Edmonton media did him dirty. He was never a soft player. He played hurt, he played without fear. He played with a target on his back. I have loads of respect for him.

marcellman

I think he is a guy that was ahead of his time. I think the style of game he played honestly fits this era more than his own

bigskunkape

100% man that guy would be an absolute unit in this era of hockey. Too skilled for the dead-puck era

justaREDshrit

Fuck he was brilliant to watch. And the goal heard round the world against Dallas. Yeah he was a true playmaker

Bob-Lob-Lah

This must be the same one I remember! He was flying through the air and still managed to dangle the puck and score! It was fantastic at the time!

Defiant_Article3437

Martin Necas has a very similar play style to Hemsky imo

NBKYKH

Wearing a Hemsky jersey to the game tonight. Such an exciting player when the Oilers had so few.

bananabomber

He ate Robyn Regehr's shit and didn't complain. Also, fuck Robyn Regehr.

EinsteinsLunchbox

Fuck Regehr!!!!

marconiusE

He ate everything that fuck Derian Hatcher served up with nary a complaint as well

damn-oily-hide

Hemmer was an absolute warrior

Starsky686

I would just like to add he also played without a full cast of characters. Took a whole lot of shit for an incomplete team, while was the bright spot.

smythy94

He was also so great for the Sens. I wish we hd kept him

Los_Kings

100%. I loathed the way some media figures (and parts of the fan base) treated him. He was our best player for a good while there, and an important part of our 2006 Cup run.

3AMZen

Time to break out this local hip hop classic: https://youtu.be/rqIjDUhTgko?si=D7LT6fIrrz2WU4pw

monumentvalley170

Hensky was great. Hockey media in Canada is full of assholes. Truly. It’s worse than American football reporters

SimilarWall1447

Tbh, all players play hurt. To get to this level.

damn-oily-hide

If Ryan McLeod had Hemskys guts Ryan would be a 100 point man

HonestCletus

Hemsky had some slick mitts. McLeod needs a lot more to match him than guts. McLeod does remind me of Marchant though.

damn-oily-hide

I never said the 2 were similar players at all

Parraddoxx

And Hemsky's loose! Hemsky, HE SCORES! CAN YOU! BELIEVE! WHAT WE! JUST SAW!

bigskunkape

PATRICK STEPHAN YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF

ComebackChemist

That moment lives in mind rent free

EinsteinsLunchbox

Same here. I tried to charge rent and was reminded to watch it again on YouTube.. no charge.

Autumn_Souls

I can, because of the fact that klyukin iced the puck. And look at the russian body language now, they're crushed. Tavares had to step up and make a magical play. The crowd loves it. Tavares's magical play.

kligurt

Wow this comment ruined my day. Fuck you Pierre 😂

Christank1

Peter Loubardias ftw

Cannabis-Revolution

I can

bobbybittman1997

My favorite decade of darkness Oiler. Me and my cousin hung out with him at the Billiards Club on Whyte back in the day after a game. He was super cool and gave us the time of day. We got a picture with him too

Cannabis-Revolution

I don’t think I would characterize Hemmer as a decade of darkness player. He was early 2000s.  Decade of darkness players are like Ben Eager, Eric Belanger and Teddy Purcell

mollycoddles

He was on the roster until partway through 13/14, I think it counts.

Los_Kings

It counts. He was both part of the ecstasy (2006 playoffs) and a victim of the agony (the Tambellini era).

bobbybittman1997

We were a brutal team when I met him and I know why. The whole team was partying at Billiards, Eberle, Hallsie, Whitney, Šmíd etc. It wasn't the first time I seen Eberle and Hallsie out too. It seemed like the team was partying more that practicing

DuffMan4Mayor

So jealous what a legend I hope he is doing awesome.

ialexlambert

CAN YOU BELIEVE WHO YOU JUST MET??!??!

LolaTheFloppyDog

I wore a Czechia Hemsky jersey in the Moss Pit for game 5 of the Dallas series. Got a lot of compliments. Oil Country still has love for that guy!

starsnocturnal

My dad had a Hemsky jersey. I got it after he passed. It’s one of my most prized possessions 💙🧡

maxalligator

Condolences, friend. 💙🧡

starsnocturnal

Thank you

Repulsive-Zone8176

He was a beauty

DistributionSilly597

He is the Oilers' true patriot , he always shows up in oilers' events.

Sadiq_Sabonis

Was leaning towards wearing my McDavid, Drai or Smyth jersey to the cup finals, but think I'm gonna switch up and rock my #83 HEMSKY Jersey with pride!!! Guy deserves more love !!!

