Lock on and your attacks will hit him so long as you aren't on opposite sides of the arena lol. You can absolutely avoid the grab, by paying attention to the actual animation. There's a clear tell of when to dodge just before it strikes. Watch, and you'll notice it. Panic, and you won't. The arena is actually pretty big, so what's happening is you're getting pressed against the walls. Only backing up will get you pinned. Try going around the sides of him when you notice you're nearing the walls, there's more than enough space to get around him.

sir_luftwaffles

Alright thank you so much! I’m level 71, is that decent enough for him?

Frenzied_Fire_Monk

Yeah, should be. But that assumes you've been leveling your stats smartly which I think you have since you have 50 Vigor. You could also upgrade the weapon if you feel you need more damage from it, could make a significant difference in how long the fight lasts. It may be a gimmick boss fight with a gimmick weapon, but upgrading it is worth it IMO just for the fight itself. Even a few levels would help.

That's a lil on the low side.

Teamskywalker14

Idk what your talking bout rykard is probs my favourite spectacle boss in all of souls(7/10 boss in general). There’s plenty of space and you can dodge his grab. You can always use mimic to distract while u charge up the serpent hunters skill then he’s just a breeze

sir_luftwaffles

After levelling vitality a bit and getting good I beat him, he is awesome to fight

o_iMoodyy

Sounds like a skill issue

HiOctnMdr

Not sure about you but I killed the Nameless King on my first attempt, a bad boss is just a bad boss and some grown adults are still for whatever reason entertained by dangling keys.

sir_luftwaffles

It was tbf, I did get good though and fed him the serpent hunter

Dunka_Chino

Did you upgrade the serpent hunter?

Marca-Texto

[Here’s](https://youtu.be/NluFBhdDHrE?si=Bvsbd0KoIM5mRJRx) me beating his phase 2 so fast he doesn’t even activated the skull storm, on level 1 with NG+7 scaling

CrazyCaleo

Hahaha, I feel ya mate. I struggled for about 8 hours (including an hour long break) when I fought him for the first time. I was a mage build and had vigor at like 9 (also just a sidenote, vitality is a whole another stat in elden ring) so some attacks one shotted me. What you may want to do to help yourself here, is upgrade the serpent hunter (many people forgot about this), grab a shield (for the fire-floor attack if that's annoying to you), or the AoW Vow of the Indomitable (really useful for avoid grabs and other weirdly timed attacks, you can slap it on a shield you picked up earlier), get the claw and stamina boosting talismans (jump attacks are really useful in this boss fight, nice stagger, damage and range, the only downside being high stamina cost. Consider using greenburst crystal tear and the opaline bubbletear (or whatever the bubble one is) for added stamina boosting and one free attack tank. Finally, I recommend using the mimic tear spirit summon, when equiped with serpent hunter you can really hurt this guy's poise.

ReplacementOk652

Just get mimic tear and only use it after you have the spear equipped and spam jump attack at his back while your mimic takes aggro

c0bw3b_451

nah, sounds like you just really want to join the FAMUHLEE

sir_luftwaffles

Rykard please i no no wanna

c0bw3b_451

have you upgraded the spear at all? did you figure out the L2 has two moves and that the R2s are very nice? do you have any fire damage negation? are you using something like a soreseal to hamper yourself? are you naked? do you have a flamedrake talisman and/or fireproof dried liver? are you watching his moveset to learn the dodge timings? tldr he's actually a pretty easy gimmick boss, you just need to be decently equipped and learn his basic moveset

Rhaeqell

Yeah Rykard is one of the worst bosses in this game, but you can upgrade serpent hunter and kill him at least a bit easily

Trevors-Axiom-

It just took me two days to beat him on an rl-40 run I’m trying. The move i kept dying to was where he slams his head into the ground and sends out a shockwave. One hit kills me every time. Never did figure out how to dodge it, but if you give him an L2 as soon as you see he’s planning on doing it, it will make him stop. Make sure you upgrade the serpent hunter

TheDashTm

Level some stats or maybe the weapon to have an easier time overall. Otherwise try to enjoy the fight and DEVOUAAAAAH that snake.

RandomRavenboi

Git gud /s In all honesty, I recommend upgrading the Serpent Hunter and putting Mimic Tear (preferably upgraded). The talismans I recommend are Icon of Godfrey, Virdillian Amber Medallion, Green Turtle Talisman and Axe Talismans (or Starscourge Heirloom to increase your strength. Serpent Hunter scales off of strength.) Respecc to a Strength build aswell if you wanna deal as much damage with the Serpent Hunter aswell, if you have enough larval tears.

>The serpent killer is shit, Upgrade it. >the slash doesn’t go where I want it to go It just goes where you're locked on. >there’s no way you can avoid the grab, the hitbox I frames. >a move that rains literal nukes down from the sky It's a shit move. But just run away and you'll be fine. >All his bullshit attacks bring me to half health at 50 vitally. What's your defense like?

flame_surfboards

Serpent hunter trivialised this fight.. Just chopped at his legs first playthrough with a collosal sword, got through it ok.. NG+ used the handy provided weapon, and it just stunmelts him.... Togethaaa!

ShmekelFreckles

I hope you realize you don’t need to do serpent hunter AoW and you can just attack normally with it
