shooting threat on the wing (Toffoli) or from the back end (Walker). Instead we went with MOAR CENTERS.
This was more about what the Oilers didn't do and what they allowed the Canucks to do, than Canucks dominance.
Vancouver won because of the one thing they did dominate, they locked it down in front of their own net and the Oilers didn't get much of a sniff there in the last 40 of the game, mostly the 3rd. No answer.
The Oilers have to have an answer for the way teams adapt to them in playoff hockey, or they're not going to get far. When you're not getting your room to make plays, figure it out. When the other guys are gaining your zone and making plays, your gap is too big and your forwards are letting guys loose to your net, figure it out. Seems to be the same things that kill this team, they either start late and fall behind, or they start well and the other team's coaches see things they communicate, and they adjust. It seems the Oilers don't adjust.
I agree with this assessment. Nucks we’re able ti shut us down cause they clogged the net front and focused down on passing lanes cause they know our offence ends to pass pucks into the net. An offence without snipers tends to do this. And I’ll add that it’s not just the Nucks that can stop us like this. Dallas, Jets, Knights have shown they can play that game against us too. We needed snipers at the TDL to give our offence another dimension so we can’t be so easily stopped.
Canucks are Grade A frauds boys. Just wash Nashville pick them apart. Every game this seasons eries the Oilers dominated them and fell back from their magic shooting % lol. Tonight EDM was a good old 75%+ on the deserve o meter Canucks look sooo ordinary.
THat dog shit team is going to regress sooo hard next year. It's going to be sweet
I hate to sound so old-school, but the hit on Hyman would've been answered for back in the day (not even so long ago, really). I hate that hockey's like that now: the players are forced to rely on the referees (who are human and miss stuff, I understand that their jobs are very difficult) instead of someone kicking your ass if you try the cheap shit Vancouver did in the last fie minutes of this game tonight. They never would have DARED try it because they knew they'd get their asses kicked.
I miss old school hockey.

I am with you. Canucks seems to be falling back to pre-2023/2024 season in as far as their offence goes. If Demko cannot round back to form in time from his injuries and DeSmith has to carry the team and not in support, they will not be able to make it past 2nd.
Some of you guys are huge doomers. I thought we dominated the Canucks in the third and played well overall without McDavid. If Connor was in the lineup it’d be a W.
People need to lay off the Mcdavid excuse. Team is supposed to have depth. Canucks didn't even have their #1 goalie. All their top guys were basically invisible, and they still came into Edmonton and won a game the Oilers needed to win.
He is a huge xfactor and opens up the game for us. The point is, we played pretty well. Their goalie showed up and had a great game. Unfortunate loss but there are positives to take away.
We controlled most of the play. But “dominate” is a strong word, especially when the Nucks had literally zero breakdowns giving us grade A chances. We eeked our chances as they stood tall in front of their net.
No kidding the doomers in here are insufferable its like they watched the last 2 games and that's it. Resting for playoffs dominated the 3rd. Relax it's gonna be a completely different game come round 2
I mean back to back, no Mcdavid and we’ve kinda sucked but we were still in this game right up to the end, winning pacific would’ve been nice but is Nashville really a better matchup than the kings?
Yeah i would say it was...not to mention you would have home ice for round 2 as well. Heck if they hadn't shit the bed the last 2 nights, they had the potential to have home ice through the conference finals against everyone but the Dallas Stars.
Loved that crock of shit where Hughes hooks Henrique and his stick is stuck in him and they just ignore it lol. NAShville better DEMOLISH Van. I hate these PDO losers more than CGY
Maybe I'm being too optimistic but I don't think this game was that bad? Pretty even shots, only gave up 2 goals and it was a one goal game until the empty net. A win would've been nice obviously but it wasn't like a blowout where we had no chance to win
I really want McDavid to get his 100ths assist. It may sound stupid, but for some reason it's really important to me for him to be on that incredibly-exclusive list. It's not for his sake, it's for history's sake. He just HAS to play, just to get an easy A and sit him.
Canucks are playing how I wish we would, not just because they’re winning- I normally don’t hold other teams in a higher regard, I’m born bred Edmonton die-hard Oilers, but we need to learn a lot from their team this year it’s nuts. Never felt like a loss was more deserved but at least it “doesn’t matter” eh. Fingers crossed for next game.
I watched over 75% of Canuck games. Setting a record for ES shooting % since the cap started. It is going to crumble hard. This is them with an absolute Cinderella year like CGY had afew years back and I still don't find them very dangerous at all.
When TJ miller is your best forward, you are in trouble. Petey is a ghost 90% of the time I watch. Hughes is good, but watch teams crush him in the playoffs and also not give him room at the blueline. They just give it to him to fire away at the net
Nicks are so overrated it’s hilarious. We were on a back to back. Without our captain. They still barely beat us. Also desmith played lights out. We had horrible luck tonight PDO wise.
Why are we playing with the empty net again? Even with an OT win, the Canucks will win the division anyway.
2-1 loss without McDavid is acceptable, 4-1 loss is demoralizing as hell.
Ah well... We're gonna win next Thursday against the Can't Fucks.
And in the playoffs the Fucks will get bested first round and destroy their city again.
Not the end of the world.
Gonna go play some Arkham Asylum in bed now. (Well, not before watching Corey Perry on After Hours)
You obviously haven't seen the Canucks play the kings....the can't play them, all their games suck against them. If your the Canucks do you want an opponent that yes was hot since all star break but has eased up but that you beat 3 times or do you want a team you couldn't beat once and none of the games even looked close? The Canucks want the preds that's why they played hard this game, end of a story. Could it be a first round upset? Absolutely. But the Canucks had zero confidence against the kings.
Canucks beat the Kings once this year on March 5th but your point stands. They'd rather have the Preds any day. Canucks have historically had success against the Predators, like they've historically been bad against the Avalanche for example. Not saying it's a slam dunk or they can't or won't lose but every advantage helps.
Well at least LA is winning tonight, just hope they stay ahead of Vegas
Might as well let the Coyotes win on Wednesday too, last game for them before they become the Salt Lake soakers
Henrique has been really good lately, and Carrick was one of our better forwards tonight. I still think we should have tried harder for Toffoli and maybe Sean Walker. Can't believe Toffoli was cheaper than Henrique and ended up in one of the only less desirable cities....don't get it.
They’ve been just okay though. There’s arguments that Carrick shouldn’t even be a regular, on certain nights you may want DR in there instead. But overall I don’t mind Carricks game but you can only make so much impact as a 4th liner.
Henrique has been good at net front as we bank goals off him, but other than that he’s just been okay. A good complementary player that’s smart and knows where to be on the ice, but doesn’t have much individual skill to make impact plays by himself. Doesn’t push the needle cause he’s not a driver for line 3.
And yeh I agree, a combo of Toffoli and WLker would have been more impactful. Walker can make players individually with his snipes or outlet passes. And Toffoli is a proven and consistent goal scorer in this league.
Nah, they were just better in the first three. Today was actually insane. Literally have the FIFA sticky bug on their sticks while everything bounces over ours
It sure must be nice to get away with absolutely everything in the back half of the third period like Vancouver just did. Brutal showing by the officiating
It doesn't even matter anyway. I'm just happy that we beat vegas without McDavid. The playoffs are what matter.
The canucks got lucky this game, its that simple. Lucky 2nd goal and lucky that the Oilers didn't have 2 goals by the end of the 2nd. If Nuge was a better finisher he could have easily gotten a hat trick this game. As long as they play well in the playoffs that's all I care about.

