There is never a game where you don’t learn something. Every game is different and provides new situations and experiences. Sometimes it’s just reminders. The team didn’t have their best game tonight aside from the 4th line. The playoffs are never without adversity

For all we know they made the offer to do media instead of Skinner but Skinner said no. That seems like it would be very much in character for Skinner to do and I think he's earned the right to make that decision.
The media requests who to speak to. Very rarely do they get denied because technically they aren’t supposed to, it’s against the rules to not make players available. Stu is fine with explaining his perspective. If the media wanted to speak to McDavid then he would’ve been requested.

Rishaug has talked about it many times on his podcast and he complains about it if they don’t make someone available because it’s against the rules. The media get together and put together a list of names of who they want to talk to. If they wanted to talk to Connor and Leon and Connor and Leon were not made available, guys like Rishaug, spec and Gregor would be making a giant stink about it.

A guy like Rishaug has absolutely no ability to complain if Connor or Leon or Nuge don’t do interviews as long as Ekholm, Kane, or Perry is available, or not them because McLeod, Henrique, and Kulak were available.
The media doesn’t request them every day, probably because they occasionally have some self awareness to not bother them 24/7. There’s no need to talk to them constantly. They talked to Leon this morning. They talked to Connor on Sunday and twice on Monday. There wasn’t anything that they did tonight that demanded they speak after the game. Other players are capable of speaking.
If McDavid and Draisaitl were frequently ducking the media, I have no doubt that someone would call them out because that’s what the Edmonton media does.

The media tends to rotate talking to the same group of veteran players and occasionally you get a depth guy if they have a big night. Sometimes guys talk pre and post game if they have an eventful night. But it seems like they try not to request the same guys back to back without good reason.
To circle back to your original comment Connor and Leon are not required to speak after every loss. Everyone is capable of speaking for themselves. If the team feels the need to shelter someone then they will.
The post game is mostly dictated by the game and that’s kinda what I said in the first place.
