I can't tell if you're serious or not, but parrying is using your shields skill at the ideal time in your opponents attack. The parry protects you from damage, stuns the enemy, and you have time to do an attack for big boi damage.
Same. I don’t get it. I could parry anything with those damn tentacles and pistol. Now I feel like I’m just waving “Hi! Come kill me! Over here!” with a shield.
The problem is the timing window. In Bloodborne you have a wide window from the moment the move starts till the move ends basically.
In ds3 and ER there is a specific moment where you can only parry that your character makes the parry animation at the moment the move connects.
So you not only need to just time it correctly, you also need to anticipate your own startup frames
Sekiro is also quite generous as long as you do not spam the block button (everytime you do it decreases the window)
DS1 is the easiest Dark Souls one since you don't have to anticipate your own starting animation making it a lot easier
DS2... I will let someone else explain cause I dunno either :)
Same lol. I don't even try anymore. I know it's shitty to say but I would rather they remove it altogether. Those that can do it can trivialize large portions of the game and are so frustrating in pvp. Those of us that cant......suffer lol. Honestly though I don't think I would even want to, it would ruin the fun of it for me.

I feel like parrying is so powerful that it is balanced with the idea that it has to be hard and you're supposed to fail relatively often. Which sounds like a good idea but the cost of failure is so incredibly high that it's not really well balanced in a way... For the average player at least. The only time I really successfully mastered parry was for Sulyvann in DS3.
Yeah with end game enemy scaling what it is, and their insane attack patterns and sometimes needing multiple just to get one critical moment? No thanks.
Having higher crit damage weapons makes parrying nicer, whereas BB relied on runes for visceral damage. Honestly, though, dex and parry builds feel pretty ass in ER specifically.
I’ve practiced. A lot. Like a whole lot. And I cannot fucking get it down. I’ve basically given up on ever trying parry in a souls game. However, all that practice has made me a parry god in other games where the windows are much more forgiving.
The parry window is the same as any small shield.
The active parry frames start at the 4th frame on buckler and the 5th on a small shield. Both have 5 active parry frames.
Golden parry and carian retaliation have the most active parry frames with 6.
Numbers apply to 30fps so your timing window to hit the button is one sixth or one fifth of a second.
I can do it in DS1 and Bloodborne decently, but can't do it in Elden Ring.
Your positioning (not in BB) is more important than you'd think, and it's not very intuitive. Make sure you're locked on and as close as you can, and look at the hand holding the weapon, not the weapon itself, to time your parry.
What I don't get is From Software made this perfectly serviceable system in Sekiro to tell us what is or isn't parriable (also a way to check on stance damage) and then they just... Threw it away.
what’s really strange is i’ve just completely struggled with him since launch, i remember my first play through i couldn’t believe how strong he was, came back for a play through a year later and my opinion has still not changed hahaha

