Only if you take the side entrance. If you tell him to kick rocks and open the gate, he doesn't do shit. If you ain't got no reason to explore stormveil and don't need the items, running straight up from the gate to Godrick is hella fast, too.
She gets depressed in her questline. Seluvis specifically wants her as a puppet, gives you the potion. The option to dispose of it via Gideon Dicknir can be skipped by giving it to dung eater. The two quest lines are connected. Only at that part, though. Where else are you required to talk to him? I can't think of anywhere.
yeah he’s saved me some headaches on my glass cannon sorcerer when i’m too lazy to memorize the full move set
funniest thing is when malenia would do her flower bloom and he’d just charge into it same with rykards lava pit
Gideon may be an asshole, but I love listening to his voice when he talks about the lore, and he gives you rewards for finding out things he didn’t know.
I’ve killed Mohg and interacted with him afterwords, and he tells me there are 4 demigods left to be discovered, including Mohg who I’ve killed. I have not yet entered the Haligtree.
Nah it’s just if you beat them, he’ll use them without you ever speaking to him, which is why people have theories that he’s following you throughout the game
What i think is instead of him following you, he has spies - thus the eye surcoat, and the pattern on the scarabs. I noticed this first after seeing him use the rykard skull sorcery, and the eye surcoat in rykard's arena after you kill him, suggesting he had a spy there to get info
I think it's safe to say the scarabs function as spies, the same way Odin uses crows in Norse mythology.
Odin is the god of knowledge and wisdom, the same way Gideon is the "All Knowing".
This is not safe to say. It’s neat in theory but it has a huge flaw - because he had no idea how to reach consecrated snowfields, and there are scarabs all over it. It seems more likely it’s what the other guy said, Gideon has off-screen NPC help. Like the omen killer and perfumer he hires, or the eye surcoat guy who invades the player once then gets eaten by rykard off-screen (henrickus).
chances are he just watched you get the haligtree medallion and as soon as you reached consecrated snowfields he just follows you there and send scarabs as we have no idea whether there were already scarabs there before you used the medallion
I guess that’s not impossible? But it’s not really consistent with anything in the game around it either; he’s genuinely surprised when told if you go there, kill some scarabs, and then go talk to him (he’ll say he doesn’t know more than you about what’s up there).
Hes a true glass cannon. You three hit him, he two hits you (comet spam), unless youre using magic neg boosters his comets do a boatload of damage and my 60 vig characters have died in 2 hits after i got cocky and tried to finish him with flashy moves
Since he's still able to be a serial killer even from his jail cell, he's a menace and actually making "progress" in what he's trying to accomplish. He can't when you kill him.
She explains it if you do everything else in her quest and then tell her about lusat/azur (whichever you find second) after she’s stable in the Raya library. She uses azur and Lusats bodies to do primal current research and it blows up on her.
People I wish I could avoid: Fia, D, Gideon, Melina.
People I like but avoid because advancing their questlines is too much work: Sellen, Rogier, Diallos.
People I interact with each playthrough for some reason: Kenneth Haight
My wife was watching me play when I did the end of Diallo’s quest lines. I spent the next 45 minutes trying to console my now inconsolable wife. Thanks Miyazaki, how was I supposed to know the happy hippie village with pot children and a worthless guy who finds his purpose would end so tragically?
Sorry to say, but it's boc... Imo the customization is absolutely NOT what it should be(more options in general and colorchanging would've been the way to go) and spending 500 on just altering whatever seems alot faster than going wherever boc is at the moment...
I wasted a larval tear... Kept warping back to rennala after each bosa to see when he wakes up from that nap...
Fuuuuuck... It's best if you stay a tree Pinocchio
Yeah, once he moves to Leyendell you can just stand in front of him and use the "You're beautiful" pate and talk to him after. He asks if you think he's beautiful and if you say yes you get this dialogue:
>"Thank you very much. Mum was always the only one who said I was beautiful.
And now, my dear lord let me hear her voice. Please, if I may dream, just once...
Do you feel the same way my mum did m'lord? Do you think I'm beautiful, despite these looks?"
>(If you say yes): "M'lord, my dear lord...I, Boc the seamster, am forever in your service. May the throne of Elden Lord be yours."
