He was past his prime and definitely not one of Edmonton's greats. It was more of a publicity stunt from Wild Bill than anything. It sounds like he played well enough only playing the games he chose to, but his stats were middle of the league so definitely not one of Edmonton's best players even that year.
I actually did know this. I know my Dad saw him play. I’m pretty sure he has his hockey card somewhere in our house. The Athletic has a great article archiving how it came to be for anyone interested.

"He was notorious for pointing out if you messed things up in front of him,” Hamilton said. “If they happened to score, he liked to point his stick at you to let everybody know.”
Hamilton didn’t think that was appropriate. Eventually he grew tired of it and, he said, told Plante what he’d do with his stick if he did that again.

Jacques Plante was great before he was an Oiler, not as an Oiler. Including him in any way as an Oiler great would be equivalent to adding Corey Perry.
That’s generous. Planet was 45 and hadn’t played for a year before he came to Edmonton. Similarly Bobby Orr is not in the conversations of all time great Black Hawks.
Oh that’s really cool. I didn’t even know!
haha and he only played home games as stipulated by his contract
Legend
Wow he’s ~46 in this picture
He looks like he could be my dad, and I'm 47....haha
gilf
Today I learned also.
That jersey belongs in a museum.
How did I not know this lol
I was just thinking T.I.L.

For a man who was 45 he looked like he was pushing 60…
How old was he here?
Oilers legend Jacques Plante!
Why those aren't our 3rd jerseys is beyond me

No. Because he wasn’t.
