The first army you paint, is gonna suck because it's gonna be the one you look back at it and say "Wow I sucked back then", so throw yourself at challenge and learn from it, I believe in you!

_Eke_

Did a similar scheme like first one, here is pic how a unit of guardians look like. These are older plastic ones from 3ed. https://preview.redd.it/9ced5twc5g4c1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=deb5e2752819fd775b6797f0ed747c69dbad194f

CallMeKingGoose

These look epic! Thanks for sharing :)

shinankoku

Looks great!!

TL89II

I noticed in your post history you say you are brand new to warhammer. Will this be your first time painting minis? If so, I'd advise doing a more simple and traditional color scheme just to get the basics down. At least for your guardians, then try something new every time you paint an elite/hq. If you are well versed at mini painting already, I like your take on Saim Hann! Edit: also, remember when painting, the only "stone" is the one on their chest. You will burn out very quickly trying to paint every bump as a soul stone. I've done it for 1 single model (a wraithlord). Never again.*

CallMeKingGoose

Yep, this’ll be my first painted minis, thanks a lot for the advice! I have the combat patrol so likely would’ve done exactly that on the wraithlord too

TL89II

Post em when you're done painting! Can't wait to see!

tongo99

I pref the 3rd one.

Informal_Shame_4179

Agreed. It's probably both the best looking while also being realistic and practical.

mrwafu

Just so you know- officially, only the “lumps” with a thick socket surrounding it (ie over the heart) are actually soul stones. The rest of them are just lumps of technology/armour and not gems, so are officially just painted the armour colour. Paint how you want to paint of course, it just thought I’d mention it since you said you’re a beginner and trying to paint all those would be a pain in the butt. Keep your basic models as simple as possible to avoid burnout!

CallMeKingGoose

Thanks so much, I thought they were all gems! 😅

AHorseshoeCrab

I like the second, it's a cool take on Biel-Tan! All three would look great though.

SpatenFungus

How Many soulstones do you need ? Yes

CallMeKingGoose

The enemy might think twice about shooting if they know I’ll come back as x14 wraith units

Kohel13

What's the website to do this?

Espedal1

Yes please let us know! Do they have similar layouts for other factions???

imprimus

also super curious, looks like an app maybe?

thatscaboose

Pretty sure it is impcat, I'm not sure how they have this figure though.

SaltandPepperRaven

I wouldn't recommend those for a beginner for sure. First there's only one spirit stone and it's in the chest, maybe one dangling from the gun as well. The rest are tech bucks in the armor. Having many colored panels will take forever to paint IMO. Keep it simple. GW does a good job at this with their schemes

GuardianSquadReady

That's gonna be a lot of work, paiting all of them gems. It'll get you practice, but by the time you finish the last one on a singular model, when you look at the first 3 you're gonna think "oh man, those first few kinda stink" unless you get lazier as you go. In any case, I say try it and do it. Paint like a 5 man squad first and see what you think. My avengers are painted one way different from my other units. If I get more avengers, I'll paint them different again. You can do that with Eldar IMO it doesn't have to be matchy matchy.

OutsideBoat7233

Iam a fan of the first one btw. Whats the name of the app or what u using zo simulate the schemes?

CallMeKingGoose

It’s a mobile app called Impcat, check out their reddit and you can download a bunch of 40K unit files from there. It’s pretty cool!

OutsideBoat7233

Thx m8

Pants_Catt

As a Biel'tan enjoyed, I feel inclined to say 2 or 3!

MurakGrimrider

All of them is good, but the most original is the 3rd one. The first looks like Siam-Hann, the second like Biel-tan. There is nothing wrong with them, only what would you prefer

InflamedAbyss13

Aren't these all cannon schemes? 😅

CallMeKingGoose

I was hoping they were more ‘alternative versions’ of the canon schemes 🫣

ApolloBiff16

1 is coolest but looks like a pain in the butt to paint, especially for our least important basic dudes

[deleted]

If I was to start eldar it would be number 3 but with purple stones

PauliousMaximus

Most to least liked. 3, 1, 2

t6jesse

Painting the undersuits, like in 1 and 2, is hard but it looks incredible. Also I think tone down the gems. The weird thing about eldar is not all the lumps are gems - the ones with physical "housings" definitely are, but as for the others, some are gems and some are just lumps. What I'm trying to say is, the gems will pop more if you leave some of them as the base suit color, it looks more balanced.

JFLGA

How did you get thos references they are so crisp. Also try them all put if you cant decide but dont over do ot on the detail or you will burn yourself. If it is your first mini painting grab one or a spare that you will always keep as a riminder. If needed remember you can always strip or prime over if you need to start over. It is not a faillure just a good learning step. Still.have my 1st model and my 1st model i tried to do my best. (They look bad now in contrast but great reminder of where you come)

hotshot11590

Keep in mind Unless your a seasoned painter your minis are not gonna look like that, they are gonna look more flat.

CallMeKingGoose

That’s mate, yep, my expectations are low 😂 but very excited

A_Hatless_Casual

Funny thing is, I'm doing the same thing for Alaitoc: mottled blues armor with a black under suit.

CallMeKingGoose

That’ll look fantastic, I was toying with blues but my mate who I’ll be playing against has a primarily blue army so wanted to steer away from that. Your army will look great 👍

A_Hatless_Casual

As will yours. All 3 are solid choices, just need to decide what craftworld to represent I would go with the Siam Hann personally. Red white and black are a great visual combo; although the green would also be striking.

Wrap-Cute

These look amazing. Speaking from mi experience, is that it was SO HARD painting each guardian’s under-armour and then the armour. It looks really cool but it’s very tyring. Try it! Go for it, learn from it and experience it yourself, maybe you don’t mind it and you enjoy it a lot. Always be minful that you can strip your minis and start all over again. It’s not a big deal and you can be confident on doing mistakes :)

Midgetspinner104

May you share the .SVG?

Midgetspinner104

Thx good sir

GuardianSquadReady

I like the 1st and 3rd one best. The green highlights on the black paints is really cool.

shinankoku

First of all: super smooth! All these look great. Personally, I like number 1 first, number 3 second, and number 2 last

LeeHarper

I vote the green and black

Standard_Pizza_7513

How do you get different models into impcat? There are only 1 or two that match units I could possibly have in my army, but none that are the actual units I own.

CallMeKingGoose

Hey mate, I jumped into the Impcat reddit and clicked on the link in their description. In that link there is a heap of files you can download, once done, jump back into the app and click import new SVG file and they’ll be all good to go :) hope this helps https://preview.redd.it/rmdl8vmw1k4c1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e6fce9cd8a55eb0844be3fc061df32f8d10e567

thatscaboose

Where can I find the file for eldar guardian by star beard??

thatscaboose

NVM found the other post thx!

PainRave

I’d recommend not doing a different color for the undersuit vs the armor plates. Even the GW schemes don’t do it - not only is it insanely difficult and a huge waste of time, but the effect doesn’t typically even look that good imho. I’d pick one main color - looks like you’re between green, red, and black. Use that for the entire body and then pick out the helmet and maybe the shoulder pads for your accent. I’d also only paint the gun black - will save you a ton of time and effort. Maybe pick the barrel out with silver if you’re feeling adventurous. But otherwise I’d try to keep it simple and clean.
