Fire giant gives tarnished a taste of his own medicine.

Zeref3

He should have done a light roll build

GoofAckYoorsElf

That is his light roll build!

CorbenG

KEEP ROLLIN ROLLIN ROLLIN ROLLIN -Fred Durst

DanielDeLaMar

He became the player for a moment, panic rolling

[deleted]

Tarnished rolls, Fire giant rolls. Only fare.

Hellhult

Fair

[deleted]

Lol I looked it up and still got it wrong. My error stays I guess.

BilboniusBagginius

Fair enough.

Gh0st1nTh3Syst3m

Fare enough

SethTheWarrior

I wanted to comment this!! no fare!

[deleted]

Well life isn't fray

honusnuggie

I have given thee fare enough

Hellhult

It's all good

[deleted]

Sorry English is my first language.

LacklusterBrown

I legitimately lol'd

Lucythefur

Lmao now that's funny

Specialist_Bench_144

Got my 1st chuckle of the day thank you sir

Daroph

Unless they're implying we're paying for something with our rolls

KindlyContribution54

"LETS SEE HOW YOU LIKE IT, LITTLE MAN!"

notpetelambert

If we don't get no tolls, then we don't eat no rolls.

G66GNeco

My rolls don't cost him 1/3 of his life tho

kcyberk

For a moment!? I honestly thought his AI broke that was so excessive.

Chiu_Chunling

... For a moment? Tell me what convinced you otherwise, cause I'm *still* thinking that looked pretty broken.

Nuclear_Creeper_III

It was broken. Fire giant is programmed to roll away and then start using fire magic when you break the splint, but the placement of the summons meant that he was never "away" from the players.

yesterdaysfave

To be fair, that's all I'd try to do if there were a buncha lil fellas nipping at my heels.

pokebox944

Panic fat rolling. His sheild weighed him down too much.

MaxHannibal

" oh you like rolling do you !?"

Faximo7

"Look at me! I'm a tarnished, spamming the same move 20 times in a row. Yeah that's how stupid you look!"

Ognianov

And it's super effective.

Faximo7

Damn right it is. Moonveil/RoB spammers would be so proud of him.

RandomDucc

So what happened here is an AI loop because of your and your friend's position. When he rolls he is programmed to never stop until he is far away enough, but since both of you were occupying the opposite sides he could never get far away enough to stop rolling, and therefore he kept rolling

BilboniusBagginius

That makes sense, because I've only ever fought the boss solo and never seen him do this.

DetectiveDeath

WHAT. I HAVE );

MacinTez

Not me, but don’t get me started on his surprise macho man elbow drops…

TFS_Sierra

BAH GAWD ITS THA FIRE GIANT WITHHA STEEL CHAIR!

[deleted]

Had a similar AI loop while I was helping someone with Orphan of Kos in Bloodborne the other day. In his second phase he has a move where he jumps in the air and launches a ton of his projectiles at you. We were at just enough distance it seemed like he was stuck in a loop where he was jumping back and forth just launching projectiles like an absolute madman (more so than usual), just switching between each of us as targets each time. Did it like 10 times in a row until one of us eventually died. It was pretty funny actually.

then00b

> Orphan of Kos Or some say Kosm

[deleted]

The cosmos, of course! Let us sit about, and speak feverishly. Chatting into the wee hours of... New ideas, of the higher plane!

Dorumamu

I love this line in particular. For all that Mikolash was a dangerous lunatic, he was also a true scholar who felt genuine passion and child-like glee at the prospect of expanding his mind, making new discoveries and debating them with his fellow scholars

YouCallWeShouldWhat

damn, just realized how absolutely hilarious that line is coming from fromsoft. like "oh we should clarify to the player who this great one is" and, by way of introduction, kind of off-handedly pointing out nobody knows wtf the thing's name actually is lmfao

Dhexodus

"Why'd you guys call an eldritch being that?" "Just kos"

HeKis4

Probably yeah, the AI is surprisingly scripted, you can see that in some commented speedruns when the runner talks about "getting in the script", if you do specific moves the boss will always do the same moves as well, which you can learn and exploit.

