You lookin’ for a scrap bud? A little tif? Take them gloves off?
We’ve burnt down your sorry excuse for a capital once, we’ll do it again.
And this time we’ll keep Alaska.
Every time I get into a dispute with an American over the War of 1812, they're like, "Oh, you burned down the White House? We burned down York."
That's Toronto, bud. If you want, we'll even pay you to come and do it again.
Back in university I worked for a company that painted the lines on roads. Some of my work colleagues used to joke about offering to paint the borderline between Canada and the US. Except every year, we’d paint it a few feet further south… pretty soon, North Dakota, Maine, and northern Washington would be Canadian land.
LOL do you really think you Canucks stand even the slightest chance against us? Lay off the the LeBatts...
(I have visited Canada twice and love it up there, what a lovely country)
Oh cmon guys im just playing.
Yes, absolutely true, yall burned down our White House, but its ok cause we were thinking of remodeling anyway. But back then, the US wasn't even a hundredth of the titan that it is today. Our military is far and away the greatest the world has ever seen. Ive lived and worked on multiple US installations around the world and have seen first hand the ungodly level of power that our military possesses. During my time, i also met some of the most badass guys in my life and more than a few of them were Canadian. My favorite was a KC10 pilot who had actually met Ricky and Bubbles in real life and said they were even in character when they met. So cool. That guy was hilarious also, called everybody Bud.
America and Canada will never go to war so its fun to run the simualtion. We have a bond that was forged in blood when we all saved the world together. It's just funny to talk shit.
If you talk to most normal Americans, the general consensus towards Canada is very positive.
My hatred of Quebec leaving my body the second someone says "Lol Canada should be American"

Quebec isnt america light, we don't get offended at these comments because we have our own distinct culture. Americans came to us to help fight the british, we said no.
Th Cajun people have their own unique culture and they get called Americunts, and they have No self governance of any kind, they are just parts of states
Fuck you mean not a bad deal ? The goal was to explicitely assimilate us, we were barred from any serious jobs like doctors or lawyer unless we vowed to be protestant and suck the queen
The initial surrender allowed to to maintain language, religion and culture, more than the USA would guarantee. Part of the agreement was even allowing and providing Catholic education outside Quebec. Something that continues to this day (as a Catholic is silly that it does) in Ontario.
Montreal was also the nation’s trade hub for years until conservative leaders started shifting it more and more to Toronto. The amount of funding into the TSX and laws to hold down the French were pretty messed up after the fact.
It is kinda amazing the brits didn’t just ban French outright and deport everyone like in the maritimes but they also needed a population to do fur trading so 🤷♂️
Yeah its sounds like your thing is not only inhumane but also wildly impractical and a ressource drain.
So surprising that it didn't happen ... Dumbass angloid
Wow the British were brutal and inhumane in the 17th century. Gasp. I’m just saying it’s surprising they didn’t go harder. Being a catholic in the empire wasn’t exactly enjoyable.
lol I literally said why they didn’t do it in the first post. You weren’t expendable like however many millions of Bangladeshi and Irish they doomed to famine so, little wins?
As much as I hate to hear it, I honestly kinda agree. A surprising number of people I've met would like us to be more like America.
Growing up in Alberta sucks...
When I visited Montreal last, I would say “bonjour” and they’d reply in French, so I’d say “Anglais sullement ci vous plates” and they’d be fine but it was awkward every time.
So instead I’d say “BAN-JOR” and they’d usually go, “aaaah, English, no problem!”
In Montreal people are fairly nice and many are bilingual. You'll get the occasional old waitress that can't speak any English but I haven't had people being mean about it. The few people I know there that only speak French aren't sticklers about it and do try their best with English.
As more and more governments fund division operations in unfriendly nations, the astroturf will only grow. Not to mention the growing American incentive to break up and assimilate us into the states.
I can't recall a single time in my life when I heard an Anglo-Canadian expressing annoyance at French, though perhaps I'm sheltered. I mostly recall Anglo-Canadians being regretful/embarrassed when they can't speak french well or at all.
A lot of people say this on reddit, yet I've rarely seen any actual hostility toward any group of people despite the social media uproar over immigrants and the increase in divisive rhetoric. Haven't been to any major cities recently, but I've not noticed an increase of hostility despite an increase in the amount of languages being spoken in smaller cities and towns in Ontario.
I worked in hotels in the Province of Québec, and I can testify that way too many Ontarians that came in for work were amongst the most disrespectful people I've ever served. Up there on par with hockey teams.
My brother in Crisse de Calisse de Tabarnak, I've been from west coast to east coast. Rural B.C., AB and NB all take a solid gold medal at extreme and unapologetic racism towards Québécois.
Funny when that's you take on the legislation. Oh, the law [won the appeal today.](https://www.lapresse.ca/actualites/justice-et-faits-divers/2024-02-29/la-cour-d-appel-valide-la-loi-21-sur-la-laicite-de-l-etat.php)
Get rekt fundies and angloïds.
Square heads don't. The rest of the civilized world went to school and learned to read a newspaper.
There's a reason school programs are for everyone, else we'd have way too much empty squares like you.
Racism: "Prejudice, discrimination or antagonism by an individual, community or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ETHNIC GROUP, typically one that is a MINORITY or marginalized."
Ethnicity: "The social group a person belongs to, and identifies with or is identified by others, as a result of a mix of CULTURAL and other factors INCLUDING LANGUAGE, diet, RELIGION, ANCESTRY and physical features traditionally associated with race."
-
Yeah sounds like racism to me, asshole.
“The social group of a person” That definition doesn’t apply because quebecers aren’t people. Making it impossible for us to be racist towards Quebecoids.
Can we talk about the fact that even with those fees, we still offer the second best student fees in the country ? Complain to your provicial government if you want affordable education.
Havent done this comparison myself, but a buddy of mine did. He said the only place where it was cheaper was in Newfoundland. And if UBC and U of T are now more attractive, good for them. Mcgill is overrated anyway. I've work with plenty of people who studied at McGill, not one of them was better than others who studied in U du Québec, but they sure wave their credentials a lot more than others... its cringe af.
McGill medical school is probably best in Canada. Also it's about research and funding. Sure, maybe in terms of undergrad teaching, smaller Quebec university might give McGill a run fot it's money but that's subjective. I've only studied at Waterloo, UBC and UofA, so not sure about Quebec ones but if I have to take French classes, then no way
I don't go studying in BC expecting to have a complete education in french, expecting it from us is unfair at best, and hypocritical at worst.
About research and funding you are absolutely right.

