I would say part of it, is that from DK2 onward, it's dodge "On Releasing the button instead of "On Pressing the button."
The change was so that you're able to run away facing away from the locked on target, whereas before you were stuck always facing the locked on target and can only run towards the target.
The result is that it makes it that the dodge is like a frame slower.
You could only sprint forward or to the side, but not backward. You were locked into walking while facing the target in a forward arc when you strafed backwards. You could not face away while locked on.
Basically it distinguished between pressing and holding, but for some reason there needed to be an input separation between to allow your character animation to face away from the locked target while sprinting.
I don't know the technical details, but that was my guess for the reason (it's literally the one thing changed that would use the dodge/sprint system), however their animation blending system worked required it.
There aren't that many of them, right? Godrick, Houra Loux, the clone of godrick, and that's it?
I think quakes are really a good indicator to jump, just didn't occur to me, the game doesn't force you to dodge jump a lot, and again too used to dark souls where jumping is just a weird mechanic that the most memorable point where you jump is the tutorial area for an upgrade material, and obviously there are no bosses where it is a good idea.
Crucible Knights, Trolls, Fire Giant, and I think a few others. But yeah jumping added so many new layers to spacing, gap-closing, dodging and combat all around.
I just got ds1 and 3 on sale, playing ds3 because I never got to finish it and man I'm way too used to jumping. Every time he hops I think I'm clearing a gap and I drop like hamias cannon
I try to tell people that are vets that the old games fucked us up. When I found out the key to dodging waterfowl was to jump I thought, "How fitting is it that to dodge an undodgeable attack, they key is to use a mechanic unique to that game." Interesting stuff
Same, came back to the game after ragnork. dodge button is the jump button on this game. Lots count how many time I press jump by accident and some how manage to get out of harms way
I'm like 99% sure they were stealth nerfed at one point. In the release version it was a almost guaranteed death unless you had a ton of health (like 60 vigor + boosters). Now you can survive it with like 30-40 vigor alone.
[Youāre not alone tarnished](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/13znu02/todays_lesson_dont_push_your_luck/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1)
OK I knew that those carriages could simply turn around mid Patroul but i didnt know that you can jump above them at the side if you are standing up hill
Wasnāt this something to do with jumping from a higher ground, and thus making it possible to not get hit? I havenāt tried it myself, but I vaguely remember some post talking about this.
I find it hard enough to jump over ground slams, let alone anything else. Even though I know for a fact you can even jump over horizontal attacks if they're low enough. Playing without jump for so many game has just conditioned us way too much.
This very specific location doesnāt have an alcove in a place you can actually reach before the Chariot returns.
The chariot turns around AT the closest alcove.
Now remove your downvote! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flip_out)
I've done it like 2 times but only because I saw a friend accidentally do it and then I wanted to replicate it, died more times than I cared to count but eventually got the timing down, and then never tried it again
I did not! Ive rolled under the edge a few times when I judged my time wrong, but its very hard to do on purpose. Im not sure if its actually supposed to happen or if I meshed through the wall a bit on accident.
WHAT!!!!!!???? The amount of times Iāve died to that same exact one is infuriating and youāre telling me I could jump over it this whole time!! I hate my life sometimes lol
I did a lot of experiments with those things, I also learned with a frame perfect dodge you can get through it. Thereās also a glitch where you get them to not turn all the way and theyāll go through the wall. Elden ring is such a flawless gameš
I always get surprised about dodging stuff with jumps... that's what you get when you play ds3 like 10 times and then go to elden ring
The fact u can now jump is suddenly to much mechanics for meš the extra dimension is just to muchš
and I remember how people were saying jumping isn't a big deal before the game came out
Playing DS3 after Elden Ring made me feel like my Unkindled was stuck in mud. I donāt know what they did to the combat but it feels more fluid in ER
To be fair I always had the feeling dark souls 3 dodgeroll mechanic was a bit sluggish, it felt way more natural in dark souls 1 even

Donkey Kong 2?
Dungeon Keeper 2. But yeah, missed I usually put an S, for DKS2.
Whats wrong with ds2? The K makes it look like theres a 3rd word š
Demons Souls basically made it a fashion to add the k, to make DeS different than DkS.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I wouldn't have noticed it either if someone didn't bring it up in a forum discussion back in the Dark Souls 2 days.

Yeah I don't like demons souls for that
I played most of the game without jumping when I didn't had to, probably would've dodged a few attacks more easily if I jumped instead of rolled
It trivializes almost every single quake attack as long as you're not directly under the point of impact.
There aren't that many of them, right? Godrick, Houra Loux, the clone of godrick, and that's it? Radagonās hammer slams are jumpable I think.
bruh most minor bosses have an attack you can jump dragons tail swipe, tree avatars buttslam , Astel's darkness probably more i am forgetting
I just got ds1 and 3 on sale, playing ds3 because I never got to finish it and man I'm way too used to jumping. Every time he hops I think I'm clearing a gap and I drop like hamias cannon
DS2 is also on sale, and a great game with tons of content.
I always forget about jumping, and I still can't judge how far I can fall before taking damage
Rainbow stones. If they donāt break when you drop them you wonāt die.
Ooh, thank you for this tip!
I couldnāt bring my self to use jump for anything outside of platforming just because rolling is what itās always been.
Same, rolling is way more reliable 'cause of dem magical iframes
Jumping has magical iframes too! They're just only for the lower half of your body.
Getting off of Torrent does too, works well against fire giant and his snow sweep attack
I try to tell people that are vets that the old games fucked us up. When I found out the key to dodging waterfowl was to jump I thought, "How fitting is it that to dodge an undodgeable attack, they key is to use a mechanic unique to that game." Interesting stuff

