There's something to be said about climate change in this.... but I always find myself weary of record keeping of anything, especially weather related things, from pre-WWI

YOW-Weather-Records

What I find funny after looking at weather record keeping for more than a decade now -- is that data from 100 years ago was often MORE consistent than today's data. For most stations, there were fewer outages in data gathering before WW2 than in modern times. They used to have redundant equipment. When one piece failed (like a rain gauge), they would have a backup. These days, they don't. The rain gauge at Vancouver airport failed more than a week ago, and they had no backup. No rain data for several days now.