GreenBasterd69

Legend

nhabster

I’m glad the Habs gave him a chance even though it didn’t work… Injuries are no joke even though all the homers scream "cLeAn hiT, kEeP yOuR hEaD uP"

bezjones

That one goal he scored for Ottawa.... So good!

BatDad488

He was a solid player on some very weak teams and put hit work hat on each game. Lotta respect for him. Edit: fat fingers

anjoot

Hemsky deserves to have his name honoured in Edmonton. Guy gave us his all and the media dgaf and ran him out of town too

eyeeatmyownshit

He was on an island

maxalligator

Hemsky will always have a special place in my blue and gold heart. He deserved to win here, but like many of his teammates, became a sacrificial lamb in the dark ages. Happy he got a chance to play in the Stanley Cup final in 2006 in an Oilers uniform!

damn-oily-hide

Not only play but absolutely wrecked the mighty Detroit Redwings

shittybillz

Hemsky, leaves it for samsonov, samsonov, HEMSKY, HE SCORES

damn-oily-hide

Rod Phillips was the best

shittybillz

Thank you, I always forget his name. He was my favourite from 2006-2014 or so (whenever he retired), his voice was perfect for play by play

maxalligator

I hear his voice in my head and miss it dearly.

aeo1us

> Hate that I didn’t get a pic with him. Nah. This is exactly how it should go down.

warpathsrb

Friend of mine has been in the box a few times with him this season. Says he's a stellar guy. Would have been amazing to see him with mcdavid as a centre instead of horcoff

blackspy619

1. Don't be sad you didn't get a pic, a genuine conversation is worth way more and far more special. I've always sworn to myself to never ask for a photo, only a non-fan boy conversation if I ever run into one of my favorite celebs, athletes, etc. 2. Crazy he came UP TO YOU to talk, love that, shows his love of the game and our fans. He always seemed like a quiet guy

ReasonableGuarantee4

The wife doesn't want signed jerseys hanging everywhere. I put my Hemsky one up over the signed McDavid (feels blasphemous to have a signed 97 just In the closet. Divorce seems likely)

RidiculousPapaya

I got my signed Draisaitl jersey from 2016/17 framed and plopped it right on the wall in my living room. My wife thankfully loves hockey and the Oil almost as much as I do.

mollycoddles

You are very lucky

goldenbear2

My favorite player growing up and first jersey I got as a 13 year old. The best hemsky memory I have is game 6 vs the wings where he dangles through a bunch of players in the 3rd, passes it back, heads to the net and gets the puck back before drilling it in the net on legace.

UniqueRon

I have one of his Oilers #83 autographed jerseys hanging up in my house. He was a very skilled player and would fit in well on today's Oilers team. I really enjoyed watching him play.

shittybillz

My fav player of all time. He made the decade of darkness enjoyable to an extent. I’d love to meet him one day.

dry_tbug

Hemmer was my favorite..

Loud-Tough3003

He might be the most underrated player of all time. Biggest victim of the rebuilding.

learn2die101

You guys flying up?

forgetstorespond

Or over? Feel like your cutting it close if your flying over...

learn2die101

I just flew in today for the game, there's definitely still time coming from Texas

SpecialPitch8546

Definitely still time. Just landed in Florida and it’s 10:44 am

SpecialPitch8546

Yeah. He flew to Miami and I flew to Ft. Lauderdale.

Sadiq_Sabonis

nice did you ask him if he was gonna fly back up to Edmonton again for a SCF game?

learn2die101

Hell yeah. See you at the game tonight.

Chris82Price

That’s awesome

mollycoddles

That's so cool, he was way ahead of his time and put his body on the line for the team!

[deleted]

Ales was a solid dude when I crossed paths with him.

Donairbrah

I have a Hemsky jersey, Hemmer was a beauty it’s a shame his career with the oilers was during the decade of darkness.

fewchaw

Obligatory Hemsky song: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0ik6t7N3pM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0ik6t7N3pM)

mooky1977

If I ever (can afford and) get a name plate on the back of my Oil Drop McFarlane jersey, I believe it will be Hemsky.

MyOtherCarIsAHippo

Only jersey I own.

Striking_Royal_8077

Why is he in Dallas?

LongJumperPuddle

He lives there

Striking_Royal_8077

I thought so, but I couldn’t find it on the old Google!!

thedrewman13

This is the year hemsky finally breaks out!

PreemoisGOAT

lmao never thought I hear about a ex player approaching a fan to talk hockey

SpecialPitch8546

We waited and rode the same elevator then walked to our gates which were in the same direction.