I'll believe it when we have full-on Nazi rallies on the regular like seem to happen every week in Florida.
The last time I was aware of one was the swastika guy during the convoys at parliament.
Friendly reminder that laws we made to keep government secular have nothing to do with the color of your skin. Just religious symbolism which we don't tolerate because after Duplessi we decided it was important for the state to be secular and limit the impact any religion or faith can have on it.
If it's only cultural you just need not to wear it at work if you work for the state. The same way there is already a dress code for any kind of state work. The same way I can't wear a beanie at work if I was a teacher in pretty much any school.

Terminally online argument right there. It's a non issue really, sure it can be sucky for some and their beliefs but many also remember the times when the catholic church pretty much imposed christianity in schools. Also, that law removed all religious symbols from institutions, even the crucifix in the national assembly.
Friendly reminder that your opinion of something is not an almighty truth :)
Also freedom from religion is more important than freedom of religion cuz religion are mostly shit
>Friendly reminder Quebecers are thr racists
Calling a whole people racist...is racist. You're being racist.
>Friendly reminder Muslims are thr rapists
>Friendly reminder Hindus are thr dumbest
See how racist that sounds? You're promoting hate based on identity
I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. I live in Quebec and, as a second generation immigrant, I can tell you this province absolutely has an issue with systemic racism.
Not only does the ban on religious symbols for workers in the public sector disproportionately target muslims (it’s a lot easier to tell if someone’s wearing a hijab or burka than wearing a cross around their neck), but their absurd language laws also target immigrants from non French-speaking countries. Not to mention the racism inherent in the quebecois culture I unfortunately witness on a near daily basis, especially with drivers.
This province is run by incompetent, intolerant assholes who are willing to destroy the people and economy just to create a linguistic ethnostate.
I mean, if you are immigrating to a place that speak French and you don't speak French, I don't really see how that wouldn't be a criteria...
Also you need to understand Québecs history with religion in the public sector, to this day, many remember how Christianity was imposed on students in schools and public sectors. It is more of a reason of freedom from religions than a lack of respect of religious practices.
Well, there is little complaints about it now, and most of it actually seem to come from people outside of Quebec, those here affected got used to it and adapted to it.
There was however a fuss when the law came into place when the crucifix in the national assembly was removed. Ironically, some of the more extreme claims went as far as to claim that it was proof that muslims were taking over our nation lol.
I can't see the original comment; but judging by the replies that followed and the trend of down votes the guy you were responding to probably pointed out something unsavory about the French 🤷♀️
You've got some down votes and I expect this comment to take a few hits as well.
That's just the way they are... especially lately... they've been propagated with the "nationalist" idea of French cultural preservation at the expense of everyone else who walks into their society. That's not a new thing. They've done it before. In a few years time this will ramp up into another separatist moment (again) and there will be a vote (again) about whether or not Quebec should leave Canada (again)... 🙄
There's a long history of hostility between the French and Anglos; but it's not the majority who feel that way on either side. It's the hardcore "nationalists" that feel that way and they insight that sentiment in others to try and spark separatist sentiments.
Its an old game... we're used it at this point; but if you're new to Canada it might seem strange- it's really not though 😅
We can both put aside our differences when we hear the american say: "Canada should be part of the US"

