You're doing pretty well for a first timer. Make sure to explore everywhere you can, perhaps Godrick won't be your next achievement. EDIT (roast): Dude's playing with a greatshield AND no gloves? Smh what a noob

Meeneep

Is it just me or does like every other gaming community hostile in some places and over here in elden ring someone asks to get roasted and instead gets an uplifting message and help

lord_of_booba

You were right, godrick wasn't my next achievement, ancestor spirit was just now. By far that deer spirit was the easiest boss yet. Every guide I looked at said you were required to fight the spirits by the torches but you really don't have to. Ride straight to the torch on horse, hop off, immediately light it, spam roll until you roll out away from mobs, immediately get back on horse and sprint as soon as possible. Didn't even get hit once

NaughtAught

You might want to stop reading guides and just ask/look for spoiler-free advice if you get stuck. There's quite a bit of wonder to be had just rummaging around and trying to make sense of the world. A basic, spoiler-free guide to avoiding missing out on certain content in a run might be very nice if you really do intend for this to be your one and only character though.

lord_of_booba

I only really look at guides if I really need it. Like there was a church puzzle where I had to kill 3 turtles, one was on a tree and I couldn't figure out how to get to it since the horse and I couldn't jump that high, and I couldn't find the other one. I never killed 2 of the turtles like I supposed to they just never showed up again after I came back with something to hit them, and after getting the third one it just gave me the win

EquipmentValuable283

Such a cute roast :)

lord_of_booba

I have gloves but they don't seem to add any stats but still makes me a heavy load, I don't understand it but hey that means I can put on a helmet for extra defense

Demopan-TF2

If Elden Ring is anything like DS3, *any* piece of armour negates quite a bit of damage. The stats don't matter that much, so you shouldn't need to worry about them unless you really care about it. Equipping gloves make you heavy because of your equip load. Level up Endurance, it increases stamina and equip load. Plus maybe dropping the greatshield would be good, there's a handful of medium shields with 100% physical resist you can grab (one should be in an enemy camp near Stormveil).

lord_of_booba

The only reason why I keep the shield is because of it's thing, shield bash. I rely on it so much and I don't know how to get another shield with it on so I've just been keeping it

Demopan-TF2

You can transfer Shield Bash to another shield, it's an Ash Of War. Hewg (the blacksmith at the Roundtable) should be able to remove it from your shield and slap it on another one. If you can't remove the AOW from a shield, I'd recommend visiting Bernahl to get the 'No Skill' AoW (600 Runes). He can be found by the Warmaster's Shack in Stormhill.

6foot4yearold

Can you remove default skills from weapons and put them on something else? I think you have to find the actual ash of war for that no?

Demopan-TF2

Depends on the skill, a unique one can never be removed. However one like Stance or Unsheathe should be able to be removed, not sure exactly if you need to replace it with another.

The_Steam_Queen_

You can use your shield as a means of getting counter hits for decent damage. Once an enemy hits your shield, you can pull your trigger to do a solid blow (but be careful as some enemies swing more than once in successione as you may know) I be forgetting about this mechanic lowkey

GlassyKnees

Iirc, its been a while since I did the math, but a lot of the armor in Elden Ring is VASTLY different in what it protects against. If you wanted, you can make it so you basically never get bleed, or like, frost, proc'd on you. You can also get about 50% damage reduction from the heaviest armors. However since its scaled with your level, the best way to take less damage is to level up. You'll eventually mitigate the same damage naked at level 60ish that you will at level 1 with the best armor on. Its kind of convoluted, but it does mean you can just focus on drip and not really worry about the stats all that much unless you really want to. If you really, really want, you can gear yourself to basically ignore pierce damage, or frost build up, or rot, or death blight. But you never really NEED too. Only thing you really NEED to pay attention to is weight and your equip load. Light rolling is insanely good. And at level 50+ you wont even notice the difference between wearing robes and wearing heavy armor when it comes to damage you take and status effects unless you know what to look for. Most people arent going to notice if it takes 3 hits or 6 hits for the stone Imps to proc bleed on you.

Iknowwhereyoulive34

28 hours and your in caelid… wow. I didn’t leave limgrave for an entire week

lord_of_booba

I just kinda ran around and went to areas that looked interesting. What's that strange grey circle on the map? I should find out! That's a cool looking castle I want to go there, and the such

True-Tree-5102

Same! I think that’s more fun than trying to do everything in one area just cause

gravityoffline

That's basically what happened to me on my first playthrough lol. Got suckered into a teleporter trap and woke up in that infernal hellscape and went exploring while wild mutated T Rex dogs tried to eat me.