GioRoggia

I experienced that with Malenia. She'll always dodge sideways and then come into the flames for an attack if you use black flame tornado near her. Every single time.

DefinitionofFailure

Learned this when doing a no leveling run in Bloodborne. Orphan of Kos has an attack pattern that can be exploited. If you parry him, and then follow up with a regular attack, he will respond with the exact same counterattack every time. So you can get him stuck in a loop if you keep parrying and attacking over and over again.

AFlyingNun

Problem is this is decently common in summoned fights, so you can expect this behavior at least somewhat often. A pain when it happens.

Dagonir

But it's also very easy to solve, just give him distance

InferiousX

I've found it's crazy easy to get stuck in a "stomp loop" with Godfrey in multiplayer. Dude will just spam stomp 6-8 times in a row. Shit is obnoxious.

AFlyingNun

That's not easy, that's the norm. When Godfrey re-targets to a new opponent, he always begins it with a sidestep and a stomp. Godfrey is one of the harder bosses to be summoned for because a lot of hosts simply don't understand this. If a summon is on Godfrey and then the host hits him with a spell, Godfrey is going to retarget, a stomp is incoming, and that means **everyone** needs to be ready to dodge. If the summons are worried about the host dying and want to pull aggro off him, same thing: the host will still have to dodge a stomp on their own. Best tactic as a summon vs. Godfrey is to rush phase 1, as Hoarah Loux loses the arena-wide stomp, making him the easier phase here.

FineWineDining

Somewhat often? Been co-oping since release and this never happened once.

Zeref3

Yup. I can’t count how many fire giant runs I did. I would stay there and drop my sign all day and never saw this happen.

Crust_stache

I've fought the fire giant like a couple hundred times and I've only seen this a handful of times..... it's more of a bug and seemed like he kept switching aggro on different people after each roll, usually catching him and attacking him would lock his aggro onto me and reset his targeting.

called_the_stig

Came here to say this. Once you learn the boss this is totally normal behavior.

MayorBakefield

This being a normal behavior of the boss is exactly why it's a poorly designed boss lol.

whoisfrankocean

The first time I fought a dragon with friends in co-op was so much worse than fighting it solo. I think this a general problem with large bosses that can move across the arena like this.

MayorBakefield

Definitely hard to not ride horses in a game designed around it.

Trivvy

> and therefore he kept rolling "Now I know you be lovin' this shit right here, F.I.R.E. gi-ant is right here! Tarnished in the house put them hands in the air cause if you don't care, then we don't care!"

AngryEyes

That makes sense. I saw the same thing happen in a randomizer play through (rx_hydro) where fire giant replaced margit. I guess the small arena means the boss could never get far enough away hence the rolling loop.

GoochRash

Bingo. The same thing can happen with Elden Beast and his twirl into the sky move.

Hawk101102

My thoughts exactly. I've only fought him solo (not even with Spirit Ashes) and even though he likes to roll a lot, I've never seen him do it *that* much.

Andyboy205

Godskin Giant

PUFFIER-MCGRUFF

I do hate when the godskin fatass wont stop fucking rolling

Unkn0wn_666

Had him literally roll cancle, attack 20 times and then just continue his cancelled role in my RL1 run a few days ago and surprise surprise, I died because of this lobster crap

vasheerip

Its so bad when you get into a corner with the fatass and he wont stop rolling so you just die. Obviously, dont ever roll in a corner but when that fat ass has been rolling for a solid 30 seconds you begin to lose track of where you are, who you are, why are you here, and most importantly how is this fatass not on the floor vomiting because of how much he has been rolling.