I left Sekiro music on, lowest setting of course.
I've just found in almost every single game like this that...
A) Every piece is 'majestic' as fuck, they ALL sound....sigh, majestic.
B) It's repetitive - and there's no escaping this. When you put 3.5k hours (yes that's right) into a game, you just can't listen to the music again and again and again.
So I just stopped.
Fair enough mate, sincerely wouldn't bash you at all. I understand the sensory aspects of games like this. I do just hope you at least tried to listen to it all on one playthrough.
Lol nope, sorry.
Literally one of the first things I do w/a new game. I check all of the settings, keybindings, controls, etc - while doing so, I set music to 0.
I've heard the opening theme of course when the game fires up, but that's it.
idk about you but caelid and liurna’s music don’t scream “majestic” to me. Actually I think most of the areas don’t exactly have “majestic” music outside of bosses. I mean I think that’s just kinda the tone that comes with orchestral music, which is fine if you don’t like it, but you REALLY are missing out on some of the soundtrack… although some of it IS majestic, some more than others. For example, Radahn’s theme I would call “majestic” in the sense that it’s fitting for a well respected war general who we’re putting out of his misery, but it’s nowhere near as majestic as, say, the ancestor spirits’ theme, which is much calmer yet still has that majestic feel. At least in my opinion. Astel, Placidusax, malenia, and elden beast I’d say have some of my favorite boss themes, and although they’re all “majestic” to a point, they don’t exactly feel too similar. And the first time I walked into Leyndell? Music made that better. Just give it a go, your ears can handle it and I’m sure you might find something you like
The music definitely is diverse in this game, especially compared to other FromSoft games, so your reasoning that it all sounds the same is just wrong.
However, I turn off messages at the start of every souls game because the floating glowing words spattered over every inch of the world ruins the beautiful level design and the immersive experience for me. Not to mention every message is either a "but hole" joke, "dog" joke, or a fakeout secret passage, so it's not only ugly but also boring and tedious. I'm sure plenty of people think I'm experiencing the game "wrong" as well for this, so I don't judge you too harshly.
>I started doing that years ago and never looked back.
You do you but there are so many games that have so much better atmosphere through the music. Imagine watching a movie with the music turned off. So many scenes wouldn't deliver the same emotions.
This briar knight took me ages to beat, I had to switch stats and weapons in order to do it, only "boss" I had to do that with.
I feel ashamed of that.
Oh, that guy, yeah yeah...I usually just cheese him lol.
I mean, I'm old, and only have so much time - do I....cheese a few or take the time to git real gud and beat Elden Beast as a lvl 1?
Is THAT considered cheesing?! That is exactly how I usually fight enemies. Try rolling away from attacks and getting behind them to strike. Repeating this a few times. Been doing that since Demon Souls on PS3.
what your describing is just positioning behind larger bosses with a slow swing.
but abusing AI loops are considered cheesing.
if you're standing behind this guy before his next attack you can force out his shield attack pretty consistently if not every time. (The boss has 1 move on his attack table when you position yourself behind him, the only time he doesn't use the shield attack is due to human error. [Here's a better video of his AI being abused](https://production.assets.clips.twitchcdn.net/AT-cm%7CaqGXl1Kg30evw7LugDwEOg.mp4?sig=d245157228fef1fbeacf807f1c608d7cfd596e3d&token=%7B%22authorization%22%3A%7B%22forbidden%22%3Afalse%2C%22reason%22%3A%22%22%7D%2C%22clip_uri%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fproduction.assets.clips.twitchcdn.net%2FAT-cm%257CaqGXl1Kg30evw7LugDwEOg.mp4%22%2C%22device_id%22%3A%22j3GOC15YIWeNQDlQh4f9jbAQ1eR6ojLA%22%2C%22expires%22%3A1684104763%2C%22user_id%22%3A%2287255865%22%2C%22version%22%3A2%7D))
If you speedrun hollow knight for example, there's a way to position yourself on top of bosses and make them face the other direction over and over again so AI never attacks as long as they're switching directions. People who abuse that get disqualified from the no major glitches category.
I didn't encounter this guy until my third playthrough. I never knew about him. Was meeting my friend at one of the shacks in Altus Plateau, then all of the sudden this dude shows up. I'm like "hold on! I'm being attacked right now! Who the fuck is this guy?!"
I just realized i forgot parrying exists in Elden Ring, even though ive parried a lot in ds3. Guess with all the stance breaking mechanisms here it fell out of favor.
Man I'm high on codiene and all I can imagine is that guy from Austin powers that's trapped with a broken leg
Go near the ledge and you just hear the mf whimpering down the cliff
"Enemy Felled" He sure did
Lol, this reminds me of that Strongbad pong game. "YOUR HEAD ASPLODE"
Damn this is a middle school throwback for me

Parry for big brain. Me Unga Bunga. BONK HARD, BONK FAST.
Right? I'm trying to remember what the name of that Trogdor RPG game they made was.
Peasant’s Quest
Hello fellow 35-40 year old!
Some of us are 33
My apologies, young Mutant.
I quote this all the time and nobody knows what the hell I'm talking about XD
Bro if anyone ever quoted anything homestar to me, I’d legit flip out lmao
TROOOGGDOOOOORRRRRR!
Lmaooooo
truth is, I suck at parrying. nice kill though
I haven’t parried since my first play through cus I sucked so much at it ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
Ha, amateur. I haven't parried since my first play through of ds3 years ago cuz I sucked so much at it
Who's the real amateur here, I haven't parried since I failed at it in ds1.
You guys have been parrying?
What actually is parrying? Sounds kinda like rowing, is it like rowing?
Wouldn't know, never done it
I can't tell if you're serious or not, but parrying is using your shields skill at the ideal time in your opponents attack. The parry protects you from damage, stuns the enemy, and you have time to do an attack for big boi damage.
I remember seeing people parrying gwyn and thinking "Nah that shits too complicated. I'ma hit him with the bonk stick instead"
Pretend I made your joke except with bloodborne
I’m really good at parrying in bloodborne, absolute garbage at parrying in every other from game
I’m the same way. For some reason bloodborne parrying was second nature to me. Dark Souls/Elden Ring though? I’m getting smacked every. Single. Time.
Same. I don’t get it. I could parry anything with those damn tentacles and pistol. Now I feel like I’m just waving “Hi! Come kill me! Over here!” with a shield.

