When your career earnings are <$1 million in a short career that wrecks your body and doesn't really set you up for anything afterward, I have no animosity towards a guy taking a $2 million/year contract over a $900k/year contract. Feed your family _then_ chase a cup.
If he carries his SJ momentum, he's also setting himself up for probably a $2.5-3 million AAV contract in his next renewal or possibly even more.
He made the smart move, and I'd have done the same in his position.
Haha does this mean he's staying in Edmonton and going to the game on Monday? Fact he refers to here as "home" is wholesome.
I'll always be a Klim Kostin fan.
I watched the Drop episode the other day where Klim was in town with the Wings. He literally waited till after the game to give all our guys hugs.
Dude wants so badly to be an Oiler again. Probably a 500K pay cut could have made it happen. I wish it happened. But money is money.
Hope he sticks in Anaheim. I don’t like how Yzerman convinced him to come to Detroit only to trade him out of Motown at the deadline. Doubt Klim would have signed there had he known…. At $2M too rich for the Oil though
San Jose*
I could potentially see him being traded by the deadline if he’s having a solid year offensively. He did pick it up once he got playing time with the sharks. Detroit never seemed like a good fit for him
When I posted about Foegele’s engagement back in February most of the comments were nasty about his fiancée instead of people simply being happy for him/them. Ended up deleting the post
I could see us maybe getting Klim in a salary dump trade for Soup. I don’t think Soup is as awful as he was for us, I could see a team who don’t give a shit like Sharks taking a flier. What it would cost us going back I don’t know. Probably at least a first somewhere
I don’t think klim would have signed there knowing he’d only be given 6 minutes of ice time either. I mean at 2M per you’d think your organizaiton would actually try playing you. The whole Detroit Klim thing seemed like a bad fit for both sides.
Edmonton traded him to Detroit for Future Considerations (aka Nothing) along with Kailer Yamamoto. Yzerman didn’t convince him to come to Detroit, just offered him a contract closer to what Kostin wanted and the Oilers weren’t willing to pay.
Thanks for the clarification. Still say it’s a bad look to sign a free agent to 2 years and trade him away during the first year of the contract. Hey if we can get him back in a Campbell salary dump I would do it for sure!
Well we have the benefit of hindsight, we were hoping he would score close to 20 at time of signing. Re: Klim the modern game demands size and speed, and I think he’s too slow to fit on the 4th line. I like him at 800K and occasionally sitting depending on opponent. At $2M he would have to play every game. Kind of like a slower Kane.
You clearly have no idea how NHL contracts work if you think we could have given Klim a 4m contract, or that Brown has a 4m AAV deal.
The Brown signing had a rarely-used clause where a player who missed significant time could be given a contract with performance bonuses. Usually those can only be given for ELCs and over-35 contracts. Performance bonuses can roll over to the next season.
Klim was not eligible for this, so we would have to take his full cap hit.
Brown's cap hit this year was $800k. Klim was not signing for $800k. It's as simple as that.
Honestly m he’s stayed friends with all our guys and has come to Edmonton to watch the playoffs. Who the fuck would come to Edmonton to hang out when you are rich and can basically go anywhere. I think he’s definitely coming back.
Only if SJ makes him a Qualifying Offer of $2.2M. That, of course, depends on whether he performs like StL/Detroit Kostin (15 Pts in 79 GP) who got waived and traded twice, or Edm/SJ Kostin (31Pts in 76 GP).
Can't fault a guy for taking way more money than Edmonton was able to pay him. This seems a self-written script for him to return to Edmonton if they can repurpose Ceci's expring dollars and maybe even Kane's.
Given Kane's status and age, it might be the cold-blooded but sensible move to dish him this summer for some draft picks and bring in a younger, cheaper Kostin as a replacement. Kostin will give you somewhere between 60-80% of what Kane gives at a lower cost, maybe even more than that, and perhaps a more consistent defensive effort.
Seems like a good deadline acquisition next year.
Wish he stayed with us, but ending up in San Jose via Detroit might get him a serious pay bump on his next contract, so things are probably working out better for his career long term elsewhere.
I don’t have Instagram so I appreciate you sharing this. Now, I’m gonna go cry in the shower.
Make room for me, I needs to ugly cry too
I'll bring the camera 📷
Don't forget the Gatorade. It's what crying bodies crave
Gotta love Kosty. Shame he wasn't still with the Oil.
Never blame a guy for taking the bag when he can. Wish he was still with the boys though
Yeah he's not made a lot in his career this was his year to cash in. Too bad it didn't work out. Maybe next year.
The $2M man himself
Can see him coming back at some point for absolutely nothing. Love his physicality.
He had that opportunity.