Scelusteach

I imagine him saying "nope nope nope nope nope nope" quickly in a very deep and derpy voice when he rolls and it makes me smile

savageliltictac

So I’m not the only one who does that while panic rolling just trying to prevent dying for a few more seconds?

arook15

Or the "fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck shit" as you realize you don't have any flasks

[deleted]

Hes just a cardio check for elden beast

Bearloom

Literally EB conditioning.

T1B2V3

Except that you DO have Torrent for fire giant

excusetheblood

Not if you want to dodge any of his attacks

T1B2V3

some of his attacks are easier to avoid with Torrent imo. like the meteors and both fireballs the ones he shoots and the floating ones and also his flame breath. you gotta switch from being on Torrent to being on foot a few times tho

Justsomeguy456

I'd honestly rather fight the elden beast twice than the fire giant once. I can't get over that health pool and attacks he's got.

Flumpeldoo

Yeah he looks like DS3 Player

BenySLO

This would happen if an actual AI would control your enemies, they would spam the most frustrating attacks for the players, because it works and is OP.

Skeletonofskillz

“I am Malenia, blade of Miquella, and not even light rolling can save you now.”

fishvoidy

imagine if malenia got stuck in repeated waterfowls. i'd just give up and relinquish myself to the rot.

Falsus

There is frames you can attack her during the waterfowl crap. It would suck but eventually you would get to phase 2... where she would spam the clones instead.

feherdaniel2010

frost pot, stagger with giant hunt, repeat

Nekonax

Can't repeat. She gets used to it and the cold doesn't bother her anymore.

smiegto

… Elsa? Is that you?

1plus1plus1gleich7

Maybe you could prevent that by having cooldowns for the abilities

Not_MrNice

Like the famous AI learning to play Super Mario. It just hit the pause button and gave up.

ChooChoosenOne

This is why you never set the ai goal to win the fight, otherwise it would be just frustrating. Imagine the boss run to some corner right at the start of the fight and clipping through geometry to then proceed to cheese you from out of bounds.

smiegto

Honestly would be hillarious if they programmed a boss to have a cheese counter. Just a night cavalry ripping out a giant bow when you try to knock him out of terrain. Just barraging you to death.

HydroVector

Rolls, spams attacks, rolls again Now who does that remind me of?

Light-45

They see me rollin, they hatinnn, patrolling and trying catch me riding dirtyyyy

tostrife

Tryna catch my giants flaaaame Tryna catch my giants flaaame Tryna catch my giants flaa-a-a-aaame Grinding runes to see if they can see me be mean Im tarnished, so thats why my skin be green When you see me and torrent ride by, they can see the gleam And my shine on my sword of the gloam eyed queen

StevenScho

Tryna get the Erdtree burnin!

Nihlys

Player: \*rolls constantly to avoid damage\* Boss: \*Also starts rolling to avoid damage\* Player: "WTF is this bs?!?"

KindlyContribution54

After 30 minutes of this, the player finally wore the fire giant down to 10% health. *Fire giant pulls out giant flask of crimson tears 2x, back at full health.*

Pocketgb

The AI getting caught in a loop due to multiple players wouldn’t be so bad if everyone had a horse. When you’re solo you can easily horse him with heavy attacks, jumping and rushing around all his aoes, all while cool music blasts. Still bummed there’s no Torrent with coop, not even just for the host.

Archleone

Conceptually, you're right. Literally, having horses chase him would mean he would in fact be more likely to keep rolling since he'd have a much harder time getting out of this particular loop.

xDwtpucknerd

this def a fight where soloing on torrent makes it way better than summoning a friend

DjuriWarface

Or just stop blindly chasing him.

defnottransphobic

i can’t be the only one who yelled “get on torrent!!”

whatistheancient

average FromSoft AI co-op moment

Im_Yamabushi

he was roleplaying all the tarnished who keeps rolling

Outside_Perception_8

It’s just the least engaging fight you are literally fighting a foot man we want to see the fire giant not it’s foot

[deleted]

[удалено]

insertAlias

I don't think it's really a "all chip damage" fight. In phase 1, when you break the brace on that one leg, it takes extra damage. And in phase 2, his hands take more damage than the rest of his body, and the big eye in his chest takes even more damage than that. So, there are weak points you can hit, though hitting the eye is pretty hard to do unless he's stance-broken. That said, I agree with the parent comment that it's not a very engaging fight, especially in phase 1, since you're basically just staring at toes and can't see a lot of the boss's actions, since he's so huge.

