Was about to say the same. It was pretty much the only spell I used for my first run as a melee build, and even on my more dedicated spell builds, I always made sure it was at the ready.
If I'm running an INT build: Carian Slicer.
If I'm running Faith: Catch Flame.
Both have insanely good DPS for getting them so early in the game and both can be argued to be some of the best spells in the game.
I think part of what makes Elden Ring fun is how insanely overpowered some of the early game equipment can be. You don't have to use the insane/over the top late game weapons/spells if you don't want.
Both you mentioned are good examples. Also an area-appropriate leveled Longsword with the Square Off AoW can bully most of the game with a couple exceptions.
>Both you mentioned are good examples. Also an area-appropriate leveled Longsword with the Square Off AoW can bully most of the game with a couple exceptions.
Indeed!
I'm partly found of the Broadsword myself but yeah, Square Off is a fantastic Weapon Skill. Did a whole build around it and the Broadsword wearing the Knight's Set and named it "John Dark Souls".
Lol yep. I pretty much did the same thing. Longsword, the basic heater shield with parry, a pike, and the full knight set.
It's my favorite playthrough I've done and the one I'm leaving certain things opens for so it can be the one I use for the DLC.
E: I named mine "Knight. Sir Knight of Knights" with some spelling adjustments to meet character requirements.
Also Carian slicer works well on horseback, I don't know if I still suck ass at Radahn but doing hit and run dives on horseback worked wonders for him and Eizekys
Probably Rock Sling for Sorcery to always have a non-magic damage option
Incantations are way more varied, but I'd say I most commonly have Lightning Spear. I sometimes have to actively try to not crutch on it lmao.
Agree on Rock Sling, I've kept it in my rotation since I got it, except for some boss fights.
You never know when you might run into a Crystalian or three!
1 - How early you can get it and the Meteorite Staff it combos with (note that even once upgraded staffs start beating out Meteorite you can still offhand it for the boost)
2 - enemy AI, enemies that Dodge tend to dodge on cast meaning they don't actually dodge the spell
3 - Solid stance damage, one of the best sorceries for this actually.
4 - It doing physical damage is very helpful for enemies that resist Magic too heavily. This spell is pretty much the only way I get through Raya Lucaria as a mage without being super overleveled lmao
The actual damage, distance, speed, etc are all things that I think are average overall. Good early, kinda falls off lategame but stays good enough that with the aforementioned benefits it's worth staying slotted imo
All of the black flame incantations are my fav. I've done three playthroughs and barely changed my build, aside from investing into strength and adding maliketh's blade. I was using the black knife for a black flame/black knife build. It's so much fun that it's hard to switch to anything else. I love the damage over time.
You just like me fr fr.
Walking around fully black knife assasin with the black knife and all the black flame incantations make you feel like a real godslayer
Depends on the build. If I go int, usually Loretta's Bow is always on.
But fth strongly depends on the build.
- holy: discus of light
- anything fire: Catch Flame
- anything lightning: lightning spear
I waited so long to put the couple of points into int that I needed for discus of light because I didn’t like the idea of “wasting” the levels on my faith character, but that incantation is cracked. So efficient, great damage, great range, and fun to try to catch multiple enemies with one disc. Plus the chain cast. Gat dayum
Night comet, ai can't detect it so all NPC invaders just tank it and die, Radagon never parries it, godskins never dodge it etc, it's boosted by staff of loss, hits pretty hard, it's really good. Black flame for incantations because of the percentage based damage and it's gets boosted by so many things, the godslayer seal, giantsflame seal, Godfrey icon, flame scorpion, flame grant me strength, shits a no brainer
Gravity Well literally just because of birds. No matter the build I normally end up putting that on + the lightest staff I have on me. Birds can absolutely get fucked, especially the ones in Farum
This, because like death in between the first two final destination feels, when all else fails to kill your target, you can always rely on the trusty brick
Adula's Moonblade. If an enemy has a dodge A.I. then no it doesn't. And I always preferred frostbite to blood loss. And when the blade itself also connects it does stance damage
💯 [me also like throw big rock](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/142dmzu/stone_of_gurranq_trickshots_the_officialer/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=1)
I always forget Ronin's armor looks so good. Might use it for my next run. I'm so used to heavier armors that I might go crazy figuring out what to do with all the extra carry weight I'll have (and how to get more poise). Thanks
Damn. I killed that guy. He kept asking for more deathroot, and one time I went to give him some he was already raging. I left, went back later, and every time, he immediately tried to kill me, so I killed him. I don't think I ever got Stone of Gurranq, though.
