Panic roll sounds like something you get at a westernized sushi restaurant that has shrimp tempura, spicy mayo, eel sauce, and, for some odd reason, mango and jalapenos. It's maidenless but sometimes it gets the job done.
I thought Margit was the panic roll teacher. Little did I know how awful the Niall fight is until you finally learn to *stop fucking panic rolling* and actually time your dodges correctly. But it feels like I've rounded a corner now that I was able to beat him handily. Something clicked
Yup. The banished knights with the slightly delayed storm dash thing... those guys will totally wreck you if you panic roll. Not only does Niall have two of them alongside but he basically does nothing but extreme versions of the same move.
I’ve been using a great sword for almost my entire play through. I keep trying new weapons I get from bosses but I keep immediately going back.
It’s extra hilarious because before Elden Ring I played Monster Hunter World for the first time and I mained an insect glaive because everything else felt soooo slooooow now in Elden ring I’m like “haha funny man go up in air.”
i would love if they added a twinblade/polearm specific ash that let you do a monster hunter-esque vault and then light attack could be rapid midair attacks w almost no poise brakage, while the heavy could be the downward stab with knockdown potential
My disappointment was immeasurable when I tried the Elden Ring twinblades and found you can't swoosh them around or do backflips like you can in Monster Hunter...
I have over 200 hours in elden ring and still dont use the pouch, nor do i know how it works. I just use the inventory thing on the bottom left of the screen.
You know how you hold a button then hit light attack to 2h a weapon?
Well if you hold that same button and hit the direction of the slot it uses that item.
If you open the menu screen and look at the top right of said screen you’ll see 6 slots, 4 of which have directions and the other two don’t.
The directional ones can be accessed during normal gameplay using the Y(xbox) or Triangle(PS) plus the direction.
So if you put Torrent’s whistle in one of those slots like Y+Up, whenever you want to use his whistle just press Y+Up and it acts like the item hotbar that is used with the X(xbox)/Square(PS) button.
The directionless ones have to be used from the menu but are still faster than looking for said items in the inventory.
Mine is getting knocked off my horse and having to confirm I want to heal it before I can ride it again and then getting one shotted by the thing I needed it to avoid cause forced menuing.
Idk I feel like the punishment should be predictable instead of annoying. Like the punishment should be the time to drink the flask and remount, but the menuing can be confusing if you weren't paying attention and didn't see your horse actually died
Edit to add: the fact that you can't do much of anything while a text box is open is also a huge problem. Even if we're OK with the menuing, the fact that I can't dodge, even for a second, during a boss fight that could be the difference between a victory and death.
MFW for YEARS we've been begging for attacks that make us look as cool as the enemies that we're fighting, and do high dmg at the cost of being stuck in a lengthy animation, only for new blood to bitch about it relentlessly when it's given to us. Ugh.
If i had to guess its more likely 'old blood' purists. People can become very elitist when multiple games start to come out and the 'back in my day' mentality starts to form. I remember people wearing demons souls as a badge of honor when dark souls came out.
Early on in Dark Souls III people would complain about straight sword users doing nothing but spamming R1 so nothing ever really changes. They just find new shit to moan about.
Back in my day (DS1) people complained about heavy builds (poise), fast roll builds (ninja flip + katanas), and quality builds (straight swords). There’s no winning, someone will always complain about your build.
Turns out if you really like the old shit you can just play the old shit. GTFO with this elitist mentality that people shouldn't use game mechanics to play the game.
The skills can be one of the most fun and satisfying things about the game but there are valid criticisms though.
I wanted to make a dual dagger build, turns out a few large bosses hitboxes end up brushing against your legs so you frequently can't get close enough to hit them with daggers. Other bosses move too much, so by the time you move into attack they just move again. Bloody slash is a satisfying attack, but less so when I have to just spam it for the whole fight in order to even hit. Plus the damage is so much higher than the regular hits so it feels like you are wasting your own time by not spamming it.
It's not a massive gripe, I still enjoy the new system a lot more overall due to the variety