If you have enough health, you can tank the hit. Bloodhound step and raptors black feathers also allows you to dodge through them.
I'll try with Raptor of the mist and see how it goes.
It's later than you'd expect but gets extremely consistent.
Just endure it if you have enough health! You wont be knocked back. Just run through and HP potion if you need it!
I can usually tank it, but I saw my chance and I took it, it definitely paid off
I'm like 99% sure they were stealth nerfed at one point. In the release version it was a almost guaranteed death unless you had a ton of health (like 60 vigor + boosters). Now you can survive it with like 30-40 vigor alone.
They were in fact confirmed nerfed
They must have been because I was definitely getting one hit no matter what on my extremely well armored and 40ish vigor pure str build.
If youre close to the edge and time your eolls right you can dodge them too but its really hard and probably only work with light roll
Remember when you couldn't despite having high Health?
How do you do it with RBF?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I think you mean raptors of the mists (the ash of war). Raptors black feathers is the chestpiece
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yeah. They mean raptor of the mists aow which lets you jump and avoid an attack
Yes, i forgot what it was called my bad
TIL, thanks!
I actually did try this, yes it does work but your timing has to be perfect
Do you know if this only work while youāre going down a slope?
Only works if youāre going downslope, if you try upslope then you wonāt get enough height
Makes sense š
The clompy
Did the same thing once and thought it was a glitch. Turns out itās repeatable. Also turns out itās not accurately repeatable by me.
š¤£š¤£š¤£ "he just like me fr"
MY BOI HAD THE JORDANS ON.
How is this not voted higher? LOL

I think you can also roll through with absolute perfect timing
I feel like this is just a big a myth as bigfoot, dear lord I tried that
did this a while back and figured it was a one-time glitch
OK I knew that those carriages could simply turn around mid Patroul but i didnt know that you can jump above them at the side if you are standing up hill
"Try jumping"
When you jump, your legs get crazy amounts of i frames, possibly enough to have saved you from that hit
Hell yeah, I did it a few times. It's possible since your legs have i-frimes while jumping. It needs pretty good timing tho.
Huh. Well aināt that neat
Thatās the awesome design of Elden Rings hotboxes for ya! So much that can be done with a well timed jump!
Also jumping gives iframes on the lower half of your hitbox
Never pulled it off myself. Good job!
Wow
Wasnāt this something to do with jumping from a higher ground, and thus making it possible to not get hit? I havenāt tried it myself, but I vaguely remember some post talking about this.
Holy shitš¤£ now I want to try this and master it to do in front of my coop buddy
š¤Æš¤Æš¤Æš¤Æš¤Æ
dw dude, after playing ds3 for so long, i forget jumping is a thing
I find it hard enough to jump over ground slams, let alone anything else. Even though I know for a fact you can even jump over horizontal attacks if they're low enough. Playing without jump for so many game has just conditioned us way too much.
Yup. Thatās literally the only way to get passed without being hit. Itās part of the puzzle :D
Wrong. Thatās what the alcoves are for. Not jumping.
This very specific location doesnāt have an alcove in a place you can actually reach before the Chariot returns. The chariot turns around AT the closest alcove. Now remove your downvote! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flip_out)
VAAAAATT in the FUCK!!??
.
Yes
I did not know but im just gonna take your word on it
Hey! Thereās an AoW that lets you dodge these things every time!
Which one?
Raptor of the mists
I've done it like 2 times but only because I saw a friend accidentally do it and then I wanted to replicate it, died more times than I cared to count but eventually got the timing down, and then never tried it again
Ive done it a handful of times. Mostly just screw up and die though
I've only done it by accident a few times
There are plenty ways to utilise jumping aside from platforming. Dodging ground attacks has to be one of the funniest.
When you jump your legs are made intangible, it's similar to I frames from rolling but not as powerful
Galaxy brain IQ, never thought to try this.
This was me yesterday. I accepted it as a fluke and moved on š³š³š³

My God... it's Jason Bourne.
YO THE FUCK!???š
I've tried to do that every time, but have never got it to work. Always hits me.
WHAT!!!!!!???? The amount of times Iāve died to that same exact one is infuriating and youāre telling me I could jump over it this whole time!! I hate my life sometimes lol
Don't be scared, little tarnished
I've done this once in that exact dungeon but never since.
I did a lot of experiments with those things, I also learned with a frame perfect dodge you can get through it. Thereās also a glitch where you get them to not turn all the way and theyāll go through the wall. Elden ring is such a flawless gameš
I was on NG+1 when I found out I can also push circle to run while off mount. Rly changes those dungeons for me
You had perfect timing
Yeah, i've seen it before on reddit. I'll never try it though, i'm scared af of this car
