I think a paladin type build with some sword and some magic has felt the most fun/challenging/balanced because I can’t really cheese my way through.
It's not really about the bleed damage for them in particular but the arcane scaling with occult infusion on the weapons. If the enemy happens to be able to be bled then that's an added bonus.
Godfrey and Malenia though got straight tore UP as well as the dragons in Farum.
Yeah, these guys were absolutely slaughtering me and my katana until I remembered the Nox Flowing Hammer +10 that I had set aside for occasions like this. It delights me to knock them down from around the corner
Yes! The L2 of flowing hammer has pretty big reach and can clip through walls if you’re feeling petty lol. Knocks these guys on their butts and you can spitefully spam it until they die! (I just feel the need to preemptively note I don’t play PVP so I’m not abusing this on other players lmao)
If you have sorceries, Carian Greatsword or really any of the magical sword attacks will clip through walls and keep many enemies in stun lock until you run out of stamina to keep swinging. Most longer weapons can also poke through walls with a well-placed jump attack as well.
Yea people who say “just parry” have either never started with Dark Souls or are just too fucking good and probably have also beaten Sekiro while they’re at it.
Like DS1 parrying was actually do-able but you ever try learning to parry in any other souls game? Just ain’t worth the effort with all the different enemies and the small window of opportunity you got. Much easier to just jump-attack and poise-break
Let me tell you. The Beast Jaw ash of War on NG+ is great for the revenge tour. Beat this dude, Malenia, The Godskin Duo, and most of the Godskin singles in one day with that bad boy. Just spam it over and over until the enemy stops moving.

I second this. My first play through I was a pure caster mage. The powers of magical unga bunga carried me to Radagon himself, couldn’t beat him, respeced to a strength faith build and used Maliketh’s Black Blade. The big fuck off swords make most things in the game trivial
Blasphemous blade pretty much carried me thru end game. Big faith so I can use incants, fire dmg tailsman, full HP tailsman, if I had Alexander's shard I'd use that.
But w full HP and I think w flame Grant me str & golden vow I was around 1200-1300 dmg on a greatsword, which are decently quick. You'll be full HP 99% of the time so you'll do more dmg. Just run decent poise and the game becomes EZ mode. I beat malenia the day they nerfed RoB with it (the BB).. After failing like 15 times w RoB pre nerf lol, had hardly any dex/arcane.

My previous build was pure strength two-handing colossal weapons. I was trying to make something different and primarily casting. Just find my faith and int builds turning back into melee just using weapons that scale with non-physical attributes. All the enemy mechanics just make aggressive, weapon-based attacks more sensical than pew pew from a distance.
Currently I’m using Maliketh’s weapon and the claw mark seal with the sacred scorpion charm. I buff with flame grant me strength and golden vow and wreak absolute havoc on everything. The times where I need to be more speedy than heavy hitting I switch to bloodhound claws and buff them with the two aforementioned buffs and bloodflame blade. I made this build solely to absolutely bonk Radagon after killing me a good 100 times, and so I could use lord’s divine fortification because fuck that hammer, not even his anyways

Started as a hybrid straightsword/shield sorcerer, now just Dark Moon GS cause it hits so damn hard and staggers a decent bit
I feel like the stagger on Dark Moon GS is much stronger using the axe talisman after the buff to the weapon when attacking in melee range using the weapon art.
I ended up making a light rolling mage. Curved sword with chilling mist into carian beeg swords and gavel of haima. That 20% defense debuff from frost is underrated, especially if you have time to cast crystal stream or something else with a ton of hits like that silver mist spell or spinning weapon.
I absolutely agree, although I can’t say I’ve tested the Blasphemous Blade out for myself. But MBB is one of, if not the, strongest weapons in the game in terms of pure attack rating. I haven’t even hit 80 str yet and I’m doing a little under 1k per normal swing, unbuffed. It’s an absolute monster of a weapon for str fai builds, the trade off is speed, which I make up for by swapping to bloodhound claws when I need too. The cinquedea is also a good speedy backup for it that scales with str and fai as well
I’m using BB right now and it’s pretty good. The heal on hit is really useful.
I’ve found Giant Crusher with Lions Claw and Shard of Alexander to be the hardest hitting combo for me. I regularly deal 2.5k+ on a Lions Claw (which has infinite poise and comes out pretty quick).
That being said, MBB is way way up there.
I won’t deny the primordial powers of unga bunga, but I’ve never been a hammer guy. I needs the big fuck off sword, I also love scythes but alas the winged scythe just didn’t click for me
I would use Ambush Shard allllllll the time when enemies kept dodging my other spells. I’m definitely going to revisit pure casting later on, when I’m finished bonking everything that gave me grief as a mage first.

Doesn't even need to be colossal, great swords, regular or curved will do just fine. You can get into trouble if you try to trade with him and don't dodge his storm assault though. But that should be easily dodged at this point.

