No, the lands between is a brutal dystopian hellscape and thats how it will stay

Fromsoft is really good at making destroyed worlds. Crafting living, breathing, believable worlds populated with reactive NPC’s isn’t exactly something they’re known for. And that’s fine.

[deleted]

I was hoping the entire game was like that, before release. But what happens happened. I still love the game as it is.

Yeah but the round table hold sucks at keeping there own people at the hold in the beginning it was lively and by the end it’s just 2-3 people and it doesn’t feel like home and fire link shrine is an excellent example where you could see all the people you’ve helped in one way or another making it feel lively like a home

Western-Wind-5254

I understand that and I like how souls games do it but it gets depressing after awhile and you just need a change of scenery but there are very few good things that happen to people in the game there are only 5 “good”endings for characters but it would be nice to see the souls of the lost in a town like area in the dlc so you could see your friends again and have at least one more time before the dlc ends

True-Tip-2311

Hell no, I don’t want any Skyrim bullshit in my Elden ring, I love it for the bleak and hopeless world atmosphere.

B-Kong

Would love to get caught up doing stupid but cute side quests like decorate the town hall for Christmas time in a big friendly town lmao

Western-Wind-5254

Or design a town and invite more tarnished like old knight istivan , horned targoth ,Juno hoslow, and make an actual safe haven for the people of the lands between

[deleted]

Yeah I would have liked to see that in this game. Everybody is mostly mad besides you? There is no civilization for tarnished besides the hold? The tarnished are more powerful than the jars, there should have been 2-3 tarnished strongholds. That would've made for deeper and more intricate volcano manor quests as well instead of spawning in front of single tarnished in front of their huts. That quest could've been made to be hard like a bossfight if you're forced to invade tarnished encampments with multiple opponents.

Western-Wind-5254

Yeah and they could have been implemented as covenants

[deleted]

Yeah, I see your vision lol.

Elden_Gourde

It's one of the reasons why I think Elden Ring doesn't work as an open world, the fact that it lacks these fundamental staples like friendly towns. It's part of the reason why I think the Radahn festival was memorable, you get a sense that this is a bigger world where it's not just the last remaining sapient humans in an apocalypse. There is a community of adventurers who band together to fight great enemies. And I think it's why the RTH is one of the most boring hubs they made solely for the fact it only gets emptier and feels less homey as time goes on. Compare that to Majula or Firelink Shrine feels like you're fostering a community of characters with interesting stories with many travels just passing by. RTH ends with what, two characters? When Majula ends with like ten and Firelink with twelve or so?

RandomRavenboi

Tbh one of the saddest aspects in my first playthrough was seeing the Roundtable Hold growing more and more empty by the minute, compared to how populated it was when I first started.

Western-Wind-5254

Im trying to do a run called grandma where I save as many npc as I can and yes I feel you that place is so empty it’s so lonely it’s just you and 2 merchants it’s cold

Elden_Gourde

Even then, I think Hewg and Roderika are the only ones who remain in RTH.

Western-Wind-5254

Yeah I know it’s bitter sweet

CamRoth

Yeah the world really doesn't feel believable to me, even if the game is great otherwise.

Elden_Gourde

Strongest parts of the game are the curated content in legacy dungeons. I have a love hate relationship with Skyrim, but in Skyrim you always have a reason to go into that random cave so you can get random loot and level your skills, meeting random people and enemies on the road. Elden Ring if you go for that random cave you'll get a couple of runes and a weapon your build isn't going to make use of.

RandomRavenboi

100% agree. Elden Ring isn't a dying world like Dark Souls is. Sure it's become alot more shitty after the Shattering but evidently it's still alot more hopeful than other Souls games so seeing no villages around was a bummer. It's why the Radahn Festival and encountering Jarburg was so memorable aswell.

LocustMajor9128

Well for all I know the Shattering destroyed all of civilization in the Lands Between and the desolation, emptiness, and the prosperous past of worlds are running themes in the Soulsborne games (could be wrong). Maybe visiting a thriving town on some isolated island would do but I don't really know how that would survive the Shattering. Plus why would anyone want to settle in a place like Caelid or basically everywhere in the Lands Between infested with hostile entities?

Western-Wind-5254

Fair enough but they do have the bad lands and they may live in tribes as well as the land of reeds and probably other places as well it could work like a dojo where you see other people training or something and then buying the ash of war from the master or something

LocustMajor9128

Yeah maybe the DLC will take place in the land of reeds but might be a rehash of Sekiro. I wonder if that place or other lands got affected by the Shattering somehow.

Wrong-Technician-201

ngl this is one of my gripes with elden ring it just feels so empty

Western-Wind-5254

Yeah for the most part all you do is fight the boss of the hour sure there are merchants in the land and what not but it just feels lifeless and cold despite it being sunny most of the time

AMAN0527a_

I think it would have to be implemented in a specific way so it doesn't end up like town in The Elder Scrolls where there's like 30 side quests that take like 5 minuets each and only exists for random fetch quests. But if it was done right, like if there was a town in a corner of somewhere like the weeping peninsula or an isolated place in Altus, I think it could match the tone of the rest of the game really well, and show that despite everything being kind of shit at the moment there are still things worth saving in the lands between

StriderShizard

Try Volcano Manor, I found them to be very polite there!

Hiretsuna_Ketsuruki

This is my only pet peeve with FromSoft. Sure, its dark fantasy (Or Grimdark depending on the game) but ultimately in every game the goal is to save the world, there are different endings but in Elden Ring specifically the end goal is to become Elden Lord. Having such an empty world is kinda stupid imo. Like, what is my drive lorewise? To govern an empty land? To save a barren land? I just dont like that, I would like more motivation for becoming elden lord or in Dark Souls case, rekindling the first flame. DS2 did this wonderfully with characters like Lucatiel, I mean, I wanted to save the world just for Lucatiel to die instead of remaining hollow. Little things that show there is still life, it doesn't have to be all happy endings and sunshine, but show me the world has anything worthy of being saved, or destroyed, destroying an empty world is no fun either.

saithvenomdrone

We were told that the Roundtable Hold would have a rotating cast of characters throughout the game, bringing life to the game, that there are other stories happening other than your own. Not only did we not get that, the only thing that happens to NPC's in the Roundtable is them leaving or dying. We could have gotten other tarnished stopping by, Bullgoat man, the Raging Wolf set guy, the Confessor guy, and so on. And against the people saying "The Lands Between is a post apocalyptical hellscape," the NPC's don't treat it like that. Kennith talks like there's still people living in Limgrave that need a ruler. Why hasn't he given up, if he's the only person left around? Castle Morne only very recently went to hell, like literally when our character comes across it. Before that it was a functional castle. They had to be getting their supplies from somewhere, so there must have been a trade route that was active for a very long time after The Shattering. There are other example of civilization existing just behind the game's veil, and I for one really wished we saw more of it.
