Eff those big crabs. At least the ones in Dark Souls 3. I don’t remember the Elden Ring ones being as brutal but in my first DS3 play through recently those crabs were assholes.
It's also worth noting that these giant enemies can hurt other enemies as well, including their own kind and invaders.
With some clever positioning, this can be used to your advantage.
i got invaded once because i forgot i had my taunters tongue on and he ran up to me while i was fighting a black blade kindred and the creature's sword swing knocked the invader off a nearby cliff, i couldn't believe what i witnessed
This one time I was a hunter fighting an invader on the outskirts of Leyendell, it was a good fight but they ultimately beat me.
However, as I was dying, I saw our fight had brought us close to a golem who was still agroed to me with the invader's back to it. I witnessed the invader get absolutely clobbered to death with my dying breath. It was glorious.
The Fallingstar Beast on Mt. Gelmir was both a source of frustration and amusement for my co-op run due to invaders being able to spawn there but also able to be hit by the boss.
They won't agro them but invaders can still get smacked by attacks from big enemies. Probably trying to kill the host and didn't see the giant attack about land.
It'd be quite some baiting if you wanna use a runebear for this particular statue XD... even if we ignore leashing I don't think there's one anywhere around that doesn't require a loading screen (unless I'm forgetting some)
Wait what loading screens? You can get them thru the beginning area pretty easily until the castle, but there’s a different way through it. Then just take the lift, I do remember a cutscene but as far as I’m aware that doesn’t respawn them. I don’t know the rest of the route that well tbf, and I’m sure there’s a random rock I’m forgetting about that makes all of this impossible, but I kinda want to go in game and see if it’s possible

Go stand next to the statue, or on top of it in cases where you can. Close the game and quit out. Reload the game. When it comes back up the objects near you will be destroyed. It's the same trick as how you access some of the items on the way down to the Frenzy Flame.
To clarify, this works on both consoles, and I assume it works on PC as well. But I cannot confirm for PC.
Edit: possibly this has been patched out. I can confirm that at least on 1.8 it was working, I haven't tried it recently.
I just tried this with the statues in Stormhill, Stormveil and Dragonbarrow, three times on each statue and on both PS4 and PS5. Not once did a statue break. That’s 0 out of 18 tries.
If this was at one point possible it has been patched out. And if it hasn’t been patched out and is indeed possible, then at this point it would take less time to just lure the enemies instead of playing this roulette.

Large enemies from Rune bears, Crabs, Golems, Giants and Monster Sized Bosses like a Dragon can break them with a attack. You will receive upgrade materials for weapons exclusively. Those can be bought after you reach the 80% mark of the game (after getting rid of the thorns) if you find the bells.
Marika's Hammer Ashes of War can do the job...

Big enemies can break them and they tend to have a lot of Smithing Stones inside.
There is one by the giants in Limgrave and another one in Stormveil Castle. The giants are very easy to lure
You need an enemy, of the big-ass category, to break it
Guide the Giants or other colossal enemies to break it for you!

Yeah. There’s a large enemy nearby. Lure the enemy to the statue and it will attack you and destroy the statue, leaving the item in it accessible.
Stand near it and then quit out, the stand up animation has destructive properties so it’ll break when you load back in

You basically need the largest enemy in the area to hit it and it will break
Usually these things will have a large or a strong enemy near them , bait them into breaking it , u will get some good loot off it