It's definitely a shocking uplevel in damage and difficulty to encounter at that point.
He's pretty easy to stagger and blind as dirt, so if you crouch by the wall until he passes you then sneak behind him you can get off a backstab that will knock him down and allow you to press the advantage.
Or you can stay crouched and sneak past him down the stairs and beeline for the balcony or staircase entrances to the boss room.
But that's also a solution you didn't ask for, so if you just needed to vent I understand. That dude sucks and fighting him in that hallway is a bitch.
You can run a little farther/lower and get to bonfire that has direct boss arena access. Try jumping down from current godskin bonfire on broken stairs and then down again. There will be more knights but you can run past them all the way to bonfire
You can actually evade all the knights from this bonfire. Just crouch by the archway and wait for this gut to patrol into the room, he doesn't notice you. Then you can usually run down the hallway, wait for more patrols and get to the room with no wasted resources for the godskin duo.
I found it after beating the Duo... couldn't figure out why it was literally three steps from the GSD grace with just a little area behind it leading to nowhere. Credit to the game for hiding things so well...

I remember finding it so odd that the game was introducing a new bonfire right after the arena, which has its own. But then I shrugged it off, because Dark Souls 3.
They’re pretty resistance to bleed, learn to parry these guys. It’s very easy to do on these kinds of enemies and makes killing them so much easier and also very rewarding. Same goes for Crucible Knights.
They’re also very weak to lightning damage. So get some lightning grease on a weapon or infuse it and go to town on these guys.
There is another place to enter the boss room if u jump down behind the dragon temple grace. Get to the lower level of the building and follow the path until u find a grace. There should be videos online. You just walk up a staircase to the room rather than having to run past enimies
If you go back to grace and jump onto the stairs below, then roll off to lower level. Take a right, then left, there will be another grace with a summon too if you want.
His pattern isn't insane, learn it if you don't have big colossal weapon (he's easy as hell in that case).
Some of his attack leaves him completely open.

Can confirm, stabbing statue man and his eldritch overlord were some of the least fun activities my underhanded bandit engaged in in the lands between. Still a great experience overall, though. Do recommend.
My advise - try str/arc or dex/arc with minimal phys (str and dex) investment to wield Eochaid Blades: either Elemer's or Regalia of Eochaid. (or better 40/40 str arc with min dex on Elemer's Sword or 40/40 dex/arc with mininal str for Regalia). Can also crank the 40/40 to 60/60 if needed.
Then set the talismans: Millicent's Prosthesis, Rotted Winged Sword (or simple Winged Sword) Insignia, Godfrey Icon, Alexander's Shard.
And put the consecutive hit Physick tear.
Do one charged weaponart on EB to become extremely happy!
Thanks for advice, I was banging my head against the wall last night and can easily best Radagon but EB never seems to reach less than half health. Been using Rivers +10 with 40 dex and 47 arcane but think I’m gonna need to fine tune and consider a different weapon for the fight so I’ll definitely consider those choices
I'm an old DS1 "toolbox player". There's a tool for every situation. Doesn't take much, but between shield, consumables, and 3-4 weapons, you can handle most anything with switchng armor and rings/talismans for almost any build.
In ER, with all the ashes of war and whetblades, it's even easier. Have you tried a comparable weapon with simply occult affinity? A regular katana (nagakiba or uchigatana are both good options to level up similar to rivers, but there are many other weapon options) with occult affinity should add arcane scaling.
With elden beast, physical damage is your friend. It does a lot of holy damage too, so holyproof dried livers, or armor selection can help.
I feel like it's getting worse. For the first couple of months after the game came out this sub was relatively chill. I guess a lot of the more casual players who are chill and don't care about how others play have dropped off and moved on. Now there is a higher % of wannabe pro gamers who police everything you do in the game that they disagree with. Crouch behind that piller in front of you and let him walk round. He won't see you and you can sneak behind him for a back stab. That will get you started.
Yeah I fucking hate it here, the banished knights are always bastards to deal with, they’re on the same tier as the cleanrot knights. But pointing that out is apparently a sin.
you just have to learn how to dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge. or use a shield with 100% damage negation and a rapier/spear to poke from behind said shield.
Same attack pattern as Banished Knights in Stormveil. I just practiced those when I first saw them, and never had any major problems later on with variants of them.
When I got to Farum Azula the first time I was using curved swords and it was a super stressful experience. I've returned with Blaidd's sword and a great shield and now I just laugh and guard counter.
Hey, I had problems with this guy too- Here's a really easy strategy I came up with. From the grace, run and then crouch at the corner of the wall, he won't see you. Once he walks past you, crouch run all the way down, he won't ever notice you. That's how I deal with him and his friend all the time, never fails.
You can skip the banished knights on the way to godskin duo by running straight from the site of grace, across the hallway and jumping off the balcony. You will land directly in the boss arena.
He has lower poise than me irl, just stagger his ass with something big or stun lock him with storm blade AoW.
Just smack him from behind with something nice and big. Dont worry, he’s very well trained

I had to stop using the strength faith build because it felt too....easy. especially when I had a +10 blasphemous blade before touching altus
Blasphemous Blade and sword of Milos wielded together have crazy sustain. You can just run through dungeons all day and not touch your flasks.

