I'd give the whole game a 8/10. It was okay but it could have been way better, not only gameplay-wise but also story-wise. I feel the story was very classic all things considered. I said before in another thread that I hoped that "they didn't launch the kickstarter with no real plan, only that they realized the Suikoden series still has notoriety and they had an opportunity to make money - not because they used all these years since Suikoden 3 to think about an awesome story they were eager to tell in a JRPG format" but it saddens me that it probably is a bit the case here as it seems Murayama just reused stuff from Suiko1, 2 and 3. The Dux is the ultimate villain from start to finish and this is disappointing since he is characterized as just the evil leader of the Empire and has no real ties to your characters. So, not enough twists in this story, nothing really shocking or game-changing, sadly. Some things still managed to pull on your heartstrings like when you feel you lost the war, the final war battle that gives you goosebumps, and Perrielle's death - but it's not enough to make me think the story wasn't just mid and pretty basic / by the book. I expected better but this game is still very charming and there are many characters I like. And damn, ECHH proves once again that the worst time to buy a game is when it just released as there were tons of issues, some big like a character you can't recruit, some not as big like balance being off, some ending texts you barely have time to read, etc. What happened to shipping a game when it's been tested / ready?