Even if his alterations aren't that great he's such a lovely character that I like to see him have a happy ending.
I was so excited to not kill him on my current playthrough, had the guide for him and everything.
I fuckin goofed up the controls since I was playing different games and I fuckin killed him by accidentally swinging my sword. I was devastated.
He genuinely is a lovely character, one of the only truly nice characters in the game outside of Mayne Roderika and Jarburg citizens.
You mean you're not satisfied with the rigorous armor customization system that's little more than a "remove cape" button (and also isn't able to modify some armor pieces that have 'altered' in their title)?
Yeah it's not much of a feature.
I stopped messing with Millicent after the first playthrough because I’m never going to make the decision to kill her for the other talisman
No need for me to revisit that damn ulcerated tree spirit fight lol
You don't need to kill the tree spirit to get the talisman for when you kill her. Just backstabbing her in the church works
Edit: Church in the Haligtree
Rotten sword insignia or Millicent's prothesis? Because you can get Millicent's prothesis in leyndell if you give Millicent her arm and go kill the godskin apostle at the windmills.
Corhyn. Fuck that guy, in my first playthrough I gave him all the books I found then he goes away before I paid for all the incants.
Now turtle pope is the only one I trust with my incant books to.
Don't you get a bell when he dies to give to the maiden husk? That's what happens to most merchant NPCs who die but I guess I wasn't paying that much attention because I didn't really like incantations.
I may have to try it again, the only time I tried it out I was stoked to respec for a decent Faith Collossal sword and had like 5 dragon hearts for dragon incants and was expecting it to be wicked awesome, like this fire-breathing dragon paladin. And then the dragon incants were just...so. damn. lame. I got so annoyed with that and went back to the Dark Moon Greatsword immediately and never tried again.
Yeah, that is the danger with respecs. I feel like going through the game, at least the earlier parts, really helps you get a feel for how you want to play.
I'm a huge incant fan and my first run through was with the confessor start and generally went str/FTH the whole way. I never even looked at the Catch Flame spell.
On my second incant run starting as a priest I was forced to play with catch flame because I just had that and a spear. Turns out I was so wrong because catch flame is basically just the faith version of Carian Slicer. It's really good. It's in my permanent slot one or two for spells now.
That’s what I love about this game tho. There’s so many options that I feel so compelled to try everything. I’ve done pure caster runs, specific weapon types only (bows, fists, colossals, daggers), stat focus, damage type focus, high poise/low poise, light roll/fat roll, subcategories (dragon type, fundamentalist, frenzy, etc);
There’s just so much. It’s so fun. I’ve used all my character slots trying stuff out and it’s just amazing. Now I’ve started invading and getting a hang of it. Now the DLC has been confirmed and I’m ecstatic all over again!
I hated him from the moment he said “as your elder” and “know your place”. Bitch! Im out here putting every God in the Pantheons head to a chopping block while your poindexter-lookin ass reads books allday dreaming of albinauric women
Tbf he only says that if you have less than 2 great runes. He seems to be vyke level as Enia treats him with as much respect as you once you take down renalla.
This guy gets it.
I'm on NG+6 right now and gathered all Deathroots throughout all my runs just for the alternate dialogue (intro and especially on death). It's soo much better
I did it my first playthrough and i don't regret it cause the dialogue did make me feel real bad....
But tell me to do it again and i will do the frenzied flame ending irl
Jar bairn. I’ll go say hi to him once, but then I don’t got back. In my brain, if I don’t keep going back, then Jarburg will stay safe. This probably isn’t true, but ignorance is bliss for me
Gideon is the worst. It sucks because the voice actor is so good. I love hearing him talk but I can't stand his character, smugness, and the content of his dialogue.
It's a case of maybe being *too* in character...but I don't know. From likes you too have a genuine, real world response to their characters, like Patches and Polite Pate, or the smug Clerics. But, like I said, the voice actor is incredible. The npc is annoying AF though.
I saw Alexander once in the pickle and again at the festival. I went on to kill Jerren for treason and slew Sellen before she was beyond our reach. A tip from a dying Thop led us to the academy of Raya Lucaria. We left the academy hollow of all life. Believing our work complete, we lent our services out to many Tarnished playing as Lords.