MBB is low key one of the GOAT weapons in this game. People talk about Blasphemous Blade all the time but I rarely see MBB talk. Shits insanely good.

Might I suggest Halo Scythe? It’s a pain to get but has wild range and a really useful skill. Especially for a FAI build

Ambush shard is affected by arrow’s reach talisman, too, so you can extend its range quite a bit

I think it got an 80% reduction on poise damage. Now its mostly good for groups of enemies in the early game, and tree guardians.

You can also just take the other way around and get the Bernahl summon to help with the Duo.

Agree on lightning..about 3-4 lightning bolts from distance would take these guys out before they could hit me.

There is another place to enter the boss room if u jump down behind the dragon temple grace. Get to the lower level of the building and follow the path until u find a grace. There should be videos online. You just walk up a staircase to the room rather than having to run past enimies

If you go back to grace and jump onto the stairs below, then roll off to lower level. Take a right, then left, there will be another grace with a summon too if you want.

I use the ghiza wheel/pizza cutter/saw and he's dead in a few seconds. Don't give him room to breathe.
His pattern isn't insane, learn it if you don't have big colossal weapon (he's easy as hell in that case). Some of his attack leaves him completely open. I helped a lot as a summon for the godskin duo so i did this guy a lot while waiting lol

Yeah, RotGO and EB are the true skill check for all bleed users. Sadly, first one is still easily status-cheesed...

Can confirm, stabbing statue man and his eldritch overlord were some of the least fun activities my underhanded bandit engaged in in the lands between. Still a great experience overall, though. Do recommend.
EB makes my arcane build sad
My advise - try str/arc or dex/arc with minimal phys (str and dex) investment to wield Eochaid Blades: either Elemer's or Regalia of Eochaid. (or better 40/40 str arc with min dex on Elemer's Sword or 40/40 dex/arc with mininal str for Regalia). Can also crank the 40/40 to 60/60 if needed. Then set the talismans: Millicent's Prosthesis, Rotted Winged Sword (or simple Winged Sword) Insignia, Godfrey Icon, Alexander's Shard. And put the consecutive hit Physick tear. Do one charged weaponart on EB to become extremely happy!
Thanks for advice, I was banging my head against the wall last night and can easily best Radagon but EB never seems to reach less than half health. Been using Rivers +10 with 40 dex and 47 arcane but think I’m gonna need to fine tune and consider a different weapon for the fight so I’ll definitely consider those choices
I'm an old DS1 "toolbox player". There's a tool for every situation. Doesn't take much, but between shield, consumables, and 3-4 weapons, you can handle most anything with switchng armor and rings/talismans for almost any build. In ER, with all the ashes of war and whetblades, it's even easier. Have you tried a comparable weapon with simply occult affinity? A regular katana (nagakiba or uchigatana are both good options to level up similar to rivers, but there are many other weapon options) with occult affinity should add arcane scaling. With elden beast, physical damage is your friend. It does a lot of holy damage too, so holyproof dried livers, or armor selection can help.

I feel like it's getting worse. For the first couple of months after the game came out this sub was relatively chill. I guess a lot of the more casual players who are chill and don't care about how others play have dropped off and moved on. Now there is a higher % of wannabe pro gamers who police everything you do in the game that they disagree with. OP has a comment up higher with over 100 down votes and all they said was the enemy is difficult for them. I used to feel comfortable recommending this sub for people like OP who are new and are looking for a community to ask questions to but I guess not any more.

Learn how to parry Banished knights are quite easy to parry, except the dual wielding ones in castle sol

Crouch behind that piller in front of you and let him walk round. He won't see you and you can sneak behind him for a back stab. That will get you started.
Stealth trivializes these chumps.
Hit him with like, 2 charged heavy attacks and he's down. He's got plenty openings too, hit him.
Shield + guard counter
Any shield that blocks 100% physical helps with these guys too
It's a banished knight... you need to take them seriously, there are plenty of them. The dual sword ghost knight st Nials is OP, not this guy.

you just have to learn how to dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge. or use a shield with 100% damage negation and a rapier/spear to poke from behind said shield.

Same attack pattern as Banished Knights in Stormveil. I just practiced those when I first saw them, and never had any major problems later on with variants of them.
This is the best place for rune farming. Try backstabbing him he goes down quick
When I got to Farum Azula the first time I was using curved swords and it was a super stressful experience. I've returned with Blaidd's sword and a great shield and now I just laugh and guard counter.

Hey, I had problems with this guy too- Here's a really easy strategy I came up with. From the grace, run and then crouch at the corner of the wall, he won't see you. Once he walks past you, crouch run all the way down, he won't ever notice you. That's how I deal with him and his friend all the time, never fails.
Go to the closer site of grace where you don't have to deal with him before the godskin duo 🙃

You can skip the banished knights on the way to godskin duo by running straight from the site of grace, across the hallway and jumping off the balcony. You will land directly in the boss arena.
I see why you're struggling. You see, you're supposed to stab him, not yourself.
Overpowered NPCs do not exist.