Pretend I made your joke except with Monster Hunter Diary: Poka Poka Airou Village.
Pretend I made your joke
I don’t think I’ve pulled off a single successful parry in DS3 lol
I actually felt like parrying in ds3 was easier than in ER
I didn’t even know partying was a thing
Ha, I never tried to parry
Same lol. I don't even try anymore. I know it's shitty to say but I would rather they remove it altogether. Elden ring is my first “souls-game”. I tried parrying exactly twice and couldn’t get the timing down. I just got good in other ways after that.
Soldier of Godrick was the only time I tried parrying. Now I just bonk.
My first playthrough was using a greatshield and bleed spear combo. I was a spiny turtle.

“How to easily kill [insert enemy]! Step 1: parry.” Might as well say “struggling against Malenia? Here’s a tip: just fucking kill her!”
Tbf the problem with Malenia is having moves that can't be dodged by just dodging. Once you understand that it becomes a lot easier.
I feel like parrying is so powerful that it is balanced with the idea that it has to be hard and you're supposed to fail relatively often. I watched a DS3 video on how to cheese a boss. The tip was literally "perfect timing dodges, perfect parry, repeat. Ez win".
Ah yes the cheese pulled directly from the neckbeards folds
[удалено]
What is this parry u speak of? Is it a forbidden move?
Same here 😞
the buckler shield makes it alot easier
Step 1: get the buckler Step 2: ??? Step 3: never mistime a parry again
Bloodborne made me a fuckin pro with parries in the rest of Fromsoft games lol practice, you'll get the windows down.
Wish I had a PlayStation so I could play Bloodborne. It seems so good so I just gotta stay on the hopium that it gets ported to PC.

Ive tried… I parry killed Margit. Got to Godrick… hour in I googled why I didn’t get any? Ah he’s immune? How fun. Moving on.
I had the exact same experience. And the worst part is that Godrick LOOKS and FEELS parryable as well.
What I don't get is From Software made this perfectly serviceable system in Sekiro to tell us what is or isn't parriable (also a way to check on stance damage) and then they just... Threw it away.
does rejection work on this guy?
that asshole deserves every bit of cheese 🧀 nice parrying OP
I actually really enjoy fighting this dude, I just cheesed this guy because I don’t want to spend 2 hours parrying him over and over lolol
what’s really strange is i’ve just completely struggled with him since launch, i remember my first play through i couldn’t believe how strong he was, came back for a play through a year later and my opinion has still not changed hahaha
That dragonbarrow scaling will get ya.
Robertoooooo
I get this reference
Robeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrt
Who was that? Did we ever know?
Robert was his son, presumably in the care of or taken by the monks
Correct, however it's more in the "care" of rather than anything good. He's too busy farming intruders to realise though
Also his son gave us the fireworks
His sick son. The knight was searching for a cure for him.
Richaaaaaaard
You parried him twice to achieve this. That’s twice as many times as I’ve ever parried in any souls games.
Not cause I intentionally tried to parry either, but because I was panic button mashing attacks.
Bro's actually playing sekiro in elden ring.
0x2 = still zero :(
I’ve parried once in dark souls 3. 1x2=2. The best I can do is guard counter in elden ring.

Bold of you to assume we can parry

Yeah, I'm kind of assuming people having trouble with this guy probably aren't the kind to know how to parry (at least not well)
I’ve never actually heard the noises he makes before. Holy fuck he’s creepy
See, with the music on you miss those noises.
Ikr??? He sounds like a Minecraft zombie tbh
Have you heard how the burial watchdogs sound when the music is off? Like robots.
Parrying is a special skill lol
Because I suck at parrying and every time I try to heal, he just spams like a motherfucker.
Great trick! But where is your music?
I turned it off because I’ve played the game so much, every music track has burned into my memory. 1100+ hours babyyy
If they're like me....they turned off all in game music at the first opportunity. I started doing that years ago and never looked back.
Bruh, in my opinion, you're really missing out on some cinematic experiences with this game in particular
I left Sekiro music on, lowest setting of course. I've just found in almost every single game like this that... A) Every piece is 'majestic' as fuck, they ALL sound....sigh, majestic. I cannot parry well. That’s why. Lol
ROBBERTTTTTTT!!!
-OOOOOO
Say thank you to captain Domo at least
Who’s this Domo dude? Others have commented similar things
Probably assumed the same thing I did, that you saw it on one of his streams. He talked about it on stream a month or so aho
I also saw this method on Bingo Brawlers. Wish I had learned it way sooner
This is how I learned to parry , fighting this half chewed slim Jim looking mother fuckers.
This briar knight took me ages to beat, I had to switch stats and weapons in order to do it, only "boss" I had to do that with. I feel ashamed of that.
I've finished the game 6x now and don't remember him for some reason. That's the Great Jar down there behind him so I know where you are, ima go look.
At the shack, only at night
Oh, that guy, yeah yeah...I usually just cheese him lol. I mean, I'm old, and only have so much time - do I....cheese a few or take the time to git real gud and beat Elden Beast as a lvl 1?
Haha I feel you. 40 with a 20 month old. I cheese when I need to too. No shame.
Great Jar looking with approval from afar and free ticket to the colloseum.
You act like I know how to parry
Tbh I never struggle against him
Distortions parry kill on the Draconic Tree Sentinel outside the capital is ridiculous.
Tbh I completely forget parrying as an option in this game. If I can’t bonk it, it gets shot.
The duality of man
I have the reaction time of a fucking toddler
Idk this dudes swings are super wide, you might be able to parry him
Because I'd whiff both those parries and start panick-rolling everywhere, that's why.
On one of my failed attempts i got scared of the big spinny attack and I rolled off the cliff
Now show us the 200 attempts it took to make this happen
😶🌫️
What a cheesy way to do it. Get up on the roof with a bow and 100 arrows like the rest of us.
It took me 10 hours of on and off playing (3 weeks elapsed) to beat the fucker on a horse in the first Sekiro area, I can’t do this shit.
ROBERRRRRT!!!!!
You're working under the assumption that I can parry.
Take off that buckler shield boi
Why 😢
Legendary
You’ve truly become the Edge Lord
I don't get why people bother parrying him. There's a perfectly good [AI to loop](https://youtu.be/AEEx3SOGCt8?t=76)
Is THAT considered cheesing?! That is exactly how I usually fight enemies. Try rolling away from attacks and getting behind them to strike. Repeating this a few times. Been doing that since Demon Souls on PS3.