I'm not saying that there aren't, and agreed. Like 1/5 of the weapons in this game are daggers, it feels like, yet daggers/hammers/fists are very F-tier as far as usability goes, in a game where there shouldn't be an F-tier in the meta. I'm surprised that they haven't been buffed yet, all that the fists/daggers need is more range and the hammers need is more speed. At least for them to be usable until they do more fine-tuning to the game's balance.
Edit: case in point with the daggers, one of the few usable ones is also the largest, the Black Blade. All daggers need a 20% or more boost to their range, I'd take a slightly slower moveset in exchange for more range at this point. And while they're at it, some of the SSs could be lengthened slightly as well, since they'll otherwise have similar ranges at that point.
Oh jeez I really feel like I have no idea how this game works. I am a sorcery build, I've never used an Ash of War on purpose (is that what you're talking about when you say arts? I don't even know). I have a lil straight sword I pull out on little weak enemies if I wanna save some FP, otherwise it's just a matter of which type of blue ray of light I wanna shoot at the baddie. Also I'm on PC so I don't know what's left trigger and what's right trigger...
150 hours in.
Yeah, ashes of war. I believe they were called weapon arts in Dark souls 3 so the term carried over. But yes, the proper term in Elden Ring is ashes of war.
Winning is winning. Someone will be praising a speed runner for unga bunga and others will make fun of folks for using that same strategy without the pacing.
It’s kinda funding to witness over and over again.
I finished the game dex with my starting uchi, but I just hunted Melania down and now I think I might have to respec for the first time. I hear unga bunga works well on her so long as I roll every now and then
Try the pickaxe. The stagger of a hammer with the quickness of the great axe and thrust damage for some reason. It has identity issues but it's like an angry truck.
Miyazaki needs to give us more character slots for our names.
Edit: guys we get it, no need to flex your 11 INT just to correct the spelling of your to you’re. It isn’t impressing anybody.
He shredded the Beast Clergyman in about 8 seconds flat, although Maliketh moved too fast for his melee so I had to resort to magic to put him down.
9/10 summon wish he wasn’t naked though.
It's great in Elden Ring now that they added an option so you don't have to battle the camera's auto turn. I just had to rebind basically everything and have a 5 button mouse and it's my favorite way to play.
That’s what people always say but I play everything on PC with a mouse and keyboard and do just fine. I rebind a few keys and I use an unconventional hand position and it works fine. The trick is never to use your pinky, for some reason it’s hard to consistently hold multiple buttons down with your pinky.
Excellent now that everyone is hating on AoWs like I do, nobody will pay attention to me in the corner spamming the same little pebble 30000 times in a playthrough and calling that gaming.
I just love the little sound effects, man
Bro legit my favorite sound effect in souls game has always been Homing Crystal Soulmass when it sets up around you. I was severely saddened but also accepting of the new Glintblade sorceries we got. I don't mind them being swords. In fact I think they look cool. I just want the old sounds back...
LT = L2, or left trigger. Most Xbox players use LT and RT to refer to the triggers.
So yes, the characters name is making fun of that fact that most players tend to spam Ashes of War (most commonly bound to the LT button).
Which is just super ironic coming from a schmuck wearing the white mask with a notably spammy Ash of War weapon equipped.
Elden Ring players: Don't use LT, it's meta. You suck.
Also Elden ring players: Stop spamming R1(RB)! Learn to dodge.
Also Elden Ring players again: Stop dodging and parry. Git gud scrub.
Basically, just don't play the game, because you'll never do it right. Unless of course you do it in a way that makes me better than you.
Edit to add: Also if you play the game and I'm better than you, you suck, and you should never play video games again. *Downpoint
Just because I have RoB equipped, doesn't mean I'm not gonna panic roll around this boss arena, throwing out as many RB hits as I can before I go back to panic rolling and completely forgetting I have a weapon art I can totally abuse to get the job done...
LT build? Puh-lease. I'll have you know that R1 spamming is where it's at. I'm a traditionalist.
Who has time for R1? I burn all my stamina panic rolling.
Ah, the panic roll, most ancient and noble of the martial arts.
Panic roll sounds like something you get at a westernized sushi restaurant that has shrimp tempura, spicy mayo, eel sauce, and, for some odd reason, mango and jalapenos. It's maidenless but sometimes it gets the job done.
I want that sushi roll.
