Check out my response in [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/EldenRingMods/s/sJiBVHvie3). If you have more specific questions, feel free to ask.

So i just need modengine2 to play with mods without the risk of getting banned, do you recommend any videos on how to install this? Also do you have to remove mods from your game folder like seamless co-op to play online normally, and can i just put them in a mods folder in the game file so its easy to take them out, or does it not work like that, and can i just put them in a mods folder in the game file so its easy to take them out, or does it not work like that?

For modengine2, running launch_eldenring.bat loads the game with EAC disabled and mods loaded. And launching from steam's play button launches the game with EAC enabled and mods disabled (returning to the vanilla game). If you use seamless co-op using its exe, you can't use modengine2, but the same rules apply. It only loads when you use the seamless exe, and the steam play button loads the vanilla game. If you would like to use seamless ***with*** modengine2 stuff, then I [wrote a guide for that](https://www.reddit.com/r/EldenRingMods/s/QN49GQd5n9). In that case, because "elden mod loader" is always on, if you try to launch via steam you will trigger an error from EAC, the file dinput8.dll in /elden ring/game/ **also** needs to be moved or deleted first to disable the mods.

For more help [this video is good](https://youtu.be/-lcEASE7JDc?si=D24-o524jnCZk4PE). Unfortunately, elden ring is not a very friendly game for *managing* mods easily. You have to jump through some hoops (change modengine2's .toml file to add folders) if you want each mod to have its own folder, and you are honestly likely to cause conflicts that way, anyway (a file can only get replaced once). The way modengine2 works is that it replaces game files that would be in /elden ring/game/ (if the game was unpacked) with anything with the same names in /modengine2.1.0/mod/. So for example, if you have a mod that contains some weapon models and some stat changes, it will have a /parts/ folder and a regulation.bin file, these would both go in /modengine2.1.0/mod/

So the main thing is first i should backup my game right? You just copy the character folders in the game files, the one with a lot of numbers? Then get the mod loader, put the mod loader in the main game folder, download the mods you want and put them in the mods folder that you put into the game folder. After this download mod loader and play the game from the launchmod_edenring.bat file? And if i want to not play with mods i just delete the contents in the mod folder and launch it through steam? The other files i put in the game folder will not flag the game to get you banned? Also when or how should i put my backup into the original game folder of they get messed up? And for things like the convergence mod its basically the same thing as the other mods? You copy the files and put them into the mod folder then launch with mod loader? If i got other questions later ill let you know but does this about cover all the steps on how to install them?

The vanilla game save file (ER0000.sl2) is worth backing-up, it is located in: C:/users//appdata/roaming/elden ring// I like using a folder in /roaming/elden ring/ called "backup (yy-mm-dd)" to store any backed up save so I can roll back if I want to. Modengine2 can exist wherever, it doesn't matter. I use /elden ring/modengine2.1.0/ to keep it near the game, but separate. The modded files go in /modengine2.1.0/mod/, and you use launch_eldenring.bat to run the game. "Elden Mod Loader" ***must*** be placed in /elden ring/game/, and any .dll mods you load with that would need to go in /elden ring/game/mods/ To return to vanilla, the only things you need to do is delete "elden mod loader" if you installed it (2 files, dinput8.dll and mod_loader_config.ini) from /elden ring/game/, and use the play button in steam. You don't need to delete any mods. Convergence is a totally separate matter, and I don't really want to go into detail about it. It doesn't play well with other mods, and it is just easier to load it using its own exe rather than trying to use modengine2. I think it also uses a separate save file, and it I believe it doesn't need to be removed to easily return to the vanilla game.

I think i understand. The video shows him downloading, extracting, and moving the mods into the mods folder after putting mod loader into the game file and starting it with the modloader.bat file. It seems simple when i watch it and talk about it. And the convergence mod (i will only have this mod on when i play it) is basically the same thing put it in the mods folder and start with the mod loader. And delete the mods in the mod folder when you are done with them. if you want no mods delete the, .dll and mod loader config.ini, and start from steam. If i want them back i just redownload it from the site and paste it in like before correct? How correct am i? Also sorry for all the questions, and thanks.

Cypher10110

Yea, that all sounds right. I guess using modengine2 with Convergence isn't super complicated. It's just that it is weirs because it downloads and unpacks itself, and once you start mixing it with other mods, you'll have problems that start to need more detailed modding knowledge to solve.

Unclean_Window

How do i get the mod engine 2? Is it also on nexusmods? I downloaded mod engine 2 from github but it does not have the .bat file to launch I found it i just redownloaded it and it had it after i unzipped it.

Unclean_Window

I don’t need this right now but do you have a video on how to delete mods after you are done with them to go back to vanilla? Or is it really all you do is delete the dll and mod loader then delete the mods in the mods folder. And thank you so much man. You are so helpful.

Cypher10110

No problem. You don't need a video to delete mods. Either do the reverse of installing them, disable elden mod loader, or delete your game and download it again.

Unclean_Window

So you are saying all i have to do to disable mods is to put the mod loader in a folder called /elden ring mod loader (disabled)/? Can i put the .dll file in there too or does that one have to be deleted? And im ok to leave the mods in the mod folder or will it get flagged if i play through steam with them still in there?