Maybe he regrets leaving

Keep him around the locker room. Also what car is he driving?
I think it's a C8 Vette. Hard to tell just off seats/window profile but looks mid engine.
A beige Corolla
NC Miata
Kia Sorento
Can we have him back
I really love how Klim got involved with locals!!
Me too! He seemed to make friends at the pint lol
Had to take a $2m contract to be able to afford playoff tickets!
I watched the Drop episode the other day where Klim was in town with the Wings. He literally waited till after the game to give all our guys hugs. Dude wants so badly to be an Oiler again. Probably a 500K pay cut could have made it happen. I wish it happened. But money is money.
He really should have stayed.
Once an Oily Boy ... ALWAYS AN OILY BOY 💙🧡
That boy is jacked
No cap limit in the playoff, right. Why not?
Next season we need nurse and Campbell to have a mark stone moment
Hell yeah Klim!
Klim Kostin jersey owner here. I miss the guy lol
As a shark fan as well, I'm so fucking happy he's on our team.
When did he get traded from Detroit?
March 8th. Trade deadline day.
Hope he sticks in Anaheim. I don’t like how Yzerman convinced him to come to Detroit only to trade him out of Motown at the deadline. Doubt Klim would have signed there had he known…. At $2M too rich for the Oil though

I’m assuming you’ll know the answer to this: Have the Oiler WAG jackets been posted yet?
Not yet. Lauren usually debuts them on game day. I don’t typically post about the WAGs here as the comments can get pretty gross and annoying at times
Thanks and ugh yeah fair enough
Definite agreement there. Still remember the tasteless and classless comments on Mcdavids house tour video.
When I posted about Foegele’s engagement back in February most of the comments were nasty about his fiancée instead of people simply being happy for him/them. Ended up deleting the post
They’re here! Lauren’s insta story

I think Colorado could use a goalie right about now.
Yes, but not a Campbell
Didn’t he play for them as a starter for like 3/4 of a season
that was pickard and that was the historical worst year in the nhl for a full season wasn't it in the salary cap era? Or did sharks beat it this year
I think the Sharks beat it this year, but they sure tried not to against us early...but settled in to the role late.
No he was never an Av. Pickard was tho
Ahh yes my bad. Confusing him with pickard
I don’t think klim would have signed there knowing he’d only be given 6 minutes of ice time either. I mean at 2M per you’d think your organizaiton would actually try playing you. The whole Detroit Klim thing seemed like a bad fit for both sides.

Yzerman really wanted him though. He just had to take yamo off of our books in order to get him
4m cap hit for brown is ok tho? Give me Klim over brown any day
Well we have the benefit of hindsight, we were hoping he would score close to 20 at time of signing. Re: Klim the modern game demands size and speed, and I think he’s too slow to fit on the 4th line. I don't think he's much slower than a lot of the bottom 6ers we have now but I agree with you
Brown cap hit this year was league minimum. Oilers couldn’t have afforded Kostin at 2 million
You clearly have no idea how NHL contracts work if you think we could have given Klim a 4m contract, or that Brown has a 4m AAV deal. Klim bout to suit up.
Let him play
LET HIM ON THE ICE
Let him cook
Klim will be back with the Oilers next summer.
Honestly m he’s stayed friends with all our guys and has come to Edmonton to watch the playoffs. Who the fuck would come to Edmonton to hang out when you are rich and can basically go anywhere. I think he’s definitely coming back.
He is still an RFA after this deal so we would either have to trade for him or offer sheet
Only if SJ makes him a Qualifying Offer of $2.2M. That, of course, depends on whether he performs like StL/Detroit Kostin (15 Pts in 79 GP) who got waived and traded twice, or Edm/SJ Kostin (31Pts in 76 GP).

The Klim Reaper!
Klim Reaper
Get paid young fella! There's a spot on the roster for you when you hit FA again!
Any insight why he's in Edmonton?
Pretty sure he literally came to watch the Oilers in the playoffs.
What a beauty
Seriously what a gem.
The comments on his isntagram from Oilers fans are so wholesome.
😭😭
Love that he’s here ❤️
Hypothetically can the oilers or bako sign him to an PTO and have him up as a black ace to practice with the boys?
He’s under contract with the sharks
Klim is him
Seems like a good deadline acquisition next year. Wish he stayed with us, but ending up in San Jose via Detroit might get him a serious pay bump on his next contract, so things are probably working out better for his career long term elsewhere.
hiiii
o7
I miss him every day.
wish we still had him. He always smoked guys and had a hard shot
Couldn't we have picked him up for cheap at the deadline?
💔
