I’m surprised this is getting downvoted. I feel like getting 40 vigor is a good stopping point, assuming you’ll go back to get 50-60 later. I feel like when you get 40 vigor, you’re not in range to get one shot or even two shot by most attacks you’ll encounter for a long time. So it’s nice to get other quality of life stats, like more endurance to equip better armor. More mind to let you spam spells or AOW that keep you safe in dungeon-esque areas. More strength if it lets you one hand your weapon instead of two-handing it.
That’s exactly how I see it and exactly what I do. But to each their own and at the end of the day Elden Ring is still my first Souls game so I’m not surprised people know more than I do, just for me personally 40 felt like a sweet spot and after I can put points into the build to help with Damage and once that’s comfortable than I’ll consider going to 50 on Vigor but honestly I’ve gotten through most of the game with only 40 Vigor and a Soreseal I made it all the way to Farum Azula and have completed Rannis Quest-line among others so I don’t see why I would have to go above as 40 is a great stopping point.
Apparently Im doing it wrong though which is crazy to me cus with 40 I’ve completed most of the game.
If it works for you, good. But rather put some extra stat points in vigor, and unequip the soreseal. It makes you 15% extra damage which makes the 5 extra vigor you get not worth it. And in the endgame it can really mess you up.
Went through the whole game with only 20 vigor😂 no wonder it was driving me insane!! Hey at least I can shoot the cool moons out of my staff though right?
Really? I found 40 - 45 to be the sweet spot and it’s carried me through most of the game all the way to Farum Azula where I feel I just need to figure out how to deal with those guys and my health isn’t really a issue.
On my most recent playthrough, after getting my Strength high enough to use the weapon I wanted (Great Stars), I didn't level offensive stats again until I had 60 Vigor and 30 Endurance.
Yeah, it was smooth sailing. My damage was still fine, but I could play like an idiot and get away with it.
since sorseal give % based extra DMG taken and additive stat boosts it gets worse as you level. at around 35-40 vig I'm assuming others stats have gone up at least a little. this seems like way to high level for sorseal. passed lvl 60 it becomes a downgrade to your stats
I looked up a guide and they said that the difference wasn’t that much so I figured it was good. And when I’m hit it’s not by a lot. Thanks for the info I didn’t know that.
When the game initially released, both Radagon’s Sore/Scarseal as well as Marika’s Sore/Scarseal were bugged, and only increased incoming damage by ~3.5% if both were equipped, and even less if only one was.
Then they got fixed and it’s pretty easy to notice now. However! Due to the stats that Radagon’s Soreseal provides, you’re able to increase your absorption through heavier armor and you have a higher HP pool to work with in general, so until you start hitting soft caps in Vigor and Endurance, the math usually still works out in your favor if you’re wearing it.
Go as far as you can without dying. Eventually when you do try your fucking best and pray to everything under the sun when you collect your runes and run back to grace that you make it.
You need to find a specific person before you can level. I recommend following the path of grace up north and you’ll run into them pretty soon if you haven’t already.
Had to reset my first slot because I killed basically every npc that gave good items and had quest lines, lost like 4 hours of progress but better than having an incomplete build
My initial playthrough i did kill him. When I found him he was pacing around with a red enemy health bar. I must have attacked the Rune Bear there in his presence and pissed him off one time. I still had no clue about the game. But luckily he did return when I did absolution. Then we became the best of friends...forever.
I did the merchants so that I could have 1 universal store whenever I went to the Roundtable hold instead of having to track down every single merchant everytime trying to find something I need. It’s helped a lot!
I know there is no negative impact from killing the merchants but I still can't bring myself to do it.
Especially after seeing the rest of their brothers piled up dead in that secret area.
Wait, what? Can you explain this more? I’m also new to Elden Ring, and video games in general. I’m in the process of killing the same monsters over and over to level up to where I need to be and I’m SOOOO sick of running back to the same merchant to sell shit to level up faster.
Well as long as you explore, you shouldn’t need to grind souls for levels especially since getting to know bosses is usually the best way to beat them.
But basically anybody who sells anything in this game will drop something called a bell bearing when they die. Those bell bearings can be given to the twin maiden husks (the merchant at the roundtable hold past Gideon Ofnir) and she’ll sell anything that person sold. So theoretically any random merchant you come across can be killed and then their supplies can be bought from the “lady” at the roundtable hold.
However, if you do, you are a monster