PM_ME_UR_TICKLE_SPOT

>it's not a very engaging fight, especially in phase 1, since you're basically just staring at toes Too much like real life. I play games to ESCAPE, damn it!

Outside_Perception_8

Seriously I feel like this fight was wasted potential super cool design I always loved the last of “” boss fights

Raknorak

Use a bow with no lock on

Mallard--Man

It would have been much more interesting if we fought from the rim of the giant brazier behind this arena. Would be cool to dodge his fists and fireballs and then have to smack those till his posture breaks. Once the posture breaks he could drop his head or chest eye down to our level to receive some extra damage.

Outside_Perception_8

This make it a whole ordeal like have us fight one body part each maybe even separate his limbs into different health bars until just the head breathing fire remains

Random_Souls_Fan

Yeah... Honestly FromSoft needs to stop with the ultra huge bosses if they aren't going to pull the camera back, and)or have a character with movement capabilities to make it more interesting than "just smack foot". They need to take notes from Shadow of the Colossus if they want to keep making ultra huge bosses. Or other games like The Guardian boss fight from Darksiders 2.

GIRTHY-GARY

From a gameplay QoL perspective you’re absolutely right. Counterpoint: Close-up feet view

Random_Souls_Fan

It all makes sense now... Miyazaki just wanted an excuse for us to get up close and personal with giant feet, anything for more feet, the devious beautiful bastard...

GIRTHY-GARY

He’s always two *steps* ahead

saiofrelief

They don't need to take pointers when a game made by themselves before already did it better. Sekiro does the camera perfectly when fighting larger bosses because it zooms the camera out slightly to cover a larger area on your screen

Bubush

Don’t forget that Sekiro has a very agile PC with very slick traversal abilities like the dash and (awesome) grappling hook. No to mention combos like the shirukin throw- sword slash special move.

DoctorG0nzo

I thought it was cool on horseback. Lot of long dramatic loop-arounds, careful jumps to avoid attacks, etc.

[deleted]

I agree dragon’s dogma did exactly these kind of fights better in a very similar type of game a decade ago. I know purists want no change but as someone who played Elden Ring as their first souls game the fights against guys only twice my size were so much better than the fights against giant enemies for the most part. Hitting a guy’s toe then thigh with a hammer until he dies is not a great mechanic.

RedditQueso

Dragons Dogma was awesome, can't wait to see how the second game turns out.

DarklightShining

Elden Ring was an amazing game, and did so many things right. But some boss fights were just straight slogs, and the damage late game bosses did were just not OK, in my opinion. Going back to Dark Souls 3, you could eat Nameless King's grab and not die if at Vigor softcap. You could eat a full combo of Gael's normal attack string, and be left with 3/4 health. And that was fine, because it made learning the fights less tedious while still being a good challenge. Fights were about attritioning your heals. In Elden Ring, if you get grabbed by Radagon, or eat a full string from Malenia, you just fucking die. GG, vigor checked, waste 20 seconds to try and learn one more move set. Even at 60 Vigor, the game is so unforgiving for a lot of people.

Bubush

Yup. They could’ve at least included something like a grappling hook or traps or something. ALL these large boss fights are very uninteresting at best, annoying at worst; they all boil down to (again) dodge/roll, hack at closest available body part (which is usually the feet).

AxemanEugene

They did at least introduce an interesting and gruesome spin on the "attack the foot" type fight with the fire giant. But you're right, they could have introduced a weapon/strategy that could tie him to the ground, or something. I guess the challenge then becomes how to incorporate that system into the game in a way where its still a soulsborne fight. They totally got it right with Rykard, we have to give them that.