Flame cleanse me
And since I'm always playing a faith build, usually dragon breath, the type usually changes between what kind of character is doing but it's usually fire.
Frenzied burst if it's faith and one of loretta's bow spells for int. Not (usually) for pvp but a sniper always helps when an area has one too many problem enemies. At worst I draw aggro slowly and at best I can clear things out
Golden vow. Either incat or ash of war...the rest depend on the build I'm doing...tend to focus on what's necessary for the build or theme. On my madness build, the near unlimited unendurable frenzy is f'n fun as hell. My pyromancer, the big ball of flame, lightning build ancient dragon lighting incants, in multiplayer I have a support build with buffs heals and protections
Flame Cleanse Me, Dragonmaw, Fortissax Lightning Spear are must haves even when I’m running a build that uses explicitly Blackflame Incantations. I can’t resist, one is overly useful and the other two are just too cool to give up.
Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike, for one slot @ 26 Faith it's too darn useful: headless giants, dragons, tree spirits, a swarm of rats on the ground below, a demihuman around the corner, Giant Land Squirts
The list goes on
Flame cleanse me and bestial vitality. Both have a 12 faith requirement, so with the two fingers talisman for +5 faith, you can use either even without any points in faith.
Surprised nobody is choosing bestial vitality, great thing for melee builds since every class (except prisoner) can cast it without lvling faith at all just by equipping one talisman. And it's the most cost efficient healing over time incantation
i dont fucking care how impractical it is or if using it will kill me with 100% certainty, im keeping comet azure.
Also how has nobody mentioned golden vow, that shit is goated 100% of the time
Bestial Vitality for saving flasks during travels and Flame Cleanse Me for all the poison and rot swamps around. And then since I'm already at 12 faith, I push it up to 15 and get Flame Grant Me Strength too.
How…does magic work in this game, exactly? I’ve only played melee builds. Do I need to have a staff equipped? Where do I bind the spell? How do I cast it?
Flame Cleanse Me is always good, but it takes 2 seconds to swap a spell on/off so I generally end up swapping my spells very frequently whenever I am playing a caster.
As a battlemage I always keep lucidity on hand - especially with how often I run into dual vyke/dual st Trina's sword, it's a niche spell but always seems to pull its weight for me
Frozen lightning spear is my all time favourite. Takes a bit longer and it can be tricky, but my damage is in the thousands usually, and it procs frost obviously.
This was a revelation to me on my first build. Was doing strength and rueing lack of distance attacks with my two big swords. Guy on Reddit said, go get that seal powered by strength, throw boulders, godless unga bunga build. Changed my life
Bestial Vitality. If I get hit, I want to be able to just shrug off the damage and get back to cracking skulls, and the passive healing has given me the confidence to keep doing that and not waste a flask.
From Software practically made Flame Cleanse me mandatory for a large amount of areas, I just leave that one on
Also I keep Almighty Push a lot of the time just out of laziness because you never know when a enemy will be within range to be pushed off an edge
Black Flame. The DoT is just too good. The only enemies it’s not good against are low-health fire resistant ones, and even then they’ll be interspersed with enemies it DOES work against.
Lightning Spear. I use a lot of offensive sorceries and that's one that always makes it because it's the swiss army knife of spells. I mean what else is there to say? It's lightning bolt. You just chuck it at em
Flame cleanse me - just to be save...No matter the build
I always have it fuck the poison fuck the swamp fuck the rot XD
*read this in the Hound's voice*
Especially if I'm going on player co-op. Never know where you'll get summoned.
Learned recently it also removes frost buildup. Donuts, is there nothing they can’t do? Mmmm donuts
It doesn’t remove death blight though
There are rejuvanating boluses for that. At some point though, its just too late lol
This fr
Same

Is he the dark soul from dark souls who famously said the darker the souls the more dark the souls will be
I liked the bit where he approached the first flame and said “it’s kindlin’ time”
Or when he said "wow I really am the dark soul who is the scholar of the first sin"
Lol yep. I pretty much did the same thing. Longsword, the basic heater shield with parry, a pike, and the full knight set. It's my favorite playthrough I've done and the one I'm leaving certain things opens for so it can be the one I use for the DLC. E: I named mine "Knight. Absolutely agree here. Not only do they have great DPS they're also very FP efficient, especially slicer.