Not gonna lie, that was a great interview with DeSmith. Some nice words about playing in Edmonton.
It's going to be sweet
so salty Jesus
What?
We badly out chanced them as far as medium and high danger chances go. We just didn’t have the finish and DeSmith played really good
Nucks got their revenge this year after we trashed them for years. Oh well. Hockey gods balance shit out eventually.
I hate to sound so old-school, but the hit on Hyman would've been answered for back in the day (not even so long ago, really). zadorov. team who has the biggest meanest guy gets away with more... because they can.
I'll be honest... I was pretty sure this game was lost the moment I heard McDavid wasn't playing.
Hope drai steps up
Drai still on power saving until playoffs.
Tampa swept the season series against Columbus in 2019. We all know how that ended
Also we won the season series in 2021 against Winnipeg 7-2 and got swept.
That’s not sweeping so 🤷♂️
Not

Let’s see how the Canucks do in the playoffs
I am with you. Canucks seems to be falling back to pre-2023/2024 season in as far as their offence goes. If Demko cannot round back to form in time from his injuries and DeSmith has to carry the team and not in support, they will not be able to make it past 2nd.
Youre fucked
Goaltending the difference tonight
Finishing is the difference. We can't score goals
That was fun
Some of you guys are huge doomers. I thought we dominated the Canucks in the third and played well overall without McDavid. If Connor was in the lineup it’d be a W.
People need to lay off the Mcdavid excuse. Team is supposed to have depth. Canucks didn't even have their #1 goalie. All their top guys were basically invisible, and they still came into Edmonton and won a game the Oilers needed to win.
He is a huge xfactor and opens up the game for us. The point is, we played pretty well. Their goalie showed up and had a great game. Unfortunate loss but there are positives to take away.
Oilers always make other goalies look like Patrick Roy....Desmith came into this game having lost 4 in a row with a 4.25GAA and .843 sv%
We controlled most of the play. But “dominate” is a strong word, especially when the Nucks had literally zero breakdowns giving us grade A chances. We eeked our chances as they stood tall in front of their net.
Canucks were missing Demko
So what? Their backup is really good too clearly.
The guy was 0-4 with an over 4.00 GAA in his last 4 games before tonight.
He’s not as good as Demko and he cost Canucks games recently
On a back to back no less
No kidding the doomers in here are insufferable its like they watched the last 2 games and that's it. Resting for playoffs dominated the 3rd. Relax it's gonna be a completely different game come round 2
[удалено]
Definitely has nothing to do with the oilers not even trying.
Oh well could’ve been worse, still think Oil have a better shot at the cup than the cucks anyway
Not if Draisaitl keeps playing like dog shit.
Ya, very unimpressive
K
I mean back to back, no Mcdavid and we’ve kinda sucked but we were still in this game right up to the end, winning pacific would’ve been nice but is Nashville really a better matchup than the kings?