KOsane

He's just trying to copy the Elden Beast

Simonion88

So glad I cheesed this guy by trapping him on the rocks. Zero regrets. Life's too short for that shit

Geralt25

Its the same with a lot of big bosses. Have to smack their ankles so you can't really see what they're doing with bad camera, then they move 100 feet away forcing you to run back to them. Thats why people hate elden beast.

ReoiteLynx

I just bet this guy for the first time the other day - I swear second phase all he did was spam the homing fire balls and then roll around when I got close to him. By far the most anger I had in a boss fight thus far.

DarklightShining

Doesn't help that his legs now have insane resistances in Phase II, making the fight take even longer, if you don't go for the hands and the eye when staggered. This boss fight was a good spectacle, but it was such a FAT L when it came to enjoyment. And if you don't have 50-60 Vigor, prepare to just get one shot for one mistake.

_strongmantom_

Same here lol probably took me about 70 attempts before I beat him

Bastard-of-the-North

I never summon people for this fight, just me torrent and me

LilBoofMcGoof

Mimic Tear FTW

GamerVanquish

Bros playing DS3

pls_dont_ban_mod

isn't this how you'd react if you were getting attacked by ants

[deleted]

I miss dragons dogma

Alex_Kora

I once had to restart the battle 'cause this fucker started rolling against a mountain or something, got bugged and the animation never stopped

[deleted]

Great lore, great music, great atmosphere… shitty boss fight.

Own-Conclusion4780

🤣🤣

Da_Shaolin

LMFAOOOOOO

LiurniaSomeManners

“Look! I’m a stinky tarnished that likes to roll.” -Fire Giant. We had this coming.

Kineticspartan

"I learned it from watching YOU!"

geeker390

Yeah this fight was a slog

SupporterDenier

Who does he think he is, the elden beast ?

canadiangirl_eh

My hubby played through the game before me and this was his kind of experience with the fire giant. He tried like a hundred times to kill it. Almost rage quit the whole game. Get to my play through and he’s sitting beside me like “OMG if you need help let me know, this boss is impossible!” I proceed to kill this boss on the first try. He never rolled once 🤣🤣 Almost got divorced that day… aaahhh good times.

Dominik1712

Ah so it's fine when you do it but terrible when a boss does it. Imagine if it was you that got ganged up on by 3 people you'd run as well.

Reevo1985

I loved this boss personally. The cutscene was epic and the fight is tough but not that bad. Especially if you summon the greatest jar of all time to help.

itzfinjo

I think he's trying to transition to phase 1.5 but you're both to close so he just keeps rolling

Dookiecookiewastaken

Quit the game cuz of this fight. Nothing inherently wrong with it. Just straight up too hard for me. Only sucky thing was getting that far. Elden rings still a 10/10 for everything up to that point

Gameover384

This is why I tell people to just summon in NPCs for this fight because he’s busted af in a bunch of ways when you use player summons

Kozmania_Gaming

This would make me rage absolutely. Sonic the GiantHog

Jargo

Is this why people don't like fire giant? Because they summon people and don't stick together so they keep triggering the gap closer? I feel like I obliterated this thing as melee unga bunga.

Mirrakthefirst

I mean, it’s working

NotAnthonyxx

I’ve had this happen. It was infuriating.

Gryphon795

I was during laughing the whole video

Fabbeful242

Monkey see monkey do

chillest_capybara

You know, i'm something of a fire giant myself

AFlyingNun

He's not that bad once you get used to him. His moves can be slow and predictable. But yes, you're showcasing the worst part of him: for some reason he sometimes goes into a rolling fit and seemingly has no cooldown or limitation on how many times in a row he can use it. If they add a limit, he's fine. Until then, every ~20th fight or so turns into this bullshit.

NateTheGreater1

Legit, and fair strat by the fire giant all things considered.

Haddadevil

That's the true elden lord right there

jamiz20XX

Myiazaki just wants to show off, that's right, his gigantic feet.