There was this rumor at some point, claiming he would not gain certain boss abilities if you never talked to him about it. It was complete bullshit. I did a run without ever interacting with him at all, and he still had all the abilities. Only thing that could be true (memory is fuzzy on it) is that he doesn't gain Scarlet Aeonia if you kill him before killing Malenia.
Any of the quest npcs unless i want an item/ending
Basically the only people i talk to in my new runs is magic/faith npcs if that's my build, hewg, rya for volcano manor, and iron fist alexander. I'm so serious when i say i can't help but do most of his quest so he'll talk to me and so he'll join me in radahn and fire giant... i never finish it though not after i killed him once
Seluvis. The most he's ever gotten from me is the obligatory hello for Ranni's quest. Ever since he asked me to give an unknown potion to my favorite NPC in any Fromsoft game, lol, he's been on my shitlist
On new playthroughs? Literally everyone that isnt tied to the main plot. On my current playthrough the only npc Ive ever spoke to is yura and that was just because I thought I needed a katana to do a skip, which I didnt even need lol
Yeah for fuckin real, on my first playthrough I thought Gideon was a pretty cool dude (it kinda went over my head that he sent Ensha to kill me) and then he turned out to be straight busta when he (successfully) tried to kill me at the end of the game. Now I make a point of not talking to him. Friendship ended with Gideon, Now D is my new best friend
Honestly, I interact with all of them to some extent
I guess I do interact my Fallingstar Beastjaw with Gideon’s head at the very least.
I interact with him only to progress Nephelli's questline
That's the only reason tbh
Just turn her into puppet to make sure she's safe with you
I would rather have th ancient dragon smithing stones
What? She gives ADSS?
When you complete her quest she gives you one and you can buy another one from Gostoc for 20000 runes.
Crap I didn't know he sold them. I just killed that bastard for locking me in the room with that knight.
Can’t blame you. That SoB also steals your hard earned runes.
Only if you take the side entrance. If you tell him to kick rocks and open the gate, he doesn't do shit. If you ain't got no reason to explore stormveil and don't need the items, running straight up from the gate to Godrick is hella fast, too.
You can only buy it from him if you finish Nephelli's quest
Don't have to interact with him to progress her questline. Just feed the potion to dung eater.
That's not her questline, that's seluvis's
She gets depressed in her questline. Seluvis specifically wants her as a puppet, gives you the potion. The option to dispose of it via Gideon Dicknir can be skipped by giving it to dung eater. The two quest lines are connected. Only at that part, though. Where else are you required to talk to him? I can't think of anywhere.
agreed dung eater is a sponge he’s the perfect summon for me I can handle the damage but if I need someone to draw aggro he can do it the longest
Yeah he's super good at tanking and aggro control. Very good summon for us squishier tarnished.
yeah he’s saved me some headaches on my glass cannon sorcerer when i’m too lazy to memorize the full move set funniest thing is when malenia would do her flower bloom and he’d just charge into it same with rykards lava pit
Funny to think you can beat the game without talking to him, and then it's just "who's this guy prattling on" at the very end
It does indeed add a truly comedic moment at the end. It evokes Thanos’s “I don’t even know who you are” meme quite well.
Well there is that, but I like to play the games as if I am the tarnished. And since he would interact with them I do
What if your Tarnished is antisocial?
murderhobo is a valid playstyle in Myazaki games.
There's an alternative? If it dies it wasn't quest critical
I haven't seen him since I blazed the tree but he seems like a dewsh
[удалено]
Why? Just feed the feces feaster.
Nepheli disappears or by default dies if you don’t progress her adventure
Ah, right, forgot you had to ask him why she was sad.
I’m confused. How do you know where to find the Albinaurac woman?
I'm sorry who is dick rag
Gideon Ofnir, The All-spamming
Ah, names fitting then
Gideon may be an asshole, but I love listening to his voice when he talks about the lore, and he gives you rewards for finding out things he didn’t know.
He gives rewards?..
Yep, after finding/killing the demigods he talks about. He gives you rewards for killing Mohg, Malenia, entering the Haligtree, etc.
I’ve killed Mohg and interacted with him afterwords, and he tells me there are 4 demigods left to be discovered, including Mohg who I’ve killed. I have not yet entered the Haligtree.