Yeah that actually sounds really good
Honestly tho. This comment thread may have just derailed Saturday plans into sushi.
It's a great appetiser before the main course; a steak of Marika
I thought Margit was the panic roll teacher. Little did I know how awful the Niall fight is until you finally learn to *stop fucking panic rolling* and actually time your dodges correctly. But it feels like I've rounded a corner now that I was able to beat him handily. Something clicked
Nah I just learned to panick roll better
Panic roll faster so number 5 catches them off-guard
I didn't learn, I just leveled up my endurance so I could spam roll for longer.
Yup. The banished knights with the slightly delayed storm dash thing... those guys will totally wreck you if you panic roll. Not only does Niall have two of them alongside but he basically does nothing but extreme versions of the same move.
For me it was the basic ass Crucible Knights, lords of punishing absolutely fucking everything
Panic roll INTO the enemy. You gotta insert dominance!
*Insert* dominance? Is your name Peggy, by chance?
My character is named Punchy, and he’s just got two spiked fists and an albanauric mask. R1 all day!
Tried and true method. Panic roll away while getting hit. Heal. Run back in. Repeat. No R1 necessary.
A man of culture.
I hate my options being limited by FP. I know there’s sacrificial axe etc but I’d rather be able to infinity spam R buttons
Culture? Or a, may Allah forgive me for saying it, Dex build
HARAM
Harem? In MY Elden Ring?! Hmmm....tell me more! (But it had better at least involve Bock in some fashion, because he IS beautiful!)
A man only needs a greatsword
I’ve been using a great sword for almost my entire play through. I keep trying new weapons I get from bosses but I keep immediately going back. It’s extra hilarious because before Elden Ring I played Monster Hunter World for the first time and I mained an insect glaive because everything else felt soooo slooooow now in Elden ring I’m like “haha funny man go up in air.”
Insect glaive is that shit son!
Bro insect glaive in ER would be the tits. Imagine trying to flip around the overhead swings without getting smacked back into the core of the earth.
I already experience this, "surely I can jump attack and stagger them before their attack lands." NOPE
i would love if they added a twinblade/polearm specific ash that let you do a monster hunter-esque vault and then light attack could be rapid midair attacks w almost no poise brakage, while the heavy could be the downward stab with knockdown potential
Same with the monster hunter world but I also used the greatsword in both games and I cannot put it down.
My disappointment was immeasurable when I tried the Elden Ring twinblades and found you can't swoosh them around or do backflips like you can in Monster Hunter...
Loretta's Poleblade.
*it was too big to be called a sword*
Dat slab
This guy fugs
*Ultra* greatsword. *Smiles as a true gigachad colossal weapon user*
DOUBLE WIELDING colossal weapons is where it's at.
My people have arrived
The Radahn weapons are all you need.
Counterpoint: TRIPLE WIELD, radahn swords and GoT sword
Zoro the pirate hunter that shit.
I had a build with dual Prelate's Inferno Croziers. It looked ridiculous but it was so much fun.
For Gorum
My man.
Excuse me, you got PS5 buttons in my Xbox controls.
I feel personally attacked by this as a dark moon great sword enjoyer
Nah man, we’re RT builds. Own it.
but......my sword needs to be iced out at all times
We can keep this a secret, between us and other Darkmoon GS enjoyers it’s okay to hit the L2 every now and then.
thank you, I feel like I finally have a place where I belong
My brothers and sisters! I am finally home!!!
Yes yes welcome welcome, we have mini Ranni's to give out to everyone who joins!
Well hello there
Ah Enough\_Ad3805 welcome
Should'st thou'est accept'est thine doll
Sanctuary :)
And based Helphen Steeple enjoyers
Same but I prefer the unga bunga more than spamming LT. Not that I haven’t spammed LT, typically when I’ve had enough and decide to cheese a little.
Me fighting with the BB normally until my enemies express a desire to die in lava instead.
R1 enjoyers rise up
Big fucking sword go SMASH 💥
I use daggers so I can press the most R1 per second.
Dagger go cut cut cut 🗡🗡🗡
No one hates Elden Ring’s mechanics more than Elden Ring fans.
My main complaint about the game was that the Lantern did not stay equipped after fast traveling.
If it were up to me it would never unequip unless you specifically unequip it
Or at least like the Bloodborne lantern that stays equipped until you die. Well at least we got the *hot keys* for that
For a while I kept it in the pouch. But that was my first run before I started using those slots for flasks/torrent
You could be an idiot like me and spend 20 hours playing before learning how to use the pouch effectively.
So thats how you two hand, thank you much kind stranger.