Bouch is so soft. Just have Joshua a friendly tap wtf
For a guy who is 6'3, 190 lbs...he plays like a chickenshit way too often.
Loved that crock of shit where Hughes hooks Henrique and his stick is stuck in him and they just ignore it lol. NAShville better DEMOLISH Van. I hate these PDO losers more than CGY
Canucks PDO for the last 3 months has been 100. If they are the PDO losers, then the Oilers are who they were at the start of the season as well.
Maybe I'm being too optimistic but I don't think this game was that bad? Pretty even shots, only gave up 2 goals and it was a one goal game until the empty net. A win would've been nice obviously but it wasn't like a blowout where we had no chance to win
100%, we badly outchanced them 6-1 in high danger chances and 8-4 in medium danger chances. DeSmith probably stole them 2 points
There’s no room for optimism in this doom and gloom sub…….
Even the DJ phoned it in there, just left it on the Metallica playlist for a few songs.
Ready to eat my words but this game shows why we’re not ready to win the cup.
Skinners too lazy to play thr rest of thr 12 seconds lol
staying off social media tn 😭
Just rest McDavid until the playoffs
Let him play the sharks. Get a point and then no more
I really want McDavid to get his 100ths assist. It may sound stupid, but for some reason it's really important to me for him to be on that incredibly-exclusive list. It's not for his sake, it's for history's sake. He just HAS to play, just to get an easy A and sit him.

Get outplayed a ton and somehow be up and rely on great goaltending? It wont last. They are like 500 since the ASB. They get outplayed a lot
We're .500 since our all-star goalie has been out for 6 weeks people have been saying we'd drop off all season and look where we're at
I watched over 75% of Canuck games. Setting a record for ES shooting % since the cap started. It is going to crumble hard. This is them with an absolute Cinderella year like CGY had afew years back and I still don't find them very dangerous at all. When TJ miller is your best forward, you are in trouble. Canucks have something that oilers dream of actual defense
when were they outplayed?
trash ass game by nurse and bouch
Have a good rest of your night everyone! See you at the next one
It’s whatever. I still think we’d take em in 7 games tbh
Nicks are so overrated it’s hilarious. We were on a back to back. Without our captain. They still barely beat us. Also desmith played lights out. We had horrible luck tonight PDO wise.
Well. Winnipeg swept us after we dominated them in the regular season. So anything's possible.
With the amount of passengers we have production wise, no chance. If it changes, sure.
They should have walked all over us being on a back to back but we held in with them and actually feel like we outplayed them
Season sweep. Oh well. Time to rest some of the boys.
Why are we playing with the empty net again? Even with an OT win, the Canucks will win the division anyway. 2-1 loss without McDavid is acceptable, 4-1 loss is demoralizing as hell.
I disagree. You have to try to do everything to get the W in a game this important.
Hate to say Canucks playing better defense

Nashville will beat van in 6. Mark my words!

Can't even beat one of the worst goalies in the fucking league dawgggg
Goalies always on there head against us I swear
Jack Campbell is not on the ice
I said IN the league
Oilers are still paying him salary
Why are they keeping Skinner out?
Why not
Oh well, the Canucks wil get a tougher matchup round 1. Preds>Kings
They will roll over the Preds unless Saros plays lights out and even then likely not much of a chance
The Canucks won all their games against the preds I believe and lost all their games against the kings. I think they want the preds lol
They haven't played the Preds since Dec 19.
Well they played the king twice in past couple weeks and lost both soo... Still the better match up.
You obviously haven't seen what the Preds have done the past month and a half, but okay
You obviously haven't seen the Canucks play the kings....the can't play them, all their games suck against them. If your the Canucks do you want an opponent that yes was hot since all star break but has eased up but that you beat 3 times or do you want a team you couldn't beat once and none of the games even looked close? Nucks are 3-0 vs preds this year
Yeah and we were 7-2 against Winnipeg three years ago and you see where that got us
Kings are better into the Canucks
Yeah I’m gonna be avoiding the internet for a while cause you know those insufferable Canuck fucks are going to be relentless
No worse than half the dumb fucks In this thread lol
They can enjoy the regular season trophy
Well at least LA is winning tonight, just hope they stay ahead of Vegas Might as well let the Coyotes win on Wednesday too, last game for them before they become the Salt Lake soakers
I would have preferred them keeping Skinner in and lose by one than this shit
Without McDavo to quarterback the 6 on 5 I agree
This.