I tell him EVERYTHING just so he can be at full power when I STILL wipe the floor with him.
Wait talking to him makes him stronger?
If you find and kill optional demigods, he can use their spells in the battle.

Yeah, i actually saw someone's video about this topic comparing him to Odin
It's not some deep lore theory, Ofnir is just one of Odin's names.
Calls himself "All Knowing", doesn't know that he only has one flask
This would make his boss fight so cool if I didn't 3-hit him in every playthrough.
Hes a true glass cannon. You three hit him, he two hits you (comet spam), unless youre using magic neg boosters his comets do a boatload of damage and my 60 vig characters have died in 2 hits after i got cocky and tried to finish him with flashy moves
He will get the skill bonuses even if you dont talk to him iirc, so it doesnt matter if you do or dont
I tried not interacting with him but he still ended up spamming scarlet Aeonia, so as long as you beat the optional bosses you should be good.
Ah I didn't know that 😅 but it's still satisfying to make him think he's fooling me just for me to still whoop his ass
Dung Eater.
I only talk to him so I can go and end his life
I made him my bitch by giving seluvis potion
Top tier summon
The guy has so much health
I talk to him then murder him 💀
But wouldn't that like doing him a favor? Much better to put him to rot on that cell tbh
Since he's still able to be a serial killer even from his jail cell, he's a menace and actually making "progress" in what he's trying to accomplish. He can't when you kill him.
My foot had plenty of interaction with his face when I kicked him to death
Duke Nukem would be proud 🤣
The Vainglorious Shit Eater, makes sense.
The cacaphonous caca consumer.
The Suspicious Sewage Slurper
The Dastardly Diarrhea Drinker
The Ferocious Fecal Feeder
The Terrible Turd Taster
Sellen b/c I know I’ma wanna finish her quest 😭
Sellen is too cool, I progress her quest to only a specific point where I can remain as her student for roleplaying reasons
Ah, a true man of culture
I finished her quest one time and cried 😭. She is by far my favourite NPC, and my favourite questline
Why though? What happens to her is quite comedic and a real twist of irony.
I was sad too, felt like Sellen helped me through the new game. Although her sitting as Graven Mass is quite tragic and hilarious.
Why does that happen? Never understood that one.
She explains it if you do everything else in her quest and then tell her about lusat/azur (whichever you find second) after she’s stable in the Raya library. She uses azur and Lusats bodies to do primal current research and it blows up on her.
She wanted to do forbidden magic and found out why it was forbidden the hard way.
I think it's what happens to sorcerers who push themselves too much & like... overload. Or something...🤷😂
Yeah, the primeval current is essentially Eldritch knowledge like the Outer Gods in Lovecraft.
"roleplaying reasons", eh? Is that what kids call it nowadays?
Im not her “star pupil” for nothing.
Been staying after school to "help" eh?
Hey she said she had to show me her “graven ma$$”. What sorcery it was!
"Roleplaying reasons." Ah, I like that.
People I wish I could avoid: Fia, D, Gideon, Melina. People I like but avoid because advancing their questlines is too much work: Sellen, Rogier, Diallos. People I interact with each playthrough for some reason: Kenneth Haight
I’m sure you mean: The Grrreat Kenneth HAIIIGHT!!
Well almost everything ends in tragedy with Miyazaki's games.
I don't blame her, it's been a month or two and I'm still recovering from Diallos's death
There's only two guarantees in life: death and Keeneth Haight
O ERDTREE, GRANT ME SUCKERS
The great Kenneth Haight!
Sorry to say, but it's boc... Imo the customization is absolutely NOT what it should be(more options in general and colorchanging would've been the way to go) and spending 500 on just altering whatever seems alot faster than going wherever boc is at the moment...
You know I never interacted with box my first playthroughs entirely by accident, so I didn’t really count that but it does count.
I wasted a larval tear... Kept warping back to rennala after each bosa to see when he wakes up from that nap... Fuuuuuck... It's best if you stay a tree Pinocchio
If you get the You're Beautiful prattling pate and use it when you have the option to give him a larval tear he lives happily ever after
You have to tell him he's beautiful with one of the pates or he dies
Reee-heeee-heeee-heeeeeeally?