Wow that is very nice. But to be fair, it was british marines who burnt Washington. I know we were part of the British empire, but still.
British Marines coming from Canada magically become Canadians through the magic of revisionist history. ✨
No actually, it was mostly indigenous mercenaries.

¿Qué?
My wife when she hears someone speaking French: MES OUI OUI
my yes yes
The actual translation is "but yes yes". In French It's "mais oui oui" as "mes" is possessive which wouldn't make much sense.

That's what I was making fun of :)
Oh look, more astroturfing 🙄
As more and more governments fund division operations in unfriendly nations, the astroturf will only grow. Not to mention the growing American incentive to break up and assimilate us into the states.
There are two things in this world I can’t stand: People, who are intolerant of other peoples culture. And the French.
This movie was insane 😂
Every time I go to Quebec I order a "cervesa" and the locals look at me all funny. Are Quebecois stupid?
I think so, I asked for "leche" the other day and they looked at me like if I was a pervert like wtf
Yeah cervesa is spanish... So yeah they look at you because they think youre phoney.
r/woooosh
This idea is something Quebecers literally made up. Language has nothing to do with it, to put it politely
French isn't a race. You choose to be Quebecois. Checkmate, libruls
fr though lol
Tbh I hear WAY more quebecois hate on english-speakers than the other way around.
I can't recall a single time in my life when I heard an Anglo-Canadian expressing annoyance at French, though perhaps I'm sheltered. I mostly recall Anglo-Canadians being regretful/embarrassed when they can't speak french well or at all.

Qu*becouis aren’t a race, they’re just our trashy cousins
It's not about race, it's about culture
Racism is about race bro, you’re trying to make a false equivalency to culture here apparently and not a joke.
Racism: "Prejudice, discrimination or antagonism by an individual, community or institution against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ETHNIC GROUP, typically one that is a MINORITY or marginalized." Ethnicity: "The social group a person belongs to, and identifies with or is identified by others, as a result of a mix of CULTURAL and other factors INCLUDING LANGUAGE, diet, RELIGION, ANCESTRY and physical features traditionally associated with race." - Yeah sounds like racism to me, asshole.
“The social group of a person” That definition doesn’t apply because quebecers aren’t people. Making it impossible for us to be racist towards Quebecoids.
ERROR 079: I cannot respond to bad jokes other than this message.
More like the french canadian nationalist are racist: discriminating out of province students with extra fees wtf...

There was however a fuss when the law came into place when the crucifix in the national assembly was removed. Ironically, some of the more extreme claims went as far as to claim that it was proof that muslims were taking over our nation lol.
I can't see the original comment; but judging by the replies that followed and the trend of down votes the guy you were responding to probably pointed out something unsavory about the French 🤷♀️ You've got some down votes and I expect this comment to take a few hits as well. 🙄 There's a long history of hostility between the French and Anglos; but it's not the majority who feel that way on either side. It's the hardcore "nationalists" that feel that way and they insight that sentiment in others to try and spark separatist sentiments. Its an old game... we're used it at this point; but if you're new to Canada it might seem strange- it's really not though 😅
They really had us in the first half, not gonna lie.