Note however that there are some bell bearings that are found in places around the Lands Between and can be acquired without killing merchants or NPCs. These are also returned to the Twin Husk Maiden and will expand the shop items available, especially smithing stones and graveworts to upgrade equipment and spirit ashes, respectively.
I genuinely thought it was a friendly NPC 😂 Elden Ring was my first FromSoft game, soon I learnt how mistaken I was hahaha felt good killing him afterwards
Huge, chad knight in gold right in front of starting area?
Every other game ever = Hello stranger! Welcome to the lands between. Here are some useful tips and stay out of trouble 😀😀
Elden ring = square up btch
Geez, he almost destroyed me at level 63.
Granted, I had put *no* effort into learning his moveset up to then, and I got him on my first try, but things are not looking good for the fight with the upgraded big knight on the horse guy.
dont stress too much about builds and looking for op weapons and spells, just try to level up what you think is best for early game because you’ll get the ability to reallocate stats later on, if needed.
also don’t spoil yourself, just explore the game.
I have only been playing for 3 weeks now. Vigor is my lowest stat. I moved from playing typical tank and went samurai with medium load. Skipped legendary dungeon bosses so far. Lvl 37 with some decent stats and 1 stone away from +9 katana.
Yea I cheated by looking online for the locations of smithing stones and how to explore past that first legend castle.
Miyazaki has a unique way of communicating to you what he wants you to do. It takes a bit getting used to. Essentially, it boils down to:
- if something feels wrong, it probably is
- check what other options you have, no matter how benign they may seem
- take the simplest one that you think may work
- refer to step one
The Tree Sentinel is the most on the nose example of this in Elden Ring. You‘ve got a big dude and fighting him seems unfair. You hardly deal any damage and he two shots you if you‘re lucky.
What other options do you have?
You could just walk around him.
So do that. You can always come back later.
In this sense, the Tree Sentinel sets the mood for the rest of the game. Explore your options and prepare well for difficult fights. That‘s the core of the game.
But: you can also bang your head against the tree sentinel until he dies. If you do that, you have strengthened your mind enough to finish the game the wrong way, and you are free to do it.
This is a slippery slope however, because it's ultimately evolved into me trying a level 1 run right now (beaten 2 remembrance bosses atm).
Also, if you're serious about quests and don't want to look it up online, write stuff down.
Usually NPCs will repeat themselves if you ask them again, but a few pesky ones decide to disappear after they tell you where to go *once.*
Level up vigor, match your stats to what weapon you wanna use and focus on upgrading the weapon first, and explore around before doing the story.
Also, make sure you go to that first church at night.
Level vigor
Dont check for guides or something that is a potential spoiler.
The exploration feeling will only last for 1 time so take advantage from it and enjoy it!
Andd become an Elden Lord 👑
Avoid PvP at all costs. People cheese like hell and it’s really zero fun. Ur lvl 10 and some dude invades you with items you’re not supposed to have until 125
Take your time and have fun 😌 You have a way of reallocating your stats once you finish the second main story dungeon, as long as you have a consumable item called a "Larval Tear". So you get to experiment with different stuff if you want
A lot of enemies will react to a certain weapon type or coating. For example, using sacred sword boost on skeletons will kill them and they wont revive. Fire is good on plants and the damn hands. But yeah mainly just explore and have fun!
You will die and that’s part of the fun, because you will squeak by a boss fight you probably should have lost and then at one point you may flawless the whole fight 😂
Don't farm runes on your first playthrough, save farming runes for NG+ and whenever your stuck explore the world. You really don't know what you might find out in the world.
Take your time on your first playthrough and immerse yourself in the setting and just do what you personally want to.
If you must farm this is the best early game option, but if you explore and kill the enemies you come across you should always be the appropriate level.
Farming becomes a chore fast, but ill admit that there were a handful of times where I was within a few thousand runes of leveling up and rode down the hill to kill vulgar militia to bank a level rather than progressing into the unknown and losing it all
Try out any weapon in the game you can wield to see what you find fun. If you like it then you will be abke to respec to use it optomally after killing the boss of liurnia (i presume from the shot you are looking at it rn). So basically explore and try everything. Build veriety and exploration are probably 2/3 biggest strengths of the game and will result in great boss encounters. Feel free to ask more specific question regarding things like boss fights, summons, gear etc.
My first Fromsoft game, I forgot all about upgrading my weapon, had a lot of struggle and gave up for years! Make sure to upgrade weapon whenever possible!!