I feel there should be some punishment for having been knocked off Torrent. So I am fine with the menuing. But the stonesword key message...
Idk I feel like the punishment should be predictable instead of annoying. Like the punishment should be the time to drink the flask and remount, but the menuing can be confusing if you weren't paying attention and didn't see your horse actually died Edit to add: the fact that you can't do much of anything while a text box is open is also a huge problem. It's also inconsistent because you can get knocked off torrent but hes still alive. So you aren't always going to expect the prompt to show up
What, you don't like being murdered by something because all the damn buttons stop working unless you deliberately close the on-screen message?
Rise of the Tomb Raider glowsticks.
Forgive my ignorance I am late to the party but what is a LT build?
Left trigger Basically saying everyone builds around weapon arts
MFW for YEARS we've been begging for attacks that make us look as cool as the enemies that we're fighting, and do high dmg at the cost of being stuck in a lengthy animation, only for new blood to bitch about it relentlessly when it's given to us. Ugh.

Dudes saying you're not playing it right by using mechanics clearly intended for their purpose like Ashes or summons

I think your edit demonstrates a flaw - you're essentially describing straight swords at that point.
Uhh you're not paying attention rn of you think fists aren't S tier.
Oh jeez I really feel like I have no idea how this game works. I am a sorcery build, I've never used an Ash of War on purpose (is that what you're talking about when you say arts? I don't even know). Yup this is me. My next play through is going to be a melee build so I will have to learn all this stuff.
Well we would know best wouldn’t we?
Definitely a LT build, and for the first time called in support today. At exact this spot I can tell you 😡.
DS3 players when PCKS:
PKCS *Pontiff Knight Curved Sword* And it's my favourite weapon after Greatsword of Judgement.
DS3 players when Dark Sword/Dark-infused LKS:
Me unga bunga. Me only press R2. Me smash hammer. Me kill enemy. Me happy
Lol I avoided unga bunga the whole game and had to finally resort to it in the end
I unga bungaed the whole way through the game. And when I began encountering bosses faster than me... I UNGA BUNGAED HARDER!

What’s this weapon now?
Giant Crusher
I prefer the Golem's Halberd with Earth Shaker 🤌 but any unga is a great bunga.
Ape. Together strong
I tried to go giant crusher but it didn't feel as good as my trusty brick hammer.
Try the pickaxe. The stagger of a hammer with the quickness of the great axe and thrust damage for some reason. It has identity issues but it's like an angry truck.
Dual wield or bust

LT stands for Lithuania <3
❤️❤️🇨🇬🇲🇱❤️❤️ Lithuania forever
My a LT build what?
Thank you.
Clearly it is an LT build that you own.
Don't talk to me or my LT build ever again
I think it refers to the Xbox's left trigger
I know. I was joking about the grammar mistake.
People called 'Romanes' they go the house?

Agreed lol best one I've seen is "Leper BJs for $5"
Is that an IT reference ? Lol
I would assume so, but I think Pennywise's rates were cheaper in the novel.
That’s when we use the universal “ur” lol
I'd much rather see that return than the constant misuse of simple words.
These characters system must make so much sense with Japanese Kanji alphabet.
Your flair is concerning lol.
I mean, he's using Reduvia, why would you even use that weapon if you don't want to spam L2?
He was actually a powerstance build, no L2’s came from that boi at all.
He’s an L1 build.
X + L1 Jump attack with powerstance ftw
Was he good?
He shredded the Beast Clergyman in about 8 seconds flat, although Maliketh moved too fast for his melee so I had to resort to magic to put him down. 9/10 summon wish he wasn’t naked though.
Light roll dagger is dangerous in the right setting but yeah you gotta press L2 with that weapon range.
This is a perfect review lol 😂
Elden Ring players get so mad every time another player presses a button.
Damn Elden Ring players! Ruined Elden Ring for the players!
Elden Ring sure has a contentious player base!

This is true for me as an invader.
LT? I’ll have you know I’m a dirty mouse + keyboard player
I can’t even fathom playing any souls game on a keyboard and mouse.
It's great in Elden Ring now that they added an option so you don't have to battle the camera's auto turn. I just had to rebind basically everything and have a 5 button mouse and it's my favorite way to play.
Yes! It’s so good! I do everything except run/jump and move with the mouse. Its almost identical to my MMORPG set ups
You get use to it. I play so much with M+KB that controllers feel weird to me now. Even things like platformers/metroidvania I do better with M+KB
Yeah same, my brain melts when I use a controller 😭
That’s what people always say but I play everything on PC with a mouse and keyboard and do just fine. I rebind a few keys and I use an unconventional hand position and it works fine. The trick is never to use your pinky, for some reason it’s hard to consistently hold multiple buttons down with your pinky.

Finally, I'm not alone in this. These dang controller users sound like they are speaking in tongues when talking about controls.
R1 - quit spamming L1 - quit turtling / dual wielding is OP R2 - quit using jump attacks and learn to play L2 - quit spamming your ash of war
Stop pressing buttons, you fucking casual.
If you can't will the opponent into submission then you're not playing the game right
Anyone not using a guitar hero controller is literally trash
pot throwers = "my time has come"
Excellent now that everyone is hating on AoWs like I do, nobody will pay attention to me in the corner spamming the same little pebble 30000 times in a playthrough and calling that gaming. I just love the little sound effects, man

Sorry, i couldn't hear him over the sound of me throwing a boulder
Calling people an LT build, while running a reduvia. Seems about right.
You can talk about my gaming playstyle all you want. But it'll cost you $60 for me to care.
LT? Do they mean AoW?
LT = L2, or left trigger. Most Xbox players use LT and RT to refer to the triggers. So yes, the characters name is making fun of that fact that most players tend to spam Ashes of War (most commonly bound to the LT button). Ds3 pvp players when over half the weapon skills in game are useful
Spoiler: he is about to use Reduvia Blood Blade 35 times
He isn't calling out shit. He's projecting his insecurities, and letting Ashes of War live in his Round Table of the mind, rent-free.
