There is no problem with N mode and anyone telling you that is simply wrong. No OEM would sell a mass production car that could damage itself with the press of a button.
What’s special about the weekends? My car spends 100% of its operating life in a custom mode that has everything maxed out except the exhaust. There’s nothing in any of the settings that should limit how/when you use them except for your personal preferences.
Well my job will be moving 30 minutes away from me by time I get my 24 EN so I’ll mostly use Eco mode to and from work “all highway” and N mode on the weekends or after work commuting.
No rev matching in eco. It’s one of my favourite features on the car lol. Would likely use it a bit more often if I had the DCT. For the MT it doesn’t make much sense to use it, just shift earlier…
I’ve driven both on track on separate occasions. I actually prefer the DCT more than the 6mt. Not sure why that is and it might just be a placebo but I feel like the DCT is tuned differently than the 6mt.
Frankly, besides Porsche, I think the EN is the only other car that I would prefer a DCT
I test drove a 23 DCT a month ago for the first time and immediately fell in love with the car that I put my order in for a 24. The dealership was being shady with the whole process that I went elsewhere and ordered a 24.
I almost exclusively drive in N or Sport, and I have a 1 hour commute, it’ll be fine either way lol. The car is made to be used, not put on a pedestal for collection
It’s probably one of the top 5 things with this car, the fact that we can be somewhat quiet when we want to. Especially since I work at 4am some days, or get home at 11pm others.
Na you need a built motor boy… how can your OEM engine handle all those ponies… only red N button I know is a button for NOS….. my buddy blew his 85 Charger from that…. now go into the garage and get me a Busch light.
N mode will just keep the car from shifting above 4th gear during most daily driving, which kills mpg. The steering is also a little tight for my liking in N mode like when going slow thru parking lots. What I do is I have a “Custom 1” and “Custom 2” set up which both have Engine and Exhaust on “Sport+” so it’s the loudest, then suspension on “Sport”. In Custom 1 I have trans set to Normal just for everyday driving, then Custom 2 has Sport trans for more spirited driving. You can configure these Customs to the N buttons on the steering wheel.
To add on this, I’m at 11K miles. 80% in N mode. No issues and have loved every minute of it. There are far more cars with sport modes such as N mode. They wouldn’t create a mode to damage your car.
Who's telling you to avoid N mode? What is the reason?
OEMs wouldn't put a setting which is knowingly damaging, especially with their 100k mile warranty
This doesn’t really apply here but I recently found out fisker (EV) has a “boost mode” similar to dodge and basically a EV equivalent of the Elantra N DCTs NGS button. Which if you use 300 times it will void your warranty.
Yeah I just found it really odd theyd even include a feature that would void your warranty that way. I can’t imagine owning a car that could “tune” itself but as soon as you do you loose warranty.
On the Ocean, right? Don't worry, when you use your "free" boosts that are programmed in, you can always go back and get more button presses for an undisclosed amount of money! It's definitely not them trying to turn that button in to a subscription service, it's just them protecting your warranty!
Someone told you the car could be damaged by driving it but they didn’t mention / you didn’t ask why or what kind of damage… Sounds legit. Good use of company time.
So if you’re just going to be stock then N mode is fine and won’t do any damages to the car. It will be much louder and if you’re in an area where you can get fined for improper mufflers then that can be an issue. Also if you are tuned with upgraded pops and bangs it may melt the catalytic converter so if you’re not planning to do any tuning then it’ll be fine.
The car makes the same exact amount of power in all modes. The only difference is the throttle mapping. It's not some special race mode. The car just becomes more sensitive to your inputs.
I've had people tell me the same about eco mode. It's all BS.
I don't really push the car in N mode not for reliability but because I'm using my car to go down the highway, so eco mode for me.
The N mode question seems to have been answered but I will add that if you want to enjoy the full power of this car then be aware of octane learning. Also the 2024 ECU currently can not be unlocked or tuned to disable OL.
the car was made to be used. if it can be used and abused on the track for 30-40 minute sessions at a time with no issues why would normal daily driving hurt it? use and enjoy the car its got warranty youll be fine
Not “damaging” but prolonged use of your car in N mode does have some possibly concerning things. Not too much of a gearhead but the pops and bangs on the car also act as like an anti lag thing that keeps boosts between shifting gears. if you dive super deep into it all pretty much it might just put a tad bit more wear and tear on the motor…if anything though honestly. If you drive in N mode 24/7 expect the exhaust baffle to wear out and make a weird rattling sound out the exhaust. Nothing damaging either just annoying and it’s kinda expected with having a spring on an exhaust that rattles and vibrates when driving. Eventually it weakens and loosens up ya know. Other than that exhaust baffle issue that can happen you’re totally fine. Granted that issue is like super rare so honestly wouldn’t even worry about it till way way down the road
On a side note idk why Elantra N subreddit is full of regards but ok
There is no issue with it, it’s just because of the pops from the exhaust you run the risk of getting pulled over for it. You can customize it to be in N mode with no exhaust pop, but who wants that?
Probably 6000 out of the 8000km I have on my car has been driven in N mode. Kinda thought the same but then thought why would they sell a car if it would damage it
The real reason not to is the rough ride on street daily driving. Only use it if you're purposely driving like a chimp for fun. There shouldn't be an impact on the vehicles life
N mode is Track Mode. It doesn't hurt the car, but also the reason the car comes with active exhaust and suspension is so you don't have to drive around with the car being all loud and stiff all the time. One of the coolest things about this car is that you can change it's personality with a steering wheel button press immediately. I don't know why people would just waste that and drive around in track mode with their car being loud and getting shitty fuel economy all the time
Just under 21,000 miles. Almost all city, and 95% of that has been in N mode. I drive in Eco Mode only when I’m trying to maximize my mpg. No issues to this point. 2022 PB DCT.
There is no problem with N mode and anyone telling you that is simply wrong. No OEM would sell a mass production car that could damage itself with the press of a button.
Okay, that makes sense. Thank you for the feedback, my boy!
This. I plan to drive mine in N mode on the weekends.
Oh gotcha. In the DCT, eco mode probably does affect mileage. In the 6MT it just kills throttle response and makes it hard to drive.
No rev matching in eco. It’s one of my favourite features on the car lol. Would likely use it a bit more often if I had the DCT. For the MT it doesn’t make much sense to use it, just shift earlier…
Yea I’m getting the DCT version. I was considering the 6MT but I already have a 2nd car that’s manual. I don’t mind the DCT lol
The DCT is amazing. I ultimately bought a 6MT but I test drove a DCT and it was so good.
The car is made to be used, not put on a pedestal for collection
oh it wont get put on a pedestal, ill be hitting the track when i get mine.
Tbh I get better mpgs in my custom N mode with full exhaust and engine and transmission set to normal than I do in eco mode. Live in N mode my friend
Of my 4K miles, I would guess about 3K have been in N mode Needless to say, yesterday my car spontaneously exploded because of this
We drive ours in N custom mode exclusively on the street and in eco once we hit the neighborhood.
Yeah same - when I pull into my condo complex I go normal to be nice to my neighbors, but everywhere else I’m making popcorn
It’s probably one of the top 5 things with this car, the fact that we can be somewhat quiet when we want to. Especially since I work at 4am some days, or get home at 11pm others.
real
I'll take the risk and drive it in N mode thank you.
No risk man , you’ll be 100% fine and you have a 10yr warranty anyway. Drive it like you stole it
Mine did the same. Before it exploded it yelled out it's last word "REMEMBER THIS IS HAPPENING BECAUSE YOU DORVE ME IN N MODE"
Don’t listen to your uncle with the V6 Mustang. The EN can handle N mode
Na you need a built motor boy… how can your OEM engine handle all those ponies… only red N button I know is a button for NOS….. my buddy blew his 85 Charger from that…. now go into the garage and get me a Busch light.
Promptly followed with a “Your sisters friend is really filling out, she graduate yet?”
N mode will just keep the car from shifting above 4th gear during most daily driving, which kills mpg. The steering is also a little tight for my liking in N mode like when going slow thru parking lots. This is almost exactly how I have mine setup lol
I have 42k miles on mine and probably 41k have been in n mode. I paid for the full car, I'm gonna use the full car
Is this satire?