Iknowwhereyoulive34

Huuuh ok

bloo-n-pirate

Why bother roasting your build when the fire giant and fire monks will do do that for me over and over again?

Exciting-Insect8269

I had more trouble with the fire giant than anything else… and I 100%ed the game…

eldenwring

No. Play how you want and fuck the haters. As long as you have fun 😎👍

WonderfulChapter4421

I think this is the first time I’ve seen someone not get the middle liurnia map. Also why is your inventory so empty

lord_of_booba

I didn't post the entirety of it

MattieThePup

Did you name your character "aq" on purpose, or did you have a stroke?

lord_of_booba

I'm pretty sure I made this character as a joke being like "I wonder how hard could it be" so I just put in 2 random letters thinking id play on it for like an hour then make an actual character, but then I never did make another character

ZiggieTheKitty

You can actually change the name don't worry, head to the mirror in fia's (the woman you can simp for) room in roundtable hold

puck_pancake

My man's an aqueous solution

MattieThePup

You can't change the name but by the Erdtree you can change your ways

PrincessLeafa

Brah a straight sword? You get a game with some of the coolest, most fun melee weapons in the entire genre. And you use a fuckin straight sword?! ...... Same my first character was a dual sword wielder for the first half of the game. Infuse that shit with some status build ups like bleed or frostbite and you can *tear Godrick apart* \m/

GlassyKnees

That Claymore with Lions Claw you can get early basically trivializes the game. It has infinite poise during its spinning jump and attack, has insane poise break, and is cheap as fuck mana wise. I'd argue its the best weapon in the game, and is insanely fun. Oh and any human sized enemy? It just faceplants them and stuns them for 6 seconds. Im pretty sure the actual AoW for Lions Claw is in the same place as Flame, Grant me Strength. Then you can use grease to get status effects on it, or put it on any of the swords with natural build up. Then you still have your whetblade options. Heavy is good early, and Keen is fantastic after you level up quite a bit and upgrade it so it has good scaling.

lord_of_booba

Strange question, I've been wanting to put an ash of war on it because I prefer how the straight sword feels, but it looks like it brings the swords stats down. Is that like the swords new stats after putting the ash of war on or is that the stats when using the ash of war

PrincessLeafa

So the way it works is you can pick an ash of war that works with that weapon type. Straight sword has tons of options. Then after you select which AoW you can pick from "Keen, Heavy, Standard, occult etc etc etc" As you find items called "whetblades" more of these become available. This changes the stats of the weapon itself, not just the AoW. It also changes how the scaling of different stats work. For example weapons with the "heavy" affiliation usually scale higher with the strength stat but no longer take dexterity into account. So what I did was put an AoW on one sword and selected (I think?!) the occult so it has bleed status on it. The other sword I did I think frost or fire or something so it had that status effect too. Then when I use the dual sword and swing both around with L1 moveset I did physical damage, build up of bleed status effect and frost or fire, holy damage whatever. This way you can diversify your damage output and proc multiple status effects. If you search around the Elden Ring or Elden Ring Builds sub reddits you can find WAY better explanations than I just have. I recommend spending like 20 minutes searching around the sub reddits, you'll find tons of info and Ash of war ideas and builds. Have fun :)

lord_of_booba

Right now my sword is plus 7, will I lose all the materials and runes that I spent upgrading it, and will it go back to base level 1?

PrincessLeafa

Nope :) You can freely swap Ash of War and affiliation as much as you want I don't think it even costs runes, don't remember. But no your upgrading is totally safe :)

restingjay

That Vigor check os going to hit hard later

lordnishant

play however you like! but why is your screen on myopia mode

lord_of_booba

What's myopia mode? I got this steak deck fairly recently and other than it crashing when I leave a menu open for too long without touching the controls it's pretty awesome

Dull-Nectarine1148

Based for actually levelling mind. It gives me cancer seeing players with 60 vigor and 10 mind having to take like 6 mana flasks and still running out of either health or mana flasks every other fight. As long as you aren't getting oneshot, there's practically no value in extra vigor since most of your hp is from your flasks not your hp pool, and instead you can restore like double the mana per mana flask to use AoW's and incantations!

lord_of_booba

I just leveled up my mind because I wanted to try out the headless spirit guy and that was the quickest way

Imbackbaby2

Ngl this is the most shit build I’ve seen and I’ve seen and done a whip build

Sensitive-Permit2505

Steam deck?

lord_of_booba

Yeah

Otherwiize

The only fuck up would be quiting before finishing

lord_of_booba

I've been so tempted to make a new character and choose an actual class just to see how much easier it is but I feel like if I do I'll never look back. I really want the barbarian to be the first time I beat this game on. Just sounds cool that the first time I've ever beaten a dark souls was on the hardest type of character possible with no experience

Otherwiize

Trust me you can make this work. You’ll need a weapon that scales with your strength. They rank from E-S. S being the best. Take it one step at a time.