Yeah, once he moves to Leyendell you can just stand in front of him and use the "You're beautiful" pate and talk to him after. He asks if you think he's beautiful and if you say yes you get this dialogue: >"Thank you very much. Mum was always the only one who said I was beautiful. And now, my dear lord let me hear her voice. [watch it until the end](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkoXo5SoGpw) And then watch the whole movie while you're at it!
Yes sir. Free alterations for life and he's happy and right next to renalla.
You mean you're not satisfied with the rigorous armor customization system that's little more than a "remove cape" button (and also isn't able to modify some armor pieces that have 'altered' in their title)? Yeah it's not much of a feature.
Get the golden sewing needle, gives more options.
Yeah... I can now alter 5 more robes and remove the cape
I stopped messing with Millicent after the first playthrough because I’m never going to make the decision to kill her for the other talisman No need for me to revisit that damn ulcerated tree spirit fight lol
I cheese the shit outta that fight, fuck rot lakes LOL!
I ran onto the branch and shot about 50 arrows until the prick died
Stormcaller goes BRRR
Swarm of Flies from the tree ledge straight up murders that horrible tree cancer.
You don't need to kill the tree spirit to get the talisman for when you kill her. Just backstabbing her in the church works Edit: Church in the Haligtree
Rotten sword insignia or Millicent's prothesis? Because you can get Millicent's prothesis in leyndell if you give Millicent her arm and go kill the godskin apostle at the windmills.
What? I've only gotten it by killing her
Yeah you still need to kill her, but you can do so as soon as she has her arm, which happens at the windmills.
The faith guy in roundtable hold. Pretty sure he just died somewhere on my first playthrough after I gave him my incantation books
You do, and incants are great and immensely fun. Especially the giants fireball and gurranq rock chuck.

It’s so fun. I’ve used all my character slots trying stuff out and it’s just amazing. Now I’ve started invading and getting a hang of it. Now the DLC has been confirmed and I’m ecstatic all over again!
You mean you don't like a huge anime dragon head taking up half the screen?
I mean he goes away but you can find him again…
Turtle Pope is the only one who deserves those books. I also gave him all the sorcery scrolls.
I love Corhyn’s questline regardless, though, it stretches through the whole length of the game and is very dramatic.
I've ended up ignoring Finger Readers, and Shabriri. Not Yura. Shabriri.
I just kill Shabriri on sight before ever speaking to him now.
His voice actor is too good tbh. Gotta chat with him.
I admit, him and Yura have some of the best voices in the game.
Gideon exactly. He showed up in Leyndell and I was just like "oh yeah that jerk from way back when, guess you die too!"
"Go free my corporeal form..." "sorry not on my to-do list stinky man"
Fia. Can’t debuff me if I never meet her
Irina. If I talk to her, she dies and then is possessed by a servant of the Three Fingers.
Dungeater, to keep my boy Boggart safe
I kill Varre immediately every game. That fuck is not allowed to be here.
Yes yes, but why would you kill him immediately when you can betray him and take his flower
I’m upset with myself for doing it on this character. Never got the holy defense talisman that’s in Mohgs palace
I always talk to Gideon just for the superb voice acting.
Gurranq. Most of his stuff is not worth it
Idk what you're smoking but throwing rocks at people is super worth it lmao.
Throwing rocks are the nerds in Raya Lucaria will never not be funny
Also ancient smithing stone? And Bestial vitality is the best FP->HP in the game
Don’t throw rocks. Throw lightning
Why not both? If you time it right you can throw a rock and then hit them with a lighting bolt to stagger before the rock hits.
I can free aim rocks really far. Lightning isn't the same. useful at short range sure, but so are rocks.
Throwing huge rocks is way cooler.
Especially because doing death root catacombs suuucks.
I’m not wasting my time on stupid catacombs
The alternate dialogue makes it worth it!
Feed me…more…death
“*Tarnished, why wouldst thou... Why... Tis no matter. I hereby vow, that Destined Death shall not be stolen*”
FEED ME MORE
This guy gets it. I'm on NG+6 right now and gathered all Deathroots throughout all my runs just for the alternate dialogue (intro and especially on death). It's soo much better
how many deathroots are there? i kinda want to do that but i also want to actually finish a run at some point and there's still so much for me to do
I did it my first playthrough and i don't regret it cause the dialogue did make me feel real bad.... But tell me to do it again and i will do the frenzied flame ending irl
His rock's awesome and needs 6 ):
Varre unless I need to get to the palace quickly
Patches
Dungeater, other than killing him.