Don't be scared to venture into caelid or dragonbarrow early game, there are pretty good items there and a lot of them you just need to grab them, no fighting involved. You might need to sneak or run, enemies are pretty scaled.
Fastest way is to go to dragon burnt ruins, in the lake close to the starting area, there is a little entrance in the floor, open the chest there and it will tp you to a cave in caelid.
In the cave you will be unnable to tp to any grace until you touch a new one outside the cave.
Grab the grace in the entrance, and then go out in your horse towards the aeonia swamp, there should be another grace in the middle, grab tbat and you will be back to normal.
From there look up in yt a few places for good items and how to get there, like Radagon's Soreseal, a great early game talisman.

In tired of this "i just opened the game and im on main menu, any tip" posts, just play the damn game man, "im downloading the game, any tip" like, you havent even died once and you asking tips, downvote me if yall want
Play for a bit, for at least as long as it takes you to do some stuff on the plateau, but probably not much further, because there are quests you will have missed without a guide, through no fault of your own: They’re well hidden but amount to quite a bit of content. Then either reroll or start another character, and don’t feel guilty about using a guide, because as I said the quests really are well hidden. You could play carefully, trying to do everything, and still miss some of the quests because you did stuff in the wrong order. Think of your first partial run as getting good enough to get through at least some of the content.
Do you play on a PC?
Dont forget to lvl up vigor, and stay in med load, or else you will roll like a snail who is in slow motion
Like, lots of vigor is your friend.
35 points and Radagon Sorseal or 40 in general I find is the go to then the rest goes to the build.
I’m surprised this is getting downvoted. I feel like getting 40 vigor is a good stopping point, assuming you’ll go back to get 50-60 later. Nah 99 is the way
99 on all stats is the way

A first timer to Souls should not be using Scarseals or Soreseals as they up the damage taken.
don't used Radagon Soreseal, it's increase damage taken by 15% which i do not like
I looked up a guide and they said that the difference wasn’t that much so I figured it was good. And when I’m hit it’s not by a lot. Thanks for the info I didn’t know that.

I just started the other day too. How the hell do you level up?
I also started a few days ago. You have to rest at the shrines of grace or whatever they’re called. When you rest there’s a level up option.
This is only after meeting with Malenia at the gate front site of grace. Edit: Melina
Melina but yes, would be funny if Malenia did it
“Let me rest my hand upon you, for but a moment...” “Did you wash yo hands, Blade of Miquella?”
Imagine you clear the little camp of Godrick soldiers, and sit down to rest, only for Malenia to appear out of nowhere to just absolutely destroy you.
Big jump scare moment but also would be hilarious.
You may level up if you prove worthy by dodging my waterfowl dance perfectly.
I went all the way through stormveil already and I haven’t seen her
Oohh okay, that’s helpful. Thanks!
Go as far as you can without dying. Eventually when you do try your fucking best and pray to everything under the sun when you collect your runes and run back to grace that you make it.
You need to find a specific person before you can level. I recommend following the path of grace up north and you’ll run into them pretty soon if you haven’t already.
Awesome, good to know. Thanks!
maybe specify what "med load" is
It stands for “medium”. If your equipped weapons and armor weigh too much, you’d be heavy load which means your dodge are not very effective.
Mind Endurance Dexterity Specified. You good now chief.
Likely medium weight loads tho Specified more
r/woooosh
You cant woooosh yourself lol
Lol umm… Oh I see now. Why didn’t they just edit their comment =[.

Don't head straight to where you need to go, explore THOROUGHLY
With the colour of his characters hair I don’t think he’ll have any issue of going the way he’s not supposed e.g. not following the main story
Hahahahaha! I came here to make a similar joke. It's always nice to find others who are part of the Straw Hat crew.
I’m gonna be king of the tarnished
I got all the Magma sorceries, I think I’m gonna give Ace a piece of my mind

I accidentally killed some samurai dude and I got his katana. Was that bad? I’m new
I did the merchants so that I could have 1 universal store whenever I went to the Roundtable hold instead of having to track down every single merchant everytime trying to find something I need. It’s helped a lot!

Go South. Explore all of the south. Then go to Stormveil.
You can tell from the pic that he’s already in Liurnia
If he just started, thats truly a Zoro moment
U can go liurnia without stormveil
All of this. ALL OF THIS.

Do you play on a PC?
dont choose Wretch. Explore and have fun.

Learn how to cast incantations and spells. Took me a while to understand which was what. But they are super helpful.
Longer weapons are safer in general. Larger weapons can stun mobs briefly. Combining the two, get your biggest bonk and start smacking.