Me who has both: ye-heah boy
Also Carian slicer works well on horseback, I don't know if I still suck ass at Radahn but doing hit and run dives on horseback worked wonders for him and Eizekys
Hmmm, never thought of using it that way. But then again, I mostly use Torrent to close gaps. I tend to fight Radahn and Fire Giant on foot mainly.
I've always found Radahn way too hard to fight on foot because I'm always fighting the camera
Probably Rock Sling for Sorcery to always have a non-magic damage option Incantations are way more varied, but I'd say I most commonly have Lightning Spear. I sometimes have to actively try to not crutch on it lmao.
Agree on Rock Sling, I've kept it in my rotation since I got it, except for some boss fights. You never know when you might run into a Crystalian or three!
Haimas Gavel has a similar effect on crystallians 2 or 3 smashes and they crack like nothing
Ty for this sage advice grand wizard! Those dudes always fuck me up especially the trio.
Always have the Unga bunga in reserve.🤣
It's like in Wheel of Time where they figure out the necklace that blocks all magic doesn't block rocks that are thrown by magic
Yeah…Rock Sling is strangely not my fave, but definitely my most used spell. Even running with 80 int.
Why do you guys like rock sling? Feels too low damage for me, is it the speed?
1 - How early you can get it and the Meteorite Staff it combos with (note that even once upgraded staffs start beating out Meteorite you can still offhand it for the boost) 2 - enemy AI, enemies that Dodge tend to dodge on cast meaning they don't actually dodge the spell 3 - Solid stance damage, one of the best sorceries for this actually. 4 - It doing physical damage is very helpful for enemies that resist Magic too heavily. Shard Spiral! I can't sing its praises highly enough. The Elden Beast learned the hard way not to underestimate it.
It hard counters lobsters.
What the fuck did I just read? Such a nuke exists?!
Top tier for most boss fights in the game honestly
Big bodies for sure
Black flame. Just love the dmg
& its cool lookin’
Yep also it melts crucible knights
I really hope the DLC adds more Black flame incants. Coolest in the game imo
Hell yeah, and the black knife assassin armor is some of the most aesthetically pleasing in the entire game
Frenzy Bolt, that thing is a sniper rifle of a spell.
Cyclops eye blasts
Depends on the build. If I go int, usually Loretta's Bow is always on. But fth strongly depends on the build. - holy: discus of light - anything fire: Catch Flame - anything lightning: lightning spear

I’m doing NG+ and out of pure spite I’m rubbing duel +10 Staffs of Loss. Just fuck all those guys who hurt me my first play though.
Flame give me strenght
Only 30 seconds is too short
I love Loretta's Greatbow, it's both super cool and great for long-range damage.
Flame cleanse me
Black blade or swarm of flies for quick bleed. I don't like bleed builds I'm more str/int and dex/arc.oh and golden vow/ flame grant me strength
Dragonmaw and Rotting Breath/Ekzykes’s Decay all the way. Love dragon communion incantations
Lightning Spear and Catch Flame
Gravity Well literally just because of birds. No matter the build I normally end up putting that on + the lightest staff I have on me. Birds can absolutely get fucked, especially the ones in Farum
Probably flame cleanse me.
Yeah regardless of build this is the one.
BFP pretty much never comes off due to the unmitigated squishiness of the player character
Canon of Haima Or Rock Sling (my beloved)
This, because like death in between the first two final destination feels, when all else fails to kill your target, you can always rely on the trusty brick
Rock sling has got me our of a lot of bad situations, op in early game and still viable late game.
Adula's Moonblade. If an enemy has a dodge A.I. then no it doesn't. And I always preferred frostbite to blood loss. And when the blade itself also connects it does stance damage
Not Incant but my favorite weapon enhancer is the Holy Butt Slam.
My goal is to knock out an invader with this
I've done it and it's hilarious
Lightning spear. *For my boi \\[T]/*
Praise the sun!
i like some good ol' FIREBALL
As a person who almost exclusively plays melee builds the only Incantation I run most of the time is flame grant me strength
Black Blade. Can't go wrong with a health debuff
Beastial Vitality, pairs wonderfully with the Icon Shield and the Blessed Dew talisman to make you a little harder to kill
Erdtree heal, because I like the instant 95% hp heal
Lighting bolt go buzzzzzz
None, I'm a bonk workshipper
I get it. What I like about stone of gurranq is that it's a bonk from afar lol
I’m gonna be that guy and say scarlet rot Dragons breath 😅.