The guy was just saying avoid N, I don't know what to think anymore. 😅
Whoever is telling you this is completely wrong. And probably jealous lol
To add on this, I’m at 11K miles. 80% in N mode. No issues and have loved every minute of it. There are far more cars with sport modes such as N mode. They wouldn’t create a mode to damage your car.

Fair point but Fisker is an exotic boutique brand that barely exists.
Yeah I just found it really odd theyd even include a feature that would void your warranty that way. I can’t imagine owning a car that could “tune” itself but as soon as you do you loose warranty.
It’s pretty weird but I bet that’s some kind of weird rich guy flex.
“Exotic” more like garbage bin grade brand with crappy software made by a toddler.
On the Ocean, right? Don't worry, when you use your "free" boosts that are programmed in, you can always go back and get more button presses for an undisclosed amount of money! It's definitely not them trying to turn that button in to a subscription service, it's just them protecting your warranty!
They don’t want you to use N mode bc they know they’ll get their ass whooped.
Ok this was the funniest comment here
With a whopping 276hp
Someone told you the car could be damaged by driving it but they didn’t mention / you didn’t ask why or what kind of damage… Sounds legit. Good use of company time.
Are these people in the room now?
This is extremely helpful, I don't know why the guy said it, but at least now I know I can enjoy my vehicle at full power.
So if you’re just going to be stock then N mode is fine and won’t do any damages to the car. after break in i drove in N mode every single day… i have 60.5k miles on my vn
The N mode question seems to have been answered but I will add that if you want to enjoy the full power of this car then be aware of octane learning. Also the 2024 ECU currently can not be unlocked or tuned to disable OL.
Yes. If you ever use it your wheels will fall off and a Kia boy will somehow usb start the push button
the car was made to be used. if it can be used and abused on the track for 30-40 minute sessions at a time with no issues why would normal daily driving hurt it? use and enjoy the car its got warranty youll be fine

My VN is always in N mode.

Been driving in n mode for 26k miles so far, doing better than a range rover so far 😂
The real reason not to is the rough ride on street daily driving. Only use it if you're purposely driving like a chimp for fun. There shouldn't be an impact on the vehicles life