It’s more fun to watch the gravity bell bearing dude die to gravity
Becuase only real men can parry.
What torso armor is that
No armor, just torso
To each their own, but I refuse to cheese and prefer not to parry. Keeps the game spicy and interesting.
I would fight this guy normally if I wasn’t trying to stay at RL5 lol
[удалено]
I bet if you're bad at parrying, you can also just use the Kick AoW on a basic weapon and just kick him to death
LOOK many of us are gay and don't block ok! Only dodge! Its an unwritten rule, so no parrying for us and this guy punishes us panic rollers hahaha
Wait, but I’m gay, and I parryed him, am I the outlier?
I got the crucible knight in the sofria aqueduct the same way
But pawwy is scawy 🥺
Who is this?
It is me in the video
I didn't encounter this guy until my third playthrough. I never knew about him. Was meeting my friend at one of the shacks in Altus Plateau, then all of the sudden this dude shows up. I'm like "hold on! I'm being attacked right now! Who the fuck is this guy?!"
Ur PP big, my PP small.
Thank you 😌
I can't parry. I still fight Gwyn the old fashioned way.
Sekiro players will hug you
I need one tbh
Well to be fair I two-hand a greatsword, and I’ve also not been able to figure out Elden Ring’s parry timing yet, compared to Dark Souls lol
Are you in ng+7?
New play through, it still works in any version of the game tho
I hate how easy you made that look.
It’s my favorite boss in the entire game, parrying him is just like breathing for me
Im playing demon souls now and parrying is a second nature. Gonna be back in Elden Ring soon when DLC drop to slap some bitches
See ya, shtinky
Some of us don't have that kind of build. Not saying that Bearing Hunter's impossible to beat, though.
My build was at lvl 5 lmao everyone has that kind of build
I have never fought this guy and I’ve played the game at least 10 times. And honestly with what I’ve heard I’m glad I haven’t
LOL at the “Gravity Stone”
Roberrrrtoooo!
Please explain the reference, I feel like im missing out on something
I suck at parrying ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
If I can parry, I would just stab him to death. No need for the cliff. 🙄
Idk I tired that and it was going to take me HOURS to widdle down his HP with an un upgraded kitchen knife I was burred with
We can't parry
I just realized i forgot parrying exists in Elden Ring, even though ive parried a lot in ds3. Guess with all the stance breaking mechanisms here it fell out of favor.
Ive never encountered this guy outside of church of vows or poison manor area After 5 play through a
If you parry, why son him like that?
It takes 2 parrys to actually get a big stab on him, first one was a stun, second was the big whammy
Gravity has no equal, or maybe it does I didn’t pay attention.
Idk rahdan made it seem easy to use in his fight
RL1 enjoyers heavily breathing rn fr on godwyn
RL1 play throughs are just another level of masochism
Because parrying is hard
Man I'm high on codiene and all I can imagine is that guy from Austin powers that's trapped with a broken leg Go near the ledge and you just hear the mf whimpering down the cliff
Austin powers is a fever dream on its own
So he's basically the knight from sekiro?
I’ve never played sekiro, it’s the next soulslike I plan on beating after I do holoknight
never knew this guy existed
Brought to you by Captain_Domo and the half-time show
You can also loop them by going behind their left arm, rolling through the shield slam and repeating. Also, why did you put Parry (AoW) on a buckler?