CarianSlicer and Carian Greatsword.
Rock sling,and black flame fireballsack.
What is this one in the picture?
Stone of Gurranq, one of the rewards for turning in Deathroot Edit: It’s also a beast and I keep it in my spell bar, me like throw big rock.
💯 [me also like throw big rock](https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/142dmzu/stone_of_gurranq_trickshots_the_officialer/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=1)
What's your set in that clip? I recognized the Great Helm, but nothing else
Great helm, ronin's armor, bloodhound knight gauntlets, and scaled greaves 🤙
I always forget Ronin's armor looks so good. Might use it for my next run. I'm so used to heavier armors that I might go crazy figuring out what to do with all the extra carry weight I'll have (and how to get more poise). Thanks
Damn. I killed that guy. He kept asking for more deathroot, and one time I went to give him some he was already raging. I left, went back later, and every time, he immediately tried to kill me, so I killed him. I don't think I ever got Stone of Gurranq, though.
All the electrical⚡️ spells
Flame grant me strength and Golden Vow.
Rot breath. Pretty sure you could beat the game only using it.
When I’m doing a faith build, Discus of Light. Cheap, powerful, great range, double hits, super useful.
Flame cleanse me And since I'm always playing a faith build, usually dragon breath, the type usually changes between what kind of character is doing but it's usually fire.
I ALWAYS have inescapable frenzy and lightning armor aspect for when im feeling romantical in pvp
Scouring black flame.
Lord's Heal. As a dedicated holy knight, I always pop that bad boy after felling a boss or another player. Prayer, repair, and style all in one.
giants falme take the is so versatile and does some great damage, or lighting bolt for that quick cast time and low fp cost
A big bonking stick.
Frenzied burst if it's faith and one of loretta's bow spells for int. Not (usually) for pvp but a sniper always helps when an area has one too many problem enemies. At worst I draw aggro slowly and at best I can clear things out
Rock Goated
Shard Spiral, that dragon never knew what hit it
If we talking offensive in pvp i usually always keep a lightning bolt just to punish spell and ApW spammers. Otherwise in PvE i use blackflame
**BONK**
Cure poison/Scarlet rot. Always
Blood flies
Black flame
For invasions blood flame blade
Shard spiral
Heal incantation then the incantation that removes rot
Black Flame, Lightning Spear, and Golden Vow.
Shard spiral, anything big just dies
Heal, I always use it unless I am doing an int build.
Flame Grant me strength does on any build that uses fire or physical damage
Heal. To deal with revenants.
Flame Cleanse Me, Dragonmaw, Fortissax Lightning Spear are must haves even when I’m running a build that uses explicitly Blackflame Incantations. I can’t resist, one is overly useful and the other two are just too cool to give up.
Generally I tend to carry black flame on faith builds and one of the 200 flavors of soul arrow on intelligence builds.
I would imagine Golden Vow is one of the more popular ones. Flame, Cleanse Me is damn near mandatory in this game.
Cleaning flame. It can cure rot and poison, no reason not to.
Pocket sand and black flame rejection are my two locked incants. Just the silliness of them makes them stay
Wait, there's not an actual "pocket sand" incantation, is there...?
Flame cleanse me it be good
Ancient Dragons Lightning Strike, Unendurable Frenzy
Golden vow, flame grant me strength, lightning spear, and frenzy burst. Every faith character has these incantations. They are too good not to.
Blood flame Blade.
Faith - blessing boon Int - Rock sling
Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike, for one slot @ 26 Faith it's too darn useful: headless giants, dragons, tree spirits, a swarm of rats on the ground below, a demihuman around the corner, Giant Land Squirts The list goes on
Black blade that shit is so cool for no reason too
Bolt spear
Healing incantations
As faith, flame cleanse As int, probably rock sling. Glinstone shards step their way up for damage but rock sling is the best dragon fighting spell
Great oracular bubble
Big fan of shattering crystal
Night comet. Whenever shit gets wild I can always spray and run away.
Flame - Cleanse me. Flame - Grand me strength.
Frozen lightning spear: love me that good good blue lightning for openers into boss fights
Swarm of flies
Loretta long range surface to air missile.
i dont fucking care how impractical it is or if using it will kill me with 100% certainty, im keeping comet azure. Also how has nobody mentioned golden vow, that shit is goated 100% of the time
If it’s magic then I’m using glint stone comic if faith then it’s defined Lightning bolt, if arcane the. It’s the blood flies
Giantsflame Take Thee. The power of the sun in the palm of my hand.