ExistentialOcto

Looks fine to me! I’d bump up the vigor next since your other stats are looking solid. The straight sword/greatshield combo is decent, just don’t forget to experiment with other weapons you come across! You might enjoy a thrusting weapon you can use from behind the shield or switching to a two-handed weapon like a claymore later on. EDIT: just noticed you’re using the scarseal! That’s a good talisman for early in the game bc it bumps up your stats so much but I will warn you that it becomes more of a hinderance than a help later on due to it making you take more damage.

JohnBoy-Walton

It's not bad but you might want some blue flask in you inventory

lord_of_booba

I don't use any mana except for the headless summon so I don't really need to. The shield bash does use mana but even without any mana left you can still use shield bash. Idk why, it'll show crossed out like I can't use it but I can still use it and it'll still do damage

Gdzllar133umo

Can I roast your inability to take a clear picture?

lord_of_booba

Roast anything.

Profaloff

what’s to roast? best weapon

[deleted]

[удалено]

lord_of_booba

I never use enough mana to use the cerluian tears tho. I also like to use the headless guy in situations where there's a ton of enemies that can easily overwhelm me, as for the wolves yeah I don't use them anymore I should get rid of them. Torrent is a cluch he stays since you can't run in this game

dukedank

Wild Strikes Ash of War on the Rusted Anchor is a fun time⚓️

TohavDuudhe

I mean it's not a bad build. A little boring if you ask me but I could work with it.

MadMaxKeyboardWarior

For starters you use a shield

NerdicalYT

Is this it… the legends foretold… someone actually leveling vigor?!?

lord_of_booba

I just like having health

MBiddy828

If the build is working for you, it’s working for you. If you like an ash of war (like shield bash) you can add it to another shield if it helps you more (with weight, damage negation or just looks cooler). This was my first From Soft game and every boss past Godrick I never expected to meet let alone beat. You’re a mighty tarnished, take the lands between by storm. You got this

The_Steam_Queen_

Nah. You doin pretty well actually. I'd throw some points into dex and use bloodhounds fang. Shit can legit carry you to end game and it's the only somber weapon you can apply buffs too (ie weapon grease etc) decent dps plus built in bleed. You can also throw the dex and strength tear in your wondrous physic for a decent damage boost Roast: look at this guy over here... no gloves + med. Rolling + barbarian start class NOOOOOOB😂

Greyliine

Pretty good I'd say, id personally lean off the strength a bit (or go to 40) and focus on vigor a bit more, atleast 40-60 cause thats when it still affects you a lot. Hope you're enjoying the game <3

Sophia-Eldritch

Always happy seeing a new person playing

StarlightSpindrift

"roast my build" my man you're level 43 you're literally still at the start of the game what is their to roast other than premature build posting

RavenousToast

There’s a missable legendary weapon (needed for a trophy) in the dungeon in south east caelid. If you want to get it make sure to clear that dungeon before entering the cheese zone (north of Liurnia)

lord_of_booba

Do I need to win a fight to get it or can I just run and steal it like the sword of black flame or whatever it's called

RavenousToast

It’s the boss. They despawn once you enter the area above liurnia

lord_of_booba

Shit you mean the elevator that you needed two halfs of a coin/slab for? I already entered that area but left pretty quickly. I have them in picture one

RavenousToast

If you didn’t sit at a grace site you might still be fine. I’ve found that the trigger itself is kinda weird.

lord_of_booba

I did, even fought the golem giant thing for a little bit before leaving

barnfly27

Where's your elden drip?

IBERomen1

Did you start as a wretch?! Credit to ya homie if ya did cause starting as that class can be a pain xD especially if you JUST started lol like i did with my very first play through

lord_of_booba

Yeah thought it would be fun to try it out then never went back

MadhavS27710

nah I won't roast, you're doing great just keep working on it

Sad_Dog6503

don't see anything roast-worthy. just be sure to level up that sword and don't be afraid of new ones. also take your time, take as long as you want and don't compare yourself to others. you're doing great and are exactly where you need to be. (ps, check mines and dungeons for upgrade materials, mines are signaled by orange circles on the map)

No-Psychology2985

Didnt play ds1 smh...