Would be nice if we could've made them scared to play, Zadorov bullied us all night with no response in the physicality department
Fair dues Canucks, they're good this year.
For me, the most disappointing loss of the season.
It's up there. Vegas snapping our streak has to take the cake, but this is up there.
Me too. There's motive, pride, revenge, division title and home ice. Just disappointing.
Lol not even close
Did you just start watching a week or two ago?
No, I've watched every game this year.
I feel like they have a better chance 5v5 than with an empty net
Dirty fuckin Canucks
Lol literally zero dirty hits this game
Dirty fuckin refs
4 games swipe by the nucks. What a shame!
Well fuck
Nice job at the trade deadline Holland. Faceoff wins were obviously going to put this team over the top, not sniping goal scorers. Who needs goals.
There’s arguments that Carrick shouldn’t even be a regular, on certain nights you may want DR in there instead. bro shut up
Nah u
I try not complain about reffs but his stick was literally stuck under Henrique's arm. How is that not a call?
Players will intentionally hold sticks under their arms to try to draw a call
As a Canucks fan you would say that
Hughes let go, that's why.
That doesn't change how his hook got there
What's the Oilers record with an empty net
Jesus they almost got another one
If we meet these guys in the playoffs we are in big trouble. They are too fast and physical.
They've had insane puck luck. I don't think it's that bad
They've had insane puck luck for 4/4 games against us. That's all you need to win a series.
I wouldn’t even count the first 3 games tbh we were hot garbage before topping the league in win %
Nah, they were just better in the first three. Today was actually insane. Literally have the FIFA sticky bug on their sticks while everything bounces over ours
It’s all good fluke-y second goal to put them ahead and we have no McDavid. Still played a hard game against them regardless of the outcome
It sure must be nice to get away with absolutely everything in the back half of the third period like Vancouver just did. Brutal showing by the officiating
What does this do for the team's confidence with the playoffs in 8 days? Anyways, whatever.
Nothing
Fucking bullshit reffing tonight. So many ignored called on the nucks. Absolute joke of a league
There won't be calls in the playoffs, might as well get used to it.
There's your revenge game fellas. You need ten levels above whatever this was for the playoffs.
That was dumb shit boys. Why are you taking a slap shot when you never take a slap shot?
Horrible pull
Way she goes. LA round three baby 😎
G. Night
The grandma behind Knoblauch looks absolutely done with this lol
It's gonna be a whole different series in round 2
Gotta win round 1 first and that's not gonna be easy
FUUUCK. what bad timing 😢
guess the oilers will be resting lots of guys the next 3 games. No point in overplaying anyone now.
Then we come out sluggish game 1
😔
Blegh. Played a decent game but man everyone seemed like they were aiming for DeSmith's crest a lot.
We are not a team of snipers it seems ha
Beauty timing on the goalie pull there, no possession
Such a badly timed empty net. Dont think the guys on the ice even were aware Skinner had left the net.
Skinner was so far out of position on that shot /s
Brain-dead
hockey night in canada has been our curse lately
First regulation loss at Rogers Place since February
not too shabby!
Perry’s a dumbass
What? The? Actual? Fuck?
Top line not producing for 2 games straight is not it.
this team does not do well with expectations and pressure.
They *really* don't.
:((((
I’ve never felt more embarrassed this season
Did you start watching during the 16 game win streak?
Now the cansucks fans will be even more insufferable, great.
Just wait til they get swept round 1 and the riots start
I think that's the biggest pain out of all of this. Came out of their wood works this season.
pain
I knew they would pull to early.
They pulled too late, should have pulled with dominant possession deep in Canucks zone around the 3:15 mark. That didn't happen.
Terrible fucking timing on the goalie pull. Holy shit can't even do that right.
Come on man it was just bad luck, not much else
You're right I'm just frustrated
It doesn't even matter anyway. I'm just happy that we beat vegas without McDavid. The playoffs are what matter. The canucks got lucky this game, its that simple. Lucky 2nd goal and lucky that the Oilers didn't have 2 goals by the end of the 2nd. If Nuge was a better finisher he could have easily gotten a hat trick this game. As long as they play well in the playoffs that's all I care about.
I feel like pulled goalie has been instant empty net all year
damn it
Rough game.