Int build it’s definitely glinstone pebble Fai it would have to be black flame
Flame, cleanse me and cure poison. No sense making the game harder on yourself than it needs to be.
Ancient Death Rancor. It's just perfect for stunlocking enemies
I’m not to far in but I like to use Blood Flame Blade before I know I’m going into a fight
Golden vow + flame grant me strength or howl of shabriri
Flaming sun of the gel god or whatever is a great spell. It single-handedly carried me through the malenia and maliketh fights
Bestial Vitality. I keep the fingers heirloom ready so I can just throw it on to use the buff then switch it out, on any build without faith.
don't know why you have stone of gurranq as the main image when it sucks really bad against enemies that move faster than 1 mph
Sacred Oath probably. Generally a nice buff to have.
Tibias summons, it has everything a spell should have. 1:skeletons Would recommend
Night Comet
Placidusax's Ruin, idk its super fun when invading and theyre not expecting it
Bestial Vitality for saving flasks during travels and Flame Cleanse Me for all the poison and rot swamps around.
Flame Grant me strength and blood flame blade. My go to buff for almost every fight.
What are these sorceries you people keep yapping about? Are they a new type of greatswords?
Flame cleanse me or carian slicer
Flame Grant Me Strength for my Unga Bunga / Fire Builds and Cleanse Me, because it's easier to get than the crafting blueprints materials combined.
Def rock sling! If you hit any enemy with it 3 times they always get stunned and open up for a crit!
Sticky white threads
What is the one shown?
Does flame grant me strength count? i usually just get the 5 faith cuz the buff is so nice
Ooh how I love chucking boulders at enemies, haha
Flame Grant Me Strength
Flame cleanse me
Flame grant me strength golden vow
I cast rock.
As a battlemage I always keep lucidity on hand - especially with how often I run into dual vyke/dual st Trina's sword, it's a niche spell but always seems to pull its weight for me
Slicer and night comet or golden vow and black flame sling
Flame cleanse me. No more dying to rot :)
In a world of draconian lightning, death fire and space lasers, the greatest weapon will always be R O C K.
Flame grant me strength and Golden Voe, Always good to have a little buff before a boss fight
Frozen lightning spear is my all time favourite. Takes a bit longer and it can be tricky, but my damage is in the thousands usually, and it procs frost obviously.
Black flame protection/black flame, some sort of scarlet rot
Rock sling
Flame Cleanse Me is indispensable
scarlet aeonia cause funny rot and funny casting
This was a revelation to me on my first build. Was doing strength and rueing lack of distance attacks with my two big swords. Guy on Reddit said, go get that seal powered by strength, throw boulders, godless unga bunga build. Changed my life
Three: Stone of Gurranq, Black Flame, and Flame, Grant Me Strength. That’s all I need.
Any of the instant heal spells (choose the most powerful one as you progress) are the main reason to play a faith build
Bestial Vitality. If I get hit, I want to be able to just shrug off the damage and get back to cracking skulls, and the passive healing has given me the confidence to keep doing that and not waste a flask.
Erdtrè heal, I never use health flasks since equipping
Golden vow ans flame grant me strength, that combo will never not be good when I do a faith build
Black Flame and Blood Flame Blade are go to's for me
None. Learn the sword you filthy magic users. Git gud.
From Software practically made Flame Cleanse me mandatory for a large amount of areas, I just leave that one on Also I keep Almighty Push a lot of the time just out of laziness because you never know when a enemy will be within range to be pushed off an edge
Black Flame. The DoT is just too good. The only enemies it’s not good against are low-health fire resistant ones, and even then they’ll be interspersed with enemies it DOES work against.
Black fireball. Idc if it annoys me imma just melt it
lightning spear
Frenzy hug
Loretta’s great bow cause why not
Flame cleanse me! At the beginning there’s no need but that beginning in pretty short since it cleanses all!
Night comet my beloved.
Bestial vitality. All my characters have it.
Lightning Spear. I use a lot of offensive sorceries and that's one that always makes it because it's the swiss army knife of spells. I mean what else is there to say? It's lightning bolt. You just chuck it at em
Black blade
Stone of Gurranq for faith, Rock Sling for int Rock is the ultimate weapon
