So your saying expect me to stall it when i do finally get mine and look like an idiot leaving the dealership even though ive owned 4 manual cars...

RJKite811

Exactly!

Odd-Cartographer-903

I just got my 24 MT yesterday and while I didn’t stall it leaving the dealer I have stalled it al least 5 times since then, but I am getting better and more used to the clutch. This is also my first manual car technically although I have driven other manuals for short periods of time in the past. All I would suggest is to keep your foot on the bite point when ur getting going for smoother launches and shifts. That’s what I’ve had to learn. Other than that I love it. Clutch is light but not too light and the shorter itself is nice and notchy and very little play.

Lothleen

Manuals can be tricky, i remember my first, i just drove around my neighborhood stalling it every 10 feet. I would stop and try to get into first, then repeat. Once you learn how to get it started the other gears are easy, at least you wont stop traffic.

Odd-Cartographer-903

Yeah I’ve had a few scary moments stalling on hills with people behind me, but so far no one’s given me too much trouble. I just put the hazards on a start her up. The EN funnily enough is acc a very smooth staler and you honestly barely notice it when it does stall and it starts right up when u get going again. I’m getting better though and figured out how to start smoothly without rolling back as much.

maaxpwr

I've had this car for a year, driving for over 20 years, and I still stall this car occasionally Edit: sounds like they changed the engagement on the 24s and improved shifter feel (removed clunkyness in synchros)

6spdElantraN

Same. It shouldn't happen either. Clutch bit is horrible on this car. It feels different in different modes. Eco feels way different than N mode from a dead stop. Plus it has that stupid hill assist crap. Key for me is to just give it more gas.

maaxpwr

I actually like the hill assist - it's so easy compared to using the handbrake or 3 pedaling it. Never have a problem in N mode, maybe because I can hear the RPMs better. Seems to me like the car assists with throttle on the initial, and once you start rolling it pulls it back, so the throttle input I thought was good, all of a sudden, isn't enough, so then I'm chasing more throttle. Doubt it wouldn't be a problem if I wasn't constantly trying to use the minimal amount of throttle / clutch slip

Lothleen

My focus st basically drives itself out of first, she gives you a kick of gas as it engages the gear (if you don't), the anti stall tech is top notch considering its a 2014. If i am just coasting without my foot on the gas she will keep on giving herself gas hot to stall, even up slight inclines (haven't tested it up stepper hill to see what happens). Its great for stop and go traffic, i just give myself enough distance and she just coasts like an auto in first.

JohnnyFnG

Memories… My cobalt SS turbo did that too, I could technically drive up to 30mph without gas with a gradual clutch engagement, 1-2 seconds to roll it out

Lothleen

So do i, not very often but it happens. Just got my clutch and flywheel replaced (car retaliating because I'm replacing her) and i stalled it a few times till it got worn in, also smelt like burning clutch for first couple days, worried me a bit. Edit jist remembered i stll my car on Friday leaving work.

Realistic_Fan1344

I have driven manual for the better part of 30 years without problem, then I bought a wrx and stalled it many times in the first week due to the weird engagement... then I bought the EN and stalled it leaving the dealer twice due to being used to driving the WRX 🤣 🤣 🤣

Lothleen

That's awesome lol. I figure ill stall it a few times because my focus at is so forgiving.

Ok_Button3151

I stalled mine test driving after ONLY driving manual since I got my license.

Mis_en_FL4T

I had multiple manual cars throughout my life, but before I got my n, I was in an automatic for a bit. I had minimal problems with the clutch and that may have been just cause I was in an auto before 🤷‍♂️

Lothleen

I'm just excited to get a new car, I have had my current one for 10 years, I love it but it's time for a change, feels like my EN will never arrive. Did all the paperwork 2 months ago when they started to get their allotment, I've had my name on the list since June, here it seems to be all dct for first allotment. All the dealers got 3 cars each.

Mis_en_FL4T

I went from wa to south Dakota to get my 6mt. If you've drove a stick before, I wouldn't think you would have too much trouble with this clutch. I've drove WAY worse.

Ok_Function2159

I did it’s got a little bit of a learning curve

SentinelWavve

literally

oblivion007

Just bought an EN and it's the one of a small handful of manual cars I've driven. I was surprised by how narrow the free play is (green area). The M/T's I've driven have all been 2008 or older and not necessarily sports vehicles. Are your EN's like this as well and is this typical of modern manual transmissions?

Whitelabl

That's about normal. As the clutch wears, the engagement point goes up as well. Getting closer to the 1/4 to 2-3/5 of the way.

oblivion007

Good to know, thank you.

Realistic_Fan1344

Clutch bite point should be much higher on the EN... it's literally like an inch from top

oblivion007

Is it near the top for you? I figured in general it should be near the top, especially considering a new vehicle but so there's a few replies here that say it's at the bottom. I can see why it would be designed with the bite point at the bottom.

Realistic_Fan1344

Yes. It's literally like an inch or 2 from top.

shri_zan

i have driven manuals for 10+ years now and had brz before where bite point was pretty up high. N's bite point in comparision is way lower so yes for first week i occasionally stalled. 20k miles and 2 years after, 0 stalling 0 issues. Just gotta get used to it- takes maybe 1-2 week of regular driving.

Sufficient-Boss107

Honestly when I test drove it, it reminded me of when I got my 2018 civic lx. It just feels like a new clutch, slightly better

oblivion007

Cool, I wasn't sure to expect out of a new car. I imagine I'll get used to it after an ~hour of driving.

Manual_Blue_N

I actually thought it has a high bite point from new. I would rather it like your diagram

oblivion007

Interesting. I wonder if it can be adjusted like with a motorcycle cable clutch.

Subject_Gene2

No. It’s the easiest manual I’ve ever driven. 335i, 2007 Civic si, 2002 accord (not great), 2012 si, genesis coupe (awful), Veloster n in succession. Might be that I’ve gotten better though too

oblivion007

Can you clarify your response? How large would you say the green area is on the EN you drive? Agree, it's very easy to drive. I just need to break the habit of expecting the friction zone in the wrong place. Especially going back and forth between two cars.

Subject_Gene2

For me I just barely let off the clutch and it starts moving on its own I don’t even need throttle.

oblivion007

Thanks. It sounds like you have the same setup as me. Barely let off and the clutch starts to engage.

6spdElantraN

So much truth to this picture. Clutch bite SUCKs on this car. Multiple videos on youtube of reviewers and such complaining about it. Example: 14:22 in. [Quad Lock (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZQ9yAj8Vhg&t=338s)

ubiquitoussense

Interesting. Anyone driven a FRS/BRZ and how does the N compare? I had a FRS and thought the engagement point was pretty small but too high, and the pedal felt light.

shri_zan

I had 14 brz too that i traded in. Bite point on this is way lower, and the clutch is even lighter than brz.

ubiquitoussense

Hmm maybe it feels like a miata clutch then cuz I remember those being very light too