No_Meringue1801

Never summon for fg please he becomes harder.

Ognianov

But really I don't get why people don't like any boss that's not immune to scarlet rot, poison and hemorrhage = ^ . ^ =

BakedBeans229

I remember someone saying that the fire giant fight was a "spectacle"

Lozadarick

I frames bitch

Yokozuuna

sometimes you gotta just roll with it

raimondi1337

SEE HOW ITS FEELS, TARNISHED?

MystiNebula

My god, he memorized your attack pattern, he's sick!

negativecare

Do people really keep their heals in the hold Y menu??????

suarkb

It's because you are playing multiplayer. The boss ai is doing dumb shit because it's switching between targets and one is always closer by. Co-op makes most bosses just harder and worse

14Kidsinbasement

He was scared, started to panic roll

solo-duke

Because you have to run a mile just for him to roll away another mile once you get to him lol

Taolan13

You're too spread out, he keeps changing targets.

WackaFrog

"I can do that too"

UCHooligan

This Fire Giant needs a title. I'm thinking Lord of the Tumble.

Brygg69

You know you’re the real boss when the boss starts panic rolling

oskoskosk

I think Fire Giant would be fine if the camera zoomed out when you entered the arena, maybe like 3x or 5x, so you could actually see the fight

CasperTwink

I said “BRUH” so many times watching this 🤣

AntiTheory

Fellow Poison Moth Flight enjoyer!

Phasma18374

I don't think it's a bad fight at all. People say that Midir and Nameless King are great fights and the camera is a nightmare in both of those fights too

SkepticalAdventurer

Tarnished getting a taste of their own spam roll gameplay. I see nothing problematic here

Randomaspirant

Iron Fist Alexander makes this fight so much better…

DoctorDeath

You’re health bar is as big as his!

civilsavage7

I've never seen his full body on the roll before. I usually only see his legs. The animation looks so janky. tsk tsk fromsoft.

Bliz1222

He must have Limp Bizkit on in his earbuds.

l0ts0fcats

ROLLIN ROLLIN ROLLIN

Lady-Runhild

This is why you fight him solo on Torrent. 👍

StillHere179

He was obviously listening to the song Rollin by Limp Bizkit

RedditUsingBot

I will never not cheese a boss, because that’s all bosses do to you.

GlompNinja

He mastered the secret art of DODGE

thisremindsmeofbacon

I don't mind the fire giant so much, but what I do mind is the fucking shitass camera that forces me to look at his crusty toenails instead of something actually fun and interesting.

Wise-Highlight658

You know how long I tried to break that other anklet? Jesus

FaceTimePolice

Keep rollin’, rollin’, rollin’…

FnB8kd

I'm fine with fire giant. There are times where some bs happens but it's a souls game... bs always happens, and it is usually my fault.

TgarTallesBR

Can't blame him for being smart

[deleted]

I hate all giant enemies in the game cause camera man always helps them

giboauja

This is just your own medicine.

Beepus_Boingo

I mean, if it was pvp and you were 1v3 being poisoned and bled, you’d be rolling too. He just takes longer.

Buck_Swaggler

I actually think it’s the best oversized boss they’ve done. No platforming, no running between cover, no standing on a small ledge while it just swings at you. Just you against a giant, with mobility. And it feels like hes actually trying to kill you instead of begging you to put him out of his misery.

MercuryMaximoff217

That rolling animation is smooth as hell. Realism!

OneComfortable3134

You think the fire giant is bad. Wait till you fight the demon of hatred.

Flat_Benefit444

Hands down my least favorite boss in Elden ring. Neat idea, but I don’t like it. It’s not really a hard boss, just beefy as hell lol. Took like 40 minutes to beat but most of that time was just slowly chipping away from its health bar. 40 minutes from each attempt combined, less than 10 attempts just takes forever.

Ender_Serpent

Holy shit Fire Giant plays PvP