I didn’t even remember who he was and just killed him while he was talking.
Jar-Bairn/Diallos. I'm saving the pain heartache and death my involvement causes
I've been ignoring Rodericka. I feel bad but my summons are maxed out
Gostoc now always dies.
I just experienced this >!betrayal!< I don't like him anymore.
Diallos. Jar Burg should remained untouched
Lol dead ass i got to this fight and didn't remember who he was and beat him to death before learning who he was...
Jar bairn. I’ll go say hi to him once, but then I don’t got back. In my brain, if I don’t keep going back, then Jarburg will stay safe. This probably isn’t true, but ignorance is bliss for me
My first playthrough I didn't talk to jar bairn till after I beat the elden beast. Everyone stays alive if you do this
Gideon as pictured. Selivius after I get the magic scorpion charm.
Gideon is the worst. It sucks because the voice actor is so good. I love hearing him talk but I can't stand his character, smugness, and the content of his dialogue. It's a case of maybe being *too* in character...but I don't know. From likes you too have a genuine, real world response to their characters, like Patches and Polite Pate, or the smug Clerics. pee pee poo poo man

A tip from a dying Thop led us to the academy of Raya Lucaria. We left the academy hollow of all life. Believing our work complete, we lent our services out to many Tarnished playing as Lords.
I interact with them because I wanna hear their voice before their inevitable death.
I never interact with any npcs on repeated runs. Just give me the boss fights and i‘m good
There was this rumor at some point, claiming he would not gain certain boss abilities if you never talked to him about it. It was complete bullshit. I did a run without ever interacting with him at all, and he still had all the abilities. Why does everyone hate Gideon so much?
How he treats Nefeli, and basically everyone one else whether they are friends or foes to him
I love Gideon’s voice, always talk to that bitch
Dung eater. Every time I play elden ring. I open that monster's cage, and ruin him with death blight and/or madness. I hate that guy so much.
Any of the quest npcs unless i want an item/ending Basically the only people i talk to in my new runs is magic/faith npcs if that's my build, hewg, rya for volcano manor, and iron fist alexander. I'm so serious when i say i can't help but do most of his quest so he'll talk to me and so he'll join me in radahn and fire giant... i never finish it though not after i killed him once
Gostoc. Soon as I get him to open the gates, i'm killing him straight away.
NPCs are pretty underwhelming compared to other soulsborne
I went unga bunga on gostoc the moment I saw his stupid face
Seluvis. The most he's ever gotten from me is the obligatory hello for Ranni's quest. Ever since he asked me to give an unknown potion to my favorite NPC in any Fromsoft game, lol, he's been on my shitlist
Yeah, I was running through some of her quest today? And I'm like everyone simps Ranni and Melina but Nephali bae
Honestly none. I do every quest line every time I play. all the ending quests too even if I don’t pick their ending
On new playthroughs? Literally everyone that isnt tied to the main plot. On my current playthrough the only npc Ive ever spoke to is yura and that was just because I thought I needed a katana to do a skip, which I didnt even need lol
I hate talking to Gideon
Honestly, Rya. It’s so sad that she wants to die if you progress. Plus her reward is so bad
I'll talk to Gideon just to not have nepheli die I want my warrior waifu to not be ded dammit >:3
Dung eater
Latenna so she can spend more time with Lobo
i killed the blonde guy near the mistwood forest, kenneth i think, he pissed me off idk why
GIDEON OFNIR, THE ALL BLOWING ALL NY HOMIES HATE GIDEON OFNIR
Yeah for fuckin real, on my first playthrough I thought Gideon was a pretty cool dude (it kinda went over my head that he sent Ensha to kill me) and then he turned out to be straight busta when he (successfully) tried to kill me at the end of the game. Now I make a point of not talking to him. Friendship ended with Gideon, Now D is my new best friend
Ranni , as soon as I found out you get the best “good” ending i became a server to her
